  • Thanks to one of my Patreon members for the suggestion, we are going to run several gold rings, silver rings, bracelets etc. over the Minelab Manticore search coil to see where gold rings up on the Target ID scale. If you weren't digging those low numbers, you might want to after seeing this video. Enjoy.

    I just hunt in beaches, using the same settings in my Manticore: sensibility between 18 and 23, Beach Surf and saltwater, recovery speed of 5, and ground balance in auto. 8 of 10 gold rings I found fall in IDs below 26, nome of them weights more than 3 grams. What really baffled me was your 18k white gold ring that always marks 28-29, exactly the ID of pull tabs that infested the beaches here. When I stopped to dig those signals, my good findings skyrocketed, but now I are wandering how much of those signals wasn’t pull tabs…

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yep you probably left some gold but its tough. Those pull tabs are just hard to get around.

  • @strongsound4819

    Also something worth noting is when you're an all-terrain general you've got the first five numbers discriminated out and will miss some small gold completely. Your gold bracelet probably would have sounded better with that discrimination off.

    My Explorer SE pro would show low VDI numbers but the tone would be high. Thats when i knew it was gold ring. Is there settings tweaks you can do on a Manticore to enhance the tone to make it stand out from pull tabs?

  • @Mdavis13573
    @Mdavis13573 11 месяцев назад +2

    Question: (I am new to the Manticore and to your channel).
    Normally, something coming in so low in number (such as the gold ring around a 12), I would not dig. And even though it wasn’t mentioned, it came in solid on the 2D display, right on the line in fact.
    Would you use the 2D display to determine if you dig it or not or just go ahead and dig it anyway?
    Thx for the great video.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  11 месяцев назад +1

      I rarely look at the 2D map now that I am comfortable with the machine. You have to dig those low numbers on the beach, you will find that they could be bracelets but most of the time they will sound broken up so you have to dig some of those. Thank you for the sub!

    Just bought a Manticore. Maybe this is a dumb questions, but if Beach General picks up gold better, why not run in that program even if your NOT on the beach? Would this program not be good looking for deep silver coins in a park setting?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  9 месяцев назад +1

      The beach programs are setup for the salt mineralization, your ground balance will be way different on the beach vs normal ground conditions. It may seem to work ok on normal ground but I think I would stay in one of the other search programs vs using the beach programs.

      So does a small piece of foil sound different than a small gold nugget? (manticore) To me, sounds the same. (Enhanced/5 tone) I hear guys say that tho.. It sounded different. Well, I can put two a few feet apart, and they sound the exact same. Sound seems different with size.. (A small gold nugget sounds different than a larger one) But I can’t pick out a different sound. What settings are you running? Advice? This detector drives me nuts with gold. It finds it, it just reads like every piece of junk commonly found.

    • @JohnGarnerIII

      @neilf8498 to me, foil has sn almost "analog tape or record" kind of warmth to it while precious metals sound sharp or "digital", to me.

    So 22lr cases, pull tabs, and foil. LOTS of foil. Oh, and gold…🤯 If you have to dig literally EVERYTHING, what’s the point of target ID’s? I experienced this before watching this, as I own a manticore. This has been the most disappointing aspect of the manticore. This is a high conductor machine. It will find gold, just plan on a LOT of trash. I would’ve expected better.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know, I think you can pick a lot of the trash out by knowing the sounds paired up with what the screen presents you.

    • @neilf8498
      @neilf8498 4 месяца назад

      Different soils the exact same pull tab rings up slightly different. A 22 case 20 feet in another direction, gives a different #. So, could be gold, or.. I’m not nearly as experienced as you with detectors. I own a Gold Monster and got a manticore two months after release. So, my experience is limited.. Coming from a new, but fairly active Detectorist, that is my biggest complaint. Hell, was in SW Mt last weekend looking for nuggets, I always carry a small nugget to read in the soil I’m hunting in. It read 3-5 and showed it as iron. No sound, just the blip on the 2D and numbers. (General low conductor and Beach low conductors, think it did the same in goldfield) Some places it reads as non ferrous, others my gold nugget is iron. 🤔 The only consistency with this detector seems to be with silver.. It will scream when it finds silver.. IDK. Maybe my expectations were/are too high. I wish a guy like you was around to teach guys like me! That’s for certain!

      It is the same with all metal detectors, gold comes in at all the same vdi’s as trash. I found a 10 k ring this week that rang up at 13 on the manticore. It is just part of detecting, if you want gold you dig pull tabs and foil.
