Great Pippa take. Becoming the biggest also put a large bullseye on your back. It's like why holo is so strict with permissions, any misstep can easily turn into a huge one, as they've learnt the hard way. 1 step for a cheetah is like 30 cm, while 1 step for an elephant is like 2m, much harder for an elephant to course correct.
Holo is strict with permissions because Japan has strict copyright laws, with effectively no conception of Fair Use as a legal defense. I'm not sure what Canadian copyright laws exactly entail, but it's still based of English Common Law, and most western legal systems have IP rights structured off of American copyright precedent AFAIK, so Phase shouldn't realistically ever have to worry about permissions for games. What's more, in the Court of Public Opinion, fair use is broadly expected in the west; somebody going after Phase over permissions is PR suicide. I could see a situation where some of the talents feel they have to reign in the menhera and put the hinges back on because of the amount of eyes on them - Pippa has already admitted to doing so because she's essentially the brand representative for Phase - but I doubt they'd ever get into legal troubles for their content.

There are always trade-offs between being a small or a larger company. Personally, the benefits I have gained from moving from a large corporation to now being in a much smaller company (less than 30 people) have far outweighed the negatives.
It's always refreshing to hear how multilayered ol Pipster's takes are, and that they're usually cognizant of how the future tends to end up converging. The company I work for is pretty similar; mid-large engineering firm that grows as the work we get grows, which is great. However, it's starting to bust into that new bracket where high corporitization will become inevitable, especially since one of the handful of big, 'new order'-esque asset companies now has us in their portfolio. Nothing major has yet happened to our office, but littlr shifts have happened on a more macro-scale that will inevitably drive the firm to be another big name, big body organization that eventially prioritizes speed over clarity & accuracy.
