So often we forget that most of the Demon Slayer Corps are literally children. The wholesome paper airplane contest is one of the few moments they have gotten in probably years to just be kids for awhile.

Clearly this is just a nice wholesome paper airplane scene setting up all the future friendships that we'll be watching in the future, A light hearted series like demon slayer would never set us up for terrible, Soul shattering heartbreak! I really enjoyed the character development here. I do know what's coming and it's going to be beautifully done. I loved getting to see more of Tokito. It's great how this part builds to support the battles to come, together with you know who, as they all work to get stronger together. I think the hashira training together builds teamwork as well, since they usually fight alone. We don't get to see it in the manga, but it's still fun to watch.
You haven't seen the Stone Hashira fight - but you've seen him sit at the front of all the other Hashira and seen them go from arguing to quiet to listen when he speaks. I think that says a lot.

Their true potential can only be determined in actual combat. For example, Muichiro's true potential was realized not through training with Yoriichi Zero type, but through his fight against the Upper5. So far, Tokito is the only Hashira who has been shown soloing an Upper Moon, and is marked unlike all others besides Mitsuri. If you were to make a ranking based on current knowledge, it's entirely fair to state Tokito as being the strongest at this point. And just like every other manga reader that comments on these reaction videos who can't help themselves from "correcting" people, your comment is extremely suggestive. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can understand exactly what you're saying: "Don't say Muichiro is stronger than Sanemi & Obanai because I know from the manga the *real* ranking and he's not."
Tanjiro only unlocked his mark at the last moment to behead Upper Moon 6. Tanjiro was never able to fight him but managed to defend against some techniques and defend against a barrage of attacks before Upper Moon 6's strength fully returned after removing the poison kunai when Tengen came in last second to save him.
It’s crazy how people hate on demonslayer but in 2021 it won animation of the year also in 2021 it won an outstanding music award also in 2021 won popularity most popular film in 2021 and Asian film award for being the most grossing Asian film Also in 2024 wins Best Fantasy, Best Animation, and Best Art Direction at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards and another 3 awards in 2024 😂
Some people don't hate the series/manga, but keep a critical mind because Demon Slayer is not a perfect story, (and we don't ask for it either, its imperfections don't take away the qualities it has, like reminding us of our humanity). On the other hand, other people like to follow the train to say that "the series only owes its success to the animation made by Ufotable"... And ironically, the Fate series and its films have had less success while the scenarios are very deep, and have more complexity, especially for the universe of Fate Great Order...
This is the first episode where we see the demon slayers act like their age, demon slayer is one of the animes that makes you forget how harsh it actually is, in that moment where they're playing with paper airplanes, that's the only episode we see them act like their age, they're still kids. It's sad.

I love the developement of Tokito since we first met him. Really feels good when you can have some of the more wholesome moments shine like this as well without it feeling thrown in or dragged out. I still have a paper air plane memory that I will never forget. I was in 3rd or 4th year (9 or 10 yrs old) and everyone was making paper airplanes during recess. I tried making one but it barely flew so I asked a teacher if he could make one. I got one from him and ran up to 2 guys yelling " Hey guys, watch this!" and threw it very hard. What stunned us was that the plane was not going straight, but straight up tumbling around like crazy in midair as it was gaining altitude. It stayed like that in what felt like minutes and ended up going over the building we stod next to and across the roof to the other side while still tumbling like crazy. We ran around and at the time we got there the plane had landed on the ground. All of us stod there mouth agape until someone bursted out, "That was so COOL!! Let´s get more!" It ended in that the teacher who made it got VERY popular during that recess and had to make paper planes for every kid on the playground, however noone danced/tumbled like the one we first saw.

I love how at 20:45 you can see the same expression from tanjiro that he had when he suggested the eating contest to giyu (meaning he probably went over a similar number of thoughts before blurting out the paper plane contest and this time not showing the thought process to us too)
Gyutaro vs Uzui's final battle was filler as well. After activating his score technique in the manga, Tengen lunges at Gyutaro's neck, with none of the action we saw in the anime. I don't remember anyone complaining about that, or putting Tengen down, in fact, they hype him up more than usual lol. Why can't the same happen with Tokito vs Sanemi and Obanai?
@@l0velessoul Bcoz the filler in s2 resulted in the same consequence, Tengen and gyutaro suffered the same injuries similar to Manga after clash , all the dialogues were same. On the other hand we know muichiro isn't as experienced or strong as other adult hashira and still taking 2 on at the same time ticked people off
The paper airplane scene is anime original. It beautifully shows and reminds you that they're all still kids, and they rarely get to experience wholesome moments like this cause their childhoods were destroyed, and they spend all their time training and fighting demons. The story telling in this anime is amazing
The paper plane thing reminded me something happened to my class and I when we were in the last year of Bachelor of Economics and Management. The economics teacher did an unfair exam to us, we were gaining 1 point for each good answer but we were getting -3 points on the exam for each wrong answer... thankfully I had studied a lot this topic because I first wanted to become researcher in economics (now I'm PhD student but not in economics because I changed my mind) so I was working this subject harder. It happened I got the best mark of my class (so I majored it) and by far in front of the rest of my class. However, I had still a frustration for my classmates about how unfair the exam was. I contacted the teacher and while I could not even get a better mark, I told the teacher that the exam was unfair and that I succeeded only because I have studied the topic as hobby for years but I specified that this exam would have been out of my reach in one semester only. The teacher proposed me an appointment and he told me "well compared to the second of the class you are way ahead so I guess somehow you're right. What should I do to make it fairer according to you?" I said "in my opinion the negative points have no pedagogical interests.. because look when a student loses 3 points because failing a question, it means he/she actually loses 4 because he/she doesn't get the point + loses 3 other ones. So that means even someone having 3/4 of the answers right do not even have the average!!!" He said "ok I admit it was not fair but at the same time I can't accept that my subject is passed if you get only half of the points so that's why I proposed these negative points." I said "well you made a multiple questionnaire at the first place and I don't think that's the best way to assess economics. In my opinion, economics should be assessed with a mix of knowledge so questions + thoughts so mini dissertation or something but too late now" He said "ok I'll put -1 instead of -3 is it fine for you?" I said "well -1 means -2 then so it's definitely better but still unfair to me but it must be hard to assess sometimes so I trust you" He said "ok just go now I'll think about it" The day after he sent all of us an email "Following the request of one of your classmates, that you can thank, I got convinced that the assessment was a bit unfair so all the negative points will be transformed from -3 to -0.5 when you get the wrong answers. Your new marks will be uploaded ASAP, thank you for your comprehension." People were so happy! Because like 80% of the class was going to fail! By the way now I'm teaching in this same university and generally at the end of most of my courses we have a drink together the studens and I and sometimes I meet again some former students for a snack, tea, coffee, aperitives, etc. I got bullied by some teachers during my school years and there were stuff I hated in university so I'm doing my best to be an alternative to those teachers who are not very correct with the students.
Fun watching this season with you. :) Episode 5 is one of my favorites this season outside of the last episode so looking forward to that as well. Paper airplanes was a nice bridge between the trainer and trainees.
From the after credits, you know Luke likes a character when he knows their name. 😂 I also enjoyed the training in this season. It makes sense that all characters need to sharpen their skills based on the premonition of Ubuyashiki (leader of the demon slayers) who says that it will all end in this generation (he said that at the end of the movie, i think).
The other Demon Slayers do have crows, the animators just don’t bother with creating another crow with their own personality for every single Slayer because they are a lot.
At this point I almost wish he just recorded all the videos in advance. Pretty much every video is filled with more unnecessary or annoying comments than actual useful or insightful comments. It’s hard not to quickly see things like: - Direct spoilers. - Indirect spoilers. - Fake Hashira rankings. - The inability to just let him have his theories and let him find out the truth for himself, instead of feeling the need to “correct” them. - Just wait for “X” Episode, or “X” to happen! - Feel the need to go into instant defence mode the instant a reactor doesn’t immediately love their favourite characters *Looks at Sanemi fans* - Straight up misinformation. Do people think each video he uploads is his last or something? Lmao.
I remember many people saying that the anime was "generic" "that it is only popular because of the animation and not the characters" I like to see how you managed to connect with various characters like Tokito or Nezuko without others molding a bad image of them because of the negative comments from episode 1 and 2 negative to the anime at least tanjiro didn't become an ordinary teacher like deku

Imo people just need to accept things for what it is, not what it could have been and cope with it. Demon slayer is sure generic but a well presented one... And by well presented I mean the masterful animation, soundtracks and characters. But still story and writing wise it's "generic" and very cliche anime full of generic shonen tropes, and that's a fact. Just accept it for being generic and you would definitely enjoy it without having any complaints... But who cares, that's just what I think. the mha one... I have never watched mha myself but I do know how it ends and what it's about because it's very popular. Imo deku becoming a teacher was a great conclusion for a story which was heavily focused on "heroic" themes. And a journey of a hero becoming a teacher was a beautiful send off imo... As I said, just accept it for what it is and you'll enjoy it.
We saw Deku got support items though in the end so he kinda similar to Ironman or Batman in that sense. Or like all might when he fought against young all for one.

Tokito's without doubt my favourite Hashira (possibly my favourite character, in terms of char development and growth). You're right in saying that he's the strongest Hashira right now, taking on these 2 other Hashiras at once and having developed the mark. The only one who could potentially be stronger, but who we havent seen fight yet is the Stone Hashira. Then again, he doesnt have the mark, so Tokito might still be stronger than him. Man's on a whole other level! His blatant favouritism for Tanjiro is awesome😂
Tanjiro really is a kind soul that raises up everyone around him. Despite almost never being the strongest swordsman in the room, everyone especially the Hashira, grow and have come as far as they have because of him.

Aside from the strongest none are confirmed and change in every list. 8:45 There is no unity on the demon slayer corps and Tanjiro brings that unity throughout this arc. 20:10 Favoritism at it's finest. 30:20 It's one of my fav headcanons actually, that Mui sees Tanjiro as a brother figure.
Just to clarify without the risk of any spoilers, Tokito is not the strongest Hashira. Typically speaking, Shinazagawa is the 2nd strongest so the fact Tokito went up against him as well as Obenai is impressive. The reason why Tokito was able to hold his own so well is because is the most competent swordsman amongst the Hashira. When you are fighting sword on sword, that gives you an incredible advantage. Side bar, I also appreciate how Shinazagawa said "We will take you on two on one" which was a sign of respect towards Tokito, recognising that he is more than capable of battling the two of them all out in a "sword" fight.

I'm from El Salvador and yes, when i was little we did have paper airplanes contest. All my cousins and i would sit and make paper airplanes. We all had a different method of making them, some would use different type of paper too. It was honestly very fun but yea, at least in my childhood paper airplanes contests were definitely a thing!

I learned growing up with my brother how to make all kinds of paper-airplanes. And when I started school I made them all the time and even competed with my classmates but I left them in the dust because my brother inspired/taught me from a very young age.
Paper airplane contests are, or were, a thing. We used to do it when i was a kid. That was also in the early 80s before computers and consoles so that might explain why it doesn't occur to younger people.
Actually, as an elementary student, we were assembled in gymnastics hall and compete to see who would fly the best paper plane. Part of recreation fun time.

no doubt muichiro is strong but the thing is the wind and serpent hashira were holding back and they were caught off guard that how much stronger the mist hashira have gotten
It is quite a good point that you mentioned the ranking system for the strengths of the hashira. There is a RUclips channel Called Anime For You that has actually layed this out out and put into a power level ranking video. They've done it for the Lower and Upper Moon Demons and Also Tanjiros group. I highly recommend the Hashira one and Lower moon ones when u are done with this series, however the other two I don't recommend yet, as the Upper Moon one contains substantial Manga spoilers and Tanjiros group, or rather Kamaboko Squad, as it contains Extremely crucial important manga spoilers. Also this Season is not the end to my knowledge, we are getting more demon slayer information around December if I recall. Or than that I absolutely am loving your reactions to demon slayer as always, you are the only demon slayer reactor I have found on RUclips that gives me the same level of excitement as I got when I first watched demon slayer. Big fight with the corps vs Muzan and his army with some flashbacks and dramatic pauses for whoever dies (idk who, but I bet there will be more than 1) is all that’s left. I have no knowledge past this season, but just knowing Demon Slayer.. people are going to die. No way the series ends with all the Hashira alive. This training arc really reminds me of a cross between Bleach training episodes and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Sword training. 2 of my favorite anime for many years, and Demon Slayer is up there with them. Above them in some ways. Not many anime have as much in depth character story as Demon Slayer. And of course the amazing animation.
the reason why you recognized Tokito's voice is because it's our mentalist boy Gen! Asagiri Gen! Jima de! (Maji de, for some reason Gen always "flips" the hiragana/katakana of certain words, in this case the word meaning "for real")

In my opinion, all Hashira they complement each other, you don't have a rank level, for ex: Rengoku vs Tomyoka (Fire vs Water) you can't say Rengoku is gonna lose, you've seen him how fast he goes (first episodes of season 2 when chaising that demon who looks like Upper 3- tatoo)

Once I finished this arc, I went back to the first introduction of the hashira in season 1 and thought how strange that first impression was. It was both a bad first impression, but an accurate one.

Luke let me clarify the names of the hashiras for you. The ''poisen'' hashira is Shinobu Kochou and she's actually the insect hashira not poisen hashira. Tomioka Giyu is the water hashira Misturi Kanroji is the love hashira Tengen is the sound hashira And the only one you easily remember Rengoku is the flame hashira and lastly Muichiro Tokito is the mist hashira. The other hashiras are: Gyomie Himejima is the stone hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa is the wind hashira Obanai Iguro is the serpent hashira. Bonus fun fact: Mist breathing is derived from wind breathing. Love breathing is derived from flame breathing Serpent breathing is derived from one of them aswell(I think flame) but I'm unsure Insect breathing is derived from flower breathing which is also derived from another breathing (Maybe wind) Thunder,stone,water,wind,flame are derived from one breathing. Won't say it though since it's a spoiler for anime watchers. And than there is beast breathing being its own very thing....well done Inosuke.

So far, Tokito is the only Hashira who has been shown soloing an Upper Moon, and is marked unlike all others besides Mitsuri. If you were to make a ranking based on current knowledge, it's entirely fair to state Tokito as being the strongest at this point.

Tanjiro only unlocked his mark at the last moment to behead Upper Moon 6.
Tanjiro was never able to fight him but managed to defend against some techniques and defend against a barrage of attacks before Upper Moon 6's strength fully returned after removing the poison kunai when Tengen came in last second to save him.

Some people don't hate the series/manga, but keep a critical mind because Demon Slayer is not a perfect story, (and we don't ask for it either, its imperfections don't take away the qualities it has, like reminding us of our humanity).
On the other hand, other people like to follow the train to say that "the series only owes its success to the animation made by Ufotable"...
And ironically, the Fate series and its films have had less success while the scenarios are very deep, and have more complexity, especially for the universe of Fate Great Order...
This is the first episode where we see the demon slayers act like their age, demon slayer is one of the animes that makes you forget how harsh it actually is, in that moment where they're playing with paper airplanes, that's the only episode we see them act like their age, they're still kids. It's sad.

I love the developement of Tokito since we first met him. Really feels good when you can have some of the more wholesome moments shine like this as well without it feeling thrown in or dragged out.
I still have a paper air plane memory that I will never forget. I was in 3rd or 4th year (9 or 10 yrs old) and everyone was making paper airplanes during recess. I tried making one but it barely flew so I asked a teacher if he could make one. I got one from him and ran up to 2 guys yelling " Hey guys, watch this!" and threw it very hard. What stunned us was that the plane was not going straight, but straight up tumbling around like crazy in midair as it was gaining altitude. It stayed like that in what felt like minutes and ended up going over the building we stod next to and across the roof to the other side while still tumbling like crazy. We ran around and at the time we got there the plane had landed on the ground. All of us stod there mouth agape until someone bursted out, "That was so COOL!! Let´s get more!"
It ended in that the teacher who made it got VERY popular during that recess and had to make paper planes for every kid on the playground, however noone danced/tumbled like the one we first saw.
Btw Muichiro vs Sanemi and Obanai is an anime only scene meaning the manga (original version which I’m sure you know) never had it

Gyutaro vs Uzui's final battle was filler as well. After activating his score technique in the manga, Tengen lunges at Gyutaro's neck, with none of the action we saw in the anime. I don't remember anyone complaining about that, or putting Tengen down, in fact, they hype him up more than usual lol. Why can't the same happen with Tokito vs Sanemi and Obanai?

The paper airplane scene is anime original. It beautifully shows and reminds you that they're all still kids, and they rarely get to experience wholesome moments like this cause their childhoods were destroyed, and they spend all their time training and fighting demons. The story telling in this anime is amazing
The paper plane thing reminded me something happened to my class and I when we were in the last year of Bachelor of Economics and Management.
The economics teacher did an unfair exam to us, we were gaining 1 point for each good answer but we were getting -3 points on the exam for each wrong answer... thankfully I had studied a lot this topic because I first wanted to become researcher in economics (now I'm PhD student but not in economics because I changed my mind) so I was working this subject harder. It happened I got the best mark of my class (so I majored it) and by far in front of the rest of my class.
However, I had still a frustration for my classmates about how unfair the exam was. I contacted the teacher and while I could not even get a better mark, I told the teacher that the exam was unfair and that I succeeded only because I have studied the topic as hobby for years but I specified that this exam would have been out of my reach in one semester only. The teacher proposed me an appointment and he told me "well compared to the second of the class you are way ahead so I guess somehow you're right. What should I do to make it fairer according to you?" I said "in my opinion the negative points have no pedagogical interests.. because look when a student loses 3 points because failing a question, it means he/she actually loses 4 because he/she doesn't get the point + loses 3 other ones. So that means even someone having 3/4 of the answers right do not even have the average!!!"
He said "ok I admit it was not fair but at the same time I can't accept that my subject is passed if you get only half of the points so that's why I proposed these negative points."
I said "well you made a multiple questionnaire at the first place and I don't think that's the best way to assess economics. In my opinion, economics should be assessed with a mix of knowledge so questions + thoughts so mini dissertation or something but too late now"
He said "ok I'll put -1 instead of -3 is it fine for you?"
I said "well -1 means -2 then so it's definitely better but still unfair to me but it must be hard to assess sometimes so I trust you"
He said "ok just go now I'll think about it"

I also enjoyed the training in this season. It makes sense that all characters need to sharpen their skills based on the premonition of Ubuyashiki (leader of the demon slayers) who says that it will all end in this generation (he said that at the end of the movie, i think).

Imo people just need to accept things for what it is, not what it could have been and cope with it. Demon slayer is sure generic but a well presented one... And by well presented I mean the masterful animation, soundtracks and characters.
But still story and writing wise it's "generic" and very cliche anime full of generic shonen tropes, and that's a fact. Just accept it for being generic and you would definitely enjoy it without having any complaints... But who cares, that's just what I think.
the mha one... I have never watched mha myself but I do know how it ends and what it's about because it's very popular. Imo deku becoming a teacher was a great conclusion for a story which was heavily focused on "heroic" themes. And a journey of a hero becoming a teacher was a beautiful send off imo... As I said, just accept it for what it is and you'll enjoy it.
We saw Deku got support items though in the end so he kinda similar to Ironman or Batman in that sense. Or like all might when he fought against young all for one.

Tokito's without doubt my favourite Hashira (possibly my favourite character, in terms of char development and growth). You're right in saying that he's the strongest Hashira right now, taking on these 2 other Hashiras at once and having developed the mark. The only one who could potentially be stronger, but who we havent seen fight yet is the Stone Hashira. Then again, he doesnt have the mark, so Tokito might still be stronger than him. Man's on a whole other level!

Just to clarify without the risk of any spoilers, Tokito is not the strongest Hashira. Typically speaking, Shinazagawa is the 2nd strongest so the fact Tokito went up against him as well as Obenai is impressive. The reason why Tokito was able to hold his own so well is because is the most competent swordsman amongst the Hashira. When you are fighting sword on sword, that gives you an incredible advantage.
Side bar, I also appreciate how Shinazagawa said "We will take you on two on one" which was a sign of respect towards Tokito, recognising that he is more than capable of battling the two of them all out in a "sword" fight.
I'll never acknowledge Sanemi as the 2nd strongest as long as I breathe. Not while Obanai exists

I'm from El Salvador and yes, when i was little we did have paper airplanes contest. All my cousins and i would sit and make paper airplanes. We all had a different method of making them, some would use different type of paper too. It was honestly very fun but yea, at least in my childhood paper airplanes contests were definitely a thing!

Paper airplane contests are, or were, a thing. We used to do it when i was a kid. That was also in the early 80s before computers and consoles so that might explain why it doesn't occur to younger people.
I believe the purpose of the airplane scene, has to do with showing how Tokito is still a kid. We tend to forget how freaking young he is.
Actually, as an elementary student, we were assembled in gymnastics hall and compete to see who would fly the best paper plane. Part of recreation fun time.

It is quite a good point that you mentioned the ranking system for the strengths of the hashira. There is a RUclips channel Called Anime For You that has actually layed this out out and put into a power level ranking video. They've done it for the Lower and Upper Moon Demons and Also Tanjiros group. I highly recommend the Hashira one and Lower moon ones when u are done with this series, however the other two I don't recommend yet, as the Upper Moon one contains substantial Manga spoilers and Tanjiros group, or rather Kamaboko Squad, as it contains Extremely crucial important manga spoilers. Also this Season is not the end to my knowledge, we are getting more demon slayer information around December if I recall. Or than that I absolutely am loving your reactions to demon slayer as always, you are the only demon slayer reactor I have found on RUclips that gives me the same level of excitement as I got when I first watched demon slayer. This training arc really reminds me of a cross between Bleach training episodes and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Sword training. 2 of my favorite anime for many years, and Demon Slayer is up there with them. Above them in some ways. Not many anime have as much in depth character story as Demon Slayer. And of course the amazing animation.

Luke let me clarify the names of the hashiras for you.
The ''poisen'' hashira is Shinobu Kochou and she's actually the insect hashira not poisen hashira.
Tomioka Giyu is the water hashira
Misturi Kanroji is the love hashira
Tengen is the sound hashira
And the only one you easily remember Rengoku is the flame hashira and lastly Muichiro Tokito is the mist hashira.
The other hashiras are:
Gyomie Himejima is the stone hashira
Sanemi Shinazugawa is the wind hashira
Obanai Iguro is the serpent hashira.
Bonus fun fact: Mist breathing is derived from wind breathing.
Love breathing is derived from flame breathing
Serpent breathing is derived from one of them aswell(I think flame) but I'm unsure
Insect breathing is derived from flower breathing which is also derived from another breathing (Maybe wind)

By the way, meaning of Giyu could be derived from the old Chinese book "Analects" of Confucius which is famous also in Japan: "'Gi'wo mite sezaruha 'Yu' naki nari", "It is for your cowardice you do nothing when you see you have to do justice". Giyu's parents may had named him so and wished him to have courage when he needs to do his justice.🥲
