    I wonder how much of the IPL's success and profit can be attributed to Brendan McCullum. If the first IPL game had been just another cricket match, then the IPL might have become just another cricket tournament, and not quite the megalith it is today. Sure the marketing made everyone tune in for the first game, but McCullum made sure no-one could turn their eyes away. I genuinely think that without that knock, the IPL becomes at least 10% less valuable than it is today.

    The IPL has been huge for cricket, and for the most part it has had a positive effect. I wonder, though, if this years viewership is higher or lower than previous years. I am not watching because i personally dont care for a game where there is no contest between bat and ball. If 220+ is the norm, its become more like a golf driving range than actual cricket. This needs to be addressed - also for the sake of the Indian national team, who will go to World Cups and have to bat on regular surfaces against higher quality bowlers. I worry for them at this year's event.

    The auction was one of the best ideas ever. Proper supply demand dynamics along with premiums for niche talents like left arm quicks, mystery spinners, upcoming potential.
    Also each team with same kitty will never go out of fashion

    need a video explaining why IPL teams are conceding 250+ runs in almost every other match. Is it due to the impact player rule, small stadiums, flat wickets, or a massive decline in bowling standards?

    The only Jarrod video I haven't been impressed by. A lot of stuff presented was already known. The IPL does deserve credit but a lot of it is also because there are a billion people waiting to watch cricket. ICL was the one that forced them to launch it in the first place. Modi does seem like a maverick and a pioneer. I'm not sure the rest of the board and administrators have been. For instance, I think they should do away with the mega auction now.

  • @WjP1988
    @WjP1988 6 месяцев назад +1

    As long as multiple leagues use auctions and drafts I don't see a route to widespread examples of players being exclusively owned by franchise groups. Trent Boult is a good example, MI Emirates and MI New York but Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, because MI didn't have control in the auction. The IPL auction obviously generates huge interest in India but it will be interesting to see if it begins to impact the plans of franchise groups and whether that brings an eventual end to the auction cycle (certainly mega auctions).
