    I've been listening to this song for 43 years and only recently (like a year ago) learned that that 'sound effect' you like so much? is John whispering "Shoot Me". And given how he died 10 years later, it has forever changed how I hear this song. It downright gives me goosebumps - and not always the good kind. Makes you wonder if Lennon hadn't recorded that sound effect, whether he'd still be alive today.

    This song is damn near perfect. Each component adds up to make this a superb song; the drums setup an easy yet pleasurable groove, the bass amplifies the feel--especially the double notes played with each verse, the guitar is smooth with a slight distortion and is not overpowering but rather fills in just at the right spots and of course the excellent singing seals the whole deal. I've had the pleasure of hearing this tune since it was first released and have yet to grow weary of it. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.

    In early July 1969 while driving in Scotland, John and Yoko were in a serious car accident. It forced John to miss several weeks of recording sessions for what became the Abbey Road album. Upon his return the last week of July, John brought the song Come Together to the studio. John was particularly rude to Paul. Telling Paul he didn't want Paul to sing harmony or play piano on the track. Paul, instead of making a scene, simply left the studio for the day. As the days passed Paul wrote the electric piano line for the solo while John watched over Paul's shoulder. Paul did end up singing the harmony on the song, when John wasn't present in the studio. Such was the tension between John and Paul by this time. The unofficial break up of the Beatles was only weeks away. Great reaction JAYY!! I loved it. Cheers, RNB

Ringo doesn’t get enough credit for that amazing and creative drumming. Keep it up honey 🌺✌️

  • @CW_9
    @CW_9 11 месяцев назад

    Morbidly, that sound is John whispering “shoot me”, during Ringo’s muffled, cloth covered drum fill. Reminds me of the echoed vocal sample in ‘1979’ by Smashing Pumpkins.
    Edit: The two examples are reminiscent of each other, in my opinion, because they’re both creative ways of adding a subliminal hook to the song. I’m not saying I think they sound alike or anything. Two completely different songs.

    Anybody who lived at the time this was made knows that the schussing sound thing is mimicking what we all heard when we dial a rotary telephone. Somebody is dialing a phone, trying to come together start a discussion with another person over the phone. 😀 📞

    I grew up with this music. There's a lot to love about this song, but one thing I always liked about it is the use of guitar distortion just before "over me". The first time I heard that, I thought the song was poorly engineered. Then I realized that it was done intentionally for effect. Cool!

  • @Code9
    @Code9 2 года назад +2

    I remember being told this song started out to be a campaign song for Timothy Leary's run for governor of California. The phrase, "Come Together" was Leary's campaign slogan. Can't remember the details of what all happened except that Leary was imprisoned on a marijuana charge before the campaign had a chance to take off. In any case, since there wasn't going to be a need for the song any longer, Lennon then just wrote a bunch of nonsense lyrics around the campaign slogan "Come Together". In terms of the lyrics I always thought of it as a "stream of consciousness" thing that fit right into the psychedelic vibe of the times. The kind of thing you could listen to, nod your head thoughtfully and mutter something like "Far out, man. That's heavy", and everyone would just nod in agreement with you even though it was completely meaningless.

    At one time the Beatles were quite influenced by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Later they became more sceptical about him. This song sounds to me like it was about him or someone like him.
