The waiting in the ferry terminal must have seemed endless. Maybe in hindsight a bite to eat at the truck-stop would have been a good idea. I wondered at one point if you were going to end up in a muddy field. How did you plan the route? Thanks for sharing your ride.
Hi Colin. Yes, the truck stop would have been a great idea but there I was, naively thinking the ferry terminal would have a bit more on offer than a crisp dispenser. Oh well. Route planning is a problem. I’ve tried various bits of software, and nothing’s perfect. I began on Garmin Connect (which I think I used for the Paris trip) but it’s terrible at distinguishing footpaths from roads so I’ve abandoned that, currently using RideWithGPS which is much better in that respect but has its own pitfalls.
I don’t know, maybe! Right now as I’m reading your comment I’m riding across the Fens going up to Lincs and it look oks very like Holland here. I gather it was Dutch settlers centuries ago who moved in and drained this land, it must have ended up looking like home to them.
This was so thoroughly enjoyable. Have done this ride several times and one of my favs. I wonder if you regretted rushing to Dieppe only to spend time in the ferry terminal rather than taking more time in Paris and towns along the way, Obvs created great experience and watching experiencing (I'm sure many of us have been there huddled in the wee small hours waiting for trains/ferries etc and can relate to the experience)
Well, funny thing is, one of the things I like the best is the random unpredictable moments, like when I was in that field by a river in the middle of the night. Maybe if I’d seen it in daylight it wouldn’t have had the mystery so I was (perversely?) glad I’d done it mostly as a night ride. You’ve it several times? Awesome! I hope to have another go some other time and will probably try a daytime trip like you say. Cheers!
Well, you’re right of course, time is something I’m always short of - but then, if I do choose to travel by bicycle, there’s something about this particular speed I really enjoy. Planes and cars hold no attraction for me at all, even if it did mean a spot of hammock time at the other end.
This is fast becoming one of my favourite channels on RUclips, great content Mr London Centuries
Very glad you like it, and thanks for taking the trouble to leave a comment - appreciated. Happy riding to you!
Blackpool Tower is looking splendid. Lol great video as always. Not long to PBP 👍
😀 ah, Blackpool. Now there’s an interesting idea…..

I guess Normandy looks like southern England because of the lasting legacy of the Norman Conquest?

intrepid stuff! and not without humour..... (⌒▽⌒)
It seems your always pressed for time. I'd say get to your destination then take a day and sleep in your hammock and have a day off the bike..??
