The most fun I've had in FM for YEARS was 'Nation Building' - I've joined Celtic and Dundalk, made it into Europe, built up the nation co-efficient to make more/better places in Europe available, and then inject money / loans / free players to other teams in your nation so that they are also able to make it into European powerhouses.
Celtic was fairly easy - it took ~10 seasons before Scotland was one of the major European leagues.
I'm still to this day playing my FM18 Dundalk save - I'm 9 years in and I've gotten to the stage where Shamrock Rovers / Limerick can win some European qualifiers but haven't made the jump yet.

I even managed to win the league in year 1 by 1 point over PSG. In my third year I have Szoboszlai, Tonali, Gravenberch, and Tammy Abraham leading my squad. Definitely give OM a try if you're looking for a fun save.

Milan is great. It’s my main save as of now. Finished second in my first season and got knocked out of the europa league in the last 16’s. Second season I won the Serie A with 101 points and won the champions league! This resulted in me losing some of my best players - including Leao, Donnarumma and Hernandez - blessed be their treacherous souls. My third season is not going as well as a result, as I’m trying to rebuild and fill the holes those beautiful disloyal players left me with.

Always get sucked into the Swedish leagues. Over the years played AIK, Goteborg, Hammarby, Helsingborg, Oster, BK Hacken and currently Stockholm Internazionale. Started as a relative equal top division where at least half the clubs could contend for the title after 1 off-season, way back in FM 13 or 14. In more recent games like in FM 20, Malmo is basically the top club which is a step above everyone else. Then you have the pack behind where most clubs can contend, but will lack the financial backing and fans excluding a couple of clubs. So you have to try to overthrow Malmo, while trying to keep the title, plus foreign clubs will send in relatively big money offers for your players. Which most of the time you'll have to try and squeeze as much money out of them as possible to fuel your clubs future young generation/transfers. So you can be competitive in the European competitions down the line. Plus it's a summer league which adds to the dynamic of trying to have a successful European campaign.

If you start in the presence, by the time you begin your 4th save, you just know so many good free agents and talents whose contracts are running out that it is kind of boring. Same for staff. Panathinaikos who used to play in the ucl every season( once reached ucl final, twice semifinals) is a nice save if you want to rebuild. Although they have a pretty good team for the greek championship, the real challenge is to establish them to the Champions League(which means you have to win the greek championship, because only the champion of Greece can play in the champions league 2nd qualification round, 2nd 3d and 4th can only play on Conference league). Also, a major problem for the club in real life is their stadium, when i pick them i try to build a new stadium for the club but it's too tough because of the economical situation that they're facing. Back in fm19 i believe, if you wanted to coach them you had to start with a 6 point deduction and a ban from European competitions

First job was Barnechea in Chile second tier. Little suburb of Santiago tucked against the Andes. No fan base to speak of lol. Got them promoted, was leading the league in my first year after promotion when I got hired by Rosario Central. Got them into Libertadores, then fell short due to an insane injury crisis but won the coach of the year, hired by River Plate. About 2 years each stop.
River is so much fun bc they have great youth intake, are a top club domestically of course, but then winning continental competitions is still hard bc Brazil -- but possible.
Planning on staying with River basically until I get a top half job with a Spanish or English club, maybe Europa or better in Germany or Italy...something like that.

An idea for a fallen giant save is Swedish side IFK Göteborg (Gothenburg). In the 80's and 90's they dominated the Swedish league and were a strong force in Europe as well. Semifinalists of the European cup in 1986, won their CL-group in 1994 beating Man Utd, Barcelona and Galatasaray and of course their two UEFA Cup-titles from 82 and 87. Nowadays they are that frustrating team in no mans land in Allsvenskan. The occasional gems are often sold for nothing to Holland or Belgium. If you start a save now you have a talented squad mixed with experienced homecomers, decent finances and the initial boost of Marek Hamsik who is under contract until the end of august 2021. Enjoy!

I did dynamo Dresden. I love German football, especially the atmosphere in the stadiums. I got hooked to Dresden because of their chant "Öst öst öst Duetchland" translates to East, East, east Germany. The fans are basically saying that they want the east Germany clubs to be feared by all other clubs. I ended up having an all German team and won the treble in 2045.
    Best save ive ever done

My favourite repeat save is to start unemployed and always take every job offer throughout the save unless it is Manchester United. It tends to be continuous chaos, and it forces me to consider a wide range of tactical approaches due to the different squads.

In Spain or rather Asturias in a very non biased way I'd recommend two teams. One would be Real Sporting de Gijón, sitting in the second division it has three interesting players in midfield: Gragera (DM), Pedro Diaz (your classic DLP) and Manu (AM) and potentially decent youngsters with Guille Rosas, Morilla, Santamaría and Dacal. With a decent fanbase (bigger than a fair chunk of teams in the first division) for a "small" club, good installations and a historic stadium is a potentially sleeping giant a la Leicester. The second would be Lealtad, if you enjoy the grind is a semiprofessional team with a sick badge and black kit and that's enough for me.

I'm just here to recommend a building a nation save with Ireland. I'll be honest its a bit painful at the start but its satisfying when you become the best team in the league. I've so far gotten to place 16 in the coefficient rankings. 15th place has 2 ucl spots, 1 europa league place and 2 europa conference league. This is also the first fm save i have ever done and im currently in 2044 so i could have done better 😅😅

    My last favorite saves.
Bari. Loaded them with uruguyans, croats, serbs, slovaks, nice stadium.
Wrexham. Many league games, possible many cups runs. Tried to contribute for their national welsh team.
Cartagena. nice looking badges, uniforms, less restriction to buy south american regens, fight barcelona and real.

I have tried international management with India. The problem is I see no way to improve facilities in India so I stand no chance of improving the nation as a whole by myself. The only way I see it being possible is taking over the best team available and then slowly upgrade their facilities and hope they get me something. I would love to have like a special National Team training/youth facilities, would be a game changer for me

I have an interesting build a team save. If brommapojkarna in swedens third division is regarded as one of europes top youth academies compeeting with teams like real, Barcelona Zagreb etc. up to the age of 15-16. Yet somehow all these young players never seems to prosper in pro football. there are som decent young players on the team with great first touch and passing to build the team around
