- The day in the life videos are making a come back!! I cannot believe I am living my dream of working at an American School in Madrid....but here we are! I hope you guys enjoy and as always don't forget to like and subscribe for more:)
I just listened to the first episode of your podcast “teaching in your twenties” and I could relate so much. This is my first year teaching and almost everything you said I was like, “I feel the same way!” I loved how you talked about showing yourself as a human who makes mistakes and has bad days. I’ve heard so many time, “Teachers are the best actors”. I don’t think this should be the case. I am real with my students. I let them know when I mess up and I apologize. I let them know it’s okay to mess up, as long as you realize your mistake and you want to grow from it. Also, without going into details, I found out some not so fun news and got a little emotional and shed a few tears. My students showed sympathy and over the next 30 minutes they kept bringing me drawings and notes saying it’ll be okay. I feel like this built the relationship between my students and myself. Yes, you need to be the professional, so I wasn’t emotional all day and forgetting my duties, but being real with them strengthens that relationship. I am eager to hear more from you in your podcasts/videos! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

My biggest struggle is to get them to stop talking during lessons, carpet time, and walking in line. I’ve tried lights, CHAMP clips, blurt beans. I guess I am not stern enough 😂 🤷♀️

Yes of course! Not that many, but I think it is becoming more common.
