This is very helpful! While there are a lot of videos about menopause online, yours are the best and they cover things such as this, that a lot of channels/videos do not cover. Thanks again!!
Hi Nandini Painful periods often appear in the peri-menopause and may be caused by low magnesium. You may find taking a magnesium supplement, approx 200mg twice a day can help. However, if you don't quickly see any improvement then it is important to get it checked out by your doctor just to rule out any issues such as fibroids or a prolapse.
You are the best thank you. Last month, my period came for five days as normal two days after it finished it came back and was rather heavy with clot blood, first time this has happened to me it lasted two weeks. This month it's here now it's heavy with discomfort but I am monitoring it to see how long it would last. I would get to the doctor as soon as this Covid 19 blows over. But I was rather concern by all of this until I found your video. Thank you so much.
Hi If your pain is really severe then it is important to see your doctor. Other health issues such as fibroids, polyps or even a prolapse can be a factor and your doctor can check to rule them out. Best Wishes Eileen
@@AvogelCoUk it started in December where it felt like I had the flu. Now every 7-10 days before my period I get period flu symptoms for about 3 days. The next day my period comes on for about 2 days of red show then nothing. The cramps are lingering. last night was the worse this has been. I’m drenched in sweat and the pain was excruciating. I just waking up and my body is now acting like nothing happened. Making an appointment today.
This is really common. My colleague Emma has written an article on this so please do take a look www.avogel.co.uk/health/periods/why-do-i-have-back-pain-on-my-period/ Best Wishes Eileen
Thank you for this video. I noticed my period started changing in the spring. When it finished it started up again But it was light bleeding Then it went back to normal next few months. In July came down with extreme fatigue during my period. Last month it was very light only lasted for four days. Now this month went back to normal to heavy bleeding the first 3 days started feeling really bad lower back pain where can't even stand for more than 5 minutes, feeling light headed, extreme fatigue feeling wiped out. Found that I have Pcos.
The best advice is to get any fatigue and heavy bleeding investigated by the GP. I often recommend that you seek an appointment with someone like a Nutritional practitioner to work with your menopause symptoms and PCOS as they can support you and get you on the right track.
I’m 53 and every time I skip a period I get really awful cramps for weeks. It’s like my uterus is trying to contract but nothing is coming out. Been cramping for two weeks now.
Hi Amy Unfortunately, this can happen as you approach the menopause. Although your hormones may be falling there is still a monthly cycle; not high enough for a bleed but still enough to give PMS symptoms. This can also be caused by a sudden dip of magnesium at period time and this can trigger muscle cramping. I would suggest approx 150mg of magnesium twice a day but if this doesn't help then it is wise to get a check up from your doctor. Best Wishes Eileen
Oh my gosh! This is exactly what I’m experiencing. It feels like my uterus spasms and contracts and my pelvic area and even my vagina cramps bad. My period was so light this month and it’s very light. I feel like I need to pee. I believe I’m in perimenopause.
Hi AurA Your supplements are fine to take in the peri-menopause and menopause. Cramping can often be eased with a magnesium supplement, however, if you are getting this every day then it is important to get a check -up from your doctor as well.
I’m taking the prime rose evening oil but this cycle or period it didn’t work for the insane cramps. I have fibroids maybe that’s why. I’m making appt with Gyno for milder birth control pill. Oil was good for a while.
H your information is very comforting, I am 44 years old in 2021 I went to the dr for heavy bleeding, they did an ultrasound I have 3 fibroids that are small and not growing, I’ve had them for years,My ultrasound came out normal except my left ovary was suboptimal do you know what that means, about 5 months ago i started having a little sharp pain that comes and go on my left lower side of stomach, do you think they missed something I’m worried, but Dr appointment tomorrow

Hi Glory Period pains without periods are quite common in the menopause but if they are getting worse, painkillers don't help or they are lasting days then it is important to check with your doctor. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Michelle Do keep an eye on your periods, if they continue to be heavy this could result in anaemia which can cause other health issues. Your doctor may be able to offer non-hormonal medication to slow down the bleeding and also test your iron levels. Heavy painful periods can also be caused by factors such as fibroids or polyps so it is wise to get them checked at some point just to rule these out. Best Wishes Eileen
Very helpful video. I've suffered terrible pains in my perineum right up to the front pelvic bone. It fells like a metal bar being pushed across it. I have mentioned this to my doctor but he has not taken me seriously. Is this normal?
Hi Emer. Discomfort in this area can often indicate a prolapse so it is important that your doctor takes this seriously. They should, at least, organise a scan for you to see what is happening. Please do go back to them and ask for this to be checked out for you. If you feel that your doctor is going to dismiss you again then take along a friend or relative and ask them to write down everything that the doctor says; usually this gets results!
Hello doctor im supper terrible pain during my menstrual period im 49 years old what will i do? Im just take pain reliver but there is no effect! Please help me doc.
Hi Antonia Low magnesium can often contribute to period pain as well as dehydration. You may find a magnesium supplement 200mg twice a day can help and don't forget to drink at least 1.5 litres of plain water daily. If this regime doesn't help then it is important to see your doctor. Other issues such as fibroids, polyps/cysts or even a prolapse can cause severe period pain so your doctor can make sure that these are not a trigger. Best Wishes Eileen
Hello, very very informative video. My mother is 53 and she has been getting irregular periods, heavy periods, light periods, spotting and even skipping periods since the last 2-3 years. The last ultrasound we got was 5 months ago which was normal in the size of the ovaries, the length of the cervix etc. There was one small fibroid which the doctor said was not worrisome. She was given 21 day medicine after which her periods have become regular. It really worries me because she's 53 and she's still getting her periods every month along with spotting here and there. The pain in the pelvis and problems of constipation make the already cycles painful as well. Can you please tell me if this is normal perimenopausal symptom or of something else?
Hi Divyanshi The average age for the menopause to start is 45-55 so your mother is still within the normal range. Periods changing like this is very common and many women will experience fluctuations like this. It is good that she has had a check up and all seems OK. Constipation can be a big factor so it is really important that she tries to resolve this and do encourage her to drink plenty of plain water every day over and above her usual drinks. Falling oestrogen can cause dehydration and this will make the constipation worse! However, if she is still worried then it is best to contact her doctor again just to discuss things further. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Archana Great to hear that you find the videos informative, thank you! You would need to ask your doctor why they have given you a progesterone supplement; usually it is for heavy periods in the peri-menopause but there could be other reasons. Your doctor will also be able to help regarding safety, unfortunately, we can’t comment on prescribed drugs, sorry.
@@AvogelCoUk Hello MRsVogel, I know that in perimenopause the progesterone is low and is almost enable to balance the effect of high estrogen, so if oestrogen is high prostaglandines are high and that's why is so painful the cycle, so to balance progesteron, to enhance it, detecting is linked to a low vitamin D, should help to have less pain, is right? a lack of vitamin d can be the problem for such pain in perimenopause?

You could check the brand Magnesium OK or ask the Health food shop for a good brand and follow the recommendations, (400 to 550 mg would be helpful).

What causes spotting after your period with clots, that last until the next period?
There can be various reasons for this, such as a sign of an infection, low iron levels, a small fibroid or cyst or the hormonal shift during the menopause. It is best to seek an appointment with the GP.
The spotting has stopped, I’m about a week from my next cycle though. It didn’t do that last month.
