Cora, this past Labor Day weekend (actually that Saturday), I helped move my son into his dorm for his freshman year at UW-Whitewater (it was mostly the smaller stuff as they had the "drop and go" ( which they instituted after the pandemic, which also reduced the move in day insanity) the weekend before, where he unloaded the bigger items with my sister in law the previous weekend.
Travel time from home in our case was roughly 4 hours, so we left in separate vehicles (as he was keeping a car on campus) the day before and stayed overnight in Whitewater (I'm too old to be doing an 8-9 hour round trip the same day). Drive down was rather interesting to say the least (at least on my part).
On move in day that morning, there was a 13 degree difference in temperature (58 back home Up North and 71 in Whitewater, but with the humidity that 71 felt a lot warmer (not quite as hot as your move in day was (that was more like when we were down there in June for Orientation, where it actually hit 100 degrees)). Of course there was no room in front of the dorm to park and unload (that would have been too easy), so we parked in the lot across from the dorm (about half to two thirds up the lot, (Dad got his exercise that day)). The rest of the move in process was done in about an hour (give or take).
On the day he came home for winter break, Whitewater had 3-4 inches of snow on the ground. We had about 3 feet of snow on the ground (and still have that much on the ground, at this rate it will be here until Memorial Day).
