Black yarn is really a lighting issue. I was working on amigurumi pieces last Sunday, that use red and black yarn. In the middle of afternoon, with sunlight, at my desk, black yarn ? Pfff, no issue. In the evening, with electrical light, still at my desk, same black yarn : Where are my stitches ?
All this talk of weaving in ends reminds me of my first really big crochet project; a chevron afghan that changed colors ever eight rows. I didn't know how to weave between the posts yet so I just weaved it in and out of stitches until I got to the end of the yarn. You can still tell which side was the one I switched colors on if you look for it. Still love that blanket.
Chronic pain solidarity! >.< For me it's hypermobility + fibromyalgia ... and my fingers/hands hurt when I'm not careful, which kind-of sucks when one likes to do stuff with ones hands! I did chuckle at your commentary about small hooks--while I don't want to make *big* projects with them, I actually enjoy using smaller hooks (been going between 0.5mm and 1.5mm lately)
Surprisingly enough, I find diagrams way easier to read than regular patterns. Except DROPS diagrams. They have way too many symbols it's ridiculous! "This one's for single crochet and this one's for a single crochet on a chain space" I don't need two separate symbols for that if I see a single crochet on top of a chain symbol of course I know what I'm supposed to be doing I'm not that stupid. But yeah they're easier for me especially for stuff like shawls and doilies and other lacy projects
I have only knitted with their patterns. The last one had some weird symbols but mostly it's been ok for knit. I have rarely crocheted from charts but I know how.
Drops patterns were my first thought when I saw that one too. I was making one of their sweaters once, simple variation on a raglan that was easy to work up once I figured out what was happening, but deciphering that pattern was enough of a chore that I've never considered their patterns since. They really over complicated something simple
Defintely give the diagrams a shot. The basic symbols are easy to decipher: oval = chain, • = slipstitch, + or × = UK dc. For anything that looks like a (religious) cross, the number of slashes across the stem is the number of yarn overs before pulling up a loop, so one slash = one yarn = UK treble; two slashes = 2 yo = UK dtr I'd recommend starting with something flat that is worked in the round (eg a granny square). That way all the stitches are worked in the same direction. If you get a pattern that's worked in rows, scan/take a pic or import a copy into a photo app or something like powerpoint and mirror it (flip vertically), and use it for the wrong-side rows - usually the even numbered rows if you are right handed
I have hand issues and I find having projects with a variety of stitches and moving from one to the next really helps me crochet longer with less pain. (one amigurumi, one granny, etc)
So... I would probably choose chocolate over crochet. My experience with black yarn is totally dependent upon what I make. Also, as I've gotten older, it's getting harder. Oh I drool over cotton and even more bamboo or alpaca. I'm so over acrylic. LOL Yarn room... Oh, your thought process... tempting. Unfinished death wish, my daughter added writers. Anyway, she said that if someone finishes the projects I leave behind, it'll set me free.
I'm way more of a knitter than a crocheter but i feel ya on reading charts, a lot of patterns with neat lacework use them in lieu of writing out the stitiches and i have to close the pattern and cry a little bit because i have tried to read them but my brain just refuses to Also i actually find untangling yarn relaxing (so long as my cat isn't trying to 'help') granted i'm also the type of person who has fun putting together ikea furniture Also also i've never mistook a yarn scrap for a bug but I did see a piece of extra chunky chenille yarn on the floor and at 5 am with only one little light on, the way it was coiled looked like my cat had left me a present despite having two perfectly clean litter boxes to use.
Weaving in ends as you go? Absolutely, yes. But no. Accepting that not doing that is making things more difficult for myself? Also no. I am who I am 🤷🏽♀️😂🧶
I guess everyone knows when you are working with black yarn to have a white piece of paper or white cloth under it will make it a lot easier to see the stitches.
I can work with black yarn , very thin yarn , my fav is crocheting Thread , have some projects 'taking a break from ' is those r in TIME OUT , cuz I'm pissed at something on it , love the memes !! Fav is the hook lol yes plz another Sisters video !! That was a blast !! Thank You for another great video 📷 !! ❤ It !!
At the risk of showing my age, once a person reaches 40yo, working with black yard gets more difficult every year. I finally bought a special daylight lamp for my nighttime crochet seat. 😅
Hearing "candy" equals "lolly" threw me for a loop for a moment and I had to pause the video to figure it out 😂. I have never heard candy/sweets in general referred to as "lollies" in the entire time I've lived in the UK, so about a decade. Lollipops("lolly") are a specific candy in American English but we almost never say lolly unless it's one of those biiiig flat ones that look like something out of an early 20th century children's book. We say "sucker" "pop" or, and this one is stemming from the brand, "tootsie pop" because they're the most popular type. "Candy" or "sweet(old fashioned, more likely to be used by older generations)" refers to all types; soft, hard, taffy, lollipops, bars, et ctr. I think the word you're looking for is "sweet" because I know British English lolly refers to... actual lollipops too and "sweet" is generally used here instead. Did you mean actual lollies? I'm so confused over here.
Ahhh, the weird little differences in the English language lol. From the sounds of it, the way you're using 'candy' or 'sweet' is the way we use lolly (though 'sweet' or 'sweets' is definitely used by the older generation here too). It's kind of a catch-all word for small, sugary confectionery.
Haven't tried loom knitting before, it's one of those things that's been on my to-do list forever though. And I love the idea of making acoustic panels from crochet roses, they would look so pretty!

that is why i invested in a standing daylight lamp, so problems with black yarn now lol
I've heard that it's good to have one fun project, one easy project, and one slightly challenging project going at any given time
All this talk of weaving in ends reminds me of my first really big crochet project; a chevron afghan that changed colors ever eight rows. I am one of those people who find it both stressful and a way to reduce my anxiety. 😅

You mentioned the video of your sisters trying crocheting. Possibly doing a part 2. YES PLEASE! It was so funny I cried I was laughing so hard.
Yes, please! Part 1 was a riot!
So happy to see you feeling better❤❤❤❤❤
I have hand issues and I find having projects with a variety of stitches and moving from one to the next really helps me crochet longer with less pain. (one amigurumi, one granny, etc)
I don’t just have space on my couch for yarn. Doggies and kitties too!😂😂
True, you've got to leave room for them! 😂
I would choose both chocolate and crochet. They go hand in hand
I would not crochet with chocolate covered hands though XD
So... I would probably choose chocolate over crochet.

Weaving in the ends is so real

I agree. Chronic pain ruins everything..
Same.

That first one is me. My daughter always tells me I take up the whole couch 😂
11:33 my mom thought a piece of yarn was a bug a while back lol this meme made me think of that
I literally have 1 specific spot where I sit - and only at certain times of day - when I use black yarn.
2:27 “NO TOUCHY” Is a joke with in my family ❤❤

15:06 think my kids rooms will be well sound proofed, I'm currently working on a rug for the little one, done wall and roof hangings for the older...
I'm with you. Crochet > Chocolate/candy. I don't have a sweet tooth basically at all, though.
Happy Friday! ☺️🫶🏻🧶🧡
I'm laughing in fuzzy yarn 🤣😂😄😟😢 what the hell are stitches?
I've spent a few hours untangling yarn.
I have so many WIPs right now it's not even funny. Drown me in the yarn, and I have my first nibling on the way which makes this even more dramatic
That's really exciting! I hope you get to crochet All The Things for them.
I hide my ends immediately cause i hate seeing them
Chocolate or crochet? …….. Crochet, for sure. Chocolate, meh.
Crochet or fruit-flavored tootsie rolls? That is a hard choice.
Crochet over chocolate hands down!
I’m a Virgo I always frog 😂 they might not know it’s there but I do 🤣
depends on the quality of chocolate
100% agree.
Good point.
Chocolate or crochet? I put my WIP down to get some vegan Reese's at this point. 😅
Fun
❤❤❤❤❤❤
You mentioned your shoulder is bothering you, have you tried loom knitting? That's what I do when my hands or shoulders are bothering me.
Sound panels: I've made panels of crocheted roses for sound proofing with my scrap yarn... it's fun.
Haven't tried loom knitting before, it's one of those things that's been on my to-do list forever though. And I love the idea of making acoustic panels from crochet roses, they would look so pretty!
