  • For nearly 7,000 years, high elven society centered on the sacred Sunwell, a magical fount that was created using a vial of pure arcane energy from the first Well of Eternity. Nourished and strengthened by the Sunwell’s potent energies, the high elves’ enchanted kingdom of Quel’Thalas prospered within the verdant forests north of Lordaeron.
During the Third War, however, the high elves were nearly scoured from Azeroth. Led by the death knight Arthas, a Scourge army stormed into Quel’Thalas, slaughtering almost ninety percent of the kingdom’s population. Arthas then used the mystical Sunwell to resurrect the fallen necromancer Kel’Thuzad, irrevocably tainting the fount in the process.
Fearing that the befouled well would obliterate his dwindling race, Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider gathered a group of Quel’Thalas’s defenders and destroyed the fount to avert catastrophe. Although the high elves were spared from continued exposure to the Sunwell’s dark energies, in the fount’s absence they suffered terribly from withdrawal. As a result, Kael’thas desperately searched for a means to help his people-whom he had renamed the blood elves-and thus he set out for the shattered world of Outland...

_"Nine of every ten of us. Slain by Arthas Menethil to raise that lich. Our noble kingdom, all but erased. You still bleed, do you not? Cut your flesh and count the drops of blood. Let nine fall and soak the earth for every one you save. Tell me what that does to your heart. For I can tell you precisely what it did to mine. Survival often felt more like a burden than a blessing. I did everything I could think of to keep our people strong. But perhaps the path I took was..."_ _- Kael'thas Sunstrider_

_This is where the end began._
_My company was patrolling the forests near Zul'Aman when we received word of the Scourge invasion. We were wholly unprepared for what we encountered. Quel'Thalas had enjoyed years of idyllic peace. And suddenly, we were facing death itself. I lost my eye in that battle... and would have lost my life were it not for Halduron._
_Words cannot describe the devastation our people suffered that day. That any of us survived to tell the tale is a miracle. One that we cannot afford to waste._
      ...
      _The next memory..._
_Forgive me. For many of our people, it was when we realized death was coming for us._
      ...
_Sylvanas Windrunner was our kingdom's protector. Had she and her rangers not met Arthas with such fierce resistance, our people might no longer exist. She paid the ultimate price so that enough of us might escape to rebuild our fallen kingdom. When Arthas raised her as a banshee and turned her against Quel'Thalas, it broke all our hearts.._
_I've had my share of disagreements with Sylvanas... But I will never forget her sacrifice. She was the Ranger-General of Silvermoon. Nothing will ever change that._
      ...
_While the monument here was intended to honor the fallen members of the Shattered Sun, it quickly took on a second meaning for the sin'dorei. It was not far from here that we lost one of our greatest heroes: Anasterian Sunstrider, the last king of Quel'Thalas. [...]_
_For thousands of years, the Sunwell meant everything to our people. [...] My faith was shattered when Silvermoon fell. I lost sight of who I was. But by the grace of the Light, I found redemption [...]_
_No matter how much pain we endure, we will not lose hope. In the face of darkness, look always to the Eternal Sun._
      ...
_Remember the Sunwell. We ride into battle with those words for a reason. We lost so much that day... I lost so much that day._
      ...
_Always remember that our people are not defined by tragedy, but by our ability to overcome it. From the ashes of the past, we carry the flame of hope into the future._

My first character was a blood elf and the music of Silvermoon will always have a special place in my heart. 2:20 with the deep melody, takes me back to my first time playing WOW and all of the fun experiences I've had playing WOW. Blood elves were also my reason for switching to the Horde back in the day. What I love about them is that (in pre-cata at least, don't know about the next extensions) they feel like their own faction. They're not in the Alliance, but they're not accepted in the Horde neither, and they only got in because Sylvanas used to be a blood elf and she's the faction leader. The other horde races are waiting for us to prove we're not weaklings by overcoming our current crisis. The Alliance rejected us, but while we joined the Horde, they won't help us, so we resent them just as well. This is so refreshing in a two-faction game!

WoW Soundtracks have never quite been the same since WOTLK. Whilst Cataclysm's music is objectively 'good', the music for the old world zones was too dramatic and orchestrial at times. This trend continued. MOP was a bit of a tangent as it was very Asian infused, but throughout WOD, Legion and so on soundtracks have got more and more busier. It is not as pleasant to listen to. Vanilla-WOTLK had this style of soundtrack that just got lost after Wrath, maybe they changed composer. But the early WoW music feels really unique and has its own style, whereas BFA's soundtrack could be lost amongst the plethora of other fantasy game soundtracks that have come out in the past decade.

    • @LameMule
      @LameMule 3 года назад +6

@@tonythesopranos5310 Many of the old composers are still very much involved in the soundtracks, as they've been since the beginning, though some to a lesser extent, with the exception of Glenn Stafford and Russel Brower who've remained mainstays across the breadth of releases. You're right about a change in composers, however, in that there have been many different composers involved throughout the various expansions, especially since MoP, with the additional touches of David Arkenstone across many tracks since Wrath. What you heard in WoD was largely the influence of Clint Bajakian's direction, wanting to encapsulate that almost urgent, boisterous, adventurous sound that permeates the entirety of WoD's atmosphere and music which I personally think is excellent all around, one of the game's strongest soundtracks by far, followed closely by Legion and Mists. WoD seems to have been a one-off kind of deal, much like the entire expansion itself, never to be done like that again.
You're definitely right that the sound changed after Wrath. I would disagree somewhat about BfA, however, as I'm not sure it would be entirely lost. Their weakest soundtrack so far, it still had some distinct gems in the jumble of themes and motifs that stand out against a lot of the usual fantasy soundscapes of other IPs.
Anyway, I enjoyed this ramble but I'll end it here.

@@tonythesopranos5310 Yes I have been saying this for years, and I don't understand why many of the composers felt the need to make WoW's music so intense and in the foreground instead of a soundtrack that helps you immerse into a zone.
I turn up the music in early WoW, I lower it in retail because it's so "in-your-face" I might as well just be focusing on the music alone.

From the Journal of Azetus, Master Mage of the Sin'dorei:
"I was just a boy when the Scourge attacked our homeland. My father, Ceverine, was one of the few warriors who survived that awful battle that lost us the Sunwell. His bravery in the face of that awful man clad in black armor is something I will always be proud of.
When I finally became a man, I joined the Silvermoon armies as a proud Battlemage of the Horde, following in my father's footsteps to defend my home from the Alliance that abandoned us. I never could have imagined that as soon as my three months of training had ended, the Legion would invade the Broken Isles. I fought beside my father throughout their invasion...
...until he lost his life on Argus.
For my efforts in the war, the Horde called me as a hero. My Regent Lord presented me with fabulous raiments to honor my newfound reputation, and even the Kirin Tor saw fit to make me a new Archmage. But while Silvermoon celebrates my victories, all I can think of is how my father deserved the honors I received far more than I did, and yet he will only be remembered as a warrior who died defending his home.
He deserves far more than that."

This whole soundtrack will always have a place in my heart, i don't miss TBC and WOTLK just for the quests, raids or PvP, but for THAT inexplicable feeling that gets you while you are doing a low level quest with some random people you just met ingame. That's something else man...

The day before my sisters death she was still playing wow. We played it since 2004… I remember when the blood elves arrived.. it was such a big event for us. It became our favorite race… we had so many characters. I still love the game but my sister played way more than I so it reminds me too much of her. Idk if I can still play it now that she’s gone

@@Everness1 As I've been working the past week and on a listening spree, I noticed almost all of the Ambience-only compilations have disappeared (there are still some from Skyrim posted on the channel).
Was this because of that stupid RUclips thing where it Disabled comments and videos because they were not child-safe or something?
Apologies for asking, it's just that, thanks to those helping myself and my GF with sleeping, she actually picked up WoW and we now play together. They were very soothing, in particular the winter ones like Dun Morogh or Storm Peaks, or the Jade Forest and Stranglethorn, and most of all the one with rain, in Gilneas.

Then after making multiple alts and having to level through this area over and over I got so tired of it I would mute and listen to pretty much any other music. Now hearing it again I feel the weirdest mix of annoyance and nostalgia.

I fumbled the run the first and second time because I got distracted by the heroic brass segment to actually do the bombing! Oh lord i love playing Bloodelf.
Their history, the scar by Arthas, Sylvannas, Kael'Thas, their comeback after almost being cleansed from Azeroth. All the lore this region has its epic, sad and emotional.
I always look in your videos if there is players running arround still, but i dont see none :(, like i wish they were there so it means WoW isnt near-death.
I would live on Eversong woods for eternity.
Remembering killing the Wretched on the port, seeing how my homeland started changing from beatiful and charming.. to this undead Ghostland, i was terrified the first time i get to Ghostlands, remembering the terror that happened on Warcraft 3, but then i got to Tranquilillien and cooled off, helping with the quests on the east (Farstrider Enclave), killing the nerubians at the Suncrown Village, then getting the necklace of Sylvannas.
    Thanks for the video Everness
