Hey robuilder their is a plug-in called material flip where you can make the brick go horizontal instead of vertical with just enabling the plugin and selecting the cylinder
The reason why you shouldn’t use unions is they create inefficient geometry compared to models made in blender For example, if you save a union and open it in blender, you can find lots of duplicate vertices and faces

It's hard to find exact information but typically consensus is agreed that a simple union is better than a simple mesh, meanwhile a complex mesh is much more optimised than a complex union.

an important note for the last tip: beware of scripts that try to harm you. be carefull what you spawn.

For movement I'd use 0.2 or 0.1. parts can still be even and they don't move not enough or too much. Just a personal preference.
0.5-0.05 for me
I use F3X because A) I'm familiar with it and B) stupid easy to use and I always move/resize on .25 studs
