  • I synced the Vintage 1945 MGM Technicolor film with the 2011 John Wilson's re-creation of the MGM studio orchestra arrangement.
We watch a film and appreciate the talent... The sets and costumes fill the screen. The dancing and music fill our eyes and ears. What typically is unseen are the talented musicians of the orchestra and chorus performing brilliantly off-screen. In this video, we SEE IT ALL.
The John Wilson Orchestra is made up of handpicked virtuosos. The 56 musicians are the best of the best. Also performing is solo singer Matthew Ford and The 36 member Chorus, the renown Maida Vale Singers.
The live on-stage 2011 concert was performed before an audience of 4300 at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
BBC Proms show title: "Hooray for Hollywood."
Song title: "This Heart of Mine"
    Written for Fred Astaire.
Music: Harry Warren. Lyrics: Arthur Freed.
Featured in the 1945 film: "Ziegfeld Follies".
I have obtained a re-mastered print of the original 1945 Technicolor footage converted to 1080p, HD resolution. I then synced this classic movie dance sequence to match the John Wilson Orchestra performance.

John Wilson is heroic in bringing back all the Hollywood greats and he’s precise in his orchestration. Bravo and kudos to this genius. What a treasure. Listening to his BBC Proms is s a gift.

Arthur Freed, who produced all the great MGM Musicals had an earlier career as a lyricist (all the great songs from Singing In The Rain)
He teams with Harry Warren in a sweeping waltz. Wilson's BBC re creation of Conrad Salingers original orchestration is with a much bigger orchestra than MGM would have used. ( 5- Count em French Horns) A most Rhapsodic musical moment. Your pairing a superior moment of music with the film sequence makes you a director par excellence.

Thanks for the posting - I loved watching this. It goes to demonstrate just how good John wilson and his orchestra are in both hunting down these original arrangements - this one by Conrad Salinger - and also executing them beautifully. This is some of the very best of the musical curator's art alive today. Is it any wonder that these prom concerts sell out quicker than any other? And much to the envy and disgust of some who consider themselves music fans.
