@@asasas9146 The Treaty of Versailles was in itself amoral with one main goal, to punish Germany so it could never recover enough economically to threaten Europe. This was due to a thing that's often ignored when people present WWI, namely that the Germans as a population were stoked to show the rest of Europe their superiority. it's always that Germany only found itself in WWI due to diplomatic circumstances, which is incorrect.
The Treaty itself eventually gave room for Hitler to seize power and become the beloved dictator that many Germans saw him as, until the full extent of the KZ-camps was revealed that is.
Meynard Keynes protested the Treaty of Versailles as he believed that it would lead to the circumstances that it did. The treaty after WWII was a lot more lenient than the Treaty of Versailles as the Allied powers this time took Keynes' criticism to heart.

This video is extremely unrealistic for several reasons:
    1) If Britain didn't guarantee to intervene militarily against Germany, POLAND AND GERMANY WOULD NOT HAVE GONE TO WAR. Poland would cede Danzig, and the Germans might have used the opportunity to seize parts of the Polish Corridor. However, the Germans would be careful to not instigate a larger conflict with Poland. So, there would be no Soviet invasion of Poland, no Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, and no occupation of Poland at large.
    2) Germany wanted Poland as a buffer state and potential ally against communism, which both the Germans and Poles viewed as a Jewish power. After Poland ceded Danzig, Germany would attempt to bring Poland into their alliance.
    3) The Western Allies did not care about Finland to the extent that the civilian populations of America, France and Britain did. Churchill would not have given much aid to Finland, and even if they did, no amount of aid would have led to a Finnish victory. Finland was too far away, while it was also right on the Russian border.
    4) There was most likely going to be a war with the USSR, so this part is correct. However, given that there was no western support in this timeline, a political collapse of the USSR is much more likely, rather than a military collapse.
    5) This video makes a massive error with suggesting that a post-War Germany would be economically weak with the potential for dissent and collapse. For a historical example, the USSR was nearly destroyed by WW2, had lost tens of millions of people, and was a multi-ethnic empire. Despite this, it took 5 decades of western sanction, proxy conflicts, and propaganda for the USSR to collapse. Germany would have none of these problems. It would be a homogenous German nation, it would have lost only a few million people with the civilian population mostly unaffected, would have plenty of access to food, and would have an extremely popular and efficient government.

Germany would be no more likely to fall to civil war than the USA would have been. The USSR never fell to civil war after WW2, despite far worse circumstances.

Something I want to note, I think you massively overestimate how efficient the Nazi government was, there was a lot of political infighting and other bureaucratic inefficiencies throughout their system.
Further more Nazi ideology would inevitably create constant resistance across their empire as they were ideologically driven to systemically murder non-German populations they subjugated, basically everywhere east of their original borders they're occupying they'd be dealing with partisan guerrillas pretty much as long as any non-German inhabitants are alive, the amount of people they'd have to murder to stabilise their holdings would be a cartoonish number that'd be right at home in a MasterofRoflness video.
Basically the Nazis actually winning the peace would a whole mess simply because of fundamental flaws in their ideology.

2- you might be right, i dont know much, but again, first point.
however even in the case where germany "allies" poland, they would turn it into a protectorade simply because they are bigger and stronger, and poland is on their way.
3- the very video says is because they want to make a propaganda victory against an enemy (the soviets)
4-i guess?...stalin's puges had just happened, to trigger a collapse/coup we would need total military defeat, such as loosing moscow, leningrad, stalingrad, and caucaus. or maybe just stalin dying in moscow.
5-i get what you say here, but there is a substancial diference betwen a normal ocupation and genocide of a massive nation, germany would need to put to use its army constantly to garrison all that masive land, and everything depends if germany sucessfully transitionates its conquest based economy into a permanent one.

There was a huge debate to attack the western colonies or the Soviets in Japan at the time. I would very much assume that in a situation where Japan is still trading with the west and the Soviets are getting shit kicked by the Germans, they’d be far more likely to attack outer Manchuria and eastern Siberia. I doubt they attack the western colonies yet when the Soviets are in such a compromised position.

    • @InfernosReaper

Yeah, definitely would be better to go after the Soviets, which would actually score them points with the west, while potentially opening up some more resources
Also, without the drive to go to war with Germany, Japan becomes a less appealing foe for the West. In our timeline, war with Japan to exploit their alliance with Germany to get the war with Germany.
In the presented timeline, no such motivation exists, because the Allies didn't go to war with Germany, but Germany did go to war against the Soviets, the perceived greater of 2 evils(in the presented timeline)

But There just isn't a good enough reason for Japan to attack the Soviets. The eastern half of Siberia small pockets of oil aside was not resourceful enough to fuel the japanese war effort especially if they really wanted to have a fleet that could compare to their western counterparts. They would also be fighting an enemy who both outnumbered them and had significantly better tech even worse the Soviets would no doubt help reinforce China and vice versa at least to some extent rendering Japan's own technological advantage over china useless. It makes way more sense for Japan even if they are still trading with allies to wait for the perfect moment to pounce on European positions in Asia. The territories have way more resources, they are lightly defended on account of Germany either capturing their mainlands or distracting them, and have people who are willing to aid Japan remove Europeans from the soil, and while you could argue that it's unfair to judge Japan on hindsight the axis still aren't winning if japan dose attack the soviets in fact i say it doubles japans chances of having its northern island being turned into a soviet puppet. The only way I see Japan attacking the Soviets over the Allies is if it's led by a particularly mentally ill leader not unlike Hitler.

The japanese were significantly far behind the west and the soviets in terms of tech and didn't have the guns nor tanks to counter the soviets on a large front. Remember the only reason the japanese advanced as far as they did was because they attacked lightly defended territories the Europeans didn't want to and or couldn't reinforce not to mention most were islands that had little to no military presence to begin with in contrast by the time the allies defeated Germany and refocused on Japan the japanese could do little outside of hide in caves and fake surrender and especially on the soviet front the japanese were pushed back fast and hard. The only large front the japanese had success in was China and that was only because the Chinese were even farther behind in terms of tech. And of course there were the border clashes that the japanese lost so bad they begged for Stalin to sign a non aggression pact heck the japanese were so scared of the soviets they refused to fire at American boats carrying Soviet lend lease. Point is the japanese couldn't invade Siberia even if they wanted to and they knew it they hoped that Hitler could march through Russia so that they could jump in when the soviets were so weak it wouldn't matter but that wasn't going to ever happen hence no Siberian invasion.

honestly, if we look on the 1930's German economy that relying heavily on MEFO bills and territorial conquest, their economy is vulnerable. Hitler wanted to go to war with the Czech because he knew, his economic plan is not viable in long term peace time to fuel his unreasonable ambition. if the apeasement continue, which will not followed by the subject of the appeasement itself (Poland, Balkan Nation, Baltic nation, etc), considering all the nation surrounding Germany has already seen the fate of the Austrian and Czech, wich lead to early war that the German not prepared, and with this, I expect German economy will crumble faster, and Hitler popularity will not as high as in our timeline.

  • @blackgold2589
    @blackgold2589 Год назад +133

There’s many parts in this scenario that I find issue, chiefly with Germany and the USSR.
But first, Stalin wasn’t ever going to give up on Finland, his paranoia drove the war due to issues of the proximity of Leningrad to Finland and Finland being used as a staging post, this actually happening with British and French forces would only increase this. At minimum Stalin isn’t giving up until he gets something from Finland and Finland, no matter how much support just can’t beat the USSR, there is only so much a tiny nation of a few million can do against something 20x it’s size. Even if it’s only a tiny strip of the mannerheim he will not stop until he gets it.
Secondly, I doubt the idea that Germany would perform better in Barbarossa ittl than otl, by 1940 the German economy was completely broke they were utterly dependent on looting other countries just to keep functioning. These countries were primarily western, Hitler hoped to take from the east but the utter devastation meant that this just never happened, pretty much all the way until ‘45. Two, with peace in the west there really isn’t a way for Stalin to ignore reality about the Germans, 90% of German success was due to soviet incompetence and while the purges were a decent portion of that by far it was the fault of Stalin with warning a lot of the problems that came with this just don’t exist. The primary one being there are much fewer encirclements, and secondly that Soviet industry evacuates east much quicker than OTL, tbh I don’t understand how this would go worse ittl than otl, and that much of the Soviet airforce survives. Obviously the Soviet airforce is much inferior to the Germans but they are in a much better position to equalise and crucially aren’t so dependent on lend lease. No Lend lease in Barbarossa wouldn’t have much effect as lend lease wouldn’t really pick up until 42
Not to say that the USSR would curbstomp Germany, I’d imagine the initial push into the USSR achieves fewer gains than otl and the Soviet counterattack is worse, and then the Germans have much better success pushing into the caucuses but this doesn’t really get them anything, everything is still extremely scorched earth. Things are going worse for the Soviets but that doesn’t mean that the Germans are better off. But, as things go forward, the German army would eventually grind down the USSR without lend lease from the USA maybe even push them back to the Urals, but the idea that Eastern Europe is just going to ‘give in’ doesn’t make sense. Without distractions in the west and Germany being even more dependent off looting everything not nailed down it’s abundantly clear to everyone that this is literally victory or death anyone willing to give in would be quickly ‘gotten rid of’. And even if Soviet military capabilities, or whichever state replaces them, is ground down to where they can only do low intensity conflict Germany stills falls apart within the decade. A tiny nation of 60 million which has already lost millions of their best soldiers simply can’t occupy that much territory even if the populace wasn’t trying to kill them at every turn. As Germany begins to waste resources implementing their delusional Eastern European plans, which they have even less of without the money taken from the rich west, things begin to fall apart, there isn’t enough money to pay everyone, run the factories, and garrison the money sink of Eastern Europe, especially with the likelihood of western sanctions for things like the Holocaust which the Allies did in fact know about. likely things crumble on until 48 or 49 where everything falls apart at once revolts happen all over EE and whatever Uralian rump state sweeps in to the rest of Eastern Europe, the military coups the nsdap and either invites the west in for whatever good terms they can get, or just keeps falling apart until the west just walks in to minimal German resistance and whatever territory they still have left in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, etc.

He was for signing a peace treaty with Germany after dunkirk, most likely seeing Alsace go back to Germany, and regaining their territories they lost after WW1, but aside from that return to status quo, Hitler had no real ambitions in Western Europe, all his ambitions were in the East.
With this, the UK would not lose any territory, as Hitler did not want to antagonize the British, thats part of the reason why the BEF wasnt wiped out, as to show good faith towards the British to hopefully sue for peace, which the nazis could've done.
France would probably have some sort of collapse, with them already being on the brink of a civil war before WW2, this humiliation would be the last straw and cause them to fall into a civil war between communists and the right (idk if it would be the fascists as they just got conquered by them in a number of weeks), with this, no North Africa campaign and the soviets would get trampled, as the UK would be willing to trade with the Germans, and the British did have no love for the soviets, so basically this video's timeline but a bit better for the Germans

While the main reason for this in our timeline is that they did not want to aid France and Britain while they were at war with Germany, there would still probably be fears that the Western Allies would occupy the Swedish iron mines and the adjacent Norwegian coast. What people tend to forget and also don't like to mention because they don't want anything positive to be said about the big moustache man is that Germany's case for a lot of the things they requested wasn't really unjustified. I think this is really important when talking about appeasement. People always talk about Austria-hungaries instability and how it wasn't really right for the Austrian empire to be so overextended with other nationalities but Yugoslavia and chzechoslovakia were basically just mini Austria Hungary's. Chzechoslovakian identity didn't even exist before the creation of that state and was only created as a counter balance to the fact that Germans were so numerous in chzechoslovakia they needed a majority that was sizable enough to keep the germans in check. To give you an example.more Germans lived in chzechoslovakia then slovaks with most of them living in majority areas. Same goes for Ukrainians, poles , hungarians and slovaks. All of these areas didn't actually want to be part of chzechoslovakia. Just after ww1 the Austrian republic was born which included all sudeten territories and immediately tried to join the weimar republic but was forbidden from doing so. Then the sudeten territories were ripped from the Austrian republic and given to chzechoslovakia. They were promised certain rights they never got in the end. The germans of chzechoslovakia genuinely wanted to join Germany but chzechoslovakia wouldn't have it and suppressed all political activity and the germans pretty much themselves. They even put forward a bill which I don't remember which was about German rights in chzechoslovakia (political and otherwise) that was actually rejected by the chzechoslovakian state. I genuinely think it wasn't unreasonable at all for Germany to demand these territories as the people themselves wanted to join Germany. But after the Munich agreement the other minorities in chzechoslovakia wanted to join their respective nations as well and the country crumbled in on itself. Germany took advantage of it and made some chzechoslovakian government officials sign for Germany to "stabilise the region" and make a protectorate while dividing the other areas to the other nations like Hungary for example.

Soviet officers where not stupid and unlike our timeline that Stalin hold back the soviet army at the start in fear of getting bad diplomatic with Germany, we could definitely expect a great stall at the start of the war since the whole soviet army would be waiting for the germans and not sitting still like they were in our timeline ,their airforce wouldn't be easily destroyed in the airfields. We could definitely expect some germans advance after 6 months of war. But to expect german war machine to do better is just unrealistic even without allied bombings. We could totally expect some allied help to the Soviets ,since western powers even do didn't like the communists the didn't like the idea of a Continental nazy Germany. My best guess would be that white peace after a war more grinding than our Soviet-german war of our timeline . With perhaps the a coup from the army and a early break of the soviet union.

I’d assume the Germans stop at the Ural Mountains though

What if the Vikings had succeeded in settling Vinland? I think it would require a change of mindset such that they didn't discount the notion of learning from indigenous people, and perhaps allying with them.

What if Franz Ferdinand became Franz II? I though about this scenario a lot and I think it would be the Catholic pipe dream (he wanted to reorganise Austria Hungary federally in a Catholic centered and not German culture centered way). It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this.

The reason for Indian independence was British desire to reduce the costs from their colonies, because of devastation from the way and increased costs from the NHS.
Why, in this scenario where neither are likely, does India gain independence?

What if the sudentenland was given to Germany in the Munich argeement but it was declared a demilitarised zone for the German army with the Czech army still allowed to deploy there. Ie it was only a civilian transfer and the military borders remained the same?
