Just think of all the new treasures the thrift stores will be filled with after this quarantine is over when everyone has cleared out their closets... ohhhh l am dying to thrift already... missing Goodwill, my 2nd home. 😭
Well, most thrift shops I know are already bursting at the seams. Considering most people who clean out right now aren't going to change their habits and will continue to consume way too much, it's not really that great.
lelexoxo303 there’s always a bright side, though...due to the amount of clothes thrift stores have, people who can’t afford good quality clothes can actually buy jackets and other necessities at a low price :)
@@bellamoody6069 I am thinking more about the environment and the people in sweatshops who have to produce the new fast fashion that then ends up as second hand clothing because fashionistas declutter it after wearing it twice.
Even so, not even thrift shops get all their stuff sold, no matter how nice it is. Obviously it's great that people who don't have as much money can afford these things, but even then there is MASSIVE surplus and in the long run it just sucks for the planet and the people producing it.

Following Kon Mari Method, I advise you to fold vertically everything that can be folded and hang just those clothes that are too light and cannot be folded, like silk or any other light materials. Folding vertically requires much less space than hanging everything and you closet will look much more spacious. Durante the second day you notice that you already have there pairs of pants of the same colours. How could that happen? It’s easy, if you don’t see the clothes, the shoes, bags or any other thing, you don’t remember that you have them and buy a similar one. I don’t know if you have more clothes in the two dressers you mentioned, but if I were you, I’d declutter clothes you don’t wear every six months, at least. With all my respect, I think you have lots of stuff. Just think about all the movings you will have to make in the future. What you wear and use all the time, except for the seasonal clothing, there are basics that we use all the time. It would be interesting to analyse how much stuff of that you have kept are you going to use.

@@hanjisung1534 here some people in America will steal shoes if outside if then we live close to each other. guarantee it's not the next door neighbor stealing shoes. it is the 3 florr or the next building neighbor . that is why they go in the closet but we do clean the dirt off , i usually leave mine by the door on the inside. but i put in my closet after 3 days.

big homes = big bedrooms and it's not unusual to have a big built in closet for clothes , where in the UK we use freestanding wardrobes for clothes which is handy for me as i can limit my clothes by having a small wardrobe space. my shoes are near my front door so not in my bedroom .

That was my goal too lmao, now I have like 10 casual shirts, 10 dress shirts, about 5 dresses, 3 pairs of jeans, two skirts and a couple tank tops lmao. Meanwhile my donations are two massive trash bags worth of stuff. (I tended to get handmedowns as the youngest out of 2 other siblings, and for some reason I kept them as I moved? I guess I was just too lazy at the time to go through it and get rid of it.)

I don't think Marie condo's method of "does it spark joy?" Is really applicable for a couple of reasons...
There are things we need that don't spark joy (like strapless bras... Business casual clothes) and
Material things shouldn't spark much joy in us anyway... They're material objects
I do very much enjoy that you let your cat take up a whole space on your bed when you desperately needed surface area to sort through clothes though... Precious baby :3
The whole point of sparking joy isn't to feel joy through things that aren't important. It's about not holding onto things that you don't enjoy wearing, or are indifferent about. Using spark joy is about seeing a dress, and think ahh it's so cute! I can totally imagine wearing that on a breezy summer day! It doesn't mean throwing away a lamp that you need to study with.
Material items can most definitely bring joy...you can have a favourite pen or a favourite mug. As for items that don't necessarily spark joy but are a necessity...they can still lead to joy. Maybe a strapless bra doesn't spark joy but it can bring you joy by allowing you to look good in a specific dress. And maybe your business clothes don't spark joy but they allow you to look professional at work where you can make money. And if these items don't spark joy perhaps that shows that you should invest in ones that do 🤷🏻♀️

You should buy black velvet hangers from amazon. I buied them a year ago and they are the best thing. They make closets look much more organized.

Some people who are into the KonMari method might still enjoy watching videos like this for inspiration. She was actually using the method too, holding items and asking herself if they spark joy. You don't have to be good at it! ;)

Marie Kondo doesn't advise you to keep something because you like the colour, you'll wear it someday, and to throw the decluttered items carelessly off screen.
It's not about doing it well, it's about at least reading a goddamn blog post about what KonMari IS. I just hate clickbait and everyone tagging their shit as minimalism this, KonMari that, just because it's on trend.
@@lelexoxo303 I get you, I hate clickbait too, especially when it is brazenly false, but I was just saying I don't think this girl's intentions were wrong. I have read the book myself so I know how the method works, and she was asking herself the questions that Marie Kondo suggests. Just because you're not good at letting go of things and you still fall into the old habits of 'oh maybe I'll wear it sometime' doesn't mean we should shame the person who is at least giving it a go.
@@inherhead1712 I just feel like one of Kondo's essential maximes is to treat the things you let go with respect and to think about your consumption habits for the future. I felt like this couldn't be further off point. It's not just about decluttering so you can fit next season's collection of fast fashion into your wardrobe.

What really helped me to get a perspective on the amount of clothing I used to have is counting it and then asking myself "How many days would it last?". When the answer is that you have enough hoodies to last a month or enough tops to go through a whole season without repeating an item it's really sobering...

My closet is so small that I'm jealous of the "whatever thing you don't know where to put on the house" room's closet.
It's literally 3x times bigger😅😂
The truck I do is if I haven’t worn it in over a year, I get rid of it. That usually means I don’t like the fit or style for me. My closet is big and not even 1/4 full with my summer/most worn tops. (I have flannels and thick shirts put away but even then it’s small) even all my bottoms now fit in my dresser with room to spare. I enjoy cleaning out my stuff. (I got rid of 2 1/2 trash bags of clothes. By donating and selling)

bruh all of my clothes which include pants jeans underwear bras and socks and sweatshirts literally all fit in one suitcase and my shoes fit in a small ass duffle bag and literally all my shirts are tshirts/band shirts that i hate cause they are all from 8th grade while i’m a junior😂
