During the fuel polishing process, the return line and suction line are on opposite ends of the tank. This creates a flow/sweeping motion within the tank that pushes debris and other forms of contamination towards the suction line for removal. Ideally, the more contamination removed before being stirred up into the fuel, the better. This reduces the amount of time necessary to bring the fuel to specification.
