Oh my goodness! My gear piece broke this morning and doesn't engage with the gear. I think I tipped it and stripped it. The gear spins but doesn't connect. I emailed vitamix for help. My machine is 10 years old. No warranty.
I tried to pull the gear piece off but I think I'll need an alien wrench.

My kids did the same thing your wife did, used the plunger without the lid on and caught the blade, now when I put the plunger in the dishwasher it comes out with water in it. We will grab the part off Amazon and be back in business soon, lots of smoothies in this house with 3 teenage boys!

So helpful; thank you. And I think that’s what happened with me; I accidentally used the wrong length tamper on my smaller Vitamix container 🤦🏻♀️ and that probably cracked the gear.

I'm pretty sure you're suppose to put that gear drive by lining up the vitamix name with the opening in the top of the lid where the allen key fits in. Once you do so, you then tighten it with said allen key, but I'm sure you probably already know what I'm talking about by now. Just trying to help, I'm no expert or anything. I just returned mine and now I have to buy another, so at least you fixed your yourself.
I can’t seem to pop off that little gear drive that you so effortlessly did at the start of the video. Any ideas how to remove that?
There is a tiny Allen head set screw if you look at the arrow that’s on the spindle and line it up up with the slot on the side and then loosen the screw and remove gear spindle.

The correct sized tamper cannot go into the blades. There is a shorter one that comes with this container. The taller container has a taller tamper.

Mine just seems to miss the grooves. I’ve not used it enough or hard enough for anything to have broken.
An at home smoothie is more than a buck. I would say $ 2.50 to $ 3.00 which is a whole lot cheaper than the bar's anywhere from $ 8.00 to
$ 12.00 even $ 14.00
Thank you for the info. My knob to the right to start the macjine don't wirk. The pulse works. The machine makes a horrible noise and stops working, and the bottom of the blender becomes loose. Tighten the bottom, but on knob don't work. Any help would be appreciated. Much blessings

Mine doesn't seem to lift off like yours in order to check it.
You probably have to unscrew the little screw on the old drive socket before lifting it up.
is should be screwed down, You use the allen wrench to loosen it and tighten the new one.

My usually is what we call a Good Morning Smoothie. It has spinach, mango and bandanna with a little bit of water.
I bought a Vitamix from Costco. It sounds like that every time I try to use it. It only worked effortlessly the first time. I will look and see if that's the problem before I return it. My cheaper blender works better.
Did anyone accidentally remove the rubber/plastic gasket on their 5200?? I don’t know where it goes. The new drive socket doesn’t fit b/c it not in the right spot. I’m going nuts.
is this compatible with older versions of the vitamix as well? this is exactly what happened to me!
As long as it is the TNC, or 5000 series models. 3600, or 4000 models don't crossover.
