#LeicaSL #Lumix - Кино
What are your predictions? Will the Leica be worth its price point, or will the differences between Lumix and Leica be less than expected overall ?
It will depend on how much someone is willing to pay for certain specs. And let's be honest... the Leica does look very good :)
However, I don't think there is a camera that beats the s5II in terms of value for money.
I might be wrong but I’ve always seen Leica as a high end enthusiast camera instead of a use every day chuck in the bag tool for everyday work. A bit like having a Porsche just for the weekends 😂 would love one though!!
Can’t wait for S1Rii 👀
thats the one that i would prefer
I had a SL2S before moving to the SL3 and have a S5II
I prefer Leica for stills and the S5II for more action video stuff.
Leica RAW files are cleaner than Panasonic, but the real magic of the SL cameras are the APO lenses.
the leica apo lenses are in a league of their own. i owned the SL 50 summilux, 24-90mm, SL 16-35mm, SL 90-280mm and the SL 35mm apo. i owned the sl2-s and the sl2 of the two the sl2 was my favorite., I sold everything unfortunately and moved the nikon z9 for far better autofocus accuracy and the haselblad x2d. If anything it's the lenses that i miss the most. The autofocus of the cameras were frustrating. but if you do not shoot action related subjects leica. I must say though that the hasseblad x2d is absolutely glorious! Enjoy your purchase!
The colours are truly remarkable. Have you edited the pictures much Josh? I must say, i really like the content you are putting in. I'm a Lumix S5 and S5II shooter myself from not that long ago, so i binge watch almost all that has been out out about the system in a recent weeks. Keep up, and thank you!
Stoked for these series! The Leica SL2S is such a great hybrid cam.
Had a similar experience when I picked up a used SL a few years back to complement my S1 and S1R. Just sold it for almost what I paid for it. I found the SL a delight to shoot with and loved the build. The only difference I could find image wise was that the SL worked better with adapted M lenses. Seems like the microlenses on the SL are optimized for that purpose. I imagine this would have been carried over to the SL2. Otherwise, couldn't tell much difference in raw files with L-mount lenses (Sigma, Lumix and Leica). Very much looking forward to hearing your experience.
I use both brands and this is exciting to see someone do a review like this.
How can the camera by more modern and more retro at the same time 🤯, it’s gorgeous!
I love that you’re testing lumix vs Leica ! I just picked up an SL3 and wow the image quality out of that even with Lumix lenses is fantastic! I’m a Sony shooter here and use an A1 and A74 but will admit my files definitely look better even in lowlight. If you get a chance to check out the new SL3 I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the capabilities of that camera!
The sensor in the S1 is the same as the one in the original SL type 601. A 24MP FSI CMOS sensor. The sensor in the SL2-S is a newer one. A 24MP BSI (back-side illuminated) CMOS sensor. The difference is the better low-light/high-ISO performance of the SL2-S. The S1R and the SL2 both have the same sensor (47MP FSI CMOS). However, Lumix and Leica have different processors and therefore not only a different OS/menu system, but also a very different handling and look of RAW/DNG and JPEG files.
The SL2-S is really my favourite of the bunch. The S1 and S1R are very good value for money, but the SL2-S for me is next level. I’ve done outdoor available light shoots for a fashion editorial and even at ISO12.500 the files are clean. At ISO25.000 they still very useable for publishing. I’ve swapped both my SL2 for the new SL3, but the SL2-S isn’t going anywhere for now.
The S1/S5/S1H all use the same IMX410 BSI sensor made by Sony Semiconductors, this is true with the S5ii/X as well with the phase detection array added. The S1H just has an OLPF in front of that sensor. The Nikon Z6/ii, Sony FX9, A7iii, ZCam E2-F6/Pro, Kinefinity are also users of that sensor. I don't know enough about the Leica but I can confirm it for the other ones I mentioned
@@alihammad6318 according Panasonic’s own sales information kit (dated 2019), the S1 has a front-side illuminated sensor (FSI) and not a BSI. Pixel pitch, output gain and input clock frequency is also indicating it’s not a Sony sensor, but an older one from STMicroelectronics. They also make the 47MP used by Panasonic and Leica. To my knowledge they stopped producing image sensors 2 years ago. The S5 and others have indeed the IMX410 sensor from Sony.
Leica is definitely a good buy used. A lot of Leica digital owners wouldn't be seen dead with an old model, opening up the field for serious users of their cast-offs.
i love my sl2s… i love my r5
Nice Josh! Looking forward to the video's!
Oh, thanks for this. I'll be interested to see what you find out. It's not like it's something I really needed to know as I doubt I'll ever consider buying a Leica - too pricey - but I expect you'll find out what you outlined or hinted at in this first video: no difference that would justify the price difference from Lumix, but the cool 'je-ne-sais-quoi' factor that might stem purely from self-persuasion that will make you a better or more confident photographer.
i love the SL line (as a LUMIX shooter) but i wish they made like a cheaper stripped down smaller version of an SL with an L-Mount
Really looking forward to this series. I watch all the videos from Leica enthusiasts with a lot of skepticism, especially since I have nothing to compare it against. Comparing it to such a known quantity will be very useful to Panasonic owners who've been giving Leica a little side-eye.
It’s a very good time to get an SL2 or SL2-s, with the 3 announced. I’ve had both, and sold my SL2 for the S. The low light performance is inadequate on the SL2 and more than acceptable on the S. The real joy is actually mounting vintage lenses on new Leica bodies, something that I really enjoy now.
By the way, once you get used to the Leica menu, *nothing* else will do it for you! :)
How does the stabilization compare between the SL2S vs S5II? And SL3 if you have experienced. Thanks
Very interesting, Josh. I would love to get an SL2-S besides my Lumix. I think the SL2 series are becoming the most interesting “budget” option at Leica with the L-Mount. I am especially interested in the video specs of the S - how does it compare to the S1H, how is the performance (overheating with the fix screen?) and how well does it work together with an external Raw recorder?
You know how hard he worked for this leica you can see a scar on his mouth.
😂😂😂 the story of that mark is actually way more embarrassing. I ate a hot jam filled doughnut and the jam literally burned my skin… luckily it’s healed over now though!
Good that you are better now, Loved your videos cause you are the only few that made lumix videos before they switch to PDAF. Keep up the good work!! @@JoshCameron
Ouh congrats on the Leica! Look forward to the tests you're gonna do, I can confirm that I think you're 20% cooler now.
I have literally just been having this debate about the Lumix LX100 and the Leica D-Lux 7, the LX100 II has so many more improvements over the D-Lux, but the D-Lux looks soooo pretty 🤣
Enjoy your Leica Josh! Looking forward to hear your term thoughts
Glad someone is getting to the bottom of this. Happy S5 user interested by an SL body myself.
Do many people use leica for fast moving professional work or mostly just for landscapes and portraits?
I shall be watching this one for sure! Because I need an excuse to buy another camera body 😁
recently found out that Leica SL2 and the Lumix S1R have the same sensor and hardware. In a year or two this camera's sensor will probably be what the S5R will have. Lecia's cool and all but honestly I'd rather take a more ergonomic body and price cut.
Why would anyone give you retail price for if if you were to sell it? Is supply that low?
Thought that was Roman Fox for a minute at 2:38 😂
Greetings From Germany 🤚Kamerad. Sehr schöne Kamera. Vielleicht kaufe ich mir auch später mal eine Leica. Wirklich sehr schönes Gerät. Viele Grüße aus Berlin
Not gonna lie I too have been tempted by an original Leica SL, knowing full well it would not compete with the S5 and S5ii I own on many important fronts.
Images look great, even though it is probably Josh talent. Great video!
Check my SL2 vs S1R videos in case you forget some drawbacks of the Leica 🤣
The SL2 series doesn’t make sense for 2,5 times the price of far more superior S1 series
Believe me I’m a Leica SL lens shooter but I shoot them on mimic cameras
Wouldn't a more direct comparison be to the Sl3?
Yeah, but I can hammer nails with my SL...🙂
The most expensive hammer ever ;)
Commerciall cliche ..you pay i say ❤
What do you mean?
tienes un gato?
