Looks like a great day of harvesting on the burn! Seems like an early start in the low elevations this season. Kicking in the morel fever! Thank you 🍄🔥
At 2:33, you walked right past a big one right before you pointed out the first two that you spotted. It's amazing how well they blend in with the surroundings!
Finally haha. Was waiting for this. Only found a few verpas so far. The mica caps are JUST popping up. Another day or two and they'll be everywhere in SW WA
@josephbromley6895 I have been itching to get out now, the weather is about right at lower elevations. I've found some around this daily and overnight temp on tubbs. Im going out this weekend, and you should too!
We were hiking in McKenzie Pass in Oregon this weekend - mostly near the river (1200ft Elevation). There was a burn there a few years ago and the area is still recovering. I didn't see any Morels. Highs were in the 60's and lows in the low 40's. I did see a few birds nest, LBMs, and various tree fungi but nothing much yet.
They usually spray a lot of herbicides etc. before they replant…I’ve usually avoided those areas for fear of uptake & accumulation but I’ve never actually researched it. Have you? Either way great vid and exciting to see they’ve come up out there. I checked a spot on W cascades
I picked a Morel in Tn that looked just like a true Morel but it was a brighter yellow then i had ever seen needless to say it made me so sick for a couple days.
Great Tips! SE Wisconsin here, we've got a prescribed burn scheduled 4/12 and no morels in our area quite yet. Any time frame after a burn they start popping?
WHAT STATE ARE U IN WE R IN MICHIGAN STILL VERY COLD HAS NOT REACHED 50 YET SO GROUND IS MOST LIKELY STILL PRETTY COLD,,,,I HOPE TO FIND SOME IN MICHIGAN I WENT W FRIENDS ONCE THEY HELPED ME FINE EM BUT THEY MOVED OUT OF STATE N I NEED SOME TEACHERS TO HELP ME FIND THEM NOW,,,,WISH ME LUCK...GREAT VIDEO
What is it about a burn that causes Morels to fruit heavily? Does it free op nutrients for the mushrooms, or do the trees send out a distress call to the mycelium requesting help in the form of minerals and water needed to regrow the forest? And why dont the morels absorb things from the soot and charcoal that would make them taste like charred wood?
That's quite a few questions, and the first consideration is that it's somewhat unknown as to why they fruit so heavily from the burn. Could have something to do on a mycorrhizal level, but also maybe because the soil has been conditioned from the fire to what morels really like. It could be perhaps the fungi has been living underground or even within the roots of the trees until the fire came, which signaled a distress call, and the fungi starts to produce fruiting bodies to spread their spores to new forest that are unburnt. I think they don't pick up the flavor, much like oyster mushrooms wouldn't pick up the flavor of wood, or button mushrooms wouldn't pick up the flavor of manure, because it breaks down those compounds to a molecular level and reorganizes them to create hyphae, So it's a completely different molecular being.
We usually find natural morels , Morchella snyderi, on the east side of the Cascades starting around the second week of May. The higher elevation means colder soil temperatures, which morels tend to prefer 50° soil for a week before they start to fruit. That's why, as the summer goes on, the morels go higher and higher in elevation. By August they can be found at 7,000 plus feet.
@@mushroomwonderland1 thank you! I grew up hunting morels in the midwest and it is just starting over there. I will keep an eye out on the eastern slopes in a month or so. Thanks!
Right around sea level they're popping up everywhere! My mom sent me a picture this afternoon of a big one in her garden. Yesterday I found about 25 growing on the edge of a new lawn. Right at sea level. As the weather gets warmer they're going to start to climb in elevation,
Those are beautiful morels, seems like your season started earlier than usual too :)
Good morning to you all and have a Blissful day
Bless you all
Love the intro's more & more Aaron! Thanx for the boots on the ground updates! 👍
Another excellent myco vid from the man himself!
Thanks for the content bud! 👍
Can't wait for spring here in Alaska, thank you for sharing you adventures!!

How do you differentiate good to eat vs poisonous.
I don't mind the little black bugs, it's those white grub larva things, they get into the meat of the mushroom. Probably good for you.😂
Have you ever found burn morels this early in the Kitsap Peninsula before? Landscaping morels are one thing but surprised to see these in March!
There are also landscape morels popping up right now, it is unusually early though!
I'm guessing this is pretty low elevation?
Yes, about 200' asl
I soak them in salt water to get the bugs out and they are fine ❤.

Will morels grow on the west side of WA?
I picked a Morel in Tn that looked just like a true Morel but it was a brighter yellow then i had ever seen needless to say it made me so sick for a couple days.
Did you cook it?
Or eat it raw?

Usually the next year, but I'm not sure about burn morels out there? I think they may be limited to the west. I'd be happy to be wrong though.
A simple picture and Google search gives you all the names he is calling. However it does not cover for someone claiming to know that does not
Got any pointers/location for finding Morels Aaron!? i too live the 253 near the Narrows Bridge. Thx!
Low river basins with cottonwood trees, new landscaping wood chips, and burned areas are all having morels pop up
@@mushroomwonderland1 Thank you brother!

When are verpes due to come up?
They're coming up right now in Western Washington!
I've seen that cup fungi for sale in Chinese medicine shops. Is this the same stuff?
Not sure! That's interesting.
Waiting in Nor Cal to go to my spots
If the morel is sold inside, is it still edible?
Sorry, if it's solid?
I've never heard of such a thing. Have you found one like this? Morels are hollow inside.
Hollow inside= Morel
Solid inside = false morel(poisonous)

Hey there - im in Vancouver WA and want to go this weekend for morels....what elevation level should we be looking for them??
Right around sea level they're popping up everywhere! My mom sent me a picture this afternoon of a big one in her garden. Yesterday I found about 25 growing on the edge of a new lawn. Right at sea level. As the weather gets warmer they're going to start to climb in elevation,
Awesome!!! I'm excited to go find some! Thanks so much for the info 😊
We just got 12 inches of snow. Warming up, though.
looks like sextalata to me.
Giros or brains have caused blindness. Be cautious when drying.
love your content and the effort in editing...
Aren't cup fungi poisonous?
No, they're non -toxic as far as I know
If you end up having time to put the sextelata/septimelatas under microscope I'm interested to see what you find with the DNA sequencing!
I soak in warm salt water and spin in salad spinner to get water out
Good idea
Spins most of the water and dirt out. ✌️🍄 I spin them in small batches
Where did you find a salad spinner big enough to spin in
Leave the babies dude
I left SO many babies, but I don't have to.😉🍄
They don't mature. They come out size They always will be.
Not true
Use salt water to remove bugs. This guy sounds like a novice morelt hunter that has no clue what he is talking about
You sound like a know it all hater
What state is this.. i dont find blacks until end of april and theyre tiny outside yellowstone montana
This is Washington State. It is unusually early, but even the landscape morels are popping up.
@mushroomwonderland1 u guys get lots of rain or what are ur night lows? I have a few patches of blacks that prodcue.. but never before April 25th..
