Spending easily a full hour on just getting the proportions on paper felt like I was being extremely slow, and thought artists like you would put that down on paper in a couple of minutes. Its very relieving to know that it's just a very precise and time consuming process... Thank you for another great demonstration!
old masters took months and years. It makes sense that the more time you take the more likely your art would look better, i think patience is one of the virtues that sets apart a good artist from a bad one.
This technique makes sense to me. You draw like a sculptor. I majored in Art in college many moons ago, and was taught in my figure drawing class only a fraction of what I've learned here. No wonder I felt confused and overwhelmed back then. This is much more comprehensive. Wish I'd learned your method 50 years ago.
I agree. I am a self taught artist. I learned to draw by studying Michelangelo...which of course he drew/painted as a sculptor. I try to draw the same way. It works sometimes 😊
Technique-wise I think what yields best results is a painterly approach, and conceptually approach it like a sculptor. So treat your pencil and graphite like a brush and paint, build up the shapes and value layers as if you're sculpting.
Really appreciate these lengthy and detailed videos. Your English is understandable and fine. The music is wonderful. I draw like you...so this is an enjoyable experience. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Keep making more!😊
What a soulful, raw expression she has. Props to the model. And I love the artist's technique. I so appreciate that the drawing is done in real time. I have a question: why isn't it good to do curved lines?
Curved vs straight lines can be employed in different ways. Their are pros and cons to using one ore the other however it's mostly up to artistic choice. In a study of da Vinci's horse study sketch. He employs two curved lines and two straight lines emplying the imperfdet yet perfect nature of nature
I subscribed. Very enjoyable and valuable/ helpful presentation. Very solid block in. This exactly where I want my lay ins to be. Solid and confident with single value shadow shapes and well defined planes.
Hello Anh Coung, wonderful video, looooooove the step by step, I also always thought that the master artists can just start and bam here's the face but you still need to break everything down and it was definitely a pleasure to see even if this video is years old. Megan is a trooper model and she is very beautiful. No problems with accent, English is very good. My thing is you sounded low even with my volume all the way high. With your voice, me straining to listen to every word, the music didn't help. I put my earbuds in to cancel out any of my minute background noise and had to put the volume on high to catch all your words. I haven't watched part2 yet so not sure if sound quality is better or not but definitely an amazing demonstration, Cam On Nhieu Lam! Looking forward to watching everything you put out!
I completely agree. I did think the music was lovely, but is louder than your voice. It was frustrating because it took me away from your teaching with causing some anxiety... watching drawing, hearing music, and faintly talking for a long period of time. On my TV, the speaker volume is up to 80 and I typically watch TV with the volume at 10-12 decibels. Your technique makes the most sense to me. Hopefully your other videos have better volume with less music or none at all. Thank you.
I enjoy learning from you a great deal but the background music is too loud over your voice and very distracting. The focus should be on your instruction. Is the music really needed when you are simultaneously instructing your viewers?
I have found the BEST Teacher!!! Thank you for the detailed sketch and fantastic explanations!!!! And the model is a pro!! It is remarkable that she can maintain her pose for that long.
I looked at the woman’s face and thought Is my tv moving a little bit, so I moved forward to have a closer look and then she blinked. She’s not a picture! Can you be;ieve that for 34+ minutes her neck and back are killing her as well as the very probable nose itch!
The sitter did a great job holding the pose, I thought it was a still reference until she blinked.
Megan :)
Muy bueno
Yeah, I thought it’s a picture! 🤭😁
It's when she blinked that I lost all respect for her as a reference! J/K :)
it was a loop
I've been watching this many times but didn't know that the model is live I thought it's a picture.. The best model

Beautiful illustration- i am inspired to try it out - thank you so much 💕
Took me ages to realise the video of Meghan is a loop.
look at her, you need google maps just to get out of those eyes.
I spent more time looking at Meghan than the drawing. She is a classical beauty.
Wonderful videos. The music was distracting, competed with your voice. Your English and instruction/teaching is very clear. thank you
The music is detracting when you are narrating.
Fantastic model...love her bone structure and strong features.
I was shookt when the model blinks haha I thought that was a picture lol.

She’s a beauty. The drawing too. Love your amazing technique. Learned so much.
Outstanding video. The most important part of a portrait. It’s difficult to find such good information on the lay in. Thanks!

Fantástico, me ha encantado poder escuchar sus comentarios, aunque he tenido que leerlos traducidos, :-) :-) Muchas gracias Maestro.

Thank you so much teacher

Wow does your process includes hypnosis as well to produce maximum calm?
The paper is branded as "Ingres" named after the French artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (not Ingress)... for anyone shopping for this stuff.
I REALLY LOVE WATCHING YOU DRAW. TRULY. YET THE BACKGROUND MUSIC MAKES ME SLEEP BEFORE YOU COULD EVEN START TO DRAW.
