I recently tried the glitchedworlds hack on the SMB1 ROM, and I also found out about the death logic in cloud worlds that you found in this stream. If you look, it also keeps the timer going. My guess is that this was the easiest way for them to override the "falling into a pit" logic that exists in all other parts of the game.

Kosmic I recently started speed running smb1 and I am having some issues in 8-1. A little bit before you get the star you got 2 goombas but I am getting 3 goombas is that RNG dependent or do you have to do something to get only 2 goombas

(Btw, glitch levels sometimes change because the level data is read from out of bounds, also for example the level that resembled to 1-1, basically it was 1-1 desynced, and then synced up again, but the enemy data is again read from OoB, and it just spawns random firebars. The only thing that's actually right is piranha plants, because any pipe spawns a piranha plant when loaded.)
For anyone who wants to play through more lost levels, you can also change the value of 0760:?? to play a different level or 075F:?? to play a different world. The codes are surprisingly more simple than the original Super Mario Bros game on the NES. (Not all worlds work from what it seems.)

This game has much better glitch levels. I'd see keep it up with this one. If my math is right, there's well over 100,000 levels too so it's basically like endless content.
Maybe you don’t lose a life in coin heaven because you have to fall off the map to spawn out of the map, so they disabled losing lives? Idk just speculation.

no it's reading all the non level data in the game as level data (looking outside of the normal bounds of level data in memory)
