Hello buddy ! Keep up the good work ! I can't choose a new gaming laptop with all these beasts out here but you help a lot👍
Thanks, and good luck in hunt 🫡
Thanks for the review. I'm looking to buy one, what do you think is the best choice, this one or slim 5 gen 9 with 4070, the one you reviewed 3 weeks ago, like 4070 with great battery OR i7 14 with the 'pro' factor.
Best review of this laptop on the internet! Also thanks for @18:02 . Subbed!
Thanks !
Looking forward to the follow-up gaming vid
This review made get one! Couldn't be happier with it!
Honestly, how is it?
Man I really wish the legion 5 pro should have had atleast ONE thunderbolt port, considering that even asus puts it in its cheaper tuf lineups as well
Bruh, that should be mentioned every where. I bought this expecting at least a thunderbolt. What’s the point of being pro when there’s nothing pro about it.
@@Abdure this exactly, once everyone starts mentioning this, lenovo would have to probably listen to them
@@drishalballaney6590plz tell me what's the main use of thunderbolt?
Perfect review! Keep it going like that. Which is the most quieter Lenovo laptop which dedicated GPU?
Probably the Legion 7 slim, if you put it into balanced mode or even silent mode you will get incredible performance and it is very quiet. The AMD 5 as well runs incredibly cool in silent mode and you get great performance
My Legion Slim 5 (AMD) is also quieter
Just ordered the Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 Intel Core i9-14900HX. Excited to get it soon!
Is the fan noise much better than the 2023 Version? My 2023 was annoying + coil whine so i retoured it.
Hi, What is the best RTX 4060 and i7 laptop currently? Is it the Legion 5i Pro?
Hey, great video! Which WiFi adapter can you recommend to upgrade the legion?
If it’s intel you get can get intel wifi 7
@@TechGuyBeau thanks for the answer, is there a specific chip that is compatible, or is any Wifi 7 chip suitable?
which one would be better overall legion pro 5i or the slim 5 amd?both at 4070 and i9for the pro/R7 for the slim.
4:52 Noticed u got the chinese version of the Ideapad pro 14. I am interested in getting the chinese version of the Thinkbook 16+. Any advice on what to do after getting a chinese market laptop?
I’ve ordered 3 so far. Just do a fresh windows install and enjoy
Hi thanks for the fair reviews , would you recommand getting this with i9 14 gen, 4070 and a dcip 100% screen
Or the 2023 model with a 7945hx 4070 and 500 nits 100% srgb screen
The 2023 model is about 100 dollers more expensive
If you can wait, wait till February 2025 for the RTX 5070 or RTX 5090/5080 comes end of this year. 20% more speed at same watt.
i think 7945hx is better than 19 14th gen afaik.
Please do your research before buying.
@@aykyi2668 i which i could lol i m stuck on a 2017 laptop thats on its last legs and if i waited for the 5000 lapotps i would be waiting for essentially another year so the prices can go down ( as i dont live in us prices are high here when new tech get released ) , ill just pick up one of those the jump from my old 2017 laptop is already big enough 😄
Hey beau, have you experienced the black screen on start up issue on any of your Lenovos? If so, what did you do to fix it?
How long is the black screen? Did you update bios before this?
@@TechGuyBeau the black screen on boot up lasts a few minutes and then takes me to the log in screen. I’ve actually had the issue for awhile. I’ve restored windows, tried a clean install of windows, tried combinations of different versions of bios and gpu drivers and I’ve found that the issue is nvidia drivers. Anything past 537.42 gives me the black screen and occasional bsod while gaming. I’m wondering if you have experienced the same thing and if so what was your remedy? Because I personally don’t want to be running 1 year old+ gpu drivers for the lifespan of my laptop. I’m worried eventually games will require me to update and I’ll be forced to cope with the black screen and other issues that it brings. (I have the slim 7 gen 8 amd btw)
Dude you are great👍🏻 you are doing reviews of laptops that I am exactly considering to buy, i think i will go for legion 7i- 14700hx, rtx 4060 and 3,2k 430nits screen, i can get this configuratiom here in EU for 1390€, what do you think?
i7 and 4060 will be a good combo when paired with the beautiful 3.2k screen
Why so cheap?
Its on sale from 1667€ to 1390€, with 16gb RAM, and no OS, thats perfect for me, I m gonna work in 3d modeling programs like Catia, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SletchUp, and do some light gaming like CS and LoL, for AAA titles I got ps5😄 and if RAM will be a problem then I will uprgrade to 32 or 64, 32gigs will cost me 83€ so thats fine
Just received my new one yesterday. The display lid keeps A LOT of fingerprints; Lenovo Spectrum not showing on Vantage app due to a software/firmware problem; The IPS panel had a big white glow on the right corner. Returned after 4 hours. The machine is great but unfortunately the mechanical part is lacky because they needed to cut some costs. The Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 display lid was a lot more rigid so that the overall enclosure assembly.
Sounds like a lemon. Return it
You shouldn't buy Lenovo products, their support is very bad. They earn a lot of money by selling warranty packages with very high prices, so they will build laptops with bad quality, after warranty expires your devices will fail hardwares or firmware/software, you must pay more money to buy their warranty package to get their support. Lenovo will build/update error firmwares/software to force you to buy their warranty upgrade, they use this dirty way to earn money....
I got the Legion pro 5 Intel 14700HX 4060 delivered last week. I did some necessary tests ( hardware check, screen bleed, all ports and keyboard check) and physical inspection on video. Anything else needs to be done? 🎉❤
im about to order this laptop with i9. How is it working so far?
Yeah.. run few benchmarks like cinebench r23, funmark, timespy and compare them with other scores with the same laptop
I hadn’t noticed that Lenovo removed the Thunderbolt / USB4 from the Pro 5 series on Gen 8 and Gen 9, after having it on the Gen7 That’s a real shame. Do you think that was done mostly to differentiate the 5 from the 7, because the extra RGB and better cooling wasn’t enough of a discriminator? Also, do you know if the 140 Watt USB C charging on the Gen 8 and Gen 9 is actually PD 3.1, utilizing 28 Volts, or of it’s still the lame 20 V but 7 amps?
It’s a mix of sku differentiation and cost savings in the lower models
Not related to the video, but are you eyeing on reviewing the new Thinkbook 16p Gen 5? It's interesting to see its specs compared to others lineup as it offer budgetary means to work and play at the same time, I'm feeling like its a sleeper...
It hasn’t arrived yet :(
But I’m sure I will like it. I really loved the 16p last year
Actually, the specs are about the same as this now that I saw it, 2 Upgradable SODIMMS and NVMEs and a 165hz screen whilst offering i5hx to i7 and i9 hx, its literally the same... with lesser price. Its a sleeper built alright.
@@torpenhigalak5909just get the slim then and enjoy the slightly better gpu.
@@TechGuyBeau just search what the slim is and indeed their pretty similar with little about differences of configurability (Slim has soldered RAM whilst Thinkbook have socketed). Thank you much.
I am confused in dispay section, as there are 2 options available in lenovo website with i9 and 4070
1) 100% SRGB but with thinner bezels
2) 100% DCPI3
Which one should I choose and is this bezel difference really that big ?
The bezels will be the same. I recommend the 100% dcip
I expect lenovo to really change the RGB backlighting system on legion pro 5 gen 10 2025 laptops the keyboard animations of the RGB keyboard on legion 5 and pro 5 series looks bad plus some colours also looks washed out it would be really nice if tgey bring the keyboard lighting from legion 7 series
bro what would u recommend for 1600p high settings gaming? legion slim 5i with 4070 or legion 5i pro with 4060..they r bout the same price at my place
It probably won’t matter. If the prices are the same, the slim has the slightly more powerful GPU, and the pro has slightly more premium chassis. What are the differences in the screen, that may be a deciding factor
Hey mate . Nice review . Sheer performance wise which is better in 19v14900hx and 4070 config
The 7i or pro 5i? I'm getting pro 5i for roughly 400 usd cheaper same config
7i for $400 more is far superior
@@BanksRolls how ? Cooling and performance favours pro 5i
im looking to buy the i7-14700HX and 4070 version, thank you for this review!
I suggest you the Legion 7i White, thinner, 100% aluminium chassis, also has i7-14700HX and RTX 4070. But biggest point, its thinner and looks perfect.
The cpu gets hot, so you will need intel software to optimize the cpu and also set a fix power limit to keep it at certain performance, otherwise the max 150w overheat it.
@@aykyi2668 for the same price you can get i9 with better chassis for thermals. Better thermals will have better perf.
@@aykyi2668 i would love to buy that one,but its almost 600 usd more in my country
I just bought the pro 5i with 14th gen i9 and 4070. It's the 2tb model. Was on sale on Best Buys website for $1720. Do you think it was worth it?
That seems like a fair price year, especially with the ssd upgrade and better gpu
what laptop would you pick between the 7i and this one?
7i easily if the prices are close
im a broke masters student that needs decent gpu for machine learning . which lenovo is best for me ? i would love if its cheap but durable aswell . Thank you ! ♥
Really any legion will do
I ordered a custom made legion pro 5 with 100% DCIp3 screen. Is there a way to check if I have received the same? And not the sRGB one.
Not really. But you can tell. If the reds are very deep and vibrant it’s dcip. If it’s a bit more washed out and orang-ish then it’s srgb
@@TechGuyBeau so the best way to check is play a 4K video with vibrant colours in it?
I want a laptop with i7 14700hx CPU and 4060 GPU, confused between 2024 Legion and LOQ. I have a tight budget and will have to go out of the line a little to get the legion, diff. here in india is 34,000 INR between these two models. My work is video editing and poster making, gaming would be least priority. Please help me decide.
Low typically come with more plastic and a 1080p/1200p screen. Otherwise they are quite similar
legion 5 slim or 5i? how i7 14650hx compares to ryzen 7 8845HS??? i have decided that rtx 4060 is the sweet spot for me but can't seem to decide beween those 2 cpu
Without a doubt, get the AMD system
@@TechGuyBeau on it bro thanks.
Can you use this charger in europe, with adequate cable and eu plug?
I’m not sure if it can do 240 volts. Perhaps someone can chime in
@@TechGuyBeau after some ''googleing'' I found that it should work in EU,all chargers are rated from 100-240v,just need eu or gb cable/socket adapter
I got a question: Is the cooling still the same as the legion 5i pro 4060 gen 8 from last year?
Seems to be yes
I got legion 5 pro, i7 14700hx, rtx 4070 and I can't change keyboard rgb color. Lenovo spectrum missing in Vantage. Unninstal, instal nothing work...there is 4 default lightning mode, you can switch them, but not possible to change colors...
I m confused in between 4060 or 4070 ? I mean i can push to get 4070 ,but is it worth it to get 4070 ? Also i7 or i9 , which one you recommend, primary purpose is gaming, coding , editing 🤔
imo 4060 with i7 is good enough
15k for GPU and 5k for CPu.. lelo bhai.. i9 4070
if you're really buying i7 then Loq is better for i9 get Legion 5i pro
@@shrey522 aree bro but will i9 processor laptop ka push kr payega utna , I mean utna tho use hone wala bhi ni hai tho waist ni jaega?, also yr log khete hai like there is not much of a difference between 4060 and 4070 🤡 kiske sath jau phir
It depends on the price. If it’s maybe $100 more, it might be worth it because you’re gonna get about 10% or so better performance. But if it’s several hundred it’s not worth it
@@adityapandey4330 4070 kelo 13.5k extra hai.. worth hai
Is there difference in bezels between SRGB vs DCIP3 screen
They will be the same, it’s the panel only that I swapped
Is i7 enough or will there be major performance difference with i9-14900HX + RTX 4060
@@vinaybanavi4655performance between an i7 and i9 in a laptop is almost never worth the premium. Sometimes they re the same, sometimes the i9 performs WORSE. Remember that laptops are always battling heat, so putting a really hot cpu in will only cause thermal throttling. This may even impact gpu performance
Please can you compare the legion 5i, 5i pro and 7i(2024). Will really appreciate it
Ps: kindly compare the build quality, materials used and thickness 🙏
I’m hoping on a sale for the 5i Normal
Do the fans completely turn off when idle?
Yes they do
@@TechGuyBeau thanks!
will you recommend this or legion 7i?
This has slightly better cooling and can be a bit cheaper. The legion 7i is more portable and a bit more premium
@@TechGuyBeau is it worth to get the thunderbolt 4 port?
I got this one Core i9 14900HX / RTX 4070 version. Temperature was reaching 107 degrees when playing Forza 5 in balanced or performance mode. Returned it and ordered another one thinking the first one was defective. The second one still runs super hot but usually not more than 100degrees. I throttles too frequently IMO or maybe I am just too worried.
I am thinking of returning it and giving up on the legion pro 5i 😢
Anyone has this same laptop and faces this thermal issues?
What resolution, what fps? Limit your fps to something reasonable and you’ll be laughing. Also consider an AMD model if you are worried about CPU temps, or get an i5. I9 is almost never needed
@@TechGuyBeauThanks for replying... I tested with several resolutions, fps, and presets (from low to extreme), and temp goes up regardless. Only when in quiet mode it does not do it, but in Balanced or Performance, it goes up with anything I am using (also while 3D rendering, which is why I got the i9).
Next review must be loq r7 8845hs
That’s the next one I’m going to work on, but it won’t be the next published. I only got it a day ago, so I need several days with any laptop
@@TechGuyBeau ok but try to do it fast 🙏
Last! Changing it up!
I guess i was wrong, the next Ryzen 9 is Ryzen 9 9955HX with 16core (2x CCD) + 40CU's RX 890M.
Only the Lenovo Legion 9 gen 9(AMD) has Ryzen 9 9955HX with RX 890M + RTX 5090 + 64GB RAM.
Is there any on the market right now?
@@geluzah Ryzen 9 7945HX/HX3D yes.
Ryzen 9 7945HX and 7945HX3D has a bad igpu BUT cpu side its near perfect.
Ryzen 9 9955HX comes out end this year.
RTX 5090/5080 comes end of the year.
Legion 9i gen 9 is out but it has RTX 4090 and i9.

Atleast 1 thunderbolt 4 port.. I'm skipping this laptop just coz of that . Otherwise good
