With that amount of clothes I would like to propose an idea for a video. No-buy challenge with styling every day a piece from the wardrobe. Once you’ve wore all the pieces then you are allowed to buy new.
I don't have a youtube channel, my mother and I did this and it took us 18 months of wearing clothes only once, laundry, place in suitcase or pass it on. After the 18 months we had to bring back out our jeans and leggings that we had already worn to get some of the unworn tops through the process! We still have a small pile of unworn clothes. We didn't completely ban ourselves from buying anything new during that time. It has truly been a good exercise and it is totally excessive to have so many clothes. Clare from the UK.
@@LittleRockQueen14 I put together three outfits per week for both my mother and myself then laundered them and put them away in a suitcase or deciding we didn't want them anymore and putting them up for sale on Vinted. We did this for 18 months and still had a pile of unworn clothes. No repeats at all.
Hey Alexa, for your perspiration stained whites, you need to grab your washing up bowl, mix water with white vinegar, (not white wine vinegar) just distilled white vinegar put your blouse in and leave it soaking at least overnight, then rinse and then launder as normal, not too hot on the temperature as that can set the stain. Hope this helps. Thanks for the video. Clare and my mother, Susan from the UK.
its so nice seeing you get excited about the clothes you already own!!! also i'd love to see a video where you sit down with a friend who ISN'T a fashion influencer(? content creator?) and go through their closet or share advice about styling. basically someone who owns little to medium amount of clothes. I'd love to see how you would style different trends and outfits with a very basic closet that a person actually owns, not just a set of neutrals or a specifically curated mystery box. i would say it ties a bit to deinfluencing, with how most people only own 1-2 pieces for every occasion and dont have a whole roster out of which they can choose the perfect option, but you can show that cool outfits can still be made with a limited amount of clothes. i hope this make sense and have a nice week!
I think the silhouettes you like tend towards 90’s preppy and feminine styles but the colours and textures are more colourful and fun. I’d describe your style as the quirky friend in a 90’s teen movie 😊.
Honestly, it's so good to see you're not getting rid of that much. It means you've created a wardrobe that works for you and doesn't need much tweaking ❤
24:49 Oh but please take the strawberry cardigan off the hanger! Especially considering it’s handmade + you don’t wear it much + it looks heavy - there will be stretch marks from the hanger in the shoulders if it hangs too long. You can hang it sideways (there are hack videos) if you have to have it on a hanger :)
Alexa!! Try treating your underarm stains with a paste made from hydrogen peroxide, blue dawn dish soap, and baking soda. Put it on with a little brush (or toothbrush) and let sit for a minimum of an hour before washing regularly. As a sweaty gal myself, this is the only thing that removes yellow stains from all my white tops :)
I think your style is simply eclectic. I've come to terms with the fact that that is also my style , if I like it, anything goes 😂, like seriously. There is no need for labels or boxes when it comes to fashion and personal style, which makes it all the more exciting 😊
Stain remover advice!!! I recommend doing a “strip” of your whites. This would include oxi-clean, borax, and your bathtub. There are lots of tutorials out there! But you definitely have enough white clothes that it would be worth the time. For future use I recommend a sew-in garment shield if the top can support it.
Based on the pieces you kept, I would say your style doesn't fall into a "traditional" category of style but rather your style is just things that make you happy
I am reading a decluttering book and *it says the best way to do it, is to put it all on the ground* !!! (So you can see it all, to sort out easier) So you are doing it right lol 😂💚🐝-Bee
I have tried several methods to get rid off yellow stains and only found two that worked: Tip 1: Squeeze a lemon on the stain and leave the garment in direct sunlight. Tip 2: Powder bicarbonate on the stain and pour hydrogen peroxide (I use 3% which can be found in Swedish pharmacies). Let it sit for a while and then wash in the machine as usual.
Alexa! I know not everyone wants medical advice but you might have hyperhidrosis which is treatable with topical medication or underarm Botox! Talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for Drysol or another medication that you can apply to your underarms at night to prevent daytime sweating! They can also discuss other options with you for treatment.
I get my sweat stains out with watered down bleach with shampoo and leave them to soak and scrub with an old toothbrush depending on how bag the stain is, works everytime for me even with items I’ve bought second hand :) Also here from insta ready to watch all 51 minutes 🥰
The sun bleaches white clothes, it's natural and works wonders! Wash the fabric (maybe soak with lemon) and then let it dry in the sun. Make sure the stains get lots of UV ☀️🍋
You can clean the yellowing off of white clothing by mixing 1:1:1 baking soda, dish soap (I have never had issues with colored dish soap but you can use something clear to be sure), and hydrogen peroxide and scrubbing that paste into the stains with a toothbrush, leave for 20 minutes, then launder.
i know you’ve mentioned it before, but i’d loooove to see a color analysis video from you!! i feel like it would help with narrowing down all the items that you love but still never reach for! i’ve noticed for myself that even if something is so amazing, if the color looks off on me i still won’t wear it even if i want to. its great because you don’t HAVE to follow whatever season you get, but it can give you an understanding for why you feel like you can never make certain things work despite loving them (for example, even though i love it, i know hot pink makes me look like death, so no matter how cute an item is, i know i’ll never wear it.)
How to declutter fast! The only decluttering rule I live by-the only one that works for me anyway-is to instantly put all of your items into a 'get-rid' pile, such as your clothes, jewelry, home accessories, et cetra, with an adamant mindset that you are about to rid of them all, only, you retrieve the items from the pile that you absolutely need or truly want to keep. This technique has helped me to sell or donate my things in great abundance than if I just spooled through my wardrobe and picked out only a couple of items. Another way to rid of your possessions is to look at an item and ask yourself, "If this were displayed in a store today, would I purchase it?" If the answer is no, get rid of it. I hope this helps!
I think your color season is a spring! 🌸 I can’t be sure if you are either a true spring or a light spring, but makes sense why you love how white looks on you and pastels too 🌸💕
I’ve been thinking for the longest time that she’s a spring. Other than the pure black and white, which are technically winter seasons but have certain purposes in her wardrobe, she looks great in clear, warm colours - like sunshine! The poppy red is perfect!
i'm moving in a couple months too and this inspired me to go through my closet ASAP to avoid being overwhelmed close to my move out date! such a good idea!!
Hey Alexa! I've had the same sweating issue my entire life; there was a long few years that I was so self conscious about it that I never wore coloured tops for fear of my sweat stains showing. My partner knew how badly it was effecting my self-confidence and went on the hunt for the best antiperspirant he could find. We ended up on the Rexona Clinical Protection Summer Strength Deodorant and it has been an absolute game changer for me - I can now wear white and colourful tops without the fear of sweating through them. Highly recommend!
I have the same problem with white tops and sweat stains, and for a while the internet convinced me I needed to go aluminum free with my deodorant... which worked, but then I started sweating MORE and smelling MORE lol. So I went back to my heavy duty antiperspirants. ANYWAYS, my eventual solution was this: 1. soak clothes in water and vinegar for at least 20 minutes. (I usually do about a 2:1 ratio) 2. Make a paste of hydrogen peroxide + water (depending on the strength of yours, mine is industrial from my dad's work so I need to dilute) and baking soda. Make sure it's not too watery. 3. It's not gonna be easy or graceful but I like to use an old tooth brush and scrub it into the sweat stains. lol 4. Let sit for at least an hour, depending on severity then wash as usual. (again if they're really bad you may want a longer/hotter cycle)
Alexa for your style wise some key words that come to mind based on the things you like to keep are square smocked tops, but also you like some flashy, funky bold and bright patterns (but also you have sort of an eclectic, yet nostalgic vintage patterns that you enjoy too) and colors that may be considered a bit extra or gaudy to others with a fun graphic. You tend to like some primary colors, not so much muted or pastels. You also tend to like some fruit patterns like specifically more so red fruit as in cherries and strawberries, but you also enjoy comfort and basics. So maybe you're style would be considered to be eclectic and flashy, with a touch of retro vintage (like 80s/90s), outdoor country grandparent style mixed with cottagecore, and comfort! I don't know if these are 100% the right words to describe, but these are what came to mind. I hope this helps! :) One thing that has helped me was to create a things I don't like list and you can go as specific or as vague as you'd like with things you don't like. For example: you can have a Sweaters category and put down a fabric category and list what kind of fabrics you don't like, or what kind of fit/colors/patterns etcetera and you can do this with anything. It really helps to narrow down your style. Then you can also make a separate list of things you love that are a 10/10 and only put 10/10 items on there (not anything below 6/10) and after a while you will be able to learn the difference between what you like and don't like. Then you can have all of your thoughts in one place and when you go thrifting, or want to remember why you love or don't like a certain item, you can reference your list and it'll save you a ton of time!
So good! I love long videos like this. I hope you never part with that strawberry cardigan, it's my fave piece of your wardrobe! Going through exercises like this is so important when you thrift frequently.
For sweat stains specifically, there are a couple of things you can do, but one thing to really avoid is chlorine/traditional bleach. It does not remove the stain and can make it look darker and more yellow. I add oxigen bleach, like Oxiclean (though any generic brand will work), with my normal detergent in every whites laundry load. It completely gets rid of sweat stains, and you can also use it to strip stubborn stains from whites like other comments have suggested. As a fellow sweaty gorl, just adding it to my wash load has always been enough for underarm stains! No spot cleaning needed 🤍
For sweat stains on white clothes: Oxiclean, but soak the clothes for a couple hours (basically use hot/warm water to dissolve the oxiclean and soak the clothes on it) It may take a couple soaks depending on how stained the garment is. Also Oxigenated Water!
I would buy that cropped crochet top in a heart beat!! Also if you haven’t looked into Style Roots, I think it’s easier to find what your style is without being really restrictive. Like when I see your style it’s very very Sun & Flower for sure!
I also pull everything out and put it in piles. It is more work for some people but I think I make better decisions. It also makes me really think about what I have, what's similar, and how everything is organized. Can it be better organized? Seeing something out of place helps you compare it to everything else.
I’m also a member of sweaty girl nation. I used to be never wear white top. I’ve tried everything in terms of preventing pit stains and honestly there are just two things that worked for me. 1. Wearing undershirts specifically designed for sweat. I like the ones from Numi. These only work for sleeved tops however. 2. I finally bit the bullet and got a Miradry treatment. It basically kills some of the sweat glands in your pits permanently. I still get damp pits, but nothing like before. I honestly highly recommend it.
Liquid bluing was historically used on white garments to remove yellow stains caused by sweat and dirt-it's basically blue dye that is fractionally added to soaking water. The blue cancels out the yellow (color theory is amazing). Give it a shot if a vinegar soak doesn't work!
Great video thank you Alexa. For the perspiration stains try 1 cup of Cascade dishwasher soap and add 4 cups of boiling water. Let the soap melt. Then put your clothes in a bowl, add the dishwasher soap and hot water and let it sit for the night. Then wash it with your clothes.
To remove stains on white clothes, you can try soaking them in warm water and sodium percarbonate in powder form. I’ve done it with antique blouses that were yellow (because they are 100 years old) and they came out white !
I love watching these videos. I myself do a closet purge in the beginning of every year, just did one last week. It feels weirdly therapeutic and freeing, getting rid of clothes i just don't wear anymore and making space for some new pieces :)
this video captures so much of what I love about personal style and how we choose to express ourselves. there were a few pieces where I thought, "no, that looks so good on you! how could you get rid of it?" but, just like you said, if you're not feeling it and you don't reach for it, that's the most important thing! I've found that I really prefer shopping alone for this reason; it's lovely to go with friends, but I sometimes find that I can get swayed by their opinion of what looks good on me, even if I'm not feeling it. we don't have to wear what looks flattering or good to other people. people can tell me I look good in purple all they want, I'm not gonna wear it so I won't buy it! anyways, would also love to see you get a professional color analysis and see whether it changes how you view your wardrobe. not that it *should*, like wear the colors you like, but it may add some dimension to how you choose to style your wardrobe! :)
It was really interesting to see the pieces you said you’d get rid of were ones that were instantly unflattering in terms of either cut or color! Maybe you felt the same watching it back on your edit, but as a viewer it was night and day. Always love watching these, I admire you being so conscientious about overconsumption, even though your job requires you to buy and buy!
For the yellow stains try baking soda! You can make like a modeling clay and apply it to the arm pits of the tshirt. Let it rest and send it to the washing machine. My mom told me about it and it worked for me! Also I think Carrie has a video in which she talks about a certain product for it :) Greetings from Spain!
you are so funny and so me when i am cleaning out my closet 😂😂 so excited to shop your whatnot show next week! i love your pieces so much❤❤❤ edit to say- i just thrifted a karen scott christmas turtleneck and though of you❤ lol your influence is FELT!! 😂
Baking soda and vinegar mixture. Make a paste out of it and rub that into the armpit stain with a tooth brush and then wash as normal. I’ve had good results with that. Do it frequently and that should help keep the yellow staining at bay.
This is inspiring me to do a closet clean out too. My closet is busting at the seams and I’ve recently gained some weight so it’s definitely in need of a good decluttering. I just need to put aside some time to actually do it.
Definitely do more declutter videos in future, when the time comes round again :) And here was me thinking I had loads of jackets, but you definitely win .. by a long shot!! I think storage arrangement makes all the difference, though. You've got a great system there. Unfortunately in my current flat storage isn't ideal so I feel overwhelmed by all my clothes and it feels like an enormous amount when in fact it isn't, just the space isn't good (and I live somewhere that really does have 4 seasons). So although I am fairly strict in my decluttering, I need to be careful to not be too strict either and regret getting rid of stuff!
5:27 USE SHOUT! It’s an absolute life saver and it’s what I use to get my underarm stains out. Shout (white bottle) or the green bottle of Spray n’ Wash
I found that I was ruining my white tops with yellow armpit stains, but when I switched to natural deodorant (no antiperspirant) the issue went away.... There is an adjustment period, but the body adjusts. I sweat more, but I'm actually rarely stinky, lol
Here to support you on the wavy check Lisa Says Gah vest 🤝 honestly, the fit of it is the best part like the big waistband and the capped sleeves are sooo cute!
Regarding underarm staining: I was never able to find a way to get rid of those stains but I have finally found one deodorant that doesn’t leave them. It’s the arm and hammer essentials stick. I get super bad stress sweat everyday and since buying this deodorant I haven’t had a single yellow stain which is crazy because formerly I’d ruin every white top I had with sweat stains! It’s definitely been a life saver to me so I wanted to pass that along. Most sweat stains are chemical reactions to antiperspirant but I’ve found sometimes even aluminum free deodorant would leave stains still. Not this stuff. 5:51
omg cant believe your lease is almost finished!!! have u grown to like this house more than u used to? also ty for this upload couldnt have come at a better time i was SO bored today
I've had pretty good luck with tide stain remover on sweat stains! also botox can be really amazing to stop excess sweating if it's something you're open to.
do you make sure to wash your whites by themselves? A white wash detergent can be enough, if the stains are bad, make a solution of the detergent and paste it onto the stains before washing :) Also, avoid aluminium in your deodorants in general! :)
You have to give the shirts a by hand scrub in the pit area using baking soda and a soap of your choice. Then soak the clothing in a baking soda and detergent solution (the longer the better). Another option or combo with first option option use Mrs Stewart’s liquid bluing concentrate. It’s a white clothing brightening product. It’s a concentrate that needs to be diluted with water and used during the rinsing cycle. The best solution is to practice using these options immediately following wear to avoid staining that’s hard to remove. Immediately after wearing top hand scrub stain with the baking soda and detergent. Hope is not lost because I have removed old pit stains, mustard, wine etc… I’m really good at getting my whites extremely white and bright.
I'd recommend putting things you don't wear much in a different spot and focus on those, like I have a bookshelf specifically for TBR so I can see them regularly and be reminded they exist.
For underarm stains, I use Rit Dye Laundry Treatment Super Stain Remover. I just put a little bit on the stain, let it sit for about 10 minutes then wash as normal.
I once thrifted a white cotton western shirt, but it was so yellowed and gross. I used a bit of dish soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide and used a tooth brush to apply the paste and scrub the stains. After ten minutes, I rinsed and washed normally and it came out beautifully! Hope this works for you too!
I'd love to see a video of you styling the "I have to wear this in the next 30 days or I'm getting rid of it" pieces! :)
Same!

Glad to see we agree! I can't decide if sun or flower are the primary one. @@christinamann3640
So good! I love long videos like this. I hope you never part with that strawberry cardigan, it's my fave piece of your wardrobe! Going through exercises like this is so important when you thrift frequently.
I like that this isnt focused on purging your closet. There is something to be said about enjoying the clothes you have. 😊
For sweat stains on white clothes:
Oxiclean, but soak the clothes for a couple hours (basically use hot/warm water to dissolve the oxiclean and soak the clothes on it)
It may take a couple soaks depending on how stained the garment is.
Also Oxigenated Water!
I was threatened to be here
(love you Alexa)
See it worked you’re here!!!! 😅💘💘💘
The yeehaw young Taylor Swift tee has me dying! I love it!
Give it a shot if a vinegar soak doesn't work!
oxy clean white revive is amazing for brightening whites and getting rid of pit stains. Highly recommend trying! Plus it is cheap
You should try the black cashmere sweater front side back. I’ve been doing this with tank tops since I saw Laini do it, and it looks amazing!!
Great video thank you Alexa.
For the perspiration stains try 1 cup of Cascade dishwasher soap and add 4 cups of boiling water. Let the soap melt. Then put your clothes in a bowl, add the dishwasher soap and hot water and let it sit for the night. Then wash it with your clothes.
ur videos help so much with my anxiety so thank you for this 50 min long vid 🥹❤️
To remove stains on white clothes, you can try soaking them in warm water and sodium percarbonate in powder form. I’ve done it with antique blouses that were yellow (because they are 100 years old) and they came out white !
Is that different than baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)?
@@jennymcsweeney7073yes it’s different!
if I had to describe your style in two words, it would be eclectic and delightful
I enjoy so much decluttering clothes videos. Especially if most of the clothes are thrifted 🥰
Also I can't believe I was binging all your declutter videos today and you release this today?? Im so happy
The dark brown cardigan is soo beautiful, fell in love with it
I’ve never voted so fast for a 50 minute video😍 Here for every second of this!!
Wow I have never known anyone with such a huge wardrobe of clothes!
yeess!! i'll watch every second!!💓💓
For the yellow stains try baking soda! You can make like a modeling clay and apply it to the arm pits of the tshirt. Let it rest and send it to the washing machine. My mom told me about it and it worked for me! Also I think Carrie has a video in which she talks about a certain product for it :) Greetings from Spain!
you are so funny and so me when i am cleaning out my closet 😂😂 so excited to shop your whatnot show next week! i love your pieces so much❤❤❤
edit to say- i just thrifted a karen scott christmas turtleneck and though of you❤ lol your influence is FELT!! 😂
Your style is like every single character from friends. I love it!
I think your style incorporates so much. I'd say something like a Funky, Cowgirl inspired, Cottagegirl ♥️
Definitely do more declutter videos in future, when the time comes round again :)
And here was me thinking I had loads of jackets, but you definitely win .. by a long shot!! So although I am fairly strict in my decluttering, I need to be careful to not be too strict either and regret getting rid of stuff!
the white slouchy sweater and both mid rise baggy jeans are literally perfect and looked amazing on you 💙
I love your fashion content even though my style is totally different 😅
Why am I so obsessed with watching closet clean outs?
I watched it til the end like promised!! Video idea: Styling all of your items where you were like "Alexa, you need to wear this piece more" xoxo
YOUR OUTFIT IN THIS VIDEO IS SOOO GOOD!!!🌟 you look so well-rounded
You kept a lot of things where you said, "actually, this is not my favorite..." Maybe consider make a second pass through your clothes before moving.
For sweat stains, also try an enzyme cleaner. It helps break down the sweat :)
Held up my end of the promise!! Watched the full vid and loved every minute!
I've had pretty good luck with tide stain remover on sweat stains! also botox can be really amazing to stop excess sweating if it's something you're open to.
Definitely 90s style with a hint of modern comfy girly
The pastel/sage GREEN looks really great on you
do you make sure to wash your whites by themselves?
Hope is not lost because I have removed old pit stains, mustard, wine etc… I’m really good at getting my whites extremely white and bright.
love the long video! 💕 got to watch while doing all my laundry haha
Probably my favorite yearly video of yours let me pop some popcorn
I'd recommend putting things you don't wear much in a different spot and focus on those, like I have a bookshelf specifically for TBR so I can see them regularly and be reminded they exist.
I love closet clean outs! So sad that I will be at work during your whatnot show 😭
For underarm stains, I use Rit Dye Laundry Treatment Super Stain Remover.
