Fun fact: If each run takes exactly 3 minutes and they went straight into another one, someone could do 20 runs in an hour. Considering how all runs took at least a little over that and there would be delay in restarting, subtract a few. Now plug that into how many runs this guy did. Way over 400 hours worth of effort gone into this.

Most runs will be reset in the first 15 seconds, before you even get in the train. One mistake kills a run. The hardest trick seems to be in the first 5 seconds, and you'll get good at resetting pretty quick. If we assume 15 seconds per run+reset, it's probably closer to 240 runs per hour. Looks like about 50k runs total, so about 200 hours of attempts - but usually about 75% of your time is practice, so probably close to 800 hours total.
No, because that's only including successful runs.

This is making me even more hyped for when chapter 3 comes out because not only does it seem like its gonna be a pretty fun game (hopefully), but now think of the freaking speed runs man. Imagine chapter 3 having even a fraction of the community for speed running that this franchise has (especially chapter 1 in particular)

The only possible way of any other minute barrier being broken is if the poppy speech is somehow skipped, which is extremely unlikely, but, we're talking about speedrunners, maybe it could be possible.
My favorite part about this video is how pop offs break the language barrier

Not gonna lie. Despite how mindbreaking it is, there technically must be some little optimisations here and there that perhaps TAS could overcome, though maybe there will be a madman who'd do it.

This guy spent at least 2000 hours doing this assuming every reset is 3.12 minutes (3:05) not including the additional 8k resets (400ish hrs)

Why does the timer stop when pausing the game? Isn't that like stopping during a 100m dash for a breather?
Don't get me wrong the effort this guy went to is amazing, I just don't understand how pausing the timer counts.
Most speedrun timers are set to automatically pause when in the menu because it only counts in game time rather than real life time. From my understanding this is generally accepted in the speedrunning community. But I really only watch speedrunners I don't do it myself!
most speed runs are based on in-game time, mostly so loading screens don't count, as that would put runners with lower end PCs at even more of a disadvantage.

It's kind of weird that pausing doesn't count as time here. Usually if anyone is doing any loading screen/menu glitching (such as in sonic rise of lyric knuckles jump bug), the time would still count despite pausing.
I think speedruns should include pause times. If you did this infront of people, it wouldn't be a sub 3 minute speedrun, as they were doing the run for the audience longer than 3 minutes. So pretty meh tbh
