SMW ǀ Unintended Item Spawning ǀ Grey Platform [RTA]

This is my attempt at a tutorial explaining how to get a Rex in the item box in Super Mario World. Super Mario World is a notoriously glitchy game, allowing the player to go beyond what was intended by the game designers. Normally, the item box can only hold either a Mushroom, a Fire Flower or a Feather. However, depending on Mario Power Status and the ‘Power-Up items’ being absorbed, unintended items can be spawn in the item box.

This glitch requires to perform extensively the Powerup Incrementation glitch to change Mario’s Powerup States (PS, see • SMW ǀ Unintended Power... and • SMW ǀ X-Position Indic... for tutorials). Here, using the Powerup Incrementation glitch, bring Mario to PS 46. PS 46 allows to get a Grey Platform in the Item box when collecting a 1Up-Mushroom. When collecting the 1Up-Mushroom, PS 46 also yields Star Power!. This platform can be seen in Donut Plains 3 as the Triple Grey Rotating Platforms. Unintendedly spawned Grey Platforms tend be not so glitchy lookin’! One notable exception is in Bowser’s Castle, where the Grey Platform looks like a spider web… Also in Bowser’s Castle, the Icon sprite is a cool Bowser side face not seen normally in the game! At the end, it is not so useful to have a Grey Platform, but it’s fun nevertheless!
Powerup State 44 can be used to get a Giant Green Gas Bubble in the Item box if collecting a 1Up-Mushroom (see • SMW ǀ Unintended Item ... for tutorial).

My setup: I use an original Japanese Super Mario World cartridge played on a Super Retro Trio 3 Console (PAL version); I thus played in Real-Time Attack [RTA] without Saved States. Video and sound captured using an ‘EasyCAP’ USB adapter (S-signal) and ‘OBS’ software. Video editing done using Shotcut software.

I Got the chuck in the item box instead of a Gray platform in the item box.

Hi Miki! Very interesting! I guess it is another difference between the Japanese and US versions of SMW. I ask Santa-Claus this Christmas for a US SMW...;) I'll be able to do some videos on the US SMW and show these differences. Thanks for the comment! All the best!
