In general, if a verb phrase is quite long (such as 먹을 만하다), it's more common to use 지 않다 to form the negative verb structure, and less common to use 안. And yes, using 안 sounds rather awkward.

Hi rather than 지 않아 for the negative could you just put 안 before 먹을 만해 or 볼 만해 to say not worth it or would that sound more awkward?
