And it also helps us appreciate the animals even more, which is another reason he gave for why he doesn't try to show off with the animals. I think his style actually contributes to why they're so calm since he's focusing on the animal's comfort rather than focusing on how cool he looks on camera.

Kevin!! I hope you are doing alright!! I've picked up on the comments you make here and there. You seem like a very kind, genuine, highly educated, person and this world can certainly be cruel!! People such as yourself, remind many of us how decent people can be!! But it can take a personal toll!! The world can be beautiful as well, and I hope you have a network of friends and family that help you remember that!! Hugs from Waxahachie Texas!!

Even if you have years of experience and work with 'deadly' animals, they can still surprise you. Its also easy to get complacent - especially if you have years of experience without 'incident'. Even if you think you know the animals, the way they 'generally' behave etc, you never really know whether that animal will switch, especially if its not feeling 'well'.
Its also different if you are dealing with 'wild' animals as you don't know the personality. I bet you wouldn't stroke a 'wild' Gaboon like you do yours - because of that. I have utmost respect for Venomous Snake Rescuers who deal with wild, more unpredictable Snakes that are going to be 'generally' more defensive than captive bred

Such an important reminder here. That cobra got a really good bite on Chandlers finger and he is very lucky to be alive and well. He was also handling them like he does to his captive snakes which makes it so much easier for them to bite. There is NO way we have fast enough reflexes, even if u have been handling them for years. Hopefully this is a big lesson for everyone that works with venomous! Thanks Donny and Kevin, really important message here. 💜☮️💜

"Dad, What are you doing? Why am I flying? Can you put me down somewhere? Wait, Where's my Boyfriend? Do you have food? Or water?"
If I ever own hot snakes the top 5, in no particular order, are: Gaboon, Rhino, Eastern Green Mamba, Timber, or Diamondback, Rattlesnake, and Eyelash Pit Viper. I love Kings, and they are a "my size" snake, but the above list is more "manageable" for all intents and purposes.

      @carissaraeee7947 Год назад

Sunshineravens 🤣🤣🤣🤣💀 but I told him the same thing as some of you said, that getting a ball python would definitely change how he looks at snakes. He’s always afraid to get bit, but even if a ball python bite you, it’s not gonna hurt more than my toddler when she bites. So if he can handle a toddler bite, I’m sure he can handle a little noodle nibble. 🤭🤣 he does a lot of work for houses that are owned by banks, and every time he finds a little snake, he sends me a picture….. so I definitely think he is warming up. Because When I was pregnant, with my oldest, about nine years ago, I remember him killing a wild snake, and I cried so hard. I explain to him that that snake wanted nothing to do with him, and was just trying to run away. So now, he sends me a picture and relocates it! So, we are definitely making progress.

There is a lot of danger in getting complacent because you are very familiar with one animal (or possibly more than one). So you are fairly good at predicting their behaviour and what you can safely do and don't do with that specific animal. But that can let to forgetting that A. something unpredictable can always happen and B. that other animals you aren't familiar with may behave quite differently and are possibly not as chill with some things as yours is.
I am very fascinated by all snakes, but I have zero interest in ever handling one that has lethal venom.
That said I do have an animal that could potentially kill me, even on accident. No venom, but 500 kg of body mass (and some prey instincts you will never be able to get rid off completely) have quite a bit of potential for blunt force trauma.
I nearly got knocked out once because I stupidly put my head in front of my horses leg in the direct motion range of said leg to look at an injury. She thought I wanted to look at her hoof and lifted it up... hitting me in the side of the head with a joint (is it really called "knee" in english, because that's not the knee, it's the equivalent of your wrist...). It was very predictable and just very stupid of me. I have no need to add a lethally venomous snake to that forgetfulness.

Closest I came to a horse taking me out was fastening the butt rope behind a horse trailer. Second horse to load, walked right on. As I reached to snap the rope, the two horses smelled each other, one squealed & I felt a hoof at maximum speed pass between my arm & chest. Direct hit to the chest would have killed me, I weigh about 100#
That said, 8 years ago I got crushed under a low boy trailer & pulverized my left chest at 57 years of age. The Metal Granny yet rocks but only rides trail anymore.

Sorry Melissa, I don’t seem to get notifications when someone responds to my comment, so I didn’t even know you were trying to help me. But yes, now that I type in what you just wrote, I can get access to the website. But before, when I was having issues, it was saying something like “error in domain” or something along those lines, and it was just basically saying that the website wasn’t available but it’s working now! TYSM!

Did anyone else catch Kevin saying he doesn't want to be alive as it is. I used to have a gf who said that and she ended up taking her life. I take that serious now. I don't like when people say stuff like that.

I do agree that taking these kinds of things seriously is better than not taking them as such and then it’s too late to get them help. I also know that not everyone who says it intends to take their own life (such as myself, though admittedly, I used to) and just wants to vent their frustration/upset without being told they shouldn’t say that kind of thing if they’re not being serious because that could push someone over the edge if they were half-serious

Yup , use the snake hook if you don't want to see a Cobra hanging on your finger like a Pit Bull on a tire . 😃 Honestly , i wasn't surprised at all . Free handling is the snake version of Russian roulette . Click , click , click ... boom .

Can someone either link me a video or shed some light on this? Why breed the cobras? I get taking in a rescue from a bad situation or rehabilitation for these venomous snakes but i dont understand why you would breed them. Only a very small group of people can work with them, so it kinda seems like breeding them makes it easier for someone unqualified to get them. Maybe im missing something here, i mean no hate at all just trying to understand. I really respect everyone at NERD.

Kings are important just like any other animal. He said that he wanted to give back to the place that originally Kevin’s Kings came from. But other zoos and private facilities and venom extractors would want them too. Of course Kevin won’t sell them to just anyone. That would also be a big accomplishment for Kevin if he was able to captive breed them. I hope he’s able to do it.

@@melissaf.5898 you're totally right! Plus zoos and hospitals in regions where certains venomous snakes are native NEED antivenom, and captive bred milking snakes are easier, healthier, and safer to work with in venom labs. Can you imagine milking a wild caught king cobra? 💀
