Watching this video was of great help. I never would have attempted the repair without the enthusiastic encouragement of Kim and Reggie. After watching the video I removed the broken one. The right side handle broke off our love-seat after 9 years of faithful service. I had to use a ratchet handle screwdriver to get one of the two screws out, as a conventional Phillips-head as shown in the video, with my arthritic 73 year-old hand, did not have enough torque to break it loose. The removal of the cable was easier than depicted in the video. I ordered a genuine La-Z-Boy replacement part, about $50. WELL WORTH IT! I had a couple of hiccups on reconnecting the cable, but with my daughters help---read "younger, smaller, agile, stronger hands"--- we had it back up and operating in short order.

Wow! It worked! Yay! You saved us from buying a new loveseat. $60 for 2 new mechanisms is better than the cost of a new sofa.

Would it kill you to add a link to buy the cable? That is the hard part as our dealer sucks

Thank you for this video! I'm sure you know that the cable "hook" end of the La-Z Boy recliner is not the same as what you can buy on Amazon, pays to take it apart first. I have 3 pieces of the Dawson sectional and believe it or not the left side is not the same as the right side. I was going to use it as my guide, close enough, but the video really helped. As Covid is high in my town I was happy to have the part sent to my house for free (paid shipping and handling, bought 2) and that I was able to fix it myself without calling someone out. I'm an old lady and the videos posted on RUclips help me a lot.Thanks.

This video makes it look simple. Would appreciate a video showing removal of existing/replacement of new arm itself.

I sell lazyboy for a living but this was the first time I had to repair one for myself. The video was very helpful and it was also helpful that it was a sofa that I had the problem with so I was able to look at the other side as a reference as to how to put that little hook on. Great video but close up shots of the loop in that's connected to that plastic piece would have been more helpful. All in although it was an easy job although a little bit tedious. Thanks a lot and i'm still a huge lazy boy fan.

Thank you! We have always had lazy boy furniture. We had 2 rocker recliners that lasted 10 years until we finally just gave them away and got new ones and never ever had a repair on them. However, we just bought a couch and rocker, both recliners, and have had nothing but trouble since we bought them. They were almost $2000! The rocker constantly squeaks and is not up to par! One of the recliners on the couch had a broken recliner tab and when I looked underneath the recliner the wires had broken that control the footstool. When I called to have them repair it as it was only a year and a 1/2 old I was told lazy boy only pays for the parts! They wanted a $100 to come to my house and another $80 an hour to fix this! I was furious as I thought lazy boy covered all of their furniture 100% but I've never had a repair until now. It's obvious they have gone way down in their craftsmanship and reliability. We will not spend this kind of money on furniture that is supposed to last a long time! We're so disappointed. What I did was order the part and paid $13 for shipping. I fixed it myself along with your video in 10 minutes. So I fixed this for $13 and lazy boy would have charged me at least $200!! This is a sham and disgraceful for lazy boy! This will be the last lazy boy furniture we ever buy. Such a shame as they had such a good reputation but just like everyone else they have decided to make their products cheaply! . Buyer beware as lazy boy is not what it used to be.

We’ve always owned LaZBoy but the couch and loveseat we bought last have been junk. Fabrics pulled apart on the seat, the arm rest on love seat broke and now our cable to the pull handle is broken. I still have a 21 year old LaZBoy chair that looks a bit rough but still works and feels great. My wife wants to replace our couch and loveseat with another set from LaZBoy. Ughh. I’ve never owned other brands ans not sure how they compare. The current ones are 10 years old, but the arm rest broke at year 6. We paid for extended warranty but learned that’s not even provided by LaZBoy. I fear any other brand will be junk too…..but not looking to spend $4k-$5k on something that may break in less than 5 years.

Same thing for me, I bought a loveseat and chair about 3 years ago. But I had to fix the loveseat handle on two occasions. For me it's over Lazy Boy. Instead of making videos to show how to change the handle, they should make sure to make quality products to satisfy their customers.

Agreed. We paid $4-5K for a LazyBoy sofa with 2 built-in recliners. Soon after buying the "eye" George references in the video kept slipping off the flimsy plastic post such that the recliner wouldn't recline any more. I got under there a couple of times and put it back on before giving up because it's just flimsy plastic with nothing to hold it in place. So I had to create my own method of keeping it on using wire from out in the garage. But now, a couple of years later, the actual cable itself snapped in half for some reason. lol. Light use, indoors with air conditioning, never been moved, and only two slim people ever using it. In other words, not a frat house, not a house with 6 giant firefighters on it, not used all day - just a couple hours of TV a few nights a week after work. Yet the cable itself snapped right where it comes out of the pull handle. Needless to say, not buying a Lazyboy again.

I went to the Boscov's that the chairs were ordered from a few years ago. They contacted La-Z-Boy who called me. $12.99 for the shipping, which took a couple of weeks, and the box had two cable sets in it (so now I have a spare set.
The hardest part of it all was moving the coffee table aside to make room for the chair to repair. Took me around ten minutes. Piece of cake, thanks to this video.

Well, sometimes we as humans have to engage our brains to fill in the gaps. This is one of the things that separates us from primates otherwise we might as well be primates. Just do it the same as the removal but in reverse!

Don't waste your time trying to order this part online from La-Z-Boy. After getting under your couch to find the Product tag with the Acknowledgment number, Style #, Fabric # and Delivery date and entering all that info online, it will then just tell you to go into a store to place an order for a new one. I didn't keep my receipt 8 years later.

The handles are cheap plastic and they break on the same place every time. Nothing in America is quality made anymore. All that's left are things that are predesigned to break.

Don’t buy la z boy recliners. They’re trash. Bought 2 new recliners they started breaking by the second month. Lazboy took weeks to respond. They use 3rd party warranties. That warrantee is as good as third party car warrantees. Lol. Repairs are continuous on these chairs, and I have resorted to 2nd party machined parts over the cheap plastic components the chairs came with.
