Michael Jordan: Two parents. James Worthy: Two parents. Having two parents to guide and mentor you, makes a huge difference.

I am back here after 4 years first time I watched this. I think still one of the most educating sportsman interview for me. Others might be more "motivating" interviews, but what James Worthy shared here, is life wisdom.

First time I saw James Worthy played was on 1984 when Lakers played the Celtics , I found this man was incredible player, I saw him played ever since, I am definitely a huge huge fan of him. Kudos to James..... great speaker great motivator.

    Larry Bird story @30:18
It’s amazing how many Lakers players (& Coaches!) were in awe of Larry Bird. Of the top of my head: Magic Johnson, Michael Cooper, James Worthy, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, & Pat Riley. Also Jerry West. Ive heard Shaq too.
So many greats of his era sing his praises. And rightly so. He’s MY TRUE GOAT 🐐

Smart Man. Listened and learned and was victorious.
His comment on he thought Larry Bird was arrogant until he learned he could back it up gave me a good laugh. In the 80's I was a huge Lakers fan.

I was a Celtics fan. We used to watch the Celtics Lakers championship games and a larger bar. When they announced the Lakers roster, the whole crowd would boo every Laker. Then, when they announced James Worthy, everyone would boo, except my friend and me. We'd cheer him and get dirty looks from everyone.

Now I know why Jordan's starting 5 includes Big James Worthy, instead of other well known hall of famers. Not only James Worthy were Jordan's senior in the same college, but James beat Jordan in 1 on 1 game. Might be it was Jordan in college era, but hey... how many people can actually beat Jordan in a 1 on 1 game? Even during his college era.
When Jordan picked James Worthy as his starting 5, Jordan acknowledged and respected James Worthy's skill. Worthy was not a much more dominating player than he did in LA, because Worthy realized that it was Magic's team and he needs to fit in in order to make a dynasty.

He had a lot in common with Michael Jordan. From the same state, similar cultural background, same college same team,...I always saw a bit of Worthy's game in MJ's game. I'm sure coming from the same state they knew of each other and had similar life experiences growing up. I always looked at James as Mike's older respected brother.

Worthy sheds great light on the benefits of team leaders on the forefront and behind the scenes to make a winning organization. But, damn, he did not throw anyone under the bus (but himself as a lone wolf) with a juicy story. He picked the under dog Indiana due to their work effort, defense and cohesive style. Yet, he didn't consider the intangibles of the best player(Bron) and the clutch scrambling ability of vets like Allen to be a stabilizing winning factor in hectic play. He hedged his bet by saying it was Miami's to lose.😊

Worthy mentions that it is easy to follow a guy like koby. But, koby could not get shaq to buy in to the leadership of mind and body preparation. Thus, Shaq came into the season fat and unprepared. Koby had no compassion for Shaq and his way of paying in to the season.

@@bowsershark I agree , Instead of Shaq making iit a conscious to keep his weight at 275 he balooned to 330 plus. Then come training camp then he would think about getting in shape. That's one of the reason why they have issues today, too much alike.Just like this Zion cat as compared to a Lebron.Zion had to get NBA ready where Lebron is never out of shape.Unless Zion decides he wants to be an athlete along all that God given he will just be another Barkley or Shaq. Instead of a Michael or lebron.

I think James misspoke and meant MJ was a better baseball player than basketball player coming out of HIGH SCHOOL not college. MJ was a great college basketball player, he led them to an NCAA title and was the 3rd overall pick behind Hakeem and Sam Bowie (lol). He was never highly regarded as a baseball player.

    • @kevingumfory

UNC was LED by James big game Worthy. Mj was a freshman. Worthy won the game jordan just made the final shot. Go watch the game. Worthy was 1st overall. Jordan didn't win anything after James moved on. Nor for yrs after that until the greats retired and nba watered down. The internet is free. Google is your friend.

@@kevingumforyI don't even remember this video and I'm not going to watch it all again. What did I say that was incorrect? MJ was not a better baseball player than basketball player coming out of college. He was the #3 pick in the draft. He was not a great baseball player. I never said MJ was a better college player than James Worthy. Are you drunk? Common sense is your friend, try it out.
