The fact that colon doesn't force himself to have a steady upload schedule is a big deal to me. It means he doesn't do RUclips for views or money like big corporate cash grab channels. He puts honest effort in his videos which shows he actually enjoys making videos which adds a genuine sparkle to his vids. Every time i open RUclips and i see a colon vid, i immediately get excited and stay excited watching the video. Thats why colon is my favorite RUclipsr on the platform.
The reason some of the portals were upside down was to hide the particles they emit. If they were the correct way around, you’d be able to see the particles from the main path and realize that there was something there. (This would make these coins 50x more interesting btw, why didn’t Rob do this)
Something I really like about Electroman Adventure's coins is that if you miss the first coin, the early placement of the second coin becomes a hint about the first coin being there
@@minhharry1312That's the thing. If you DO complete the level, you might think "hmm where's the last coin?" because only 2 showed up in the level in the regular path.
Rating and Info 2:33 1. Stereo Madness 1st Coin: The first secret coin is located at 50% and collected as the cube. After the first ship sequence, jump twice up the first two columns, slide through a gap in the third column and jump again to collect the coin, or alternatively, jump thrice up the first three columns and slide down under the fourth column. 2:59 2nd Coin: The second secret coin is located at 74% and collected as the cube. After travelling upon four adjacent narrow platforms, jump four times up onto a line of descending blocks and jump off the second to last block to collect the coin, clearing a short spike upon return to the main route. 3:21 3rd Coin: The third secret coin is located at 98% and collected as the ship. After beginning the second ship sequence, pass the first pair of obstacles before entering a small crevice missing a block by the second ceiling obstacle. The background will turn red and the grid will shift to reveal a narrow alternate passage with close-contained spikes. Passing through it will lead to the third coin at the level's end. 3:39 2. Back on Track 1st Coin: The first secret coin is located at 41% and collected as the cube. After descending a short flight of platforms, jumping onto a series of connected platforms with a spike on one, jump twice up two more platforms before sliding to the ground onto a concealed gravity pad that will launch into the coin and then a gravity portal, returning to the main route. 4:02 2nd Coin: The second secret coin is located at 55% and collected as the ship. Manoeuvre around the first two obstacles and fly into a gap in the third obstacle to collect the coin within. 4:26 3rd Coin: The third secret coin is located at 84% and collected as the cube. After passing through three block columns and travelling along three series of connected platforms, jump twice up two more narrow platforms before sliding onto a concealed line platform below the main route. Jump over a gap onto the second line platform to collect the coin and reach a jump pad to return, immediately jumping again to clear an oncoming spike upon landing. 4:51 Polargeist 1st Coin: The first secret coin is located at 44% and collected as the ship. Fly close to the ceiling while avoiding suspended blocks as the coin must be approached from above being shielded by a group of blocks below it. Descend upon collecting the coin to clear an oncoming block. 5:10 2nd Coin: The second secret coin is located at 63% and collected as the cube. After sliding down a series of columns, begin jumping up a series of platforms and slide off the fourth platform to land on a brief line platform. Immediately jump again onto another line platform and through an exposed section of the approaching column with a jump pad that will launch into the coin and back onto the main route from a jump ring. 5:22 3rd Coin: The third secret coin is located at 77% and collected as the cube. After passing beneath overhead spikes, precisely jump to clear an oncoming spike as early as possible to hit a concealed gravity pad beside the platform. After being launched into a gravity portal, hit a jump ring to collect the coin and return to the ground, jumping immediately onto another jump ring to clear spikes.

11:35 this had only recently crossed my mind, but maybe the reason that it’s so common for the earlier edited coins to use new mechanics is because they were made with the expectation that players would continue beating levels one after the other, and then go back for the coins. With that logic, it makes more sense why robtop put in un-introduced mechanics for old coins when they weren’t necessary
but the coins are still part of the level? I don't really see how that makes sense, and especially for people who get all coins on a level before moving on. like, if a level is centered around a certain mechanic, then it would make sense to have the coins fit in.
21:20 use the coin as a visual cue. aim for its center and click again when youre in the middle. its actually very consistent imo, there isnt that big of an urge to make the outlines more visible
The most i would change is make the 2 fake spikes surrounding each exit a different colour so you get the general idea as to where to let go. That's literallly the most i could think of such coin
Electorman coin 1 is by far my fav coin. I was like, “hey, can’t u just go up” and I thought it was a skip for the level, and finding out it was a coin is one of the most iconic moments I’ve had in this game.
I personally think that your 100% correct your tier list is really relatable because it has the actual rankings that the coins deserve keep up the great work
I don’t know why but I always liked the blind fall secret coins it adds an element of “oh wow I cleared this stage but I didn’t see any coins” giving me motivation to replay the level and search for the coin as if it’s a mystery
indeed. It encourages you to try your best to mess with the gameplay's flaws of falling off-path. I still think the Base After Base one is shit, but the one in Can't Let Go where you have to fall between a spike and a platform is a really nice gimmick. Would put it in C tier
Yeah I think this is an important point, but often the actual solution for the coin is just lazy. Coins like Electroman 1 do it really well, but others like (old) Press Start 2 not so much
@@GDColon I feel like the more objects are in a level, the worse is a hidden coin that has no good hinting towards it, because you have to question every obstacle's hitbox and try going through it
As a response to 0:16, I would like to say that I, for one, love watching these videos because they critically tackle difficult topics in game design. Being a game developer, I find the information you provide in your videos tremendously helpful. You're like the Ceave Gaming of Geometry Dash. That's why I, and probably many others, enjoy these videos. That and they're just hilarious and entertaining.
Fun fact: The second coin in Clutterfunk can be grabbed by performing a precise swoop after touching the reverse gravity portal. I found that out on accident when I beated Clutterfunk for the first time.
I love the fact that it is called a secret coin, despite the fact they are usually visible, albeit often harder to collect than the main path. Same with jump pads, as there are also ones the switch gravity.
@@GDColon when i started playing gd back in 2014 i noticed the first coin in dry out because j saw the yellow jump pad and then intenionally died at the first platform to see what was there and then i noticet the coin i would give it an A+ rating because it'well hidden and u get that rewarding feeling when u find when to drop the first time. That was the only thing I didn't like in ur list, love the effort that u put in ur videos.❤
This is 10 months old, but I would still like to add that they may not be called "Secret" because their gimmick is that they are supposed to be hidden, but rather the path to collect them is the one that's hidden.
My favourite secret coin is definitely the 3rd one in Cycles - it's super satisfying to collect and I wish that more user made coins would be like that.
The first coin in Electroman Adventures is probably my favourite of all the coins, because its hidden well, and the slight hint that it gives you is so simple yet difficult at the same time, and my favourite part about the coin, is when you're jumping up to get the coin, even if you miss the orb, you are still on track as you only get dropped off to the regular path.
@@meredithmayeux3731 I think the first one is very good, but I agree the other ones are just either bad or too easy. Which annoys me because this is my favourite level, probably my favourite soundtrack in the game tied with Can't let go and Deadlocked. The second coin is my least favourite, you know why? Because of the goddamn hitboxes, it is so stupid to get and so unpredictable, the third one is easier than the normal path, so that can't be any good either.
You can tell the difference between experienced players and players like me- i was raging at some of the coins you put in s because they were so difficult. I also love unused mechanics in coins, gives feel of mystery and skipping ahead for the challenge. I also just love memory coins and portal recoveries, so we’re practically the complete opposite haha
I actually think the point of the upside down portals in the hidden paths are to hide the particles that come out from the side, which funnily enough wouldve fixed the issue of not being able to tell that the coin existed
Finally. After 1 month. I can finally watch some GD Cologne. This video has truly been a blessing, Without GD Cologne contents, I would cease to exist. Thank you.
I have a small issue with colons coin logic, which is that sometimes, you are supposed to look for the coin. It is helpful to have a small hint because you don't want it to be hidden in a pit that looks like any other pit, or behind a wall that looks like any other wall. Take the last coin in stereo madness for example. That is definitely the kind of thing I like to see when it comes to secret coins. An alternate way to do this is to have the coin visible but look impossible or very hard to get, until you find the hint for how you can get it. Take every fake wall coin for example. The reason why the first 2 coins of power trip were really bad with this, is because they had NO HINT that the coin was possible to collect. Also, some of these are just too easy, like the first one in Back on Track, or The Seven Seas,
I think the reason of why the portals are flipped on the opposite direction is that they produce particles, they have an animation for that, so RobTop decided to flip them in order to hide de portals in a better way, he really wanted this coins to not be discovered easily.
One thing to note about the first coin in Hexagon Force: if you flip just before the pad to get you back on the main path, you actually can go up to the blocks above, while still collecting the coin. (But if you do it too early, you won't collect the coin at all) This alone doesn't change much, but imagine how good this coin would be if it were the only way to get it!
In defense of the 2nd hexagon force coin, the recovery is not as easy as it seems. Years ago when I was trying the level for the first time, I found myself dying to the slopes after the coin way more often when I took it. Maybe the hard part is precisely that, stabilizing your ship after the coin (stability that is de facto given to you if you don't go for the coin) rather than the act of taking it.

The middle base after base coin deserves higher because of the music sync. Right when there is a weird part in the music that hasn’t came up before is when you have to go off of the path for the coin, which is a good indication of where it is
Ok, actually for 8-1, that coin is pretty good if you consider the fact that new players don't know that you have space to jump and avoid dying from the spike. Trust me on this one.
As a new player, I 100% agree with this one. It feels like it is impossible and you have to time the jump a little bit so it's not free. Also the jump is pretty cool, A- from me.
But this coin located at the start of the level, so I agree with the C Tier. I think it would be more justified if the coin was placed towards the end of level, I would give between A or B Tier.
@@BîgbôiGD Yeah, but I think not many people would realize about that because a lot of player will focus on the gameplay and also the vibration of the wall is too low. I think the vibration of the walls needs to be improved, so it can be more helpful.
For the Polargeist coin I actually collected it on accident - I was playing the game when I accidentally jumped ‘too early’ - I felt a terrible lurch in my stomach when suddenly a bounce pad launched me up and I somehow instinctively caught the orb and came down. The coin in Base after Base (second) was also done by accident because I clicked also a little ‘too early’ and fit right through the gap.

I think, for the first coin in ToE, the fake wall adds variety to the visuals, it looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing than if it were just three sawblades
Coin 1 of dry out at 6:40 is actually a coin I have history with. When I was newer to the game I super buffed a ton of the main levels with an entire focus on hitbox and timing tech. The coin path was so boring and hard to work with I decided to swap the main path and the coin path since you can actually place flattened short-spikes on the singular top platforms and just barely be able to make the jumps from the double platforms if you land on the back edge of the platform. It was so difficult in comparison to the coin path I came up with (and the rest of the level) and the decision to change the two probably ended up making the most interesting coin I've ever added to a level.
@@HNfilms hey man, I appreciate your opinion, but I'm struggling to find who asked. I was notified which used to mean it was a direct reply to me, but I have no clue if it still works like that.)
One thing that I have noticed about falling coins is that (mostly) you fall off the second platform, which I think is pretty cool. It is pretty consistent, and I enjoy finding them. This is coming from a more casual player.
Note: When I was beating Fingerdash, I didn't even collect the mini-coins for the third coin, and, when I finished the wave, I stayed on the bottom, AND COLLECTED THE COIN.
Mandela effect: There is a 4th coin in Stereo Madness that everyone forgets. About when you are 121% through the level, you have to touch a special Spider-Orb that adds a little bit of Swing Copter gameplay. Crazy how everyone forgot about it.
base after base no.2 can be fixed rather easily. I always found that jump really cool, it's interesting in a way like polargeist no.3. The yellow portal should just be visible (moved up) and then add some extra gameplay under the regular path before you come back to the main one
I'm glad someone agrees with me about the unintroduced aspects worming their way into the pre-Electroman Adventure Levels. What I was thinking is utilizing those secret mechanics so they don't feel like an afterthought. Such as in Poltergeist or Back on Track. That would give them value and foreshadow those mechanics for people who accidentally stumble upon them their first time.
It definitely felt like you noticeably docked lots of points for things like use of unintroduced blue pads and unintroduced portals and blind jumps in every case EXCEPT Polargeist coin 3. I can understand not putting it in F if you enjoyed the tech used to time the input, but putting it as high as B really makes it seem like you're deliberately overranking it due to the anticipated community response.
In all honesty I totally forgot about the blue pad being unintroduced, probably because of how small of a role it plays compared to the full coin route. But that's a really good point!

Hey, about the first coin in dry out: you actually can see the jump pad from the normal route making it less random and so you know that a coin exists there and after 3-4 practice attempts it becomes obvious where you need to fall.
Fun Fact: Clutterfunk’s second coin, Jumper’s first coin, and Cant Let Go’s third coin can all be collected “incorrectly”: going around the other way and grabbing them. This video reminded me of a trilogy of challenges that I made at some point involving exactly that, so I went and uploaded them. They’re called “Get The Coin”, “Get The Coin II” and “Get The Coin III” respectively if for whatever reason anyone here wants to try them out.
I was thinking about, if I DID want to make a level, I'll just use some hidden, but not too hidden portals, where there is a completely different and harder path, but that really isn't a pure coin. It also just feels really cheap, so the best thing to do is to play with your existing layout, and see what you can change. I know I'm writing the exact things you said, I'm just writing this to make it clearer for myself, and potentially for others.
This video was really good!! It's so cool to hear about other people's opinions on stuff in the game, and I found this to be really interesting. i still think it's insane how Rob actually updated the coins in SubZero after your video. I think the second coin in base after base is better than F for the same reason as Theory of Everything's last coin. The spike wall that's under the main path could serve to notify the player that "hey, there's a path here."
@@jakeb_playz7079 Not exactly, I feel like the hint of there being a path in that direction is a tad too subtle, so I'd still give it a D or something.
Is it just me who finds the recovery super interesting? Maybe some extra gameplay could have been there so it isn't that boring. Also I found it by accident on my 1st play through of the level, so I don't know if it's well hidden.
Technically, the 2nd coin of Base After Base has that little mace thing that might just give you a hint that there's a coin, but it might just feel like a normal obstacle, so okay I get it. Edit: The 2nd Clubstep coin is slightly harder than the normal route. The spikes are placed more "densely" together.
So I didn't expect this to happen. I just posted this cause I thought it was an absolute gem and suddenly out of nowhere Colon hearts my post. Anywho yea, thanks GD Cologne!
10:54 So I remember back when I played for the first time GD, I had no idea how to get the first coin of Time Machine. I even looked for a coin guide in youtube. I was completely sure there had to be a secret route previously that then sent you flying and then downwards to the coin. I don't understand how I didn't even think about jumping there for so long hahahhaa
Not sure why I just fished this out of my brain, but I vividly remember when I was about 7 or so something strange. We were at some event in Mexico or someplace I don’t remember they just spoke Spanish. We were at a DJ event and I remember the DJ playing XSTEP (yes the edited gd version), and even putting the level’s banner from the actual game on the projector. It was so weird to me, especially after just beating XStep on my mom’s phone. I have had this recurring memory every time I have done or watched something GD related, especially with XStep. I cant describe it.
I got the third polargeist coin first try. In fact I didn’t even know there was a coin there and I thought I was gonna die but I tapped the orb and got it
Generally agree, and I love seeing videos that talk about the actual game design and not just critique the visuals of custom levels. Here are a few notes: Base After Base, coin 2: I’ve always liked this coin because I felt super cool when I found it; it makes good use of the thin platforms, it makes you want to see what happens if you drop in that opening. Plus, the recovery is super cool to watch, and it syncs perfectly with the music. It’s a B for me. Time Machine, coin 1: For me it was actually really hard, so I would give it a C. Electroman Adventures coin 3: Wait, there’s a main path? Clubstep coin 1: Wait, there’s a main path? Hexagon Force coin 1: It’s exactly where it needs to be, the high speed and the slopes make it very dynamic and very fun to collect in its simplicity. It’s a B. Hexagon Force, coin 2 and 3: As much as I love this level to death, I have to admit they’re pretty lazy coins. Viking Arena coin 1, Airborne Robots coins 1 and 3, Power Trip coin 2: F tier, change my mind. They involve invisible objects. I just hate objects with alpha in general, especially gameplay ones. The little pulses they leave when you pass through them, they feel so unnatural and are so incredibly ugly. I hate these even more because they’re in main levels, that are supposed to teach not only how to play, but also how to design and create levels, and they’re such a bad example of the alpha trigger. Power Trip coin 3: It’s in IDK tier. This level is so awkward that I don’t even know. It’s bad, but in a way that fits the rest of the level, that it almost makes it good? Ugh, I don’t know. Good work Colon, every time it’s a pleasure to watch!

The reason some of the portals were upside down was to hide the particles they emit. If they were the correct way around, you’d be able to see the particles from the main path and realize that there was something there.
(This would make these coins 50x more interesting btw, why didn’t Rob do this)
makes sense now. thank you.
Something I really like about Electroman Adventure's coins is that if you miss the first coin, the early placement of the second coin becomes a hint about the first coin being there
but if the player doesn't complete the level, they can't know that the early ship coin is the 2nd coin anyway
@minhharry1312 Yeah excatly, if the complete and realize that they miss the coin so they will find it again and get it.
@@minhharry1312That's the thing. If you DO complete the level, you might think "hmm where's the last coin?" because only 2 showed up in the level in the regular path.
It does show the order of the coins, so if they get the 2nd and 3rd coins, they will see that they only got the 2nd and 3rd coins.

1. Stereo Madness
1st Coin: The first secret coin is located at 50% and collected as the cube. After the first ship sequence, jump twice up the first two columns, slide through a gap in the third column and jump again to collect the coin, or alternatively, jump thrice up the first three columns and slide down under the fourth column.
2:59
2nd Coin: The second secret coin is located at 74% and collected as the cube. After travelling upon four adjacent narrow platforms, jump four times up onto a line of descending blocks and jump off the second to last block to collect the coin, clearing a short spike upon return to the main route.
3:21
3rd Coin: The third secret coin is located at 98% and collected as the ship.
3:39
2. Back on Track
1st Coin: The first secret coin is located at 41% and collected as the cube. After descending a short flight of platforms, jumping onto a series of connected platforms with a spike on one, jump twice up two more platforms before sliding to the ground onto a concealed gravity pad that will launch into the coin and then a gravity portal, returning to the main route.
4:02
2nd Coin: The second secret coin is located at 55% and collected as the ship. Manoeuvre around the first two obstacles and fly into a gap in the third obstacle to collect the coin within.
4:26
3rd Coin: The third secret coin is located at 84% and collected as the cube.
4:51
Polargeist
1st Coin: The first secret coin is located at 44% and collected as the ship. Fly close to the ceiling while avoiding suspended blocks as the coin must be approached from above being shielded by a group of blocks below it. Descend upon collecting the coin to clear an oncoming block.
5:10
2nd Coin: The second secret coin is located at 63% and collected as the cube. After sliding down a series of columns, begin jumping up a series of platforms and slide off the fourth platform to land on a brief line platform. Immediately jump again onto another line platform and through an exposed section of the approaching column with a jump pad that will launch into the coin and back onto the main route from a jump ring.
5:22
3rd Coin: The third secret coin is located at 77% and collected as the cube.

Based Aile from ZXA pfp
i was thinking that too lol
but the coins are still part of the level? I don't really see how that makes sense, and especially for people who get all coins on a level before moving on.
like, if a level is centered around a certain mechanic, then it would make sense to have the coins fit in.
Hi
That's exactly what I did
21:20 use the coin as a visual cue. aim for its center and click again when youre in the middle. its actually very consistent imo, there isnt that big of an urge to make the outlines more visible
To be honest I would just make it completely invisible 😈
The most i would change is make the 2 fake spikes surrounding each exit a different colour so you get the general idea as to where to let go. That's literallly the most i could think of such coin

Would put it in C tier
half of these coins encourage you to fail the level just to brute force a coin , it's annoying and truly just really boring

"Secret"
In my opinion all of the coins in Electroman Adventures SUCK.
Wait, the secret coin on back on track is TOO HARD.

Colon’s coin logic:
A secret coin kept hidden and secret: 👎
A secret coin that’s completely visible and not hidden: 👍
But why tho?

This is smart
One thing to note about the first coin in Hexagon Force: if you flip just before the pad to get you back on the main path, you actually can go up to the blocks above, while still collecting the coin. (But if you do it too early, you won't collect the coin at all) This alone doesn't change much, but imagine how good this coin would be if it were the only way to get it!
So true! Once I found that, I haven't done it the normal way since.
It would still be better if there were like two more 45° slopes under there
Hexagonforce I got all 3 coins while beating it

Ok, actually for 8-1, that coin is pretty good if you consider the fact that new players don't know that you have space to jump and avoid dying from the spike. Trust me on this one.
As a new player, I 100% agree with this one. It feels like it is impossible and you have to time the jump a little bit so it's not free. Also the jump is pretty cool, A- from me.

Hey, about the first coin in dry out: you actually can see the jump pad from the normal route making it less random and so you know that a coin exists there and after 3-4 practice attempts it becomes obvious where you need to fall.

XD
Fun Fact: Clutterfunk’s second coin, Jumper’s first coin, and Cant Let Go’s third coin can all be collected “incorrectly”: going around the other way and grabbing them. This video reminded me of a trilogy of challenges that I made at some point involving exactly that, so I went and uploaded them. They’re called “Get The Coin”, “Get The Coin II” and “Get The Coin III” respectively if for whatever reason anyone here wants to try them out.
Where did you upload them?
On my account; it’s called “3Kurt”
I was thinking about, if I DID want to make a level, I'll just use some hidden, but not too hidden portals, where there is a completely different and harder path, but that really isn't a pure coin.
It also just feels really cheap, so the best thing to do is to play with your existing layout, and see what you can change.
I know I'm writing the exact things you said, I'm just writing this to make it clearer for myself, and potentially for others.
Did you know the the first coin in Electroman Adventures is impossible after beating the level in practice? The breakable blocks do not work properly.

This video was really good!! It's so cool to hear about other people's opinions on stuff in the game, and I found this to be really interesting. i still think it's insane how Rob actually updated the coins in SubZero after your video. That's a historical moment in GD that we're likely to never forget. Great work as always, Colon!! 🧡
Also I was jamming to the Strawberry Jam Gym music lol. I was trying to remember where I had heard that song from, then it finally clicked afterwards
11:09 can’t believe you missed this but without the invisible ground / ceiling this one’s difficulty would be insanely hard and not fun.
There's actually no invisible blocks, the hitbox of the corner/side blocks are just the same as full blocks
@@yzguysie198 oh. that's very misleading then, they should just be 3 sides instead of 2.
and what about the middle one where there's no blocks? the ship still goes perfectly straight without moving, or is it impossible to die on a one block gap like that
@@theAstarrr the blocks in the middle are a full block hitbox as well.

Definitely the most intense coin back in the day. But with it nerfed I’ll say Clutterfunk 1 or TOE’s 2nd coin
I think the second coin in base after base is better than F for the same reason as Theory of Everything's last coin. The spike wall that's under the main path could serve to notify the player that "hey, there's a path here."
So, you rate it an A- I guess?

It's because when you are a kid those spikes stand out more, so you don't ponder the possibility

9:40 So relatable because I died, like, 5 times because that pink jump pad confused me SO much

Generally agree, and I love seeing videos that talk about the actual game design and not just critique the visuals of custom levels. Here are a few notes:
Base After Base, coin 2: I’ve always liked this coin because I felt super cool when I found it; it makes good use of the thin platforms, it makes you want to see what happens if you drop in that opening.
