- Thanks for watching and all the support to get me here! Appreciate you sharing for anyone thinking of running an ultra race as I hope there are some great ultra running insights in here.
I've been working hard over the last 3 years on my passion for ultra running and each year I'm seeing an improvement. This year my A race was the Arc of Attrition which is a 100 mile ultra running winter race around the brutal and unforgiving coastline of Cornwall UK.
The aim was to go Sub 24 hours and claim the prestigious Arc of Attrition Black Buckle. Running it 2 years before, recceing the hardest coast section weeks before and training going well, I felt I was very prepared - but as always with ultra running you never know what problems you have to solve during the 100 miles. And there were a few.
Hope you enjoy my insights and it gives you some inspiration for your next ultra race!

Adam - my comment for someone else went on your video (odd). This is absolutely awesome. Well done again 💪🏼 inspo for my attempt at finishing in 2024
Yes I saw that. It’s hard to keep up sometimes 🤣🤣
Finishing is a great achievement,
Finishing 4th is Great and a great achievement.
Amazing stuff.
Thank you 🙏 😃
@@ultrarunneradam can I pick your brains and ask how you find that watch? I terrible at following signs and thinking of getting one. I have no interest in heart rate etc I just want something to download GPX files to to help me not get As lost. Cheers
Supreme talent. Utterly inspiring!
Cheers Dan - I’m glad i inspire ⚡️GTR ⚡️
Saw you in the Run4adventure video and had to watch your recap. Amazing finish! Great job.
Thanks - best race performance for me to date - the R4A coverage was great - Lloyds a top chap! 😎👍👏
Massive well done epic result
Thanks appreciate it 💪😀
Fantastic 😀😀
Thanks 🙏 🤪
This is so helpful! Thank you for sharing, and congratulations on the finish as well :D
Thanks - glad it helped 😀😀😀😀
Congratulations! Fantastic experience and thanks for sharing :)
My pleasure - certainly up there with the best life experiences 👍👍👍
Top result. Great vlog. 👍💪
Thanks Ian 👍👍
What a race 👏. Congrats
Thanks for watching 😀
Shut the Front Door! That's amazing! Bet that ranking was the icing on the cake :)
Did Pilgrim's this weekend, and ran past St Martha's church (?). Reminded me of your octopus video, you were right, stunning up there :)
Nice spot isn’t it. Lucky to live close by - the door is shut 😂😂
awesome ... nice work buddy
Thanks 😊
Huge congrats! I was following you on the live tracker and have been looking forward to your breakdown of the event. Great stuff, very inspiring.
Dot watching is the new pastime! thanks for your support and glad you enjoyed the spectacle!
Hell's bloody bollocks Adam that's an amazing result.
Laughing out loud! You know it.
Incredible. Watched every minute of that recap. The battle of body versus mind is so real in an ultra and I've not found anything that can replace that internal battle, especially when you win it! Great encouragement to know that, despite the bad times in a race like that you can always pull out back. Awesome awesome stiff - well done!
For me I know Ive had a good 100 miles race if I can push from mile 80 - thats is where you make it up. This is my 5th so out of the 5 Ive done the first and last have been a success. Thanks for watching all the way through too it was a bit of an epic but not sure how you can consilidate anymore
Wonderful review, inspirational. Well done Adam - legend 🏃🏻♂️💪✌️🏁
Thank you! Pleased you liked it 👍👍
Fantastic result. Great confidence builder going forward 👏 👍 🙌
Thanks Jason - for sure all helps with the confidence and the next step
Amazing effort. Was great to crew and witness the madness. Very inspiring. Plenty of learnings for the next one too! Keep on running! Enjoyed the vid - Loved the chips at Praa Sands. J
Brotherly love 💙 wouldn’t have done it without you ✌️
Well done Adam! Watched this with great interest and can totally relate. Just what I needed before considering entering next year. From dealing with the ‘night youth’ to the mental battle of your hand hitting your race number 😂, you dealt with it all and with a brilliant result. Something to be proud of. 👌💪🏼
Appreciate the kind words. Def lots of things thrown at me on this one. Having a crew really helps if your thinking of having a go and a recce before hand to sharpen the mind. The youth of today 🤔😂🤩
Truly inspirational Adam, amazing achievement and a great insight into your race and running the Arc. I'm even more motivated to get a 100 under my belt now. Keep up the good work 👍🏃⚡️GTR⚡️
Thanks Wayne its was a good one. Y es mate! 100 mile goals!! See you at GTR but not next week as 2 weeks off
Amazing stuff mate. Again, super effort … 4th 👍. “Never give up”
Never give up ✌️
Absolutely brilliant job mate. The personal achievement and to finish 4th as well. So happy for you. Inspirational. I'd be wearing that buckle everywhere.
Cheers Tony - yes getting the buckle made it super special for me - 4th was icing on the cake 😀😀😀
Many many congrats Adam 👍all the training paid off 👏👏👏
Thanks Craig - yup training seems to work 😂
Hmmmm @@ultrarunneradam I might try it 😜
Congratulations Adam, smashed it! Would love to do this one, that buckle is amazing!
Cheers James - it’s a beaut. Need to find a good picture framer now to get it on the wall!
Outstanding Adam.
A brilliant run on one of the most challenging courses in Britain. I think having watched your race experience, I’ve realised that it’s not only an extreme physical challenge, but a mental one too. Words like, isolation, desperation, anxiety, come to mind!
I’d love to complete it!
Huge congratulations again.
Thank you - means alot - all of those wrapped into one - if completing is your goal keep building towards to it - youll get there in the end 💪💪💪💪
Hi Adam, I've just come across your channel. Huge congratulations on this achievement, that's really impressive! It must have been an incredible experience.
Hi Chloe - thanks and it was! Pushes you all the way and past that limit you think you have. Thanks for watching!! 🤩🤩
Great breakdown Adam. Well done on a top performance. I was on a sub24 plan too, but my last 10miles scuppered that. My mum kept seeing you at various stops and said you were super friendly. I too had Ben at Zennor steps giving great advice. So well done again on having a great race. Obviously I'll be at the Arc again going for the black buckle. Love the channel, Dan 👍
Hey Dan - yes I remember your mum - knowing you were chasing gave me a good kick up the Ass at st Ives - great result for both of us and I’m sure you’ll do a sub 24. We all suffer with GI - i going to work hard this year and find a solution 👍👍
Hi Adam well done mate - brilliant effort been watching you for over a year! All the best Carlton, Tenby Aces.
Thanks for following my exploits - looking forward to 2022 and some good racing 💪😀🙃
Awesome! Well done
Thank you! Cheers!
You’re right Adam, training, nutrition and determination will get you to the finish line. I did the MudCrew RAT 63 miles a few years ago, and I can confirm that the continuos hills are relentless. Doing the Arc of Attrition under 24 hours is a massive achievement, well done again! 💪👍
i was watching the live-tracking for a bit and saw you running in the top5 after st.ives. i was pretty amazed! terrific racing sir! greetings from vienna.
Thanks - much appreciated- ran the last 22 miles in so well ⚡️ adrenaline kicks in too!
Top running and brilliant race execution. I was some way behind but on a Sub 30 target. Nailed 29:20 in the end. Had similar stomach issues that were helped by a medic at lands end. Bleak was a good description and dark. Thanks for the videos. Super helpful 👍🏻
Great result 40 mins under your target. Not sure about the stomach as I don’t usually suffer this bad but then it is a right scary race so perhaps the nerves gets the best of us + everything else - well done and glad you liked the vids! 👍👍
14 Peaks is a great motivational film! Well worth watching …. Congratulations on the sub 24 top effort 👍
Yup great movie - thanks for watching 👍
You are such a inspiration Adam! Honestly mate you absolutely blew that race away. You really put in all that hard work into the training and it paid off big time on the day. I am so honoured to call you a friend. Your tales from your races keep me motivated in my own training and if one day I can be half as good at running as you are I will be more than happy. Keep on killing it bud! 😎🤘🏻
Thanks Ben - we got a great 2022 ahead of us! Looking forward to get you to your running goals and have a laugh along the way - good to meet you too bud! ✌️
@@ultrarunneradam its gonna be a big year for GTR mate! 🦁⚡
Im here thanks to Ben, he doesn't stop talking about you :P. Top achievement mate well done. Also thanks for the 14 peaks recommendation!
@@jat2319 Oi Oi!!! Good to find you here Jat. You've made a good choice mate! 😎🤘🏻
Absolutely awesome Adam! I was gripped by the tracker as I followed you….
Thanks Chris - open tracker have it nailed at the moment - when I was in St Ives check point a ladfy ran in to check I hadn't fallen in the sea as my tracker went haywire - she seemed somewhat relieved 😬😂
You were amazing Adam i was following you on the tracker, sub 24 mate you must be very proud.
Very pleased with the result - thanks for following 🤩🤩
Super recap 👌 Your Arc journey and the race itself has got me absolutely PUMPED for SDW. Now, just gotta shake this dang injury! Keep inspiring mate 🙌
Yup SDW will be a good one for you - Hopefully I can help get you there - yeah the injury sucks but serves you right for running so fast 😀😂
@@ultrarunneradam Any tips and help would be awesome! 🤙
Big congratulations Adam. I done the 50 so definitely going back for the 100 next year 👌👌
Not sure 🤔 what I’m doing yet as thinking of having a winter off - well not race train - 100 💯 go for it - it will sell out quick as loads of hype this year ✌️
Love the channel and all the advice Adam, it was great to track you all the way last weekend and see you bring the race home. Fascinating to hear all about the ups and downs, if you get chance could you share any advice on foot care (apart from sock & shoe changes?) all the best and happy running & adventures to come
Thanks Jon - yes foot care - I have quite a few requests for this but my feet are very shy and now they look shocking - but sure Ill get something posted - Id like to do shorter videos inbetween these epics so Ill make a subject list and work through them - again thanks for all the support!
Well done Adam, a great achievement. Tracker addiction will soon be treatable on the NHS. After watching your vids of your other escapades, it appears you got the nutrition side sorted.
😂😂 Thanks for watching. Nutrition is something I haven’t got right yet. Not sure which way to go to be honest - looking into it as we speak.
Nice debrief…. Awesome run… 👏👏👏👏 I thought I was seeing mice running all over the place 🤪 turns out it was real 😃 I got my goal time of sub 30 😃 29:09 well pleased with that.. like you say “its a battle with yourself”…... I kept telling myself “if it’s not broke just keep going” …. Awesome event… bring on 1st March to sign up again for 2023😂 next MudCrew event for me the Southwest Traverse Extreme… keep up the good work 👍 Run on….
Awesome stuff!! yes I forgot to mention the mice or shrews - and the blacks slugs - Im having a winter off next year as was thinking about the spine challenger - Id like to crew my mate for the Arc - loved the event!!
I came because I saw you on Dan Runs channel. You got a new sub. I really enjoyed the filming of this video. This seems hard as balls. Congratulations on this awesome result
Thanks for the sub! Yes I know Dan as we are part of the GTR run crew - hes going well with his channel!
@@ultrarunneradam I think I was Dan's subscriber number 12. 😄
Nailed it!! Seen you a few times on the course on the Friday but I was running the 50 on Saturday, well done strong running!!!
Thanks for the support - it was a massive help on the day - nice to hear see humans when running on the dark for so long - How did you do in the 50?
@@ultrarunneradam I had a decent run just outside the time I wanted but I didn't have a crew so more than happy, few toe issues due to bad show choice but other than that all good. The next big one for me is UTS 50 now !!
@@johnjames9602 yes my toes suffered and a few blisters as my feet were soaked first half. Nice race choice - I’m doing the UTS 165 so a a good excuse to head to 🏴 for a few weekends - good luck with your training ✌️
Superb work Adam. Congratulations 👏🏻. Very inspiring. I’m debating my first 100 miler for next year (haven’t broken it to the wife yet though 🤫).
Cheers chris - press that button mate - with some good training you’ll crack it - see you around sometime 👍👍
Super well done and getting that black buckle, well very impressive. Love the video. Very helpful as was your other one about the course. For me i quit at the minack theatre. I was unsupported and that and lots of other things meant that another 50 miles would have been stupid. I also didn't know the route or Cornwall for that matter. Next year i think i'll go for the Arc50. Then i will have done the full course. Plus it will help seeing some of the parts in daylight and give me the full knowledge of the route. After that i will look at the full Arc100 again. Well that's my plan anyway. Thanks again with the videos and i look forward to your next runs.
Thanks - sorry to hear you didnt get there - arc 50 sounds like a good option - it is a tough course and support is very helpful. See if you can get a crew for the 100? Good luck with the training and thanks for following along 😀
@@ultrarunneradam I can't get support unfortunately (wife can't drive and i live too far away for friends to make the trip) but it's all good. I'll do it one day. Even if I finish within 1 min of cut off 🙂
Thanks for a great report. So interesting to find that someone who runs about twice as fast as I do still has the same problems.
Yup 👍 lead runner was puking last 20 miles I heard on a post race interview. It does go well sometimes though 😊 thanks for watching!
Great race report. Good to see front pack runners have similar issues to my 33 hour finish. Hope Tom supplied plenty of Fourpure for your hydration at the end 😉
Yup we all suffer. Listening to Mark Darbyshire interview he really suffered in the last leg too - Ah Tom - yes we had a few beers after but would you believe not Fourpure!
Great to get the inside perspective. I watched all the coverage over the weekend and got inspired to run 60k for my 60th birthday the other day. I think the Arc is beyond me unfortunately but an ultra would be good.
Really good to see what an impact these races have and how they inspire us all to achieve great things - I like the 60k at 60 idea !!!
Well done Adam, a phenomenal achievement and a great post race review too. Thanks for sharing. UTMB up next perhaps? The CCC seems like a life time ago no?
Thanks Neil - I looking at UTS165 in July as my next A race - going to head out to chamonix to watch it though as have a few runners I know entered. Also starting to work with Destination Unknown as their uk coach so gonna be a cracking 2022 - whats up for you next?
@@ultrarunneradam sounds like it is really taking off for you which is great to see. You’ve done the hard graft and now the results are dropping just right. I’m still road running around the vineyards of SW France 🍷. Yet to venture off road but I know I want to. Got the Malta marathon in 4 weeks time and I am down for the SDW50 in April but my mate who was helping me out with transport, digs, crew, etc has double booked himself with a lovely jaunt around the Atlas Mountains of Morocco so not sure if I’ll fly over now. Keep going it’s great stuff 👍💪🏃♂️
Amazing result Adam, 4th place on a really tough race! You got me thinking about your starting strategy of going out pushing the pace. From watching a lot of these tough 100 + milers, it looks quite common for the front field to build up a big lead and then taper back later on (which every other runner through the whole field naturally does as well), so you're making the most of fresh legs instead of shuffling along being very conservative. I often wonder if I should be more confident and go out with a little more intent. Obviously this can go wrong if you don't have the endurance tank there , but I am questioning if I just go out far to reserved.
Hi Luke - thanks 🙏 I did it as a100 and bonked last 10 miles but still got a good place and time. Had a go at CW50 for an 8 hr pace and failed miserably but undertrained. It has its merits but that why loads of elites drop out - they just explode. Good fun trying though - you may be surprised with yourself. Naturally front runners will drop in a 100 so yup think it’s a good strategy unless your racing me 😂😂
@@ultrarunneradam Thanks mate, I will take one for the team on a local 50k I have coming up early march and see how it plays out!
Good man 👍⚡️ - me and Luigi ran hard cw50 - blew up 26 miles - it was warm - we laughed afterwards but not during 🤪
Hi, what brand is the ‘ultra running sucks’ t shirt you have on.
I get them silk printed - gonna be my new merch brand - won’t be long - website coming soon 🤩🤩
Was 'Ben' the legendary Ben Parkes ?
No mate I think his mrs was 8 hrs behind 😂😂
did I miss your finishing time? Was it 23:59:59?
You are cruel 😂😂 23:28 - when I did the video I had to edit out this bit as I got my time wrong 😑- thanks for watching!
@@ultrarunneradam It's a great performance! Congratulations! Subscribed!
Great run, good vid ... one point though. It's pronounced "Mara - zion" not "Ma - razion".
Bloody tourists! Apologies for the mispronunciation 😬🙄
First 😂
Excellent - does that mean you want to run 100 miles??
@@ultrarunneradam if that’s my prize. I better delete the comment. Honestly running 100 miles is super human! You’re inspirational Adam. And running it in under 24hrs is 🤯
