First tutorial I watched involved dragging in a wet vac. So glad I found this one! 2 caps from laundry detergent to catch water, one pail to hold it, 15 minutes and I was done. I never knew this needed to be done. So after 2 years of use, I got out enough dog hair out of the filter to make a small puppy! :) Thank you so much!

Cleaned this a few times before and never realized the hose was there until I reread the owners manual. However I had trouble getting the cap off the end. Thank you showing that particular process and for making this process easier.
next time lube it with vaseline before reinstallation. Or, replace the plug with a BRASS 1/4" ball valve with a BRASS barb attachment (male or female barb, doesn't matter,) Simple assemble this and then push it onto the hose. Next time you just have to turn the valve open and out comes the water. Easy.
I've had this washer for about 2 years and never realized I should have been doing this. Got the SUDS error and found your video. There was an insert from a shower shoe stuck in there! No wonder it's been acting up. Lol. Great video, thank you for posting it! Washer runs like new now.

So glad I watched this. I've cleaned the filter on my machine several times before, but always had to mop up afterwards. I simply had not noticed the drain tube. Now I'll probably clean every 2 months, as recommended, rather than just once every now and then. Thanks for this useful information.
Thank you so much for this video. You helped us greatly. I was gifted my machine from my mom. She told me I needed to clean it out before using it. Great video. I've drained and cleaned my filter before but this time I'm having a problem. I cannot unscrew the filter-it's making a grinding noise like a child-proof pill bottle. I've tried everything I could think of, including pushing in or pulling out while turning the filter, clockwise and counterclockwise with no luck. Any ideas?

It looks so simple. I'm going to have to hire someone to do this because (1) the cap at the end of the hose won't remove no matter how much/hard I twist and/or pull. (2) The filter cover just spins when turned counter-clockwise. It makes a clicking noise. It doesn't come off.

A few minutes of research on how to fix it ao I dont have to wake up my dad, and I stumble across your video. Drained all the water, clean out the filter, and it seems to have worked. I put the washer on a spin cycle with nothing inside, and its more than half ways done. 🎉🎉🎉 So incredibly grateful right now that I dont have to piss off my dad tonight. I'll wait until morning after he has had his coffee lol
I had a Siemens for 15 years that had a backwash so no need to clear filter. It stopped working and I discovered an eyeglass arm, $1.15 in change, bread ties.. etc! I don't have issues with mildew but I think it is because I do not use liquid fabric softener?
i used 20ml of liquid detergent for front load for regular load in whirlpool front load.after wash is finished when i open pump cover i see some white soapy water.is it normal to see some white detergent remaining
The moment I got the filter unscrewed I said aloud “That guy deserves ALL the likes, comments and subscribes !” Thanks for your channel, you found a new subscriber!
Thank you so much, I've recently brought a new samsung washing machine and all the years I've known of Samsung's, I've never known how to clean the filter to it until now. Helped sooo much. Definitely needed a clean! 💪🏽👌🏽
Did you have any luck? If not I would try to gently pry the filter out with a screwdriver but do your best not to gouge the filter housing or the gasket in the cap/cover.

That’s great, glad you found the video helpful! Good luck with your new washer and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Thanks, It worked just like you said! One word of warning go to the bathroom before as the trickling sound of the water made me have to take a break in the middle of this little 5 minute job :-)
Thank you so much for this helpful video. When I detached the hose to clean it I couldn't see how to reconnect it and kept trying to fit the white part into the rectangular hole but of course that didn't work. Then after watching your video could see that it just needed to be placed back onto the clip.
I had trouble getting the cap off the end of the tube. Turning it counterclockwise does help remove it, but I found that getting it off is as much a matter of pulling and rocking it as of turning it. It isn't really threaded. My filter was a little different from the one shown, in that it has a filter cover with a spring on it. To get the filter out to clean it, I had to press in, and then turn counterclockwise. Turning it without pressing it in first just made a rattle and didn't get anywhere. It's like getting the cap off a medicine bottle.
I have owned my Samsung for several years and when I tried to clean the filter, of course I didn't know about the little hose and had water gush out everywhere. To make matters worse, I didn't even have anything in the filter to clean out! Does that mean that gunk is somewhere else instead of the filter? I wish I had found your video sooner. Thank you for teaching me something.
@@5MinuteFixit The filter was perfectly clean like brand new. Years later when my granddaughter asked me to check it again (because she is learning to do the laundry. Yay!!), I, of course, had water gushing everywhere but I was prepared with towels and there was only one tiny speck of lint in the filter. Also, the rubber gasket at the bottom of the door was very clean with just a few hairs caught in it. I'm stumped as to where the grunge is hiding.
I was troubleshooting clogs for an hour. I vacuumed out the rear drain with a shop vac and still would not drain. Thank you so much! You just saved me $$$ from replacing a machine that I fixed in several minutes after I saw your video.

Just got done draining and cleaning the filter. That water can sure be funky! Oh I found a dime in the filter too LOL. Thanks a bunch and yes I gave you a thumbs up!
Thanks for such a simple video. My filter cap is different though. I don't know how to remove it. Can you please tell me if you know how to get this filter cap off? I will try to send a picture. It plastic but it looks childproof. Like it has latches.
The child resistant filter caps need to be pushed in and simultaneously turned much like a child resistant medicine bottle. Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
I have a Samsung front loader as well, different model but same thing pretty much, my drum after use has some residual water left in it but it’s not terrible but is there something I can do to fix it? It could very well be my drain that the washers hose connects to but I’m not sure
It did help me - now i feel comfortable doing it. Will do it tonight or tomorrow) I am afraid to see what it looks like I’ve had them a year and not done it
exactly what i needed. There must be a little groove that must be lined up in order to turn the filter back in to place. Once i "found" it, it turned back in fine.

This video is great info. Unfortunately, when I bought my home, the machine came with it. I had no manual and no idea that there was a filter to be cleaned and now I can't get the filter to unscrew.
Some of the filters are child resistant and need to be pushed in before turning...hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you.

I checked mine after a year and there was nothing in there. But, we only use baking soda for detergent, i think that has something to do with it, theres no buildup at all.
Wow, I never knew you had to clean the filter every 2 months. 😳 We moved into our house about 7 months ago. I noticed a sticker that said to clean every 2 months, so here I am on RUclips hoping and praying I'd find info on how to clean the filter because I had water dripping out when I started unscrewing it. 😑 I'm so glad I found your channel! This was SO helpful! Now I'm off to see how yucky the filter looks. 🤢
That’s great! I’m glad you found the video helpful and were able to clean the filter without a huge watery mess! Thanks for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Looked up how to properly clean my machine as it is needing a good cleaning after having it for 3 years and did not know about this filter... A solid ring of cloths and cloths tags around the filter and mold. Only did the self cleaning+ thing when it asked for it thinking that was enough but it wasn't.
Great instructions but at the end you say to insert the filter by screwing in "counter" clockwise. Shouldn't it be clockwise the opposite of removing the filter?
Yes I did by accident, that’s why I wrote “*clockwise*” on the video to clear up any confusion. Thank you for watching! I’m glad you found the video useful!
I found a metal gray tube inside of mine.. it looks almost like a wire connector with each end having a larger diameter.. I'm guessing it connected some tubes but I have no idea.
The was excellent as visual confirmation that I was doing it right. My biggest issue was that my filter has a child-proof cap, which proved almost adult-proof. Had to use vise grip pliers to be able to both push it in and turn it counter clockwise at the same time.
Thank you. Had no idea about using the tube to drain. 1st go was emergency due to filter clog, couldn't figure out why water was pouring out. Realized it was in the middle of a cycle. . 2nd was less mess, but still a lot of water. 3rd time will be the charm thanks to this video.
I only had my washer for maybe two months and I am cleaning it right now but I am on my fourth bowl of water coming out. Is that normal? And it’s a whole lot of water. The only reason why I am cleaning it is because my door is locked on the washer and Samsung is telling me to clean the filter to see if that helps unlock the door. But that’s just seems like an insane amount of water coming out. And it’s still coming out as we speak LOL
Is it possible that you have a child resistant filter like some others have commented here? If so try pushing and turning simultaneously. If that’s not the case I would try to spin it with a pair of pliers…but be extremely careful not to crack or break it. Thank you for watching!
i'm not sure where else to ask, but i see you're very nicely still replying to comments so might as well try! When I unscrew the filter it's not coming out, I don't want to pull too hard in case something breaks but do you think something is stuck in there that's preventing the filter to come out? Should I really just pull hard or ..?
Brigita first of all thanks for watching! Some of these washing machines have a “child resistant” filter. Mine does not fortunately. Hopefully someone in the comments can let us know whether you push and turn or pull and turn to get the filter out. I definitely wouldn’t force it and risk breaking anything. I realize this doesn’t fully answer your question but hopefully someone here can. Thanks again!
I had the same problem, but i fixed this. here is why and how: why; becouse it was alot of dirty in the filter so it was stucked and it doesn'd came out, how i fixed it; turned over the machine then removed the down cover, then unscrew 3 screws from the pump that conected to the filter , then slowley knocked at the filter from inside until it came out, hope this helpful

Thanks so @ much five minute fix I have question. when I opened my filter as I tried to clean it 2 things pop put they were not fixed somewhere they were just there. One was a magnated screw driver's top part .the one you can take out to Chang the size. Other thing look like a USB . It also have a logo of HP. I am so stressed I broke something. But thank God wher is working fine. Can you tell me why those things were there in the filter?
Informative video for a ridiculously engineered filtering system. I am unable to get the cap off the hose or the cap off the filter. And nowhere in the buying process was I warned about this hassle.
Jan Deelstra to get the cap off the hose it doesn’t necessarily need to be twisted to get it off like I do in the video. To get the cap off it might help if you use a small set of pliers and gently twist it off. This filter system could have been designed a little better.
@@5MinuteFixit I actually decided to forego the hose emptying and just drained and cleaned the filter. It was messy, but I was ready for it with thick towels in place. Thanks for your comment!
For my washer filter there is a certain angle you have to look for so the filter fits in and doesn’t leak when washing but I don’t know how to fit it in the correct angle (sorry if my wording is bad)

The moment I got the filter unscrewed I said aloud “That guy deserves ALL the likes, comments and subscribes !”

Thank you so much, I've recently brought a new samsung washing machine and all the years I've known of Samsung's, I've never known how to clean the filter to it until now. Helped sooo much. Definitely needed a clean! 💪🏽👌🏽
I’m glad the video was helpful! Thank you for watching and please consider giving it a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video. I’ve used it before but this time my filter is stuck and the handle fell off. Any suggestions on how to get it out???
Did you have any luck? If not I would try to gently pry the filter out with a screwdriver but do your best not to gouge the filter housing or the gasket in the cap/cover.
This saved me a headache in calling the repairman. The two guys in the house had no clue to fix it, so I did it myself.
This is great, Im glad it was helpful and you were able to fix it yourself! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven't already, thank you!
I just ordered my washer I'm waiting for it to be delivered so I've been looking up how to keep it maintained this was very helpful. Thank you.
You couldn't just hold it until you were done? 🤦♀️

Thank you straight to the point just one tip if it throws errors due to drainage filter there will be a few gallons of watter
Thank you for watching and for the tip!
Thank you so much for this helpful video. When I detached the hose to clean it I couldn't see how to reconnect it and kept trying to fit the white part into the rectangular hole but of course that didn't work. Then after watching your video could see that it just needed to be placed back onto the clip.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad it was helpful and you found an answer to your question!
Like it, simple quick instruction and easy to follow. thanks
Just cleaned my filter on my 2006 Samsung for the first time. Lets just say it was about time :D
Oh wow…
I have owned my Samsung for several years and when I tried to clean the filter, of course I didn't know about the little hose and had water gush out everywhere. To make matters worse, I didn't even have anything in the filter to clean out! Does that mean that gunk is somewhere else instead of the filter? I wish I had found your video sooner. Thank you for teaching me something.
The filter itself usually collects a sludge like substance that seems to be soap residue. Did yours have any of this on it? Thank you for watching!
Never knew I had to clean the filter.... I know what I'm doing this weekend!
Thank you for watching! Let us know how it goes!
I was troubleshooting clogs for an hour. I vacuumed out the rear drain with a shop vac and still would not drain. Thank you so much! You just saved me $$$ from replacing a machine that I fixed in several minutes after I saw your video.

Hi I have the same washer sometime it works and sometimes it doesn’t even start. What is the problem with it
Just got done draining and cleaning the filter.
Thank you!
How can I run a self-wash cycle in my washing machine if there's no hot water? Does it damage the washing machine to run the cycle with cold water?
I have a Samsung front loader as well, different model but same thing pretty much, my drum after use has some residual water left in it but it’s not terrible but is there something I can do to fix it? It could very well be my drain that the washers hose connects to but I’m not sure
Yes it could be the drain or the drain pump. Cleaning the filter may help as well. Thank you for watching!

Mary C. Farrington that’s ok as long as you do it every couple months or so it should keep any musky smell at bay!
Thank you so much we had lost our manual and you were the first video I pulled up and you explained it perfectly I appreciate you

exactly what i needed. There must be a little groove that must be lined up in order to turn the filter back in to place. Once i "found" it, it turned back in fine.

Hi! I’m Ms. Cream. Thank you for this “help the lady fix her Samsung washer.@ 2:15 in the morning. “ For 2 days my washer sat with clothes soak and wet, while I walked around like chicken with her head in her hand. Then came you, by way of my daughter. She did the research , and I reaped the benefits of her smart move. The instructions were perfect, right down to the last detail. Now this lady can rest. Peace and blessings. My Samsung digital, is still quiet as a mouse.

I can’t get the cap off. It’s just clicking as I turn. Do you have any suggestions?
This video is great info. Unfortunately, when I bought my home, the machine came with it. I had no manual and no idea that there was a filter to be cleaned and now I can't get the filter to unscrew.
Some of the filters are child resistant and need to be pushed in before turning...hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you.

Will try this, my new machine is making error codes without any display codes..hope this is it ☺️
Did your error codes go away?
I checked mine after a year and there was nothing in there. But, we only use baking soda for detergent, i think that has something to do with it, theres no buildup at all.
Wow, I never knew you had to clean the filter every 2 months. 😳 We moved into our house about 7 months ago. I noticed a sticker that said to clean every 2 months, so here I am on RUclips hoping and praying I'd find info on how to clean the filter because I had water dripping out when I started unscrewing it. 😑 I'm so glad I found your channel! This was SO helpful! Now I'm off to see how yucky the filter looks. 🤢

Looked up how to properly clean my machine as it is needing a good cleaning after having it for 3 years and did not know about this filter... A solid ring of cloths and cloths tags around the filter and mold. Only did the self cleaning+ thing when it asked for it thinking that was enough but it wasn't.
Thanks man. Really helpful video. Straight to the point and informative.

Do you recommend unplugging the washing machine before cleaning out the filter?
I don’t think that’s necessary, so long as you don’t accidentally turn it on while you are cleaning the filter. Thank you for watching!
Never knew it had a filter... Mine was so clogged.
Thank you so much for your time and help.
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it helpful, please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Yes I should have mentioned this type of filter cap as it seems many people haven this type. Thank you for watching, I’m glad it was useful!
Thank you. Had no idea about using the tube to drain. 1st go was emergency due to filter clog, couldn't figure out why water was pouring out. Realized it was in the middle of a cycle. . 2nd was less mess, but still a lot of water. 3rd time will be the charm thanks to this video.
Thank you for watching, I’m glad it was helpful! Please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Taylor Clark I would turn off the water to the washer and just keep draining it. Let us know how it goes!
Thanks, making a new purchase and getting as much information as possible......
s stwo thank you for watching!
Just did it , worked great. Washer had the safety cap on it so had to push in while turning. Thanks for the video
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it helpful!
How do you get the filler out I turn it but must be stuck what can I spray on it to pull it out. Thanks
Is it possible that you have a child resistant filter like some others have commented here? If so try pushing and turning simultaneously. If that’s not the case I would try to spin it with a pair of pliers…but be extremely careful not to crack or break it. Thank you for watching!
Many thanks for making things clear & explaining the process simply.

Thank you I had no idea what the hose was for and kept getting my floor wet!!!
Johnson glad it helped out! Thank you for watching!
But what if the water get in the machine mistakenly?
i'm not sure where else to ask, but i see you're very nicely still replying to comments so might as well try!

Can it be debris from the washer clothes ?

I ended up doing the same thing, just emptying the water onto towels and into a bottle. Such silliness for standard maintenance.
For my washer filter there is a certain angle you have to look for so the filter fits in and doesn’t leak when washing but I don’t know how to fit it in the correct angle (sorry if my wording is bad)
