There is a reason for this. To reach this level of brilliance takes time, hard work, dedication and commitment. It takes great sacrifice. And unfortunately the young musicians of today are not prepared to go that road. They think that making enough noise and making it LOUDER will compensate. It won't.
Absolutely beautiful, the singing the arrangement. When I listen I always think of my beautiful wife of 55 years who passed away 13 months ago. She is always in my heart.

And Conrad Salinger's arrangement is exquisite. Also the mixer gets props for magic reproduction of this wonderful piece in a live audience situation. All in all, pure heaven~!
This is Harry Warren’s melody that he wrote in 1943 as one of his first MGM assignments. Freed wrote the lyric. This was the Connie Salinger arrangement for the Fred Astaire treatment in “Ziegfeld Follies.”
Sweet and soothing...simply beautiful as sung by Matt Ford...and played by John Wilson's Orchestra...I keep on listening to this song "This Heart of Mine " as it brings memories of the Golden Era of the movies....

I try to revisit this webpage every 3 to 6 months because I can't remember any musical piece and performance that moves me more profoundly than this one. No concerto or symphony has ever moved me as strongly as this brilliant Conrad Salinger orchestration. The exhilaration this piece and performance brings me is immeasurable, but it comes with a great sense of sadness that American (and Western culture) could have reached such a musical zenith back in the 1940's, only to descend to the depth's and depravity of today's American Pop music. What a travesty.
Beautifully done and equal to the movie version with Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer. Next step - add two amazing dancers like Astaire and Bremer to the mix.
This "ear-candy" is JAW-DROPPING. Absolutely stunning!!! I recently watched the MGM filM, "The Ziegfield Follies" and although The Astaire/Bremer dance sequence is magical in it's own right, when watching the film, the visual overpowers the music. Listening to the music by itself, it takes on a whole new dimension. The Conrad Salinger orchestration is one of the most uplifting I've ever heard. It actually brought me to tears of joy and .... sadness. Yes sadness at hearing the majesty American Pop music once achieved in its "Golden Age" and the depths to which it has finally sunk. As an American songwriter and music publisher, I offer major kudos and gratitude to John Wilson for reminding us of what Western Culture was once capable of producing. I'm new to The John Wilson Orchestra, but I'm hoping he will be doing a West Coast American tour in 2019. I sure hope a CD of this concert is available.
well, it's a good song, and well done in the movie, even if Fred and Bremer seem to be playing out a contrived scenario. check out their Limehouse Blues number in the same film. the best thing in it, and a stellar achievement in its own right. Wilson's version of this seems a bit bombastic, and the singer soloist was not exactly to swoon over. love the song, though. nice to hear it in an orchestral setting, and nice chorus as well. i would have liked to have heard Judy Garland do it. maybe she did.
