As a mechanic who dreams of having these tools, I can't help but notice how much nicer and cleaner your deadblow is lol. Love your videos and the creativity in your projects! Very fun to watch!!
Cool, calm, collected, knowledgeable, skilled, happy to demonstrate mistakes (but not really making many), talented, imaginative. An excellent video all round.
Where did you learn such great skills? You are fantastic at explaining your work and some of your techniques are amazing. Thanks for sharing the plans for the shelves, bed and plane.
Very cool build. I have been using a hand planer to fillet corners on my furniture builds, but I just might try making one of these. Anodizing the aluminum body would prevent the black streaking, eliminate tool wear, and provide a pretty low-friction surface. It's pretty achievable in a home shop. Dying it some nice metallic color is just a bonus
Polish the V notch in the bottom to a high shine, wipe it down really good with degreaser or rubbing alcohol then wipe just the thinnest layer of floor wax into it. This will make the plane glide much easier, and it should reduce the amount of black streaks left behind
Hi, new subscriber, male, total novice. Into your work and your looks. Both top notch. As to the metal chips- Just use compressed air cans or a power compressor it works well. cheers m8!
I just got a bridgeport, doesn't even have a traditional DRO. I'd love to hear more about your prototrak setup, it looks like the best of both worlds between manual & cnc
Congrats on the new family member!! My prototrak is only CNC on the X and Y axis, but you can get a lot done with just that. I hear you can give it g-code too, so it can do more than just the canned cycles (rectangular pocket, circle, etc) but it’s so old that I haven’t found a good way yet to go from a modern CAD tool to g-code that this Prototrak could understand. I think EZtrak is another option if you are looking for CNC options to retrofit with. Is that the plan?
@@AmyMakesStuff yeah, just exploring options right now. It sounds like something with ballscrews would lend itself better to cnc than the old acme threads in my machine, got a bit of backlash going on! 😂
I saw your flexure demo video, stopped in to see what your video collection looks like. It looks like you have a mill and aren't afraid to use it, so I am compelled to subscribe. Who can resist a woman with a bridgeport? :)
Just found your videos. I'm sure you are now aware that High Speed Steel doesn't lose hardness even under considerable heat. Dipping it in water while grinding keeps it cool so you can hold it with your hands. Not really to lose the temper.
6:15. Poor old bandsaw, must feel very unloved! Be honest, using the mill is just more fun... we understand. Another interesting video thanks, Liked & Subscribed.
@@AmyMakesStuff id love to learn more about milling machines, I like to do metal work but i only have an arc welder and grinder and basic tools, nothing very precise like this or lathes. id like to learn about lathes too! also have you got a cat? i thought i heard a cat in the video. all the best from ireland
@@cushte4996 😂 yes, I have a very vocal cat. He is expressing his confusion that he can hear my voice, but I am not petting him. I would also love to get a lathe, but haven't figured out where to put it yet. Thanks for watching!
Really it's so refreshing to see this calmer/natural approach

😂 that deadblow is clean because it’s only job is to stay near the mill!

Waaaaaaw! love that hybrid CNC idea. never seen that before
You're amazing! I've been dying to learn this😍
Machining is so cool. Love my equipment.
Excellent work !
I really appreciate your calm objective narration.
I'm a bit jealous you have such a complete workshop at home ;-).
Outstanding work. I’ve been a machinist for a long time and you’re teaching me new tricks! Thanks.

Great project. Hope to see more machining
This was very entertaining to see. I don't know any about tool making but great job I think! 🤣
Awesome Amy! Great to be able to make your own tool!
Nicely done.
Aside from it being a great bit of engineering, is such a beautiful object, a great design

Hey, for future projects, where you may want to round external corners, This Old Tony has some tips. Thank you for the video. I was very nice.
you could mill down the contact sides and add some plastic contact surfaces to remove the marring
Great job!
you have amazing skills and your shop is awesome
This is awesome! I recently got a cheap mill, you've inspired me to buy some aluminum blanks :)
Really cool Amy

super video Amy, be careful with brush i think vacuum cleaner safer for shavings
can you mill mild steel with that?
yes, I agree that vacuum is better 😅 yes, can definitely cut mild steel and even harder stuff, just depends on cutter type + feeds & speeds.

@@AmyMakesStuff To assist the vacuum, add a R/C "ducted fan" as a blower. Or even a leaf blower on a speed control to keep the noise level reasonable.

@@NiHaoMike64 I like the idea of using a blower so that it will be quieter - thanks for the suggestion!
Use compressed air to blow off chips. Much safer than the brush..:)
Agreed!
What model mill do you have?
it's a Bridgeport, never figured out the exact model
Lacquer or anodize the aluminum
"Whoa, this is "MIT" stuff." Very interesting anyway.
