Re: identifying the # of units left in the pool; The new info panel that launched with this set could be a good way to deliver that information. I'm no designer or dev, so idk how realistic it would be, but it'd be nice to be able to right click a unit I have in the field or on my bench and just have a snapshot right there in the info panel.

  • @doomse150

2:31:52 I think 3 Hex champions could have a purpose as a sort of backline "tank" against Assassins or projectile spells targetting champions. The advantage of those would then be that you can put them in front of your actual carry without blocking your carry completely (as happens when you do it with other 4 range units) or have the "blocker" just wander off into the frontline as happens with 1/2 range units.
Having a 3 range unit block for a 4 range unit would presumably make them move around the battlefield together, staying back or stepping up simultaneously as long as the hit the same target.

I think everything mort said about diablo as an example is pretty true, not just as an opinion, but as a game in general. Some people just don't enjoy long build ups before getting something actually exciting, but all the other aspects that he may dislike might be due to the fact that because he's a game designer himself, he sees potential being fully missed, or at least that's how I imagine game designers seeing other games. I love how honest he is about the q and a's while also fully respecting other game company he shoots his pov's at. It'd be nice to see more game leads make time for the public to answer questions. Being transparent is so important in building a community to trust eachother. We're not left on blues on why things are the way they are, whether they're intended or not. I get frustrated in tft all the time, who doesn't? But it helps knowing why a certain mechanic was added in that way. I still suck at the game and complain like a baby when I don't have my way, but thats more than likely cause I'm bad.

That answer about games where new things happen everytime you pick the game up is the reason Halo 3 was so incredible for me. It had simplistic mechanics, but it gave you all the tools you'd need to make your own fun rather than try to railroad you onto their planned fun.
Tft is nailing that for me at the moment.

The pool sizes discussion makes me think of the site you can play Catan on online where instead of saying explicitly how many of any resource there are in the bank, it just tells you roughly how many based on the number of "?" there are. "?" being the fewest and "???" being the most. Then you could have it update live without being overwhelming for the player to look at by having specific ranges of units left.

in terms of barrier to entry, as a new player who feels like they JUST got over the hump, some sort of PvCPU practice mode, that is maybe truncated to 20 minutes or so per game would be very appealing. even if its ultimately not the best way to learn, that sort of very optional sandbox area to just mess around and learn the basics might be really helpful.

    • @MhmSpicy

    • @DeekJones
      @DeekJones Год назад +2

Hard to implement because it allows optimization of patches much faster and ruins a lot of the fun of figuring out each particular patch. Unfortunately the game is too complicated and changes too often for it to ever really be balanced, so practice tools would be properly utilized by high elo more than new players to minmax, and ultimately probably make the game a worse experience for new players overall.

The best tutorial is no tutorial and the greatest example of how to teach the player everything about the game is Super Mario Bros. 1-1, within the first 10 seconds of the game you should learn how to play and get through the entire game of original Mario.
Nintendo did this with ZERO text whatsoever and just let the player play the game, control Mario freely, and have obvious visuals of what is what... Goomba looks squishy up top? Try jumping on him! [Goomba dies] Cannot access that ? block from the sides, but can from below? Try jumping into it! [Mushroom appears] Mushroom looks friendly and is running away from you? Try running into it! [Mario gets big (learns about power ups)]

The Lux and Kai'sa nerfs were absolutely necessary. You just can't cook when units are that overpowered, because you lose to even full 1* boards with decent items. Just those two nerfs *really did* open up so much more stuff. I think it was an awesome, patch, and let's make no mistake that the vast majority of the increased breadth is because of the patch, not because of "figuring stuff out."

I agree partially, but I also fear nerfing a champion too much will lead to players that like go full demacia, or void to be nerfed as well, as Lux and Kai'sa are many times the main carries for those verticals. I enjoy Void, I hate mech comps, and monster comps most of the time. But I fell in love with Void this set. But it has been nothing but nerfs since this set opened up. There was a 6 void buff, but you only feel it if your are lucky enough to get 6 void early. If you are unlucky, then its a quick trip to a fast 8th place.

For the chibi legends animation question. I feel like as the person losing it’s not too bad. But as the player that owns the chibi, having to watch that same animation multiple times in the same game as you kill other players can get annoying. Especially because you paid a premium to have that little legend so you want to use it. But it does get repetitive and annoying

On the stillwater thing: Im not a person who flames people who pick it, im anoyed yes, but i never write smth. What i noticed tho is that ther are allot of people taking it just to troll. This might not be true in really high elo but in mid dimond were im at atm allot of people pick and say smth like "suffer with me guys. I kinda think the pick rate might be infladed by people who just wants to troll others cause most of us have more fun with the beautiful augment system you guys designed. I understand why you wouldnt just remove it but i also think it isnt as easy as just saying some people like it.

Champion card in shop should have a small coloured dot in the top corner. Green = enough to make 3* champ in the pool. yellow = enough to make 2* champ in the pool. red = can't make 2 star.

How to make TFT better for NEW players and HARDCORE players?
~Simpler abilities and abilities are VISUALLY CLEAR of everything that they do. If you have to read to know what spell does, you failed and lost that new player. Read should only be there to make things clear and precise, not there to substitute poor visual clarity.
~Less total traits in a set, like less than 50% of what you make now.
~Every trait has more champions than max limit i.e. 2/4/6/8 trait has 12 champions with that trait.
This allows for a new player to play the champions that they like without knowing what any champion, trait, or ability does and have fun with the game while for the hardcore allows for more creative freedom with comps keeping the game fresh for hundreds and maybe even thousands of games longer.
~Every champion has at least 3 traits.
For a new player experience, this allows that player to feel like they are playing the game the correct way while throwing in champions that appeal to them since the champions that they like also are more likely to have matching traits create more fun and enjoyment out of the game.
For hardcore players, allows for more creative freedom and keeps interest in the game for a lot longer without the need of balance patches.
    ~Keep traits simple.
If the trait is getting too wordy then it is either overcomplicated or there are too many systems and this makes it really hard for a new player to learn vs a trait that gives team attack speed, traits do not need to be all this simple, but just an example.

I'm a casual GM/Challenger player, and I LOVE LEGENDS. It feels like picking a new deck in Hearthstone. I love that I can completely change the feel of the game when I want to by running something new. Don't listen to the haters. Sure, they're tough to balance, but even Draven patch was fun for 2 days.

First things first I have nothing but respect and appreciation for Mort and the tft dev team. But I disagree with Morts approach to those who dislike Chibi cutscenes. I think cutscenes aren't a trigger for tilt but an aggrevator for tilt. If I have a game where I play like garbage or feel like rng shafted me the last thing I wanna see is something that feels similar to taunting. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of unreasonable takes on cutscenes ( ie the hostage comparison) but regardless of the logic behind it if people think they're toxic there should be a way to turn them off.

    • @thmspayne
      @thmspayne Год назад

I understand what you’re saying, for me personally it’s only tilting to me if the person in game was being toxic such as pinging, emoting or chatting. I get boiling hot mad but I think it’s stupid to remove chat, pings , and emotes just because I got tilted by it. I feel the same about the cutscene, my personal experience shouldn’t remove the fun for others. In fact I want one too really bad but I can’t decide which I want lol so I haven’t bought one yet. I am a fan of the aatrox one, it reminds me of the anime bleach.

  • @talisredstar1543

here is an idea, take stillwater hold, or w/e it is and turn it into a game mode. If people really like it go let them play that with other people that do as well. Because if I had money to bet, i'm willing to bet that more often than not, 7 other people in that lobby would rather that person not be there than to be forced to play that portal. You added augments to the game for a reason, and though balancing can be a problem I've still enjoyed them ever since they have been introduced. To be forced to play with out them literally against our will is not fun.
Stillwater, makes some comps all but impossible to play, it makes some strategies as well impossible to play. Its bad enough when you can't play a favored comp, because one champion in it is highly contested. That shite is not fun, but acceptable. its another thing though when certain comps or strategies are all but virtually impossible to pull off because of the lack of augments.
I mean I would rather play the old Yuumi's zoomi portal all day, every day than ever touch Stillwater. Honestly, you should of added too the stillwater portal and shortened the boards to season 1, and literally just called it "Genesis" or "Season 1" portal, because that is what it feels like playing that portal.
I agree that toxicity is bad, but what usually gets the rage pumping with Stillwater is that there is a Scuttle Puddle, and/or Shuriman Bazaar to pick from as well. Either of those are insanely fun to play in. And then ONE person. ONE not many but ONE person walks over to Stillwater, and fucks it up for 7 other people. And you wonder why there is so much hate for stillwater players? You had to know putting that portal into the game was going to ruffle feathers, I know you couldn't of been that naive to think that it would not. Yes toxicity is on the one doing it, but I can't help but think that as the devs you share in that toxicity for facilitating a situation that would spawn said toxicity.
Turning Stillwater into its own mode does several things. It takes it out of the portal choice pool, so something else can be chosen there instead. It takes the players that like to play that mode, and puts them in lobbies with other like minded players, or players that are going into it knowing what they are in for. Taking that portal out of the normal and rank choice pool then removes that rage inducing option, which will lower the toxicity against said players.
