What is sick is the fact that "abandon" has a different style from "shave of us" and "take my breath away // noose": they are experimenting the genres they play. The vocalist is insane! And he is also has a cool heavy voice!

I'm the last person who should be categorizing bands/songs admittedly, with that in mind, none of their stuff I've listened to this morning would strike me as pop-punk (and the bands they remind me of I'm pretty sure aren't considered pop-punk, but maybe I'm out to lunch)
I don't think he meant to insinuate that they ever had a pop-punk sound (because they definitely didn't). I think he was just comparing to Protest the Hero (a band Nath is already familiar with) and saying that Capstan is a little more influenced by pop-punk than PTH is, which is true: stuff like "Stars Before The Sun" and "Wax Poetic" have super obvious pop-punk influences, but certainly don't sound like any of the pop-punk bands around. I think the closest they've ever come to pop-punk would actually be one of their newest singles called "take my breath away" if you're looking for more of that kind of sound. I think I miss the connection more because my mind goes more toward a few metalcore/post metalcore bands, even with the tracks on Seasonal Depression, and I'm not familiar with how the band themselves categorize their music. With the comparison made and some digging, I can see common elements that I missed/wouldn't have thought of before (I've no idea if that makes sense and this is already too long)
