- Hello everyone,
in today’s video I will show you how I am transforming our Ikea Pax wardrobe from non functional into a functional with one big "before and after" and one smaller.
When we’ve planned our wardrobe years ago, I wanted my part to be closer to the window. I hoped for have a better light back then, what I didn’t think was, that the door is slightly blocking the light anyway and in front of the doors there always stays the chair. You see, I have to move it every single time when I want to get a piece to dress. More than this, I placed me lingerie in this dresser next to the window. That way, the best accessible place got the clothes which I am wearing the least. In addition, with a time the glass door begun to fall apart, not sure why, maybe because of the glass weight and on top of that I got tired always seeing the stuff behind it, so I intended to change them. And one more thing I wanted it’s a better place for store the shoes and the bags.
And then it turned in kind of disaster: we had to get all 7 new door instead of planned 3, because Ikea disconnected the design that we had. And honestly, I can't tell what they have improved there so significantly, but it was enough that the door didn't look the same. If I knew it forehead, I would probably had chosen a different design, but hey, we got completely fresh look and in the end it looks great!
The next I thought that when I am already into a makeover mood, I can also change the wire drawers on the same go into a timber colour just like our frames. But they weren't all the time on stock, so we went on the drawer hunt, because the internet and database at the warehouse said two different stories. We visited two Ikeas in Belgium and in Germany 4 times in total and here is finally a final look in this video.
I want to say a big thanks to my mom, who visited us in this period and helped me a lot. But honestly, it was also the reason why I didn't make the videos - I hadn't a head for it...

Well hello again! I’ve missed you so much this winter. It’s amazing how much lighter the room appears without the nook shadow. I’m so jealous that you are tall enough to reach the top shelves. I have step stools everywhere. We are considering ripping out a built in closet that wastes space in our bedroom. This was perfectly timed!!!

I love that chair! Never get rid of it! The snow coming down was so beautiful! The new handles on the nightstand and closet are very nice. Your sweet kitty was wanting to help. Haha! I definitely like the new closet. It is well organized and all items are easy to access without moving a chair! Lol! I did spy that yellow handbag that I love!

The new closet is amazing. And when you are able to dress easily, it makes life seriously less stressful. IKEA does require infinite patience though. ❤. Enjoy. I forgot- is it Katze approved? She supervised the install pretty good though. 😊

From the big wardrobe, I really like the end result, but I will miss those knobs on the bedside tables, it was just so funky! But lately I have been wanting something more streamlined too, not sure why...is this the after effects of COVID that we looked at our stuff so much and got bored of it?

so great to see you - and of course katze! - again! i absolutely love the wardrobe make over. it looks streamlined, elegant and really well put together. we‘ve bought several NORDLI dressers over a period of 2 years from IKEA and the drawer fronts are all different shades of white. 🙄 unfortunately we‘d only noticed once everything was put together and now i tell myself every morning „it‘s just a trick of the light. it‘s just a trick of the light. it‘s just a trick of the light…“ one of these days i might actually believe myself. 😉

Hey Jolita! I love your channel. I live in the US in Washington State, (near Seattle if you've ever heard of it), and my great grandfather immigrated here from Lithuania and kept the bloodline going. My last name is Bartkus and I've NEVER seen anyone in my country with it, so I'm just curious if it's a common name in Lithuania or if it's unique? Any type of reply is much appreciated. :)
Hi, Breezy! Sorry for late replay! We were away to Lithuania.
Bartkus isn't the most popular name in Lithuania, however it's not unusual. There are also famous people us, even one of Miss Lithuania has the surname Bartkute. My father's family is coming from the South West part of Lithuania.
I don't know whether you are familiar with how Lithuanian names are made, but if the father is Bartkus, mother can be Bartkuvienė or Bartkienė or now for some years also Bartkė and the daughter is Bartkutė or also Bartkė. And all together they are Bartkai. I have chosen a masculine form after I left to Lithuania.

Traditionally here in the states, us women change our maiden name to our partners' after marriage.
Mine is Bartkus, but I married a Milton.
My husband and I both personally dislike Milton, so he hasn't pressured me in to adopting it as my own. 😂
Milton is very British which makes us both laugh as my husband is actually primarily Spanish, but his family tree became a little confused along the way.

Could it be that the older IKEA doors have simply changed colour a little with age and because it happened slowly over the years you didn't notice it?
Good point, April, of course they did! They were milk white and got kind of yellow- ish. If it was just for that reason I would have gotten three new doors and then paint all of them. But the problem is that it was changed the distances between panelling and the new door middle panel is now larger than the old one and also the side desks are different width. I honestly don't get what they have improved there, but it turned different enough for the doors look simple not the same design. 🙈
I have to ask... did the big brown bear that Christian was hugging in IKEA go home with you? Has Katze now got a rival? 😉
No, April, we are not bringing home everything Christian is hugging on, but we are going to Ikea quite often and he can hug all the toys as long as he wish 🤣🤣

This chair together with the rest 5 and the sofa + tea table + mirror was in my husband's family for almost 150 years. We haven't just the mirror, but the rest of a "glorious past" is trapping us into. 🙈
