      Hannah Harkaway A lot of physical work and classroom. Firefighting is a lot of science.. chemistry physics etc.. I have nothing against women being in the fire service but if your 115 pound self cannot drag my 230 pound ass out of a building if I need it then you don't need to be there.

    Im an Firefighter, EMT F/F for 33 years , EMT 23 , I have 5 bad disks , bad knees and a bad shoulder , the shoulder is all mine , the knees and disks are due to working with females on the job . I have a lot of respect for woman that want to work , but fire dept , is a hard job and if you can't pull your side your partner pulls there's and your , men are just stronger , my last partner was just a little over 4' tall maybe so she couldn't put patent's in back of squad's I loaded every call alone unless we had a few first responders. and now im waiting for surgery and she is not a firefighter/paramedic any longer , she quite. and I might be out of work , due to the fact , she couldn't do her side of the job.

    • @LGfosheezy
      @LGfosheezy 9 лет назад +40

      wolfman7075 That is your departments fault for hiring a female not physically capable. I know many female firefighters in great shape, and in actual better shape and just as strong if not stronger than many of the men at their station. I am in the process of doing fire academy now and I am a female shaking my head at many of the other male and female candidates because of their lack of strength and overall physical ability. Don't punish all women and say we can't handle the job just because you had some 4' ft tall weakling of a woman as your partner. I have been able to keep up with men on a physical level my whole life, and know many other women that have as well. Women like in this video, tick me off just as much as they do you.

    When people are bashing women they need to keep in mind that this woman is not a firefighter, does not want to be a firefighter, and has never trained to be a firefighter. She is a model doing a TV show. Most of you men wouldn't do well at this type of training without preparing for it.

    for my training initiation we had to go fully kitted through a course in complete blackness - crawled through tunnels that were literally oil barrels with the ends cut off with so little room that i pulled myself through using only my fingertips and toes, carried a 165lb dummy for 60 metres and had to run 25m hoses out until i threw up.

    I am a career fireman and they definitely went easy on her. Its all good though. For the record though, I know some pretty tough chicks that are on some fire departments. They didn't put an air pack on her on air. They let her hold on to the railings during the stairclimb cpat but its still all good though. I'm pretty sure that hoseline was not charged with much water. Any firefighter knows that they couldnt go full on with her. Like I said in the defense of the women, I know some firewomen I would go interior with and be comfortable.

Wake her up at 330am, make her do all that 3 times, then go switch out bottles and get back at it because your relief wont be here for another 20 min. I personally know of some females that would run circles around some men in the fire dept. However, it would take a special kind of woman for me to trust her with my life when things go bad.

    For all who say girls can't do it, I know many who can do it better than you, and better than me. The fire industry has girls, let's get fucking used to it. If they can do the job, let them. I'm a firefighter and I agree with this video except for the live burn. There are too many things to go wrong in a fire and she should have not been brought in the interior, set up an exterior fire but interior is often high risk and takes way more training. I understand it's controlled but that can fail. You should at least have a training school for 40-50 before even thinking about starting interior. Maybe I'm wrong, I guess it wasn't that bad. 2 in 2 out. I don't care if it's a guy or girl by my side. If we make it out, that's what I care about.

    I physically carried my 100 lb contorted mother in and out of our home after she had a stroke and i confess i could not begin to pass the entrance testing for FDNY... I hauled 50 lb bags of feed for my sheep n chickens and i was a bit winded. After bagging a deer in the Catskill Mts, field dressing it... i dragged it down the mountain to the house... let me tell you, it is work... I also expect any female to do the exact same test the males have to. Seeing what FF,s have to do just makes me more highly respect them. I have FDNY & NYPD relatives and my great uncle was a tiller man around 1937 ... his sons, grandsons and great grandsons are FDNY & NYPD. In NYC i worked as a nurse but we used a Hoyer lift... or i would be dead... God bless FDNY & NYPD

    Okay I just discovered something. Someone high up told us about wearing the gear while being a civilian is a bit disrespectful and is not meant for playing dress up as seen here. Regular people going through the recruiting process in the FDNY aren't given this opportunity to "try before you buy" so I'd say this video segment is disrespectful. I still stand by my previous comment about you not doing the real thing and they went beyond watering it down so you didn't prove you can handle shit.

      Santa Claus yes some women are strong compared to other women but they still don't have the physical capability of men, for example a woman who is 140lbs is gonna have a lot harder time dragging a 250lb man out of a burning building and she's really gonna have trouble carrying him down a ladder or up stairs, compared to a 200lb man.

    Goes to show girls can do anything and it's beyond high fucking time men recognise that. We need to have more women in these male-dominated professions as quite frankly they could really use it. And at 5:07, he said "Lookin' good!" Really? No, really? Would he say that to a male?

    • @redninja302
      @redninja302 10 лет назад +28

      Except for the fact that she didn't do the entire test. "Male dominated professions" are only male dominated because MOST women wouldn't want to work or cannot handle the training in Male professionalized jobs. Look at that big scandal where the army refused a woman because she was not able to complete her basic training. It was justified, yet, alot of women seemed to disagree and gave the notion that women should undergo different training (which isn't equal at all). I do agree with you that there should be more women in these jobs. Also, he wasn't complementing her on her looks. He meant "lookin' good!" as a way of saying that her equipment is all checked out and fitting. In all honesty, he would probably say that to a male also. Stop being repulsively idiotic.

      Hey, you want more women in these professions??? Then how about you get off your fat ass and apply then??? If you can pass the same tests men go through, you deserve a place! If not, go and work in an office.
      Feminists are the same all around. Want more women in politics? Apply for it then! If every woman says "we need more women in politics" but does nothing to actually join such a career, it's no small wonder barely any women are going into those fields!

    Oddly the hardest part of joining the Fire Department was a part of the physical that the Dr. gives you before they even send you to training. That device that checks your lungs. It's almost like a breathalyzer test but the thing you blow into is 1 inch around and you have to blow into it for I believe 8 seconds...it was so long ago I forget how long. I passed it the first time too but the Dr. wanted to see if I could do better the second time (atleast that's what he told me) I passed again and I did do better. My lungs hurt for the next like 4-5 days though. Everything else I was fine with. That darn lung capacity machine got me though. Anyone else have trouble with that?

  • @sweeety969

    How come in every video she does somebody has to comment they made it easier for her and she wouldn't hack the real version and how they're like head firefighter/marine/whatever and they know this shit. No one expected her to do a full on several week/month/year long training course to begin with, we all know she's doing a condensed version and they leave some things out. It's a 7 minute video. You can't expect secret spy training and shit. Why do you all feel so threatened by a woman? Cause she's pretty? And if she starts showing hidden depths and strengths she becomes a multi-faceted character and not just an object of lust to you? And then once you think of one pretty woman as a person then you'll have to think of all pretty women as people and you'll have to respect them and wont be able to just objectify them like you used to? Is that it? Probably not, since it's not like you respect women you deem unattractive. Is it just ingrained misogyny? I think it's to do with emasculation. Like you're threatened that if women are acknowledged for their strength you'll be displaced or have to work to prove yourself as equal or something like that. Which is why you're so desperate to disparage women.

    • @sweeety969
      @sweeety969 7 лет назад +1

      lol don't bother replying, I'm not gonna see this and go on some big argument with anybody. It's just an observation. And by trying to argue against my claims you're only proving that you feel threatened and I am right. But I'm not gonna see this, so there's no point anyway. You'll only be talking to yourself. Or shouting into the abyss. I bet that makes you feel powerless.

    • @ianis3183

      nah fam, I just wanna point something out, men don't get intimidated by women, rarely that happens, if me & my family are in a building that's on fire I'd be more comfortable if men would come to save us than women, you wanna know why? because men are usually stronger than women, simple. Even if three fire fighters enter that building and 1 of them is a woman if that woman barely passed the test then that woman could cost human lives, what's more important to you? a life or respect, misogyny or some other bullshit that isn't relevant in a death or life situation? think again, it could be you & your family in that building and I am 100% you would want men to save your family because men will have a higher chance of saving your ass when the shit hits the fan, men might not need help to carry your heavy ass but women might do and that will cost time which is limited in a situation like that, I want you to understand this, anything related to feelings doesn't matter in a life or death situation, those things are irrelevant. I am not talking about women who passed the test and are qualified (I need to point that out since idiots will not get it). I am talking about women who barely pass the test and need the standards lowered in order to pass it.

    In the training tower the smoke is usually vegetable oil based or clean non-toxic water based smoke, which according to most is harmless to the lungs/inhalation smoke & is perfectly safe to breathe. As for me I would prefer to wear SCBA when possible even in these environments, but to be honest if I could wear one 24/7 under our current breathing conditions I would. As for her nomex/hood...she probably put it on after the fact over turnouts & figured she would be fine for this

    The idea isn't to get 100% equality in representation, like a 50/50 split of fireman-firewoman. 'True equality' means that a woman of equal physical fitness to a given man also has an equal chance of doing a physical job, like firefighter or soldier. If she can do 50 pushups, it should qualify her just as well as a man doing 50 pushups.
    This doesn't mean we feminists expect all women to be able to do as many pushups as men.

    If anyone thinks a camp fire is like a wild fire or structure fire they are severely mistaken. When you try to light a camp fire it can be hard work. A wild fire however is big enough that its massive amount of radiant heat will catch about anything near it on fire. A structure fire is the same thing. It's big and a 2x4 will burn so fast a small patio will spout flames 20+ feet high.

    As a professional firefighter and former instructor, I can tell you the female recruits were advanced because of lowered standards because of affirmative action. Women are at a disadvantage because of upper body stregnth. If my family needed to be saved an all male fightfighter crew over an all female crew I'll take the males.. As a instructor I saw standards lowered to allow females a chance to qualify for the job. I'll take a 50yr. old male ff to be my back up any day over a 50 Y/O female.

    Okay, let me ask you a question. You're stuck on the fifth floor of a violently burning building. You're leaning out the window gasping for air. Excruciating death is only a few feet away. Below are two people coming to rescue you. One is a big, burly, well-trained, fully-equipped New York FIREMAN. Yes, I said fireman! The other is a cute little 112 pound chicklet. You get to choose. Which one will it be?
