The Luminoth are of the same class of being as the Chozo and are a peaceful race. However, that all changes with the arrival of a dark terror.

It took me years to realize that MP2 is essentially you fixing LAMP for a bunch of moths
Man
Retro was really doing moth memes before it became a thing.
And they need you to fix it before the giant lurking spiders with zombification disease eat them all
Bruh 😂😂😂😂
@@Kurayamiblack The Ing remind me of Venom.
Umos: I pray. Pray that one day we receive salvation
Samus: *fucking crashes into aether* heeeey.
Umos: ..... I'll take it
15:48 for the luminoths, the day samus destroyed dark aether was the most important day of their lives, but for her, it was tuesday
I'm not so sure. Prime 2 is unique in that the world you explore is mid-apocalypse, rather than a post-apocalypse and Aether is one of the few planets you actually fully save, rather than destroy or stop the suffering of.
Samus being able to actually save the Luminoth in the way that she couldn't for the Chozo that saved and raised her, must've had some effect, just not one she'd be willing to show on the outside except in private moments. For once, she wasn't simply picking up the pieces and avenging those that came before her. For once, she wasn't too late.
The Aether lore is my favorite lore in Metroid, and the reason why it feels special is that Samus actually manages to save an alien species in this game. *We* actually see the conflict happening in front of our eyes, *we* see how the Luminoth had fallen and *we* get to bring back prosperity to them and annihilate the Ing.
Im not sure which game comes first but in Metroid prime Hunters, Samus also saved a whole race
Bad news. With only 30-ish survivors, inbreeding will wipe them out in short order.
@@DKHZStudio MPH Is supposed to take place after 1 but before 2 IIRC...
It's also the first time Samus genocide an entire specie
"Annihilate".
I see what you did there...
Imagine what U-Mos must have been thinking. Samus shows up, says absolutely nothing, singlehandedly annihilates an entire planet of monsters that gave your entire race a beating, and then leaves still without a word and just a wave. Samus really is a silent horror in the Prime games and just destroys everything. Samus' Power Suit is a Chozo masterpiece wielded to perfection by the only one who could use it to its utmost.
Samus is quite litterally a one man army lol.
Except every other Tuesday she somehow glitches it to lose its powerups
Lol "single-handedly"
If it makes you feel better, there are logs from the federation soldiers corpses in this game that say exactly this, they compare Samus to a mythical creature, a boogeyman. "No one person could take down an entire space pirate station"
I just now realized them being moth people who control light is supposed to be a parallel to how moths in real life are attracted to light
I like to imagine afterwards the remaining luminoth then revered Samus as a god and passed stories of her heroic duties onto their children
The Ing nearly brought an entire race to extinction and Samus just flies in and destroys them all on her own. Classic!
Lunarian: where were you when we needed you like several years ago!?
Samus: blowing up planets
Lunarian:
In Samus’s defense, it’s actually usually the antagonists that blow up planets... Primarily in an attempt to kill her.
@@leonides1527 Dark Aether is actually the first planet Samus blew up, unless there's one in the manga I'm not aware of.
@@speedude0164 I thought zebes was the first?
@@leonides1527 The Prime trilogy happens between Metroid 1 and 2. I also thought that during my first playthrough of Prime given the scans talking about the fall of Zebes, but they're just referring to Tourian (and now the Mother Ship) exploding. So Zebes is the 3rd.
They really be making a Moth Species have the power of Lamp huh
Aether has some of my favorite lore, behind only bryyo for how politic it was
So cool to see all the relevant lore details compiled into a single story. It really captures the desperation of the Luminoth. And I love the fact that Samus got to save a civilization that was on the verge of collapse, instead of exploring one that's long been dead like the Chozo.
The Ing can possess everything, from a couch to a sports car
Prime 2 is perfect. It’s themes story and aesthetic are peak Metroid. I try and play through prime 2 at least once a year just to relive the experience all over again.
Remaster hopefully soon😅
Samus has exterminated her share of species, but I believe the Ing are the only sentient civilization she's wiped out. Not that I'm complaining. Nothing of value was lost.
It's a really good video. Makes me want to replay the game again
This is the most comprehensive and complete lore of the Luminoth I have ever seen. MP2 Echoes, is my Favorite in the Prime series.
I remember playing it for the first time. Had 18 hours straight non-sleep. I remember I activated a glitch in sanctuary fortress (the spider ball tech drone in the giant cylinder in the middle) and I got stuck. There was no way to progress. I was obviously PISSED OFF, and I had to start from scratch but this time I returned in 1/3 of the first run and way better equipped.
I had a huge orgasm with the Screw Attack, sorely absent in the first iteration of Prime (and the reason MP is NOT my favorite in the series, since that attack is TRADEMARK of METROID, only absent on the first Prime). And I fell in love with the ALttP puzzle solving mechanics of dual dimensions.
The best Prime in my opinion.
You didn't save?
3D screw attack always sucks. In prime 2 and 3 its used very situationally, to go up shafts or cover long distances. Its not used everywhere like 2d metroid. And in Metroid Other M, so many enemies are NOT killed in 1 hit from the screw attack, u end up getting hurt more often than not.
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is my favorite of the trilogy, the Luminoth are one of the best alien races and personally I always thought they would support Samus if she asked for their help, after all she did save their entire race! The entire game was a blast to play and I beat it twice because I missed literally 3 scans on my first 100% play through on the Trilogy edition so I did a 2nd run for those last scans. I might do a third run soon since I enjoy Echoes so much.
This was a nice release! I been waiting and it was worth the wait! The history of the Luminoth with the rise of Dark Aether from what I can tell from my knowledge of Metroid Prime 2’s story (still haven’t played it yet) and I got to say, I feel vindicated in my opinions about the series needing to move on from the Chozo since I don’t see too much Chozo influences in the game. Really makes the world of Metroid look a lot larger when other aliens inhabit it!
I was always under the impression however that Phazon technology was always around or at least in development behind the scenes of the game, I didn’t think that the whole story on Aether was the cause of it all.
I wouldn't mind the Chozo be shown off more if they, ya know, actually had a point to be there in the grand scheme of things. It's why I liked the Chozo Memories, something new and potentially interesting could be shown and we'll likely see a side of the Chozo we've never seen before, and if it relates to Samus in some way, making her question her choices more, then that will be really interesting.
Yep, Aether's where Phazon got brought into Federation hands and it's a thing not many people know about.
When you get a chance play it man, is a really great game with an awesome storytelling. One of the darkest metroid games too (game literally opens up with zombie soldiers atacking you!)
There are some details in the Game,If you don't pay attention you will never realize, like: The Crisis with Samus in Aether was a Coincidence but the Phazon is a important Ore in the Galaxy to build Energy. But It was discovered on Planet Tallon IV with mines . And that Planet was also colonized by the Chozos.
Well when Samus get in Aether, her Ship was struck by Lighting and her Ship had to activate the Recuperation System.
Well, meanwhile Samus got investigate the intercepted message of Galaxy Federation on aether . When Samus found out the Metroid Prime (Events of Metroid Prime a.k.a Dark Samus), also been in this Planet feeding himself with Phazon.
And Later Samus encounter the Space Pirates too.
Samus was sucked to Dark Aether in a Rift of Time-Space and Confronted by Ings. And the Ings steal some abilities of her Power Suit.
So Samus meets the Guardian Luminoth and him tells the Planet's Lore to her.
This is why Samus accepted helping the Luminoths. Because, She doesn't have choice and nor ways to go out the Planet.
This is the First Game on the Series Samus doesn't necessarily use the Chozo Technology, She got again what was stolled of her like: Boost Ball, Spider Ball, Hi-Jump Boots and Bombs. Samus have to fight with Ings that absorb those abilities.
Samus gain Luminoth Technologies Like: Dark Suit,Light Suit, Dark Beam, Light Beam and Annihilator.
It's strange that some ing managed to escape dark Aether and adapt/evolve because of phazon exposure 🤔
Pretty sure it was the other way around, the phazon ing came on the leviathan and became the “dark” ing
@@MegaStuff15 It's actually a really unique phenomenon in that case, the original "phaz-ing" that landed with the leviathan completely traded phazon for the dark matter of dark aether somehow, as there doesn't seem to be any real trace of phazon in any of the ing creatures you encounter.
But the game doesn’t even explain exactly what the ing are it just gives a brief description so were they creatures from another planet or did they land from the meteor or spawn from it?
I like the implication that the ing were able to use the energy transfer module to steal her abilities.
That's NOT what happened... they have the ability to enter and possess other living things... her armor suit was compromised during an attempted ing possession, and they just TOOK her suit abilities. The ONLY thing the energy transfer module is good for is to allow the possessor to absorb and move the planetary energy(Hence the name, lol)and protect the possessor from ing possession, that's about it. there's little to NO evidence it was used for anything else other than that.
5:52 the X parasite says hi
The Ing, possesses AND corrupts them with PHAZON. The X Parasites EATS the host and MIMICS an exaggerated form of its host. Completely different Parasites.
@@groudonor12 if we're just going by what we know from Fusion's Xs, then yeah. But Dread's Xs...
A Leviathan hit the planet and the phazon ripped the planet apart. A Leviathan crashed into tallon iv too, tho the damage wasn’t nearly as cataclysmic. Aether’s Leviathan is never shown, but the one on tallon iv is where u fight Metroid Prime, in the ‘crater’ at the end
I love the Prime series and with Nintendo talking about a Metroid Prime remake they better remake Prime 2 also.
6:00 I haven't heard the Mention that the Ing Larvae looks exactly like a Creature Native to Phaaze itself. would have been perfect since the Leviathan seed was just mentioned.
Happy 34 anniversary of Metroid!!!😆
Don’t look now but I hear they’re making Metroid 5 🤫
@@craigmckenzie4967 Lol
That is awesome. There is not enough lore metroid content right now. Thanks for that.
I want to hear theorys on what the ING are.
Also i didnt realize you could leave morphball form vs the boost guardian XD
From playing Metroid Prime 3, I believe the Ing came to Aether from a Leviathan, a sort of "seed" creature from Phaze that attempts to spread itself to other worlds, possibly to create more planets like Phaaze... but upon impact with Aether, it's strange light energy properties somehow mutated them or wiped them clean of Phazon, turning into the Ing as well as giving them their own pocket dimension.
It can be implied that the meteor that struck Talon IV was also a Leviathan, it irradiated a particular Metroid, creating Metroid Prime, and by effect, Dark Samus, who is shown to have a thing for Phazon as well as a final stand with Samus on Phaaze itself.
I haven't played Prime in a long while, so forgive me if something is out of line with what is currently known in canon, but this is the conclusion I came to.
@@Konfektionery The thing is with Dark Samus is that Metroid Prime is dark Samus. Cause it stole the Phazon suit with a little bit of Samus' DNA to become it
@@ailoriarayne5086 of course, I just didn't want to go into detail since Leviathan was the topic.
@@Konfektionery To be fair if it did not fight Samus on Phaaze it would have died either way as either from starvation since it looks like it can only eat Phazon or dies with the planet since all phazon was erased with the explosion of the planets somehow
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes gotta be my favourite Metroid game from all. The story, the idea of having 2 seperate dimensions with 2 different species in each dimensions, the atmosphere and especially the music, GOSH you gotta love the music, as it KISSES the atmosphere and makes it even better with it! In all aspects, I think this game is amazing. Im happy once they get it onto the Switch, as I really love what they have done with it.
I may prefer the first Prime to Echoes but if there's one thing I prefer about this game over the rest of the trilogy, it's most likely Dark Aether.
I love the environment of this planet/dimension, with its omnipresent purple, and its landscape of death and ruin that emerges from exotic life.
I love this dark world so much, that when I drain the Aether energy from its controller, I'm always a little sad to see the environment turn from purple to red accompanied by earthquakes.
@@nikolap490 The Dark Aether might be one of my most favourite places in any game. Its very ominous and eerie. It also has such a great atmospheric soundtrack too.
Best prime game and one of the best gaming experiences ever!!!
For those who want context, the Space Pirates were gifted the Hyper Cannon and didn't know what to do with it. They used it ONCE and BROKE. Later, they find the Leviathan Seed hits Aether and corrupts it so much that it had split Aether into TWO WORLDS. The Space Pirates took it upon themselves to continue PROJECT DREAD, and collected as much Phazon as possible for this project. When failed after the events of Echoes, they returned to the Space Pirate Homeworld to where they encounter a weakened Dark Samus. When they revived her, she then starts proceeding to kill everyone till they showed her the damaged Hyper Cannon. They upgrade it with the help of Dark Samus. This leads to the events of MP HUNTERS and CORRUPTION.
Samus was the first badass protagonist i played
watching this still makes me wish for a switch trilogy release so I could replay prime 1 and 2. and mabe 3 if possible.
I hope Nintendo will remaster this game aswel ( and hopefully fix a CERTAIN tedious boss fight )
Enjoyed the vid alot better at 0.85x Speed, felt less rushed, since i like to think about certain topics for a second or two. nice coverage of the story.
Thanks for this! Great tribute to my favorite in the Prime series.
I’m thought that the “blue luminoth” are just normal red luminoth wearing light suits, as only the keybearers are seen in that garb and the lore mentions that the used light suits
I love Prime 2 Echoes, but there is one glaring plot hole I can never over look.
Why would the Ing, who have at the this point the most important weapon in the war, the energy transfer device, attack Umos' Sky Temple with nothing but 7 Hunter Ing possessing a Alpha Splinter and 6 regular splinters? Which after they are defeated, hands the energy transfer device back over to Samus / the Luminoth.
It makes no sense, you would think them coming to get the last energy would have been a massive assault by 1000's of Ing.
Like the cutscene of the Galactic Troops getting attacked by 1000's of possessed splinters is what you would think the attack on the Sky temple would look like.
Probably overconfidence. I guess that with the amount of victories they had, they were convinced they were unstoppable.
@@LoneWanderSpark303Thus why they didn't really send much of an onslaught. I believe they assumed all Luminoth were dead so it was easy pickings to them. Boy, they were wrong 😂
What's funny is I see no one talking about how at the end of MP metroid prime takes samus phazon suit eventually birthing dark samus so all this is metroid prime trying to get it's revenge on samus
Glad to see a new video from the best Metroid channel.
Maybe it’s because I’m higher than the sky temple but that was mesmerizing AF
This is really cool! New sub!

Man, I really hope Prime 2 gets a remaster. I have a friend who's also a Metroid fan and has played the full trilogy and he says that Prime 2 is the best out of them. I want to experience it myself but I don't own a GameCube or Wii so I've just been hoping the games get remastered or at least ported.

Any chance you can make a video regarding the lore of Bryyo from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption? It has a fascinating background regarding two separate factions both fighting against one another, all while oblivious to the real threat that loomed above them.
Cool vid, clears up some conceptions in my mind. Kinda makes me wonder that the feds discovered phazon at the end of what happened in prime 2, didn't Samus report it in prime 1?
Apparently, when Samus destroyed Metroid Prime on Tallon IV the Phazon on the planet was completely gone as we're told that Tallon IV has begun to completely heal since Samus' efforts there. I don't think an explanation was given, but there are two possibilities.
1) Metroid Prime's destruction caused the Leviathan in Tallon IV to self-destruct, including the Phazon it produced on the planet. I personally don't buy it since this didn't occur on Aether when the Emperor Ing was defeated.
2) Dark Samus, after reincarnating from Metroid Prime, consumed all of the Phazon on the planet that she could find before leaving to find more, which was on Aether, allowing Tallon IV to heal. I find this to be the most plausible suggestion.
@thatmetroidguy yea I think 2 makes sense, the only thing is I'm mp3 they talked about how destroying the seeds would prevent the planets from turning into phaze, it's possible that given the time in between series, maybe the federation didn't get to talon iv in, where as aether might have been "fresher" if you know what I mean.
I really enjoyed this video! Keep up the good work dude!
Thank you! I'm going to get back into the swing of things!
Excellent video. Liked and subbed.
Am I crazy for liking Echos more?

Excellent video. You should be proud
Why would Ings possessed Dark Pirates attack Dark Samus?
It's never explained but we know that Dark Samus does not attack space pirates who do not get in their way, according to their database.
1:00
I know this is just a small part of the video, but isn't there a scan entry in Prime 3 that indicates that the Chozo might still be out there?
I'm not entirely sure, but everything I've seen points to them having vanished all of a sudden, assumed to be extinct, but no one actually knows for sure.
NO, Corruption states what the last remaining Thoha did BEFORE they go to Talon IV where they met their eventual demise from the Metroid Prime. I imagine Raven Beak had forced Quiet Robe to create the Metroid Prime to kill any last Thoha left whilst keeping Quiet Robe
@@ThatMetroidGuy I find it funny how Bryyo had a similar story to both the Luminoth and the Thoha Chozo.
Gr8, thank you for this :3
Samus Aran be like:
Enters the planet, saves an entire race, refuses to elaborate, leaves.
Trully the chadest female character in video game history.
10 COMMANDMENTS.
WHAT IF NONE OF THOSE CREATIONS HAD CHPS? OR MRKS?
So the ing came from the leviathan? Or they were already on aether and the leviathan spurred their growth? They seem like a pretty dangerous and intelligent parasitic species so I guess I’m confused as to where they came from and why there aren’t more of them
It was neither. When the leviathan hit. It created a rift in space and time. The ing were the result of the impact from the dimensional creation. Aether was already imbalanced due to it being a rouge planet and self creating it’s energy. The leviathan most likely upset the balance durning impact.
The Ing were created from Dark Samus.
I know this is a year late, but it's heavily implied that the Ing are a mutation/descendent of the similar Phaz-Ing (which are Phazon-based creatures native to the planet Phaaze, the source of all Phazon). Inglets especially look, sound, and behave quite similar to the Phaz-Ing (not to mention Ing, a word of Luminoth origin, is in their name), and Emperor Ing's first form is literally just a massive and overgrown Inglet.
PLANETS AND UNIVERSES THAT ARE ACTUALLY ATOMS...? WELL IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE FOUND IT LOOK AT THE GAMES? YET THEY ARE RESTRAINED...?

Same here. Just stumbled in to this channel .
The unique interaction between the leviathan and aether's light seems to come down to one overlooked conclusion.
Phazon itself is a planetary energy, one of three in the series, actually, the third being SR388's aeion in Samus Returns,
Two forms of planetary energy coming in direct contact with each other must have had some extreme anomalous effects within the Metroid universe's laws of physics.
What's a planetary engine?
This was the first game that I played where death wasn't played up.
What I mean was not obscenity for the sake of gratuity, like mortal kombat, and not kid games where you disappear in a puff of smoke.
They die. You read people's last words pooled in their own blood before their mortal coil unwinds. Troopers hanging from the ceiling to be consumed for later. Luminoth Ghosts begging you to save their families and friends as you read the final will over top of their dead body. Fighting every tooth and nail until the last moment in A global war that they lost. Most Luminoth never returned from the darkness. Reading the lore walking past decayed corpses, and seeing the effects of possession were mortifying. and playing this game at 9 was absolutely poignant in my development and i feel like it taught me a lot about understanding the fragility of life.
in a nutshell:
The luminoth get absolutely dropped kicked by the ing, having there own tech used against them, and u-mos decides to send the rest of them into stasis, despite the fact that without them the planet is basically doomed.
Then Samus shows up, IMMEDIATELY retrieves the energy transfer module without even knowing what it is, murders the ENTIRE ing army, and blows up the dark dimension
U-Mos: we are facing extinction to an unstoppable force.
Samus: aight bet give me like a day
@@craigmckenzie4967 50 years of intense war losing most of your species, which ended up failing, just for one hunter to come by and murder your enemies in a day.

And all before dinner 😊
I get chills seeing that scene at 9:52
The cinematography was on point showing the fallen Luminoth guardian and the holographic projection representing his soul was absolutely brilliant.
Listening to their regrets and hearing their pleas, as if they're wandering spirits. This scene was powerful. He talks about his family and friends. And they ALL died. You can see when she really notices this seeing Sammie and look at their dead body. It's terrifyingly sad. Their culture of light means that these holograms are technically "light ghosts".
Saving the luminoth also has a great importance on samus' character. Unlike tallón V where she arrived far too late to save the Chozo, here the luminoth were quite literally 1 room away from extinction, the alpha splinter and the ing that possessed it was clearly there to take the final light (hence why it has the energy controller) Samus arrived exactly in the moment to stop the Ings final attack and counter attack saving the luminoth. She was late to save the Chozo but she wouldn't let another phazon extinction event happen to an ancient race. Not in her watch.
It's terrifying how close she cut it! I never appreciated that the Ing were meters away from victory when Samus arrived.
Samus single handledly saving a collapsing planet and a dying race who has at war for 50 years againts a formidable enemy.
Samus: No need to thank me is just another day at the office, waves goodbye.
I wish there was a more specific and canon explanation for why the leviathan effected Aether so differently from all the other planets. There's evidence that the Ing are kind of a result of Phazon (note the phaze-ing in MP3) but they also seem distinct from it. Like, what would have happened if the Ing won? Would they have united with the Phazon across the galaxy? Ally with it? Eat it? Could they have been an even bigger threat?
Technically thanks to the pirates Ather and the Luminoth was saved lol also the dark alpha splinter was probably there for the final attack to the great temple against U-mos.
ThatMetroidGuy not a lot of people know this but did you know that the luminoth are unable to speak and resulted into using sign language. The holograms with the circles and lines that you find throughout the game those are 3d representations of their knuckles and fingers I never knew this myself before but I thought it was very clever I watched an interview with mike wikan and he mentioned that Carl deckard invented the luminoth language

Glad to tell I find prime 2 the more unique games in the franchise I’m actually trying to come up with a race for a fan story I have in mind that takes place after dread don’t exactly want the chozo to be involved cause that’s what the prime series did so well expanded the universe with different races
I figured a race that are getting massacred by the x or something and the mawkin chozo from dread are trying to over this planet whether it’s the x’s natural instinct to increase or the mawkin’s conquering ideals idk I don’t really have that many people to talk about it
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is a great game because I like the light and dark concept!

No Halo Reach does not have portals to an alternate dimension.
The war on Aether was perhaps one of the most intriguing story within the Metroid series for how deep and driven it was. The Luminoth were a highly advanced race so the fact that they could have lost shows just how scary the Ing were. They had to fight for years after such hardships from the new conditions of the planet, to developing strategies as they went from an offense to barely surviving defense, even their numbers had taken such heavy losses that it went from warriors, to soldiers, to citizens volunteering, to even children, that's how desperate they were to survive another day that they needed every single hand they had not because they were soulless (because reminder that the Luminoth greatly value life from their own to a stray weed living in a cave) but from how desperate they were and just how heartless the Ing were that they showed mercy no to nobody. If it weren't for Samus arriving at that moment, the Ing would have certainly won the war: had infiltrated their last safe area, have taken the energy transfer module and only needed to get upstairs to rid of U-Mos which they are more than capable. That's how close this war was for them: just one room and one life away
Extremly well done, i love it
MP2 is the inspiration for Stranger Things' Upside Down and I'm tired of pretending otherwise
Amazing explanation, my favorite Metroid game among super Metroid
The ing are terrifying
What makes them scarier is its heavily implied that they evolved from Phaz-Ing the phazon variant of Inglets encountered late in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. Its rumored that when the Leviathan crashed into Aether and created the Dark Dimension, the Phaz-Ing on it we're somehow either altered by the rift that created the Dark Dimension or simply evolved due to Dark Aethers Atmosphere from beings of Phazon to beings of Darkness. In other words had another Leviathan hit Aether before the events of Corruption history might have repeated itself.
It really pains me to see so many scans ignored.
I wonder who would win. The Ing or the Flood
Best Metroid prime game. Hoping they make a remaster.
Love this video dude! keep it up! hope to watch more!
Such a good video.
Like... 50 years of war? Why did Luminoth not try to develop ways to contact other people to help or evacuate some of their own?
Yeah, atmosphere was all screwed, but in 50 years I reckon they coud've done something to reach others
I like to think that the events of MP2 occurred partially because Samus was bored. She was originally charged with locating/investigating the missing federation troopers. But because her ship was damaged and had to wait for the auto-repair to finish, she could have been all like "eh, might as well".
YOU KNOW NOT YOU ENTERTAIN ANGELS. HOW MANY CHPS DID ANTI VENOM HAVE 7? YOU REALLY THINK YOU WILL TAKE THEM YOU WILL SURELY DIE.

Really cool video 👍👍
wait, didn't the Luminoth acording to some of the scans in game build the power controllers in response to the loss of half of aethers energy, to distribute the remainder, preventing planetary collapse?
Which I know is weird with the energy controllers in dark aether.
The energy controllers were built to disperse the Light of Aether across the cities of the planet so everyone had access to energy, and they also helped stabilise the planet's energy. That was all before the Leviathan's impact.
