Awesome movie
1: It's 100% Doc's movie, 2: the 3 guys that are always at the table, those 3 actors are famous for basically playing those same exact parts, in tons of westerns. The more you know, right? lol

The band during the town festival was played by ZZ Top, a popular rock band of the time. A couple of band members were known for having really long beards, so they fit right into this setting pretty well.

2 bits of trivia
There was a deleted scene where Buford shoots Marshall Strickland, who dies telling his son "remember, discipline", but the producers thought it was too dark. That's why the deputy is the one that arrests him at the end.
The actors playing Needles' gang are actually composed of one member from each of the three Tannen gangs. The guy riding shotgun was in Buford's gang. The guy in the back in yellow was in Griff's gang (the one who made the chicken sound effects). The other guy in the back was in Biff's gang (the one who made fun of Marty's jacket).
Yeah it was extremely dark, I didn't like the scene at all, glad they took it out, check out the deleted scene from BTF2 where Martie's brother becomes a drunk, it's equally bad 😂

There's a lot to learn behind the scenes with these movies. Michael was also filming family ties at the same time.
Just gonna say this about Tom Holland, he said in a interview that he would never do a Back to the Future Reboot because, he said it is one of the only perfect films. Also the creators (Bob Gale & Robert Zemeckis) said that no more sequels or reboots would happen for as long as they live.
To clear things with Jennifer, the creators didn't know they would make sequels to the movie in the first place. The end if the first movie was just one more joke to end the film on. In interviews Bob & Rob said if they knew they would make two more movies, Jennifer wouldn't have come back at the end, because they didn't know how to use her character.
Sure there's not much point to her character, but what would be the point of not having her? I don't see any dire need to abolish her from the movie, lol.

I still think the first movie is my favorite and the most perfectly made of the three, but you could not ask for a better or more heartwarming ending to the whole story than we see here. I love this trilogy as a whole!

Speaking of Jennifer. The director never intended to make the sequels. The ending of part 1 was meant to be a joke so once they decided to make the sequels the director was upset he put Jennifer in the car & has said if he known he wouldn't have done it
....and I don't see how she thinks she wasn't necessary. Sure, she wasn't in it a lot, but that would change the story quite a bit.
I like when Doc blew back into 1985 with the train.. Marty and Jennifer both got the guitar throw you back stunt 😂..
Another fun fact: Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale never intended on making a BTTF sequel. The ending was just for fun and for the audience to imagine Doc and Marty would continue their adventures. When BTTF became a hit, the studio insisted on a sequel. That's the reason Jennifer didn't do too much. They couldn't figure out what to do with her character for the sequels.
There were two different trains. One was a passenger, one was freight.

Copernicus was a 15th century astronomer and mathamatation (I know, spelling) who observed the rotation of the planets and some of their moons. He determined the planets revolved around the sun when everyone believed the earth was the center point. Galileo expanded on Copernicus' discoveries. Doc, being a scientist, named his dog Copernicus after him
A lot of the characters in this movie were played by actors that have been in Clint Eastwood movies and other Western movies. The band playing at the dance are ZZTop.They wrote and performed the ending song.

This isn't Mary Steenburgen's(Clara) first time being in a time travel movie. She was in a time travel movie in 1979 called, _"Time After Time"._
Little fun fact. In the drive-in scene when Marty puts on his ridiculous costume and mentions Clint Eastwood, he's standing next to the movie posters for "Revenge of the Creature" and "Tarantula" - Clint Eastwood's first movies which both came out in 1955.

It’s probably been said, but if Jennifer never wrote her phone number on the back of the Save the Clock Tower flyer, then Marty would still be stuck in 1955.
I agree that her character could have done more in the trilogy but she did serve an important purpose.
The actor who played the Colt salesman, Burton Gilliam, also played Lyle in "Blazing Saddles". :)
Several actors in the saloon are actual old time western movie character actors! I recognize their faces and voices.
Not only that, but they were mostly playing the same parts they had previously played in western movies and shows. The bartender, for example, had played bartenders in two western shows before BTTF 3. One former western actor the producers had hoped to cast was sadly unable to play the role they designed with him in mind. Ronald Reagan was supposed to play the role of the mayor of Hill Valley in 1885, but his Alzheimer's Disease had already reached the point he was unable to play even that small role.
Cool how smitten Clara is looking for the Doc and the DeLorean has to be covered up in a hurry. This parallels the scene in BTF1 where Marty's smitten mom interrupts things while looking for Marty and the car has to be hidden the same way. Things are reversed now since one fem is looking for Doc and the other was looking for Marty. "Repeat" scenes occur frequently in the series.
Its great how many references each film has to the others.... in part 2 biff towers has a video playing of the tanner history and shows pictures of mad dog, who we dont see till part 3.
And the bullet proof vest idea was part of the clint eastwood film that biff was watching in the hot tub of part 2.

It is a very good trilogy. I understand that the first actress of the 1 did not continue to take care of her mother, that's why in the other 2 films they changed to Jennifer.
I love your reactions to these movies. You are one of the rare to pay attention to details and shout out all foreshadowing details like the accident they mention in second movie. Or the Clint Eastwood movie Biff was watching with the bulletproof vest, or the Eastwood Ravine.
The first is my favorite because it's just so classic, but this is the most fun to watch. It's so darn fun and funny and exciting from start to finish, and you nailed several of the reasons why. The trilogy as a whole is the best trilogy out there, IMHO, or at least one of the most fun! Great reaction, as usual! :)
Here's a fun fact to make your head spin: At one point in time, there were FOUR DeLorean time machines in 1955. There was the one that Marty took back in the first film. There was the one that old Biff took back from the future in order to give himself the sports almanac. There was the one that Marty and Doc took back in order to stop Biff. And there's the one hidden in the mine.
24:45 - Something that never dawned on me before: If you're trying to get the most speed out of the locomotive, you want it pulling as little weight as possible, which is why they uncouple the cars. However, Doc is using his custom made logs in the firebox, so what do they need the tender for? If they're not using the wood from it, it's just extra weight. They should have uncoupled that as well.
20 years before making this film, the actress who played Clara (Mary Steenburgen ) was in another time travel movie "Time After Time". She co-starred with Malcolm McDowell who became her first Husband.
10 years, not 20. The Malcolm McDowell version was released in 1979. (The Rod Taylor version was 1960.) 🕙

Tom Wilson was brilliant how he played all these different versions of Biff
Tom Wilson, the actor who played Biff and the other various members of the Tannen family, would agree with you that this was the best version of the character. In an interview, he said that he enjoyed the role of Mad Dog (or as I like to call him, "Buffalo Biff") the most, as he got to learn to ride a horse and throw a lasso at an expert level, something he really had fun with.
Also, Tom Wilson based his performance of Mad Dog Tannen on Lee Marvin playing Liberty Valence in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".

I was crushing on Clara, I wanted her to have more screen time. The bonus is they made a Saturday cartoon with Doc, Clara, and the two boys in the time traveling train.
"We'll stop it here, uncouple the cars from the tender, throw the switchtrack, and hijack...*pauses* … "BORROW" the locomotive..."
heheh, gets me everytime in that scene, whether reactors include it or not...
Marty should have followed the letter and let Doc live out his life. We all die somehow.
But add in your comment on Part 2 that Doc should have intervened to stop Marty's racing accident, and we see that Part 1 could have been extended ten minutes, with Doc coming back as shown, but warning Marty of the accident, rather than saving Marty's kids. Then he'd hang around to keep Marty from giving in to the egging, and BOOM! The BTTF trilogy story compact, concluded, and without a crazy flying train.
The Marshall is the principals grandpa. This is 1885, 100 years before 1985. So his dad is the little boy beside the Marshall.
The band at the town festival is actually ZZTop, and that is one of their songs that they were playing a version of.
It really was the best one. I think it’s because it tied the story together so well and not just the obvious story arch but all the tiny recurring themes as well. By the end of this film a concrete idea of how this universe works is understood.

the only reason Jennifer was in the time machine was because they had no intention of making any sequels. The ending of the first movie was just a joke ending so to speak. When it became so popular they decided to make the trilogy and had to figure out a way to incorporate Jennifer into the plot. That's why she had so little time in the films.
Those folks talking in the bar about running, are voice actors. One of them voiced the old dog in fox and the hound. An the sheriff in the cartoon Robin hood. (If I recall it was the sheriff)
At the time, many felt that Westerns were outdated and so it was the wrong direction to take the story. Everyone was pleasantly surprised when they saw how well the film was made.
The first movie will always be my favorite, and is the best one in terms of story, execution, acting, directing... all of it. As for the sequels, I have to say that the third one is growing on me. While I don't like that they pretty much stay in one place in a TIME TRAVEL movie, I have become more fond of it. And Tom Wilson who plays all the Tannens KILLS IT in this movie. As you mentioned, this is arguably his most entertaining performance int he three... he's SO funny and almost steals this movie. And it JUST occurred to me JUST NOW, even though I've seen this flick a billion times, that the thing with the horse is that he was drinking while horsing, which BIFF was doing in the FIRST movie, but with George's car. I can't believe I missed that ... As far as a little movie history, when these two sequels came out... there was at least several months between them, and I remember me & my friends trying to figure out HOW Marty would get back home without the DeLorean. We just weren't thinking 4th dimensionally; we had a real problem with that :D

Every time I watch this one I say "Horses can't do 88. If only some British guy had invented a faster form of transport in Teesside!"
It's hard for me not to consider parts II and III just different halves of the same movie, but they really knocked it out of the park with this. I loved the focus on Doc for the third movie, the development of his romantic relationship, and of course the amazing performance of Thomas Wilson as Buford Tannen. DEFINITELY the best version of Biff.
I always felt that Marty developed his "nobody calls me a chicken" quirk because of the changes he made in his father's life. We didn't see that character trait in the first movie because he was still the son of a dorky guy who never stood up for himself. Seems reasonable that by changing his family's history, he might have changed himself a little too, and given himself something he needed to reconcile over the next couple movies. Besides, it seems only fair to give him something he always falls for, since Biff always falls for the "What the hell is THAT?!" misdirect.
BTW, Telltale Games made a 5-episode 'Back to the Future: The Game' that takes place right after this trilogy. It's actually kinda epic, and many consider it a sequel trilogy (really more of a quintology) all its own. There are a couple of plot points that feel like plot holes: 1) The DeLorean that Doc arrived in and stowed in the mine should still have gasoline in the tank. So it would have just required Doc to fix the fuel line and pump the gas out of the stored DeLorean. 2) How did Doc manage to build the time machine in the train, if he couldn't fix the time circuits on the DeLorean that the stored for Marty? Its not like he would have had the parts later in the 19th or early 20th century.
Fun fact: the guy the Marty is racing against at the end of the movie, is Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers..Hr also play the guy who make Marty scan his card, so he get fired in the second movie

With all the callbacks, one that didn’t quite happen was that in part 1, a Ronald Reagan film was playing at the town theater and Doc was flabbergasted that Reagan would be President in 1985. In part 2, a Max Headroom (you may have to look up the reference) version of Reagan was offering up the menu at the Cafe 80’s. For part 3, the producers wanted the part of the mayor of Hill Valley to be played by... Ronald Reagan! Reagan loved the first movie so much when it was screened for him at Camp David that he asked the projectionist to back up the film and play the scene again where Doc ridicules the idea that Reagan could be President. Reagan was asked to come out of (motion picture) retirement to play the part. He reportedly considered it, but ultimately declined.
Reagan declined the role because he was already suffering from Alzheimer's Disease to the point that he felt he wasn't up to acting anymore, even in a relatively minor role in one of his favorite movie series of all time.
There wasn't supposed to be a part 2. The writer said if he knew he'd write a part 2 he wouldn't of had Jennifer get in the time machine at the end of part 1.

For the originality of the story, the first BTTF was the best. Action-wise, I like 3 the best. Number 2 was ok but 1 and 3 we're awesome!
Part III is my favorite too so you’re not alone with that. I actually saw it in the theater back when it first came out. Great theater experience!
Last known grizzly bear in California was shot in 1908, but there are still something like 30000 black bears in the state.
3:45 Doc. All westerns, up until the mid 1960's with Sergio Leon (who made the brutally realistic man with no name trilogy....good movies you outta watch, ma'am), were VERY sanitized, campy and 'safe'. And what Marty is wearing is what the mainstream ideas for cowboys and westerns perceived.
You're so wrong about Jennifer, Part 1, she pushes Marty to play music and she's very loving. Part 2 and 3, she's saving Marty's future, she's the mother of his kids in trouble in Part 2, and she has to know married with Marty. The best woman a man can get.

Actually, the "To be continued" at the end of the first movie was intend to be a joke. They didn't have originally the intension to do a sequel. Otherwise the writer would not have put Jennifer in the car with Doc and Marty. That's why she don't have major part in sequels.
Doc & Clara couldn't have made it to the DeLorian on that hoverboard. It just wasn't going fast enough. So Doc reverted back to his original plan to stay in the past. One thing I always wondered is if 1985 Doc (or perhaps he had Clara do it) ever went back and told 1955 Doc that they were successful so he didn't have to wonder his whole life. On a side note, you're beautiful and I love your personality.

1) It's an earlier time travel movie.
2) Mary Steenbergen (Clara) also falls in love with a time traveler.
3) For real, too. She later married her co-star, Malcolm McDowell.
4) Except for the opening scenes in London, it is mostly set in San Francisco.

Bears did live in the west, but you would never find a blackbear in a desert like that.
If you like westerns, watch A Fistful Of Dollars... it's the Eastwood movie that alternate 1985 Biff was watching in Part II... also checkout For A Few Dollars More and The Good The Bad & The Ugly. The crane shot of going over the Hill Valley sign and seeing the town is a direct shot homage to the western Once Upon A Time in the West
The thing about Jennifer you made me realize is that she's the only constant in this series.
There were no changes done to her character throughout the series, the closest was in the future but if she had done more she couldn't have been the anchor for reality.
It reminds me of something that I just can't put my finger on, not sure why a constant is important (probably saw it in another movie...idk)

Fun fact: these sequels were never intended to be made. Marty, Jennifer, and Doc flying into the future at the end of part 1 caused a problem for the writers with Jennifers character.
10:00 Yeah - the ending of Part 1 was basically a joke - but the movie was huge and the studio was going to make a sequel with or without the original creators. So they got on board but there was the problem of Jennifer - the writer of these movies admits he had no idea what to do with Jennifer now she was in the car - so she just gets knocked out 5 mins into the movie.
Clara played in a movie called Last Vegas it was pretty good. I think she is still married to Ted Danson from the series Cheers.
Stand by me is a great one written by Stephen king Joaquin Phoenix’s brother River Phoenix. It’s a tear jerker.
Interesting story, if you watch the back to the Future commentary on the dvd. They talk about how originally it was just going to be one back to the Future and when it was originally in theaters there was no to be continued. They said if they had any plans on making a sequel they wouldn't have brought Jennifer along. They said they were kind of trapped with the character there.

well the purpose of Jennifer is primarily motivation...Marty lacks confidence like his father, in the original timeline his dad was a failure (until that was changed) and even after there were consequences to that. Marty primarily brings up Jennifer at times when it comes to him lacking confidence or believing he can't do something.
Since you are into Westerns you should check out Open Range. Very underrated western directed and starred in by Kevin Costner. Also stars Robert DuVall, Annette Bening, and Diego Luna. Also, might check out the miniseries 1883. To me the best thing on television last year. Stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, LaMonica Garrett, and Isabel May. Also has cameos from Tom Hanks and Billy Bob Thornton as well.

I wonder how the Doc, who died, had a romance with Clara.
She was supposed to go into the ravine, but she was saved when Marty and Doc were investigating the train tracks to see if they could get the car up to 88mph. So how did she not die in the timeline where Doc was shot and killed in the past?
That Doc would've had no reason to be investigating the tracks, because he was content with staying in the past.
The guy who tries to race Marty and is his boss in the future is Flea the base player for the ed Hot Chili peppers .

8:17 Fox is a pretty good method actor, he's being hung for real in this scene. It was an accident but they kept it in the film.
That was actually a copy of the first refrigeration machine built by Jacob Perkins almost 50 years before this was supposed to take place.
Hard to believe but everything from part 1 to 3 was only a total of like 2 weeks and his brother went from brown to white hair. And one plot hole I didn't notice as a kid, there were two Delorians in 1885, the one we see throughout the movie and the one burrued in the mine. They could have dug it out and siphoned the fuel.
Doc Brown would have siphoned out the fuel, like you do when you put a car up for long term storage. Seventy year old gas would have solidified like shellac.
7:45 was another sign of his parkinson's. When they filmed the scene, when he ran out of the saloon, "his legs stopped working" and he fell over
