Open shelves are ok 😊 but it really depends on the weather and pollution around your area. Dust, general smell in and around the house (cooking, room fragrance, smoke, etc.), and humidity are my biggest worries. But if don’t experience those issues, open shelves would be great!
Exactly. I live in the Israeli Southern district AKA Judaean Desert. Although I live in a 100% urban environment, the amount of sandstorms and dry atmosphere we sometimes have is a no-go for Open closet. Oh, and we have an extremely beloved cat 🐈😺 which really loves closet. So.. not for me :)
I use the Pax system along our entire master bedroom wall instead of a dresser to cut down on wasted space. I LOVE it!! It's beautiful and clean looking. I ended up converting my small walk-in master closet to a cute office. Gave us so much more space 😊 We do have doors on ours to cut down on dust and give us a streamlined look since it's in our bedroom.
Thank you so so much for sharing! I also used to have PAX, but when I was moving I had a bad experience with the movers, they damaged PAX and other IKEA furniture, and I ended up selling this furniture because I was very upset☹. What I would like to advise, I strongly advise you to install doors. For example, the things that were behind the doors - everything has always been not dusty. Everything that was in open storage quickly gathered dust. I don’t know what conditions you have, dear Eileen, (maybe by you the dust accumulates in a different way), but I came to the conclusion that everything should be stored closed, with the exception of items like vases with fresh flowers of course and such. And yes, PAX is unstable, but in general, it is sure a good choice and when I had PAX, everything looked minimalist with the doors closed, so this is also a plus you get from installing the doors, as you rightly noted. It is a pity that you encountered defects, everything, unfortunately, always needs to be checked, and I understand how unpleasant it was for you to find defects. And so great that you can assemble everything yourself, wow🌷🌷, I myself can't assemble.
I love Ikea closets. I suggest putting the doors as the dust will settle on your clothes and bags, not to mention smells from cooking etc. To look at your items, just open the door! Enjoy your new closet, looks great!
Hi Eileen, your closet is a bit fancier than mine but I did a similar thing in the existing large bedroom closet that was already in my co op apartment. There are 3 hanging rods. I had my super lower all of them. I had him add a whole row of shelves from floor to ceiling to hold my purses. I bought a not too big cabinet with 4 drawers to hold all my cashmere and it fit perfectly into a back corner of my wardrobe. My favorite part of my closet is that I REMOVED ALL THE SLIDING DOORS! I just hated them, they were continually off the track and I had to get the super to put them back on the track maybe 50 times. Really. I felt they were ruining my life so I had him take them down this summer and put up a long curtain rod and hang up beautiful curtains instead. It’s life changing. I can walk in and out, see everything, and yet it’s still covering up my things inside. I totally love it.
I like to think of myself as a bit of an IKEA pax expert, as I have had over 20 of these units…..In my opinion the quality is less than it was a few years ago, the mirrored doors aren’t as solid as they once were, but on saying that it’s a great system and if you have the space to build each unit as you make it, it’s not that hard to get them in in a short space of time. The design process is very easy, I never bothered with their online design feature. TIP for anyone thinking of getting PAX: Just measure your walls width/height and also the depth that you require “twice/3times, just to be on the safe side”, and take into account should you add doors and drawers they will open up into your room, so they need space to come out. Measure as if those doors were attached to the unit and open. I would also recommend the taller units out of the two if you have the ceiling height. It also helps if you measure your longest items of clothing ON the hangers, and tallest boots/bags to give you the idea of your requirements.
Bravo Eileen! It looks great and I love how easy it is to access everything. Lots of room for your clothes to hang nicely and to show your bags. Even if you put doors on them it will be great. It will keep out the dust and keep everything fresher too. Great job!
I am also re organizing my closet and bought a similar system from Wayfair, I cannot wait to put it together with my husband. I also started a RUclips channel for my small minimalist collection of luxury handbags. Thanks for sharing Eileen.
Hi Eileen, When I saw your recent videos featuring your new wardrobe, I knew straight away it was from IKEA, cos I used the same one, and loving it! Watching you putting it together reminded me of how I did it too. It’s alot of assembling to do but was done with anticipation & excitement. Mine was bolted into the wall by hubby, so it’s quite sturdy. My sister uses the same one. It was her who told me about IKEA PAX. I remembered asking her for the phone number of whoever built her wardrobe lol. She mixes hers up with open & closed sections, glass doors, glass cabinets for her jewellery…it looks really nice & modern (and may I say expensive!) Maybe you could adopt that approach since yours runs quite long… Mine is limited to my existing walk-in wardrobe space, hence it is totally open (no doors). The glass cabinet for my jewellery collection is the highlight for me. Building that wardrobe was the best thing we did during Covid lockdown. Looks like you are enjoying yours too xox
No Doors! They're not needed when you use the whole room as a closet! I had everything fitted in my closet when the house was built & then there is a regular size door that I can shut after I leave the "Closet Room"! Close sets aren't confined to the old Victorian Wardrobe Style anymore! Closets are clean & modern ROOMS that have fitted Shelves & Drawers along the walls! You have the most updated closet design desired! Good Job! Best of all YOU are Happy with it & have the Satisfaction of DIY. 😊💐🇺🇸
It seems like u read my mind! I just had my pax delivered today specifically for bags display too! I have 2 other pax as well but w sliding door (mirrored on one half) wear i store clothes ❤️ had that for years and it held well! loving your configuration!
It's lovely Eileen and the clean lines make your items pop. Now as far as doors, that's strictly up to you. It looks wonderful as is. If there were any concerns, it would be Dust & Fading from the window but you can be the judge of that. Enjoy! 🎀✨️
Well done my dear Eileen! Thanks for sharing. I live in an old, Victoriany house. Closets are quite different. My bags are in dust’s bag in high shelves, so I have to tip toed as well. Take care and GB
I like the open look if it's a room dedicated as a closet and there are no major issues with dust, humidity, etc. Personally the extra holes bother me visually so I'd cover those (I believe they sell many solutions specifically for this purpose which doesn't affect the flexibility of the system if you want to change it later).
Hello Eileen, the Pax system is very good in organizing, but without doors the things get dusty . You can leave the doors open if you want, but I really advise to have doors. They keep dust away and give a more tidy look. Enjoy 😘
Hi Eileen, have you considered installing the sliding doors and leaving one or two panels open to expose the drawers section with your decorations cactus or your bag section? That way you have flexibility and can leave closed or open as you wish xxx
I would definitely go with doors on the new wardrobe for the preservation factor alone. I know you rotate your pieces in wearing quite well, but there will still be some things that won't come out as much and that can leave them susceptible to sun-bleaching (which can still happen just for the way of regular hanging positions), pollen staining, or even just the weekly accumulation of dust. It's nice to be able to see everything all at the once, but it's nicer to know your stuff is still there and preserved behind a barrier of protection. 😉
Thank you so much for filming this. I have been considering putting a few of these pieces in my bedroom and this was really helpful. I am not sure about the open wardrobe. It looks fantastic but if it attracts as much dust as my bookshelves then I would be getting doors.
Hey Eileen, love your videos as always and that wonky shelf made me laugh (you have a cute laugh btw 😊). Love the ikea look - clean and affordable! I would recommend putting glass doors just where your bag sits to avoid dust and atleast with glass you can still enjoy looking at your collection (I believe Ikea has the glass door with white trimming on side so looks elegant) but of course go with what you're happy with 😊 xo
I think it’s nice to have it open because you can appreciate the things you have and also easy takeout and put back in. Sometimes we forget all the things we have because it isn’t right in front of us. But I also think it’s nice to have doors so things don’t get dirty or dusty. Maybe clear glass door would help with that lol When I think of having a layout closet like that I think of having the glass door. So I see everything I own and also keep them protected from getting dirty or dusty.
I would definitely put doors on if it were me as I have to furry/fluffy dogs that shed constantly and stir up dust. I like what you've done though, the adaptability of it is a great plus. I'd find some really pretty storage boxes that you could put at the top instead of making it a fitted finish.
I prefer doors for the protection and the cleaner look. Maybe glass doors for the handbags as others have suggested? Also where is that brown lounge set from? It's super cute! Best of luck!
I recommend keeping the system without doors! It helps to keep your wardrobe edited and everything tidy. Plus I’ve made some really great outfits that I wouldn’t have thought of had some items been hidden away.
Personally I’d have doors for the prevention of dust gathering and settling. Are there doors with glass panels? Then you could have the best of both worlds.
Take a look at Chase Amies ikea fitted wardrobes as she and her husband Dan made them look like fitted wardrobes. I think it was about a year ago or do she uploaded it on RUclips when they bought their current house. I think she said it was around £1000 total. It came out looking so great!😊
Eileen, if you’re happy with the look of your wardrobe that’s all that matters especially if you’re finding it easy to reach for everything. The look as is is fine, I personally like the look. Hoping this helped.
I can't wait to get into our retirement home, so that I can really put a closet in. Currently, my things are in two separate rooms and I would love to change that.
I love watching all your videos every Monday but I don't quite know why because we have absolutely nothing in common. I love your new wardrobe but I don't think that you will like having 2 doors because you will only be able to see half at a time. Three doors would be better then you get to see two thirds at one time. Mirror doors are fantastic and make the room look twice the size. If it was me I would not have doors at all. Good luck. Xx
I have all my wardrobes, kitchen made to size, could not change them to open not fitted Ikea wardrobes. Its the question of coherence (one pays attention to clothes should also pay attention to interior). Moreover, what’s important to me is the mental clutter open wardrobes would create…not acceptable.
I think the Ikea Pax looks cheap without the doors. it looks like a rectangle box. I think I would add doors and nice handles so it won't look like Ikea. Love your Hermes bags. My wardrobe cost me about 1.5 Hermes bags so I don't have Hermes bags. Only Chanels now.
Get the doors but with glass 😉 your items will free from dust and you would still see the things being inside.👏👏 great job! 🌹
❤️❤️

Omg I can imagine how frustrating the must have been! Glad it was sorted it xx
I like the look of sliding doors, it just makes the space look clean and decluttered when closed.
❤️

Dear Eiileen, it's lovely and efficient!
Thank you xx
If this room is basically your closet, then it's like a walk in closet, so no need for doors and the open look is nice!
❤️❤️
This was such a helpful video Eileen! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!xx
Love the new shelving
❤️❤️

Well done my dear Eileen! Thanks for sharing. I live in an old, Victoriany house. Closets are quite different. My bags are in dust’s bag in high shelves, so I have to tip toed as well. Take care and GB
I borrowed Isaac’s little stool and it worked really well 🙈

Eileen, you are very talented!!! I really love your IKEA PAX without doors.
Thank you ❤️
I think you guys did a fantastic job. And the open Ikea pax closet looks much nicer God bless...❤️💃🏻💙
I would definitely add doors from my previous experiences. good job! I really like the IKEA PAX wardrobe
Thank you for sharing xx

I just got it on and put it together. Best tip is to get the small ikea drill… life changing 🎉

You get to spend time with your hubby fixing up the cabinet❤❤ > that’s precious!
It was quite a project and we had loads of laughters too lol xx
Thank you so much for filming this. I have been considering putting a few of these pieces in my bedroom and this was really helpful.
I am not sure about the open wardrobe. It looks fantastic but if it attracts as much dust as my bookshelves then I would be getting doors.
It looks beautiful I love Ikea products. My old house was almost fully furnished with Ikea furniture and it lasted very well ❤😊
Like so much open shelves ( I have) , but I think that sliding doors can protect so much better your wonderful items 😉🌷
❤️❤️
I do love Ikea because as you pointed out it can grow with you over the years.
It’s so flexible too xx

My Monday morning routine ❤… #fromSG you are my inspiration and always give me back on track of life goal. Thank you!
Personally I’d have doors for the prevention of dust gathering and settling. Are there doors with glass panels? Then you could have the best of both worlds.
I couldn’t seem to order glass panels but it’s definitely worth looking into xx
Do you have any advice for pearl care? I wear my pearl pieces a lot less because I’m scared of damaging them by perfume or scratches
Where do you put your shoes?
I would cover some of the closet with doors and leave the ones with bags open. ❤
Thank you for sharing xx
I like the design of the open shelves walk-in closet but dust, smell and discoloration might be issues without the doors.
All good points, thank you for sharing your thoughts xx

OMG!😂 we’ve so many things in common besides height! I’ve the same small white/green stool from IKEA. It’s a shorties thing I guess. 😂
❤️❤️
I suggest you install the doors. Dust is really an issue.
I will try this. My only grievance with ikea is the universal instructions. I want more detailed instructions.
I’m the same! It would have taken me much longer if not for my husband cx
@@ColourfulNoir I plan on having my hubby put it together lol.
I like your style and idia
Thank you so much 😊
I like doors because I like a clean space.
❤️
I can't wait to get into our retirement home, so that I can really put a closet in. Currently, my things are in two separate rooms and I would love to change that.
Looks good! 😊 But I’m weary of IKEA unless you have alot of time and skills 😅
❤️
No doors! I love my own space open, convenient.
❤️❤️
I like the look of open closets too, and I have them in my bedroom. But honestly, it collects too much dust to my liking
Thank you for sharing xx
Closed doors ☺️ You can open them when you feel like it and close when you don't.
Thank you xx
How much did it cost u?

Open up! All your beloved items are saying to you: Hey, we are here!.
Open shelves in this room, I think.
Thanks for sharing xx
No doors please. You have beautiful items to show.
🤍
These days walk in closets ARE small bedrooms.
You haven’t got many clothes.
By design ❤️ I downsized heavily. It’s nice to own only what I use xx
I like your closet without the door. 🥹😍
