I bought one of these about nine years ago, my eldest son and I ran it relentlessly bashing hell out of it for the first few months, then just occasionally over the next two years until it got put into storage and forgotten about.....until seeing this video. We dug it out yesterday and put a new battery on as the original had died and hey presto, it still preforms perfectly, well it did until the transmitter gave up, it had been stored in an unheated outside shed so when I opened it up you could see where moisture had gotten into the PCB etc, the damage was quite considerable and I'm surprised it worked at all. As it happens it was the older version with a crystal which I see you can still buy on AliExpress for about £17 GBP so no worries! These are great fun and I would highly recommend to anyone, even better if you get two! Another great video, I really enjoy your presentations, good job👍😁
"After being a Henglong customer for quite some time all i can say is, if you have a Henglong tank, Immediately start upgrading to metal parts if you plan to use it outside on rough terrain! On the basic models the plastic parts are prone to breaking. If you choose to keep it as a shelf queen or use it indoors, no need to worry. I'm seriously considering selling 95% of the tanks i own (made by henglong) in order to buy 1 Fully metal good quality tank from Mato RC or Taigen RC. Yes they are expensive $500-$1,000+ but i've heard they last a long time due to them being mostly if not all metal, depending on the versions you choose to get. And the design of the tanks and the electronics are good quality. But for those who cannot afford those tanks stick with Henglong. Their your best affordable entry level RC Tanks that do hold up if you upgrade them and take care of them."
I don’t know how it is for other people, but I have have had the heng long Sherman for over a year with no issues. These are surprisingly high quality. I definitely recommend them.

Have the Heng Long Panther, sounds amazing, majority of the body is metal as is the tracks, gears and barrel, fires BB pellets with recoil, quality of the build is just awesome, if you want a RC tank heng long is the way to go.
bought the older version and beat it up, the front and rear lift lugs are delicate, and got smashed, as well as the rear lighting, otherwise it was good. Recently rebuilt it with all metal road wheels, Idlers and drive, tracks and suspension arms. It was a long going process, but it is way better. Next to zero slop in the suspension. Replaced the front lift lugs with heavy guage wire, and reinforced. Fun Build.

The problem isn't that they are made from plastic - the problem is that none of the plastic wheels have bearings which means that they wear very quickly, and the general construction is very toy like. I would recommend Taigen/Torro over Heng Long, but even some of those are troublesome. The Taigen/Torro Tiger 1 is an excellent all round tank - I built one for my nephew who is 6, so that he can play with my dad in the garden (I built my dad a T-34/85) and he has been bashing it for well over a year and it has yet to come back to me for repair! I have a few Torro/Taigen tanks, and the Tiger 1 is the best by far. It has a stronger chassis than my other tanks and runs well on all terrain. I would highly recommend it.
That's a bloomin' wicked tank you've got there Steve! 😀😃 This brings fond memories of playing with a cousin's rc tank years ago as a kid and driving into a doll's house! 😄
Great video, thank you for sharing. I have had my Bulldog for about four years and I really like it. The plastic wheels fell off after 6 months of heavy use, so I replaced them with idlers (the idlers have brass bushes) and mounted them by cutting off the stub axles with a junior hacksaw, drilling out the suspension arm and then using the idler shouldered screws to affix them, now it will go anywhere!
Need to dig out my old 80's Radio Shack RC tank- worked great but had a radio range of about 10 feet. Rubber treads probably dry rotted. This new one with metal treads seems awesome!
That's brilliant there's a real one in a park in Florida down south, Thanks again from across the pond, I may buy one although it's got to be the tiger. Tony.

Love the main gun. The plastic bb's do sting. Haven't tried metal ones. Thinking about getting gels. Lots of fun!
I built a DIY tank for snow. Was super slow. Analog FPV it in the winter while sitting in a warm house. Now I bought a heng long m1a2 I'm putting elrs and walsknail fpv on it. To explore the neighborhood in the winter haha. I'm do a half ass build video. Confusing so I'm just doing clips little by little. I'm still buying connectors and things lil by lil. I got to paint wheels and maybe whole tank. Then put pieces on that I might have to buy more paint for
Go Dad! And Captain, getting yourself shot by a tank is what I call really dedicated reviewing, lol!😂 Cool tank and excellent filming of the little beast in action.👌👍😎
Currently there is a 6 month waiting list For these tanks. I ordered one back and January still waiting. That's motion RC I own the hanglong king tiger unfortunately unfortunately the smoker unit went out after the 2nd time period not a big deal but they do run good get the upgraded battery and you'll get more run time With the upgraded metal units maybe 15 minutes tops7 Nicely done video thanks for sharing. My friend has converted his with Co2 pistol parts- I don’t know the legalities of such things in different countries so care has to be taken in that regard but boy is his tank accurate at quite some distance 😃👍
Cap so cool that RC is something good, Instead of the Thing That You get made fun of for! But you did it and RC helped make you not brake you! I Honestly Love Your Dad for That!!!!!!!
I bought this tank 7 years ago ... I bought it to pull cables .. And I installed a camera on it .. 7 years :-) ... The tank is good .. and I bought it for 800kr (Norwegian krone) but from Germany
Normally, I couldn't care less about RC ground vehicles, but THIS is a TANK! So, I'm instantly fascinated. By the way, I've operated an M41 before -- in World of Tanks, though. Not for real. Unfortunately. Thanks for reviewing this!!! By the way, your video segment with the dramatic music and the tank patrolling was brilliant! I was smiling like a loon all the way through!
What you need is to 3D print Arnold Schwarzenegger or Silvester Stallone and put them in the tank! Boy would that make for an epic shot! Your videos rock my world! Thanks!
I Love everything Military in the RC World. Never owned one because I was always thinking they are just plastic kids toys but this Tank is Awesome I never dreamed it was this detailed and built so well and at a very good price. I cannot wait on the reviews you got coming on RC Military. Looks like I’m going broke really quick😂😎 but I will be having fun🤩. Thanks Captain
After seeing your video I ordered the walker bulldog and I love it. I ordered 2 of the T-72 ERA metal version and have to say the T-72 ERA Tank has adjustable idle wheel to tension the tracks .I wish the bulldog had that option.
I got a German Tiger II recently. Love it, it’s awesome. Just ordered an M1A1 for my grandson. These things are really cool and really detailed. Definitely getting some more because they have so many different models. Mine has a recoil feature when it fires
I think I have to get one of these. I prefer 1:10, but I haven't found anything in that scale. This is my favorite era of tanks--when I picture a tank in my mind, this is what I see.
I have the A1 Abrams large one that shoots Airsoft pellets. Yes they do hurt when you get hit. Mine set me back $200. The thing is Viscous. Frame is 2' with an 18" barrel. Decided to mount my Fat Shark camera on the turret so that I can get the best shot. Enjoy,
I remember cruising the HobbyTron website ten or fifteen years ago always looking at these..... Never did buy one, but I do remember Heng Long was a supposedly fantastic manufacturer.
Mine arrived day before yesterday ........great runner ......gonna fully charge the battery and hit the grass and dirt ........ also have a Torro Tiger I Late coming, metal tracks , three tone camo ........ hoping it's a beaut too 😁👍🇺🇸
Reminds me of last weeks episode of Combat! The Duel on METV. Featured this Bulldog tank painted with German markings but anyone who knows WW2 you know it was a USA tank made to look German.
TANKS for the fun and whimsical video, Captain Drone :-) somehow was recommended to view this channel, and decided to subscribe. Kudos on the superb content.
Sound #1 the "default sound" is of a German King Tiger tank. Incidentally from Tamiya's Tiger/King Tiger tank models recorded at the Saumur Tank Museum. It's the exact same sound my Tamiya Tiger has. For historical accuracy, you would want to use sound #2. That is the sound of a 1950's tank.
Oh you're getting into a addictive hobby .I started off with Henglong and then I found Taigen tanks and they are awesome but for the money you can't beat Henglong. Taigen tanks are very detailed and optional for infrared with barrel recoil and a led flash unit in the barrel but cost a lot more money than Henglong.. Great video and you're going to get hooked on rc-tanks lol
Nice review. They have one of those at the Buffalo, NY Navel museum. I had a tiger 2, but it always went too fast, and I crashed it into a wall, and after that it would always pull to the left. I like the slower speed. More realistic. Can you take it on a sandy beach without ruining it? Bangood calls it the Wacker Bulldog!
If anyone lives in south florida/Orlando area there is group that meets in Tampa where people have created scale model buildings and trees that you can drive around in. The group is called tampa bay blitzkrieg. If you have the infared system hooked up you can battle with other tanks too.
As always Steve, ya right there with ALL the detail and all the info us we your viewers require !.............was there much info on ya Dads tank ? Havent been around for a while.........TANK you Sir
I have this tank and 14 others I guess you could say im a bit addicted to them. The track on the right hand side of your tank is on backwards, thats the track under the shovel and tools up front ,its a simple job to reverse it though.
Hello, nice review. I'm a collector of 1/16th tanks. In my honest opinion, I think the Bulldog is one of the best runners out the box from Heng Long. But sadly the least accurate in scale etc. What prompted me to comment, is those yellow BB's that come with the tanks. Please throw them out with the trash, then purchase polished and round 0.20g BB's from an airsoft supplier. Those yellow ones with the moulding ridge will either get stuck and/or damage the rubber seal on the BB mechanism.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 well, out of my 43 tanks lol, it has to be the Sherman, but that is purely because of all the different resin hulls and turrets etc on offer to change the basic Heng Long Sherman M1A3 into Fireflies, M10's, Jackson's etc, and with different smaller hatches etc, purely from a modelling perspective. Also there are some very good aftermarket control boards which can have custom sounds installed. The Heng Long having a plastic chassis makes life easier for modifications. Now, after saying that, there is a company called Taigen, which was just like Heng Long but more souped up. If you look at my channel, I have posted a video my grandson made of himself driving his Taigen Sherman M1A3 (76) at a model show here in England in 2019. That was supplied unpainted and without electronics. It has a complete metal chassis and transmission cover, metal bogies, wheels and tracks, also a metal turret, the only plastic is the top hull. So, you can imagine, even though it's smaller than the Bulldog, it is quite a bit heavier. It is also just an IR battler, which is Tamiya compatible, as that is the standard for UK clubs. When you compare the prices from Heng Long to Tamiya, for me, I find Taigen to be a lot of tank for the money. Although, Taigen electronics have fallen behind Heng Long at the moment. I will add, when it comes to these tanks, I would advise anyone who wants to buy one to join a tank forum first, or even just brows one first, and soak up as much advice as possible. I belong to a British forum, and we get lots of people joining with problems with their new tanks because they have purchased from bad suppliers, or a not so honest seller on eBay. Well, those are just my personal opinions and preferences.
If there was a more rugged off road version with even more durable parts I’d totally get one. Looks super fun to drive around with such nice suspension and all
They are very upgradable. You can purchase full metal suspension components, metal tracks, road wheels, sprockets, upgrade the motors, and gearboxes. Or go full metal with the MATO brand options. Or go mental and spend over a grand on a Tamiya kit.
Anyone remember in the early 80’s this remote called: Turn the terrible tank? Also, Does anyone remember from around 1980, a tank you would punch in on top of it, shaped like a digital numbered keyboard, how many feet forward, then left, right, back etc? But it had no remote. You had to basically guess at how far you were sending it?
I got my girlfriend hooked on WORLD OF TANKS BLITZ by one of us driving and the other shooting...since were playin on my phone we had to snuggle so ya im a genius
I had the Tamiya King Tiger II back in the '90s ...had to build it over a period of months and it cost nearly 1,000 CAD. This has a few more features and is a third the price. Now you have to buy a Russian T34 or a Tiger for your dad and have a battle on your lawn.
Wonderful review. But it's a good thing I'm not 7 years old anymore...."Ma! Look! I know what I want for Christmas!" Hmmm. Wait. I'm not 7 anymore. Where's that link....? 👍👍
When are you gonna have your dad back on? You need to fpv them tanks and do mock combat with your dad, at a safe distance of course. That's if hes up to it that was one of my favorite episodes when he flew fpv. Be safe cpt drone and Godspeed my brother.
Always cool to see you doing different types of content on the channel. you chose a nice uncommon tank in the bulldog, most of the ones i have seen are German tiger ones or modern era RC tanks. I am wondering if you have considered trying out the underwater drones? (perhaps they may be more Nelsons forte given he sails on a boat)
There's a walker bulldog on display near my home in Virginia. I drive by it on occasion going to one of my doctors. It's weird it's displayed more or less in the middle of nowhere.
Good Review... 3:11... You must have been lucky. The BG description in your link states "NOTE: The track and hub are plastic". 11:49... I think your tracks are a bit too long Steve. 11:57... That is not the same box that your BG Link shows.
Heng Long is the low end of the market. Fairly toy grade. Spend a bit more and get something that drives scale. Most HL run like Formula 1 cars not tanks. Once you drive a 7kg tank then the magic happens.
I bought one of these about nine years ago, my eldest son and I ran it relentlessly bashing hell out of it for the first few months, then just occasionally over the next two years until it got put into storage and forgotten about.....until seeing this video.
What is your favorite 1/16th tank model and who makes it? (I'm a newbie at tanks)
@@mickk8519 Great info, I appreciate it.
Thanks for the 0.2g bb tips mick.
Is water gel okay?
If there was a more rugged off road version with even more durable parts I’d totally get one. Looks super fun to drive around with such nice suspension and all
They are very upgradable. You can purchase full metal suspension components, metal tracks, road wheels, sprockets, upgrade the motors, and gearboxes. Or go full metal with the MATO brand options. Or go mental and spend over a grand on a Tamiya kit.
Oh i like tanks! World of tanks rocks! Will watch now! Cheers.
Anyone remember in the early 80’s this remote called:
Turn the terrible tank?
Also,
Does anyone remember from around 1980, a tank you would punch in on top of it, shaped like a digital numbered keyboard, how many feet forward, then left, right, back etc? But it had no remote. You had to basically guess at how far you were sending it?
When that tank has 2 fpv options (driver and gunner) it will be perfect
I got my girlfriend hooked on WORLD OF TANKS BLITZ by one of us driving and the other shooting...since were playin on my phone we had to snuggle so ya im a genius
Such enthusiasm
Awesome review we TANK you 😁. Something different for the hobbie.
You can pre order the new Hubsan Zino mini pro. Can we expact a review soon?
Rad Tank! I just started looking at them, might go with the JJRC 1:30 scale for budget and size using it indoors. Thanks for showing!
Nice tank Captain Drone
I have the same tank. My buddies and me have tank battles. Very fun.
I had the Tamiya King Tiger II back in the '90s ...had to build it over a period of months and it cost nearly 1,000 CAD. This has a few more features and is a third the price. Now you have to buy a Russian T34 or a Tiger for your dad and have a battle on your lawn.
I always watch your Drone reviews, but you do find other RC things that are AWESOME 👌❗Like this Tank , The Batmobile, and many others 👍 Fun Video 📹
Thanks 👍
Never to old to have fun. what a privilege it is to live as long as your dad. Hope he is in good health. God bless him!
I think Tokyo Marui use to make an RC tank that shoots 6mm plastic BBs. Fairly hard to find though, but very cool idea.
Fantastic Steve. My first tank was a tiger, I repainted it to add some scale, was great fun but it’s a hobby for the slow coaches lol
Very cool!
Well that’s a really different kind of review I love it. Happy birthday to your dad!
Great review Captain! Wow 👏 thanks for sharing captain!
That is just too cool. Nice and detailed.
the real size was so big I thought at first that "oh m41a3 is small neat can't wait to see it in real life." boy I was so wrong
Omg ....... I want one now .....😂😂😂😂 brilliant review it’s just awesome 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi, right track is reversed. Otherwise it is really nice RC tank.
Nice toy for the big boy! Tank you!
WOW, It looks great, Keep up the great work
Always cool to see you doing different types of content on the channel.
you chose a nice uncommon tank in the bulldog, most of the ones i have seen are German tiger ones or modern era RC tanks.
I am wondering if you have considered trying out the underwater drones?
(perhaps they may be more Nelsons forte given he sails on a boat)
I'm 54 and i don't care, I WANT ONE. Thanks Capt...
These RC tanks are a whole other hobby in of themself
There's a walker bulldog on display near my home in Virginia. I drive by it on occasion going to one of my doctors. It's weird it's displayed more or less in the middle of nowhere.
Cool! I’ve never seen the real thing.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I was surprised how much larger the tank was than what I thought. Maybe when I feel better I'll try to get a video of it.
OMG THAT IS THE COOLEST, I WANT ONE.
Good Review...
3:11... You must have been lucky. The BG description in your link states "NOTE: The track and hub are plastic".
11:49... I think your tracks are a bit too long Steve. 11:57... That is not the same box that your BG Link shows.
Yup, that is the one I ordered. Either their ad is incorrect or they sent me an upgraded product.
Half dozen of those and the t34 model and you could video graph an awesome battle!
Amazing detail and quality build.
and of course your style Captain Drone Sir
Heng Long is the low end of the market. Fairly toy grade. Spend a bit more and get something that drives scale. Most HL run like Formula 1 cars not tanks. Once you drive a 7kg tank then the magic happens.
That’s awesome,, I love how you cover all things RC 👍 great job Capt’n
Thanks 👍
Awesome Tank Video!! Thank you!!
