She didn't stay silent when Skate Canada went behind her back and supported Eric and Vanessa. They want the fake pageant queen responses but she's too real. There are so many people who know how to operate and promote things so much better than the people who have been running the sport into the ground. I worked in politics, usually the most unethical people win.
Not only that, she has one of the strongest analytical minds in the sport. She accepts the IJS system (a big lift there) and is great about maximizing points. She should be high performance director.
Blows my mind. Meagan is the most intelligent skater/commentator. She is so underappreciated in the Skate Canada world and broadcasting community. I exclusively trust her opinions compared to most others and to see how she's treated by the org is just so disappointing.
American sports "journalists" are really the scum of the earth-- only rivaled by their political "journalists". I don't know how Brennan still has a job with all the woke bullshit she's peddled through the years.
More skating insanity. Given the ISU's history, I can't help but suspect back room deals and influence peddling. Dave, your reporting on Russia's sports culture and irregularities has been stellar for years. You've continued with this.
It is also simply unacceptable for us to investigate WADA for their manipulations with the identification and disclosure of doping. We remember how an unknown group of hackers, on September 13, 2016, published materials obtained as a result of hacking the World Anti-Doping Agency database. The media obtained information about which world-famous athletes were allowed by WADA to take, as they say, “for therapeutic purposes,” prohibited drugs. The experts were surprised by the list of drugs: according to documents obtained by the hackers, we are talking about very strong drugs, such as psychostimulants and amphetamine. The diagnoses on the basis of which WADA authorized their use are not disclosed. And experts ask the question: why do Olympic champions need drugs that are used to support hopeless patients? Essentially, this organization decides who should become champions. We need complete transparency about what athletes take and what they suffer from.
Thank you Dave - you’ve gone into overdrive this week for us. Meagan - sh’s amazing and humble - imagine being an Olympic medalist and World Champion and bussing the people around. She’s truly a special person - honest and forthright.
What Phil doesn't realise is that Valieva is going to be much better off than all the athletes from the US team taken all together. She will not be abandoned, she will be paid nicely and will be declared a martyr. In a few years time, be prepared to see her in Duma.
@user-di.....Yes, she probably will be sitting in duma, lie a soulless zombie. And we all know she is putinist already. If you truly think is what making a good live is, you must be sick!
I hope so. I feel bad for her because she became the fall guy/girl. She has to carry that shame forever. She was pretty upset. What a circus. Meanwhile the real perpetrators are still Scott free in a sense.
For sure considering the superiority complex of Russian people and the gaslighting of their Gov and Feds, she will be a martyr. What not to love is the “entourage” that can still coach and go to competitions
@@janef220Yup. Exactly. We all know a 15 year old girl did not devise a concoction of 2 over the counter cardiac supplements and then one cardiac medication that you can buy without prescription also. She's taking the fall for the "big guys." At the expense of the greatest skater in history, no less. Unbelievable.
All I have to say is that these two are amazing journalists, and thank you Dave for giving them this platform to speak. Thanks for allowing Meghan to speak as well. Thank you for all you do.
What really puzzles me is this provoking silence from ISU. Looks like everyone is demanding explanations from them and they’re pretending they’re blind and deaf.
David you have done an incredible job covering the Russian doping scandal since 2014. When I started listening to tsl in 2014 I used to think you were exaggerating and not being fair to the Russian skaters but you were proven correct.
I think Dave is hard on Russia, but if you cannot tell he truly admirers Russia and Russian sport. They have contributed a lot, not only comedic drama, but Art.
Dave you got me hooked on the skating drama during lockdown . This is a sport that just keeps giving . . . I have to keep reminding myself this is real life and had real life implications. It is just unbelievable!
Thanks so much for this Dave and the amazing guests. Meagan, the love we have for you knows no bounds. Keep doing you queen! Christine, you have always been everything. Thank you! Phil, thanks for your continued work. You are a class act; HOWEVER, it is not missed that you are a bit of a Russian apologist when it comes to this topic. As someone who was Soviet and Russian obsessed as a young athlete even I was taken aback. You are showing so much grace to repeated violators and are lamenting about justified punishments. Riddle me this…who do you think will come out financially better after all of this!? VALIEVA! Would you feel this same way if the athlete was from elsewhere? I won’t even delve into that exchange regarding “tough coaching” and being unable to substantiate Eteri’s abusive practices. You are great but the skewed positions regarding some of these topics is alarming
I don’t wish that on anyone. At the same time, in your hypothetical land, I’d absolutely love to see Megan, with her grit and intelligence and Tessa with her pageant charm come together in that manner. Those women would get it done!
She's anything but voice of REASON. No organization will choose to work with her: she has proven to be emotionally unstable and scandalous - the last thing skate Can needs rn.
@@primalcrittersThat’s both uncharitable and inaccurate. It just isn’t how sports work. The third score that is not disqualified earns the bronze, and how far back they are in points is of no significance. They don’t have to be good enough to deserve a medal. Everyone there is good enough to deserve a medal. The question is not of what is deserved but of how many points are earned.
@@meredith7299 I don't mean to offend anybody and I apologize if I offended you. I just I'm sorry I saw the skating and I don't think they deserve a medal. In terms of the rules and fairness, as the commenter said, there is no clear outlined rule for team events in figure skating. Team events and other sports have different rules. Thus, the ISU was within their power to do whatever the heck they wanted. And everything is politicized by the way. And frankly, Russia wants the gold or nothing. Bronze medal is an insult in their minds just as Sasha was extremely disappointed with silver because it's losing to her that's how Russia thinks
@@meredith7299 You know no one is talking about this but I think this should be covered in the whole episode. I think the media is covering up for Eteri due to her power. Everybody familiar with Eteri and how she trains, it's well documented that she makes skaters train through injuries including broken bones, torn ligaments, retired girls going to Germany to get hormone treatments to correct their hormonal imbalance, etc. Everyone talks about the physical damage that she does to the girls bodies, back injuries, debilitating hip injuries, broken arms, etc. Kosternia confirmed that she was forced to train through broken bones or leave. Medvedeva can't jump anymore due to back injury. Anna almost passing out at Nationals. Akateva disappearing due to severe injury. There are many more. But nobody is talking about the internal damage she is doing. I have wondered for 2 years if the teens she trains are actually developing cardiac conditions from overuse, coupled with malnutrition and dehydration. Will it turns out that an article that the skating lesson shared said that Kamila has a heart condition called athletic heart. It causes low blood pressure, a heart murmur, heart palpitations, dizziness, fainting spells, and worse. Therefore, the reason why I don't think they wanted to get a therapeutic use exemption to normalize Kamila's heart for her heart condition is because then WADA would find out that their rigorous training methods are actually causing cardiac conditions in teens. This would be sensational news and be very damaging for Eteri's reputation. Thus, they gave her supplements laced with the heart medication to stabilize her heart, and then they threw her to the wolves. Scherbakova knows all this & unfollowed Eteri likely because she is furious that a Eteri causes this level of bodily damage, and then walks Scott free. My point is she probably actually needs the medication for her heart condition, but the question is why are young girls getting heart conditions from their training??!
shocking that the russian team isn't disqualified as a whole. as for the harsh 4 year punishment...they are punishing valieva because the can't and won't punish tutberitze and the 'doctor'.
Exactly. Valieva, a once-in-a-lifetime talent, as the great Brian orser a Canadian coach recognized, is the "Fall Guy" for the scheming of her handlers. They are 100% correct, they blamed Grandpa because otherwise the team would be investigated
What Christine said about Maddie and Evan brought tears to my eyes..Also..I am glad that Vincent Zhou got a positive mention..I always feared for him after the devastation of Covid and his not being able to march w the team in the closing ceremony..That World bronze medal and the ensuing tours and shows in Japan w his "fam" as he called them..made the difference in his life..And good for him for speaking out.
I love watching young people skate. If that means no more Russian participation...okay. So what? I've seen them cheat so many different ways since the eighties that I no longer believe their performances are real, anyway. I could do without all the chaos--give me beautiful spirals, spins, jumps and bring back the school figures. Adopt awarding medals for figures, short, long and overall.
Okay honestly I would encourage you to look into the medical or therapeutic use exemptions of the United States has employed over the decades. Serena Williams on countless occasions has gotten therapeutic use exemptions for steroids. What for? Knee injuries sure but also for the common cold. Numerous times for a common cold being prescribed oral steroids. I don't think I need to tell you what steroids do but in case you don't know I have taken them because I've had many injuries as an active and athletic person that used to figure skate, and steroids give you an abundance of energy, you feel like Superwoman and it actually prevents you from sleeping well because you're so energetic. So, to get an exemption for a minor cold is it kind of insane. Then, the gravest offender in my mind is Simone biles. I have ADHD as you several friends and one of my best friends. ADHD causes inability to focus because you begin focusing on many things at once. However, one of the best therapies for ADHD is to get kids into sports because it helps channel their insane desire to move around and do stuff. Something like gymnastics is sodynamic that people with ADHD thrive in it and they don't need medication. But, because one has ADHD it's a very easy way to get amphetamines. Again, in case you don't know amphetamines cause extreme bursts of energy, endurance, stamina, higher pain thresholds, etc. pray tell, why would somebody do an active sport need something like an amphetamine? It really makes no sense and I'm American. Good friend that figure skates also said that Simone biles pulled out of competition in Japan when they would not let her take her amphetamines. As for Kamila, there are several theories I have all of which she is abused or a victim, As Dave agrees. That said, her talent is beyond this world and she came to Eteri already with this talent so she Eteri did not make Kamila magnificent. No, Kamila being a prodigy made her a prime target for a Eteri to want to snatch her under training camp. Now, I've said this since the beginning. I've wondered because of the militarized and very strict rigorous training regimen of the Russian athletes, I suspected that perhaps Camilla actually had developed a heart palpitation. This was my hunch from the get-go. I suspected that her coaches gave her a nutritional supplement but instead it was actually a heart medication laced. It has just been uncovered in court documents, that Kamila developed a heart condition called "athletic heart."in the article Dave attached they described it as a minor condition but it's not and I've had it. Athletic heart causes a heart murmur, a slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, etc. All of these symptoms can cause dizziness, fainting spells, and obviously in rare cases potentially a heart attack. I suspect that they gave her the medications for the heart because she actually needed it. Their singular fault though was potentially a heart attack. I suspect that they gave her the medications for the heart because she actually needed it. Their singular fault though was potentially a heart attack. I suspect that they gave her the medications for the heart because she actually needed it. Their singular fault potentially a heart attack. I suspect that they gave her the medications for the heart because she actually needed it. Their singular fault though was not potentially a heart attack. I suspect that they gave her the medications for the heart because she actually needed it. The major flaw was that they did not get a therapeutic exemption. Perhaps they thought they were above the law and scoffed at the rules. I know not. But all I know is that this makes a lot of sense that she had this heart condition and she needed heart medication to regulate or normalize her heart beat.
@@primalcrittersYou delude yourself. 🙄 The Russians ONCE AGAIN doped their athletes and this time one of them was caught. They cheated. AGAIN. Your bringing up Serena Williams and Simone Biles is ridiculous, irrelevant, borders on racist and is dissembling from the facts. Period. @@mysticalmargaret6105 your personal attack is really shameful. I cannot help the facts I did not make them up myself. And why are you not questioning Kamila's heart condition called athletic heart? Perhaps you should investigate that, or ask why she developed it?
I have a feeling that "both teams will receive bronze medals" get the Tokyo medal making machine out! It's 2002 Salt Lake City in 2024. RUS Vs CAN Round 5!
As Phil said, they can do anything with team medals, because the team event has its own reglament where nothing is mentioned about re-allocation of team points after someone has been disqualified.
My thoughts exactly. I'm still wishy-washy on the bronze though because even though it's not first place as I believe Russia truly deserved, they don't want third spot but still the Canadians are way too nice and push overs. Feel bad for them
Of course! When it comes to country and politics, there are always backroom deals. Heck, even in American judicial proceedings with top-level attorneys, there are backroom deals and I know from experience so of course that happens. The deal was we will throw Kamila to the wolves so that we can get back into international competition and retain an Olympic bronze and start competing in 2024 and also 2026. that poor girl. Everyone's been so focused on the Olympic Team Event medals (understandably), but something I've been wondering is about the Europeans medal, because Valieva has forfeit that too. How does that work? Does she have to physically return her European Gold Medal and, if so, to whom? And ISU championships come with prize money, so does she have to return that too? Does she have to fedex a check and a medal to the ISU headquarters in Lausanne or something? Does an ISU official show up in Moscow and demand she return it? Does the ISU write checks for the additional prize money to all the European women who have now moved up a spot? I'm just curious if anyone knows how that usually works.
The rule Christine mentions at 24.39 refers to individual skating (singles, pairs or dance). Philip is right -- there is unfortunately no clear rule on disqualification for the team event.
I'm confused about the bronze medal 🥉 I heard Russia 🇷🇺 will be bumped down to the bronze, but I thought you lose any medal with a positive drug test. Why isn't Canada getting the bronze? Like Meghan said why are people afraid to enforce the rules? What are they afraid of??? I don't get it
they bumped them down because after they removed Kamilas points they were still above Canada. What Canada is arguing is that the math is wrong because if Kamila was never in the competition to begin with, as she should not have been, the womens results wouldve all been moved up one spot, giving Canada the bronze.
@@jamiejoonks. I heard Russia would be 54 points and Canada 55 points subtracting kamilla 20 but adding 2 points to the female cdn skater. (She gets a higher points because of kamilla) 46:52 That’s what puts them a point ahead therefore the bronze
If it had not been Kamila, it would have been Trusova or Scherbakova and the results would have been the same, Olympic gold. And no one speaks about other clean Russian athletes from the team. Oh, I forgot, they are from the wrong country.
@@bamboozlea8347well now its come out that they knew about kamilas positive test days before the team event and still chose to let her do it. so not canada’s fault,
Just a note on the “math” portion of this, from the perspective of a skating fan who is also an F1 fan (a sport currently facing a case regarding disqualification results): There exists a major philosophical difference between “placement” and “points” even if points are given based on placement. As Christine stated, the ISU rules say teams “will move up accordingly in their placement”, but placement is likely interpreted as the final results list. Actual reallocation of points to other competitors that were not officially earned on that day is ideologically different than scratching a name off a list (i.e., what the ISU did for europeans), even if it seems stupid in this case. For context, the case in motorsport is whether disqualification of entire race should, after the fact, require a reallocation of season points which would then change the results of a world championship title. Recalculating points, even if those points are allocated based on placement, is a slippery slope and would set a precedent beyond this case in figure skating. My guess is that Canada may win this appeal, but I would urge people to critically think about why the ISU may have made this decision, beyond a “mathematical mistake”.
I appreciate that Phil doesn't want to state anything as fact if he isn't 100% certain that it's true (as it should be), BUT I feel that if he is deciding to report on this situation, then he at least should have done his due diligence in reading the numerous reports and verbatim quotes from Eteri's athletes stating explicit evidence of abuse and psychologically/physically harmful training methods. Because those training methods have become so normalized for them, they have given (likely unknowingly) damning interviews to many news outlets without even realizing that they've essentially confirmed her abusive methods. The "she doesn't let us drink water" stories come to mind...
What are some of the things that she has said in interviews that you found damning? I'm just curious because I've heard horror stories from coaches around the world
@@primalcritters Not eteri, her students. I’m disgusted by Skate Canada. Not only are they spineless, but not utilizing Meagan to their advantage only further proves their incompetence. Her voice is needed. Dear USFSA, grab her ASAP!!! She’s an asset.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport have failed in this. After two years they should have covered all possibilities in their initial judgement. The consequences should have been clearcut. Instead they have allowed the mayhem to continue and opened up the possibilities for further appeals.
Of cause Brennan keeps insisting on this idiotic theory "russians KNEW Kamila got positive test but sent her anyway". Objective journalist... Phil was trying to call for reason but it's pointless with these two....
As someone else said, it makes you wonder about their extra strict weight rules where girls were not allowed to change weight by a pound. The lighter you weigh, the quicker a medication/drug leaves your system. Just look it up.
I agree with the ISU that they decided not to move up the other teams by one point. If someone from 2nd or 3rd place is caught doping then it makes the recalculation problematic if everyone gets extra points and they suddenly move up 2 or 3 places (from 4th to 2nd or even 1st with a tie). It would create a lot of confusion. I am certain the ISU thought it through in the past years. It is the first case with the Team Event and they need to make a precedent. But Russia doesn't want to accept this and they want the gold. I mean, they have the right appeal but I don't think they have big chances to turn it around.
I think Christine makes an excellent point about the medal ceremony with Russia in the bronze medal position; it makes it next to impossible to have it at any international event, be it Worlds or Olympics while Russian athletes are banned. From a practical point of view it makes much more sense to allocate the bronze to Canada (apart from being the mathematical correct outcome).
OK, am I the only one taken aback by this bit in the CAS media release: "Ms Valieva was not able to establish, on the balance of probabilities and on the basis of the evidence before the Panel, that she had not committed the Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) intentionally." As I understand it, CAS believes she knew about the doping all along.
56:42: Taking exception to Christine Brennan presenting her personal theories as fact: "How on earth does Russia send an athlete with a positive test to the Olympics?" 58:05: Christine, as if relaying thoughts of RUS officials: "We know she's positive but she's 15 so she'll get away with it!" Inappropriate for a journalist.
One of the problems trying to figure out the intensity of the Eteri camp is not because there might be a culture of silence on their training methods, but because the athletes and Russian FS community themselves don’t necessarily find fault in the “whatever it takes to win” idea. Perhaps the skaters view their training to be indicative of their hard work rather than a potentially harmful environment. Maybe the ends justify the means…
I have been posting the math that if kamila was disqualified her points are not there that means whoever won should get the 10 points and so on and so on I don't understand why they didn't do it that way. I even responded to Sonia bianchetti and she said I don't know
Phil and Christine, Suggestion- see if you can contact Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov former head of the Sochi lab. He’s in witness protection here in the USA. See if he would shed some light on the drug side of this, especially after the CAS Report comes out. You can bet your life he’s following this. It would be an interesting to hear his thoughts.
With the "late" test, I do wonder if someone within Russia wanted to take down Eteri. Just a thought. Russia is normally so careful with their cheating and she was their STAR! It just seems weird to me her test results weren't rushed. 🤷♀️
Everything is weird about this especially since she is a prodigy and did not need any boost. But I keep going back to a couple things too long to mention but one is her condition called athletic heart. It causes a heart murmur, palpitations, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting spells, an in rare cases could even cause your heart to stop. There is a high likelihood that she actually needed the medication to normalize her heart and that Russia for some reason chose not to get a therapeutic use exemption perhaps because they thought they were above the law.
@@etherealtb6021 I agree it is weird and I want more information to come out about her heart condition called athletic heart. It wouldn't be surprising if Russia believes they are above the law.

I think the reason that they did not apply for a therapeutic use exemption for Kamila for her condition called athletic heart is because their militaristic training style is causing cardiac damage to young girls and they do not want it revealed that they're causing damage through rigorous training at such a young age. Thus, they lace their supplements to equalize their heart, and don't get TUEs because they know how bad it will look if it's discovered that this is normal for them to inflict damage to the heart at such a young age

I'm asking around some cycling people what would happen with UCI points. At each event, an individual gets a certain amount of points, and then there is an annual ranking(which interestingly is way more important at the lower ends, as the bottom team gets relegated to a lower level). Will be interested to see if there's any documentation about it, the ranking system came in fairly recently(way after cycling had the huge amount of doping bans).
as an average figure skating viewer, I have many questions to ISU: 1) how “clean” athletes who don’t represent a country and use abbreviation instead of a country are allowed to team event? 2) if a single skater is disqualified from both programs, does it mean there is no team? I thought the team should be represented in all disciplines 3) the counting of points by ISU is simply ridiculous. Who thought it was the best decision? I can’t imagine many more questions going through the heads of athletes around the world. ISU kills the sport with their own hands..
As per your second question, in the Team Event, countries did not have to send a participant for every discipline. Ukraine didn’t send a participant for the Men’s Single discipline and Germany didn’t send participants for the Pairs discipline. So Team Russia doesn’t technically need to be disqualified due to lack of participants for Women’s Single discipline

Simone biles never missed a drug test because she takes amphetamines and she has a waiver for it and please do not compare amphetamines to an angina medication for someone that has athletic heart. Athletic heart causes heart murmurs, heart palpitations, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting spells, and in severe cases can cause your heart to stop. She probably needed the medication and possibly Russia should have done the smart thing and gotten a therapeutic use exemption. But that is a far cry from amphetamine and I know from experience as I used to skate and my best friend takes adderall. She herself said that there's good reason why Simone biles pulled out of Japan competition when she could not take it. Amphetamines are a whole nother ball game so it's laughable to compare the two. No teenager is trying to score heart meds, but they are regularly trying to buy amphetamines.
@novakd1530taking amphetamines is not clean I'm sorry. You cannot even put an angina medication and amphetamines in the same sentence they are not comparable at all and it's laughable for somebody to defend amonrsimes like this. Go look up the symptoms for yourself and tell me if you think she needs heart medication to normalize her heart.n for somebody with adhd, the best medication is sport because it's dynamic and you don't need to sit and focus on something. It's insane that people think amphetamines are clean it should be banned everywhere just as it is in Japan which is why she pulled out of competition when she could not take it there
there is also quite a lot of ignorance regarding figure skating in the Canadian media. I listened to a Newstalk commentator talk about this yesterday and he did not understand any part of the team event or even about figure skating. His guest did have some sports knowledge and made the point that in other sports if one person is caught doping the entire team is DQ'd Skating is not the big sport that others think it might be in Canada. Hockey is. Soccer is. But not figure skating. It's to our credit that we have produced the skaters like Meagan and Orser etc.
I think part of the reason Americans are not as excited about this team medal issue has something to do with the general waning interest in figure skating brought about by the horrible broadcast coverage over the past few years.
i personally care more about Tutberidze going to prison much more than anything else. the medals are a side show and i very much hope it doesn’t distract from what really matters here.
Maybe the reason they don't project excitement is that as it stands right now with ROC getting bronze, but being banned from IOC, they can't really have a medal ceremony in Paris and thus how do you get excited when you still don't have a physical medal, would like the ceremony you were denied, but have no clue how or when that will take place. USA and Japan don't want boos and hisses when they share a podium event with ROC. Talk about a downer
I am very sorry for everyone who has been negatively affected in this mess. I think Canada is a victim as well as everyone who competed in this discipline including the team mates of Valieva. Valieva probably did not know much about what she was given but her behavior afterwards was not fine. Not that she had much of a choice anyway.
Would be great to see a company run an ad campaign for the team but realistically nobody wants direct or indirect association to Russian doping of minor athletes. Sucks. Hopefully something good comes out of this.
On the weight loss topic, as I've said my best friend was a competitive figure skater and she said and it's the same in dance, eating disorders start very young in the US as well. Figure skating is extremely political and cutthroat in the United States and canada. Knowing how Russians are as people, very tough and hard people, it is no surprise that they take seriousness of their art which they consider it to another level. I don't have an issue with the weight loss, I have an issue with skating through broken bones and injuries. That is catastrophic
First off Canada should be getting the Bronze not Russia. With the decision of Kamilia's ban and Russia getting upset about it. If they want to blame someone then blame Kamilia's coach and trainers bc they are the ones that gave her the illegal substance in the first place. Russia has no one to blame but themselves.
Discussing the Russian Nationals you asked the question why Russia didn't broadcast it and why it became so difficult to watch the competitions from Russia. I think it is because Russia is not going to open, Russia is going to close. Of course, sportsmen and coaches want to come back but i don't really know if the government needs it. They pay good money, make different competitions and the situation with removal Russian sportsmen works with the russophobic propoganda so well. I really appreciate how Christine and Philip feel about Valieva, the harshness of judgement and talk about the lesson that should be understandable for Russia. But for Russian government she is one from many, they gave her money like for the Olimpic medal, now she is a host at TV, she is popular, have many contracts and i think they think that this is enough. I am not even sure that someone really pity about her sportive career. I personally don't understand the need of this calculation. If Canada wants to take medals they should apply and they would receive it. Russia had its Olimpic moment, once again the sportsmen already received money like Olimpic champions and everybody treats them like Olimpic champions and the situation with taking these medals just once again suits perfectly to the propoganda of evil West. Zhulin and Tarasova have already started to talk that the bronze would be taken by Canada. All these talkd that they will apply to take the gold back are just talks. It is already seen that they just talked about help to Valieva but at the end of the day just helped her to receive the most strict verdict and i think with team event they want the same. On the 15 th of February they going to broadcast travel show with Valieva and i think the harsh verdict will help rating a lot and it means there is more chance to attract new viewers to propoganda purposes. So if it is really the lesson the Western World wanted to give. When it is going to Russia it doesnt eager to integrate into the World any longer. Putin wants his own Olimpic games. You are talking about democracy but Russia is a country with war militaristik rejime.
I'm troubled by the idea that we are expecting a sports federation to apply pressure to impact the outcome of metals being awarded. Aren't their rules against that? I agree that Canada got screwed but I don't think their federation owns any of that responsibility or that they should be expected to campaign for fairness. That's a pretty basic expectation of people who participate in our sport. Across the board.
@@TheSkatingLesson Yes, it is Dave. Thank you for reminding me. It is our collective responsibility to advocate for our skating federation and community. Especially as the rules were so obviously ignored. But I'm having a problem reconciling that idea against the history of pressure against judges and officials and how it has impacted Olympic outcomes.
Thank you! So it’s the standard. This article includes a lot more details about the “exposed to TMZ through Grandpa ❤️ medication” claim, but can’t provide evidence to substantiate it.
Between the team competition and the sad National Championships they recently had, Skate Canada doesn’t seem to care about their athletes at all right now. Meagan is an amazing advocate for Canada and the sport as a whole. She’s bad ass! 🫶🇨🇦⛸️
If one team members disqualified, the entire team is as well. Example of this was the Sydney 2000 gymnastics team event. It was determined that one Chinese gymnast had lied about her age deeming her ineligible for being under age. They lost their bronze medal in 2010ish and it was rewarded to the US team.
@@TheSkatingLesson It was refuted by another russian figure skating journalist ( not Maya😅). Interesting that I remember that the whole russian part of Instagram back in February 2022 was telling that "minor from our team was found cheated with doping- american journalist source said". Like we literally were the last. The more I listen to your last interviews Dave and yesterday's podcast of Bobrova with the sports lawyer the more I think that this whole situation is the fail of RUSADA and the Stockholm laboratory😅
they deliberately drugged her because she is a minor; they plotted this knowing that a minor would not be banned or punished harshly; use your brains peopole
Potentially absolutely. But also, what about her athletic heart condition? It causes heart murmurs, palpitations, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting spells, and in severe cases can cause your heart to stop. She probably actually needed the medication but their major mistake was not applying for a therapeutic use exemption. Perhaps because they thought they were above the law?
@@mysticalmargaret6105They're causing cardiac damage to young girls. They don't apply for therapeutic use exemptions because they know it will look horrible that they are inflicting cardiac damage on teens. Stop your eye rolls and research for yourself
We are not digging deep enough. The question is why did Kamila have a heart condition? They threw her to the wolves and they don't apply for therapeutic exemptions because they know it will look damning if it's revealed they're causing cardiac damage to teens. This is what everybody is overlooking
Roman replaced Keegan because Keegan was testing positive and couldn’t fly until he was negative. Also, the irony of Roman getting screwed over to accommodate Russia when his parents are Ukrainian immigrants!
He initially did test positive for COVID. Remember, this was when kits were testing positive with no symptoms. A later kit tested negative and he could fly over to the Olympics.
I have to get on with my day, but it's hard when I am fuming over what they did to Meghan. I would have been 10 times as loud about it as she was even if I did all that driving that they wanted.
And Kamila doesn't have to serve a full 4 year ban from this month and year (2024). The clock started retroactively to December 25, 2021. She's already 'served' 2 years of the ban. It will be lifted on December 25, 2025, a few months before the 2026 Olympics. Of course she'll likely be retired and/or long out of contention by then.
Out of curiosity, do we think part of why it’s so important that the camps requires the athletes so skinny and small is it’s more effective for hiding the dosage ?and once the athletes is older and their weight fluctuates a lot more throughout the month as girls it’s not as easy to hide thus leading to not be able to overtrain in the way the could on the substance when they were younger with increased side effects. Idk also so many from the team have weird bone breaks seems suspicious. Also could the substance decrease in effectiveness as they get older/ weight changes through long term misuse that since russia is out of international competition they can increase the dose because they won’t be caught. Idk it’s all strange.
I don't know why everybody keeps overlooking this key detail. Kamila has a condition called athletic heart. It causes heart palpitations, a heart murmur, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting spells and can potentially cause your heart to stop. She might have actually needed the medication if they didn't lace her on purpose. They should have gotten a therapeutic use exemption but perhaps they thought they were above the law. This is what's so tragic.
How do we know of what they say is true about the heart condition. Look at American skater Starr Andrew's who has a heart condition, she was operated on last year to stop some of the fibrillation but still has another heart beat problem. Would be interesting to know what meds she takes.
The ironic thing is making a big deal out of this when the whole so called sport is completely rotten from top to bottom right now. The judging basically has no correlation to what the skaters do, but is just as political and corrupt as ever, even at the national level.
Maths, math; if you know the *_MATHICALLY FORMULA,_* used: *__ + __ - 1.1 =* What is earned + the judge's feelings - 1.1 = *_- 1.1=Descendants of Chattel Slavery_*
and furthermore, if they try to claim that the punishment will deter future doping let's think about that for a minute. so by punishing valieva future russian atheletes will demand that their coaches not dope them? when they are 18 years old? when they are fifteen or even younger these children are supposed to tell their coaching team that they won't be drugged? and in russia? give me a break.
I'm sincerely trying to understand their reasoning, and I'm trying to be impartial. I don't get how moving people up is fair ON TOP OF also deducting Kamila's short and free skate points entirely. By removing Kamila as if they had no female skater, and they still placed third that's pretty incredible and shows how far ahead they were. To me adding two artificial points for a team event specifically seems unfair. They should purely judge based on points, and not judged by artificially adding points
The issue is once Valieva is removed it obviously means the ranked second lady (9 points) is now the first ranked lady (10 points) which is why Canada should be two points higher.
@@benbailey159bbI hear that's what they said but once again I just keep going back to the points. Why need to move anybody up or down if you're just counting points?
As for Kamila, there are several theories I have all of which she is abused or a victim, As Dave agrees. That said, her talent is beyond this world and she came to Eteri already with this talent so she Eteri did not make Kamila magnificent. No, Kamila being a prodigy made her a prime target for a Eteri to want to snatch her under training camp. Now, I've said this since the beginning. I've wondered because of the militarized and very strict rigorous training regimen of the Russian athletes, I suspected that perhaps Camilla actually had developed a heart palpitation. It has just been uncovered in court documents, that Kamila developed a heart condition called "athletic heart."in the article Dave attached they described it as a minor condition but it's not and I've had it. I will never understand how Skate Canada does not utilize Meagan. She is amazing..an advocate for the athletes..and she loves the sport.
She didn't stay silent when Skate Canada went behind her back and supported Eric and Vanessa. They want the fake pageant queen responses but she's too real. There are so many people who know how to operate and promote things so much better than the people who have been running the sport into the ground. Not only that, she has one of the strongest analytical minds in the sport. She accepts the IJS system (a big lift there) and is great about maximizing points. She should be high performance director.

That's because they weren't good and to be frank they don't deserve to medal.

I'm just curious if anyone knows how that usually works.

My guess is that Canada may win this appeal, but I would urge people to critically think about why the ISU may have made this decision, beyond a “mathematical mistake”.
you’re completely right. well said

I'm just curious because I've heard horror stories from coaches around the world
👏👏👏👏👏
@@primalcritters Not eteri, her students. Some examples: not being allowed to drink water because it will make them gain weight, being only allowed to eat powdered food for weeks up to a competition, being told that they should be able to train on broken bones, and being ridiculed when they don't, being stuffed into a garbage can after a bad practice, having to weigh 38kg and being reprimanded for gaining more than 200g...etc.
@@topicdel ahh yes. All of this I know I was thinking there was something else. Yes, she's militaristic. For all the reasons that you cited, I sincerely think that these girls develop heart conditions because of this rigorous training. Kamila is said to have a condition called athletic heart. It's not being reported on much but I read it in an article Dave shared and look up the symptoms. Heart murmur, heart palpitations, dizziness, fainting spells, low blood pressure. If you follow the trail, it makes a whole lot of sense if they decided to make her take a heart medication to normalize her heart. I think they gave her laced "supplements", and that she genuinely did not know. They never applied for a therapeutic use exemption because they don't want people to know they're causing heart conditions for young girls. Then when it came out, they made her take a hit for the team and gave her a story about her Grandpa so that the truth would not come out about the coaching staff
@@topicdel You know no one is talking about this but everybody familiar with Eteri and how she trains, it's well documented that she makes skaters train through injuries including broken bones, torn ligaments, retired girls going to Germany to get hormone treatments to correct their hormonal imbalable, etc. Kosternia saying that she left because she was forced to skate through injury or else leave. Medvedeva how to stop because she couldn't even jump because of her back. Anna almost passing out at Nationals.
👇🏻
Everyone talks about the physical damage that she does to the girls bodies, back injuries, debilitating hip injuries, broken arms, etc. but nobody is talking about the internal damage she is doing. Thus, they gave her supplements laced with the heart medication to stabilize her heart, and then they threw her to the when she tested positive for the angina medication. My point is she probably actually needs the medication for her heart condition, but the question is why are young girls getting heart conditions from their training??!

Transportation oh my God laugh out loud
I know!!
That was insulting!!
This was really interesting, I liked how you let them converse and go off of one another's points!
What would I do without the Skating Lesson these days. Thank you guys!! 🙏🏻 Where can I find that Japanese Documentary? 🤔

OK, am I the only one taken aback by this bit in the CAS media release: "Ms Valieva was not able to establish, on the balance of probabilities and on the basis of the evidence before the Panel, that she had not committed the Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) intentionally." One of the problems trying to figure out the intensity of the Eteri camp is not because there might be a culture of silence on their training methods, but because the athletes and Russian FS community themselves don’t necessarily find fault in the “whatever it takes to win” idea.

Will be interested to see if there's any documentation about it, the ranking system came in fairly recently(way after cycling had the huge amount of doping bans).
as an average figure skating viewer, I have many questions to ISU:
1) how “clean” athletes who don’t represent a country and use abbreviation instead of a country are allowed to team event?
2) if a single skater is disqualified from both programs, does it mean there is no team? I thought the team should be represented in all disciplines
3) the counting of points by ISU is simply ridiculous.

Athletic heart causes heart murmurs, heart palpitations, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting spells, and in severe cases can cause your heart to stop. there is also quite a lot of ignorance regarding figure skating in the Canadian media.
I'm not sure which Americans you're speaking for but THIS American is THRILLED for Team USA finally getting the gold that they earned and deserve!!

David, it’s time for a new episode! Also, it would be great if you could invite a sports lawyer (someone who handles similar cases) to the program.
I can work on that. Not many options there.
Would be great to see a company run an ad campaign for the team but realistically nobody wants direct or indirect association to Russian doping of minor athletes. Sucks. Hopefully something good comes out of this.
Phil you are the best!

The flaw was that they did not get a therapeutic exemption. Perhaps they thought they were above the law and scoffed at the rules. I know not. But all I know is that this makes a lot of sense that she had this heart condition to normalize her heart beat. Also, if they get a therapeutic use exemption it will be revealed that they are causing cardiac damage to young girls. That would be a massive controversy. So instead they secretly drug them
I'm with Dave, I'm sure it's Shvetsky
Tutberidze doping coach, monster
As a russian I think it's rusada+ ministry of sport fuck up. Shevtski and Tutberidze are the sheeps who are following someone's rules
@@LaLa-ht3rp они там все повязаны
Who gave her the medicine. Would it have to be a dr to get their hands on it or maybe an adult who got a prescription. That’s what nobody is asking who handed it to her
Hi David -I have a perspective on all this from a mother to mother conversation with a mother of minor training with Tuberiz Moscow-regarding parent contract that is signed- don’t feel comfortable putting this info here publicly but can private message you (I live in the UAE and met you at adult nationals in Detroit briefly- Jojo’s friend-
