I am a head banger , who cried hearing this song.
The Beatles did so much for music ! Where would the world of music be without them, i just don't know.
John's voice is haunting on this track, and i think just hearing him sing, is what broke me .
Still a head banger who loves his Judas Priest , but today horns are down with respect and love for the band that changed everything for us !
    Love your work mate !
    Cheers from down under !

I lost it. Ugly. Guitar gently weeping. The whole thing. These four....what they dreamt, what they attempted, what they achieved, what they leave behind, how they live on forever, and how they are, simultaneously, gone forever, and yet now of the ages. Damn you Beatles. Thank you, Beatles.

John was sitting at his piano and he wrote Now and Then in 1976. After he was murdered, Yoko gave the cassette tape to Paul because John had put a note on the tape “For Paul”. Paul, George, and Ringo tried working on this when they worked on the anthology, but they couldn’t get rid of the background noise. Peter Jackson, who did Get Back, cleaned it up, got John’s voice to be clear, and added all the clips. Some are from old Beatles music videos. George is playing the guitar. Paul is playing the slide guitar as a tribute to George as Paul said his George song is Maw Wa Blues. This was on George’s last album called Brainwashed. Giles Martin, George Martin’s son, did the arrangement of the strings.

Song 50 years in the making.
    Lennon Piano/Vocals from the 70s
    Harrison Guitar/Vocals from the 90s.
    Starr Drums/Vocals from the 2020s
    McCartney Bass/Vocals/Guitar/Piano from the 2020s.
Footage from the 2020s, and 90s (Anthology Recordings), CGI overlays from their 60 years of recorded history.
Now and Then is an ambiguous phrase meaning timeless. Today (Now) then was the 70s, in the 70s then was Now, in the 70s it was now and today was then, today now is now and the 70s was then. The title of the track itself oozes the thought of timelessness, and the fact we getting a Beatles tune nearly 60 years after they broke up...with all 4 members contributing to the track in some capacity over a 50 year time span with two of them having passed away...
Timeless is right. Now and Then is a great feather in the cap of imo the most influential band of all time.

He is the guy sitting next to Paul listening to the orchestra. I love this song. It was part of 3 songs given to McCartney by Yoko in the 1990s for the Anthology..Real Love, Free as a Bird and Now and Then. There was a electrical hum and the piano was too loud apparently. It was Peter Jackson who was able to separate the voice and now the rest is history

Video is a masterpiece. Guessing John and George would have been humored by the song being finished hence Peter Jackson adding their humor to the video.
Also, Pete Best provided the short snippet of the Beatles in their leather gear. His brother took the video in early '62 (oldest known video of the Beatles live before they were famous). Sadly, Pete is blocked by another Beatle in the video! But class act in his providing the snippet. Appreciated your reaction.

John recorded it alone in the 70s(?). 3 of them recorded along with Johns tape in 1995 - thats where some of the shots of George playing it are from. But they didnt think it sounded good enough so they didnt release it. Then they rerecorded it now - using Georges (from 95) and Johns (from the 70s) original parts.
The AI separated Johns vocals from the piano so theyre separate tracks that can be mixed correctly.

Do I close my eyes when listening to "Now and then" and pretend John, Paul, George, and Ringo were all recently in the studio together in the flesh recording this song? The reality is AI made this song possible to feature 2 deceased Beatles who died 43 and 22 years ago along with Paul and Ringo to create a song out of a solo demo from John done in the late 70s.

In 1976 I was a drummer and I went to the Zildian company to test cymbals as they don't all sound the same. They were patient and I did a ride and crash on at least 40-50 before I found a 16", 18" and 20" that sounded good together. Ringo's cymbals have amazing tone. Simply fantastic sound. I still have them at 75 and haven't played in 20 years. I need to get them back into the stream with someone who will appreciate them. People look at me like I am crazy when I tell then that The Beatles completely changed the direction of my life. The world was black and white. Love Me Do changed it to full color.

The demo was from 1977 by John Lennon. In 1995 George, Paul, and Ringo got together to make the Anthology series. They first attempted to complete Johns song then. But without the tech to do it right George said not to finish it. Fast forward to now. Paul and Ringo got together to finally complete it with todays tech. They was able to seperate the voice from the piano, add Georges guitar parts from 95, add in new from today.

Its not a AI synthetic Recording. They used AI to separate the Voice of John from the piano and sourrounding noise (tape). They added a fresh piano, Paul created some new lines were John just hummed. And of course they added the 1994 recording of George playing guitar along to the original tape recordings. Son of George Martin composed the string parts. So this is the closest thing to a Beatles song one can create today.

To answer your question, Peter Jackson made this video. Yes the greatest band in history got the maker of the greatest film trilogy in histroy to do their music video....because of course they did. That's how important this is. I am so happy to have gotten this, and yet so sad too that this is the last new song from them we will ever hear. It's a beautiful ending (I just wish it wasn't the end).

    Now and Then Chronology:
1977 John Lennon records at home, a demo of "Free as a Bird", "Real Love", and "Now and Then" but never completes them.
1980 John Lennon is assassinated by Mark David Chapman.
1988 Yoko Ono (John Lennon's widow) releases the LP "Imagine: John Lennon" which included "Real Love (Take 6)"
1995 Yoko Ono gives George Harrison the demo cassette of John and he, Paul McCartney, & Ringo Starr go into Paul's studio and start working on the three demo songs using John's cassette tape for his vocals. The 3 remaining Beatles add their own vocals and instruments to each of the songs. "Free as a Bird" gets completed and is released on "The Beatles Anthology Volume I". "Real Love" gets completed and is released on "The Beatles Anthology Volume II". While adding their own elements to "Now and Then", Ringo was able to add some drums, Paul added his bass, and George added some acoustic guitars. They found the piano on the cassette overpowering John's vocals on a lot of the track, and finally decided not to complete it and shelf the tape.
2001 George Harrison died of cancer that went from his lungs to his brain.
2022 Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) directs the 6 hour documentary "Get Back" which depicts the making of the "Let it Be" LP. While making the documentary, Jackson's team came up with the ability to separate elements from existing material.
2023 Paul, remembering the technology that Peter Jackson's team had created, brought the cassette tape of John's demo for "Now and Then" to him to see if it can be used to separate the tracks. The technology successfully lifted John's vocals from the cassette, and now they had a clean copy of John's bare vocals. Paul re-recorded his bass part, he then added the acoustic guitars that George had recorded in 1995, then Paul recorded a guitar solo in the style of George Harrison. Paul sent the tracks to Ringo, who then updated his drums. Then Paul went into Capitol record to have the strings recorded (which were arranged and conducted by Giles Martin - George Martin's son).
November 2, 2023 "Now and Then" is released and is officially dubbed as "The Last Beatles song."

John Lennon song recorded on a cassette tape. Found by Yoko in 1994. Paul, George and Ringo attempted to do the song in 1995 but did not have the technology to separate John’s voice from the piano. Peter Jackson was able to do it.

In 1994- 1995 Paul Ringo and George tried to finish this son but due to the bad tape they gave up. Then in 2022 Paul and Ringo used new tech AI put together some live and 1994-1995 video and older videos to put this all together.

The Orchestra did not know that they were working on a Beatles record. They were told that this was a Paul McCartney solo project.

I know its true, its all because of you. And if i make it through, its all because...of you....
those lyrics at the end, and the band disappearing with the name on the sign as well....
i feel implies that this is the End of the Beatles. Not because its the last song. But because they will sadly in time eventually fade away into obscurity or in time.
And its basically on us to carry it until the generations come along to where theres no one else left to know them anymore in person
Now and then. And its all because of you...and if i make it through...its all because of...you....
if i or anyone else as time goes on could keep them alive...then they will make it through time....
    ....sad...and beautiful all at once...
Love the lyrics and music video

    ❤It's a HIT !
How could it not be? The musical layers, the lyrical message, the fact that it took nearly 50 years to see fruition, and now, John and George's spirits returning to complete the Fab Four one more time, is beyond comprehension other than it was by grand design that we have this finale.
All I can say is BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO ! The Beatles aren't The Beatles for nothing - eternally so.
    Peace through music.
Check out the official behind-the-scenes making of this new hit, direct from The Beatles channel.
