CIA, KGB and Mossad teach similar various techniques to learn, speak, read and write a foreign language rapidly. You have learnt one secret. One technical question: how do you capture what hindi phrases you don't understand or have never heard before during day ? let alone the issue of how to study them. I think that's the main issues for a foreigner to learn the local language, you can't even capture what you don't know. Actually the urdu and Hindi are sister languages, and it had developed in undivided India, The great munshi Premchand first learned Urdu and then hindi, they are so interconnected that it's almost difficult to segregate, the script differs as hindi has devnagari and urdu from arabic languages
Bookish Hindi isn't popular but most of us can understand that. Bookish Hindi contains a lot of Sanskrit words. If you are well in bookish hindi or Sanskrit it helps you to understand other Indian language. As I am Bengali and I have learnt Marathi , I would say that if you know bookish Hindi or Sanskrit ,you are half way in learning Marathi!
