Amazing video. As a Swede I can say you did a pretty good job on the meatballs (traditionally I have never seen anybody use baking soda, and normally we soak the breadcrumbs in milk or cream first instead of adding the dairy straight into the mix, I would also highly recommend to brown the onion before adding it, but this is nitpicking), the sauce is kind of spot on, soy sauce is not unheard of, a lot of Swedes use it in the sauce including me. What baffles me do is chips with meatballs. I mean, I have no complaints, but that would not in a million years happen in Sweden. You would loose your citizenship probably. We serve it with mashed potatoes. Also in Sweden, it is always, always serverved with lingonberries and a fast pickled cucumber condiment. But great job as always. The Swedish sarma (my wife is Serbian so I mostly eat the almost Turkish version) is called "Kåldolmar" wich roughly translates to "Cabbage Dolma". Most Swedes do not know that this is a turkish dish or where the name came from. We eat that with lingon berries also, lol. And yes Swedish Meatballs is kofta, correct. Karl the 12th was actually kicked out of Turkey were he was kind of hiding. Cheers guys.
@@salamanje Nobody calls (swedish) meatballs that anyway, but for me kofta and köfte are interchangeable, kind of like cevap and kebab. Just regional. But yes it is funny.
@@salamanje "The etymology of the word ćevap goes back to the Arabic kebab to which a diminutive suffix typical of Slavish languages - namely čići - is added, even though they are often called simply ćevap/ćevapi."
I made this recipe for my son who loves ikea meatballs and he loves them even more than the original ones. Thank you so much Rafika, regards from Palestine
Without additives, of course is better! Here in Serbia we make ćufte 😂 which sounds like köfte, lot of Turkish influence in Serbia also. Love your videos, specially with simple ingredients
I am missing longer content.. That being said, I dont have an IKEA near me and I have heard so much about how the meatballs are wonderful... Thanks to you, I can now make them!!! Thank you for an amazing video!!!!
I first discovered you through meatballs, funnily enough. When Alex from French Guy Cooking did his meatball series, you were his first stop and I enjoyed the episode so much I started following your channel, and now I never miss a video. I love your recipes and your style, keep on being awesome!
Me too! I have stopping watching Alex, but I still watch you. Alex really does not home cooking anymore… I like learning more home cooking like Refika teaches!
Always a pleasure to watch, learn and cook with you guys. I loved the meatball explanation particularly because any type of Turkish meatballs are way better than the Swedish, sorry not sorry, but there's no comparison. Love your channel 👌🏼❤🥰
Every family in Sweden has their own meatball recipe passed down through generations. So there are many variations of the actual meatball. But, the thing about Swedish meatballs is the cream sauce. The sauce sets the dish apart. Paired with the tart lingonberry, slightly acidic quick-pickled cucumber and the mashed potatoes it gets even better. Again, the secret is really the sauce.
I look forward every Saturday to watch your videos your recipes are always amazing and delicious. I especially love watching you and Borek working together making it fun.🐞🦬🐢🥰
Add either raisins or dried cranberry's to the meat mix everyone will be blown away with the flavor, you can do with turkey meatballs as well really nice gravy. I use CAVIT wine in my whole turkey pan and baste with it and use cheese cloth to keep it moist . Use ground turkey for yours lol Swedes have Lingonberries with theirs so the raisins and or cranberry's work great!
Refika these look so delicious. I've been subscribed for sometime now, and enjoy your content and recipes tremendously. And you're right, Burak is indeed VERY handsome...its always great to see him too! 😉 Cheers from Wisconsin!
Great job team! I have fond memories of our family enjoying IKEA meatballs & sauce, but now they'll be tastier, & without the additives. I just need to to pick up some cranberry sauce, instead of the usual lingonberry jam from IKEA, to put on the side.🥰
This video made me so hungry! 😂 Took ground meat out of the freezer to thaw so I can make them tomorrow. (Unfortunately, am already cooking chicken for tonight’s dinner.)
Do not rush, it makes me anxious. Loved the back story of IKEA meatballs. Hope to find the ingredients in the description. You had been rather fast while explaining ingredients.
Watching from Australia in the Dandenong Ranges Victoria, and my mouth is watering!! I love Turkish kofta, so cant wait to try these. Love the history of its evolution. Your video are always so uplifting and perfect. Thank you. Ill let you know how they turn out.🦘🦜
Hi, we've just eaten your Ikea meatballs and sauce for dinner. Thanks for the recipe, I will be trying this out on my granddaughter. I'll get her to make them. Love your RUclips channel. ❤
Great job! I'm swedish and your meatballs feel swedish. But of course we serve them with mashed potatoes here instead of chips :) But it looks fantastic. Best wishes from Sweden :)
I've done this recipe twice. The first time the meatballs were great but i had to replace the sauce with bechamel sauce since i did not have stock (it was a good pair with the berry jam though). The second time i wanted to make double the amount of meatballs and i added too much onions (If they're too soft then there's too much onion). They weren't that good and the taste changed a lot. Also i think the type of soy sauce matters a lot since the taste was a bit different and maybe too salty. Thank you for making these videos, they've improved my cooking skills a lot.
Excellent work , looks scrumptious . Yes , definitely King Charles Xll of Sweeden brought the Turkish " meatballs " to Sweeden mid 18th century to become their national dish . No wonder why Turkiye has such a beautiful cuisine & people to go along with it ❤😍
The two Meatballers? It's always wonderful to see Burak, btw.... Anyway, this backstory is very interesting and it makes perfect sense. We have "Swedish" meatballs in our regular rotation. We add a little bit of allspice to the meat mixture and sometimes some nutmeg. Very little. About 1/4 teaspoon each per pound of meat. We brown the meatballs and then build the sauce in the same pan and finish by returning the meatballs to the pan while the potatoes or noodles are cooking. But how nice to be able to share the fruits of your research at the table the next time we make them!! Hope you and your magnificent team are well. Be safe/much love!!
Delightful! I will make the sauce. The meatballs, probably. The chips, most likely not. (I am 69. About 25 years ago, I discovered that I no longer cared for chips.)
That’s a great idea.❤We just discussed what we are going to do with the rest of the minced meat in our fridge. 😂 Warm greetings to you and your entire team.
Nice recipe. I would add allspice, grate a little nutmeg over it and add a tiny pinch of ground clove. 😊 I think that since this recipe does not carry a Certification, Patent, or some kind of AOC swedish number, it is ok to adapt it to our own preference… that’s the beauty of cooking and sharing recipes 😉 Enjoy 😊🎉

It is interesting that despite both Turkish and Swedish having “ö”, Swedish version is called “kofta”

I’m happy to have a version of Swedish meatballs I can eat as I think IKEA uses pork. Thank you !!
It is common to use a pork and beef blend, never all pork, but all beef is absolutely ok to tradition. And veal and game even.

Beautiful Refika. Love from Bosnia.🙏🥰🇧🇦💖🙋💞🐞🌹@@Refika
In Sweden, we eat meatballs with either boiled or mashed potatoes, pressed cucumber, cream sauce and lingonberry jam.

Can't wait to try, and no manmade chemicals! Nice and simple. Thank you Refika and Borek for the recipe.👍❤️

I love the Swedish version of Turkish meatballs... I'm going to have to make this very soon
Refika taught me the importance od grated onion in my group meat recipes!... every recipe I make from this channel is amazing
I bought a mini food processor for this reason! (Also for Sip & Feast's deli salad brines) Who wants to GRATE ONIONS 😭
I can't wait until summer is over because it's too hot to cook in Phoenix, AZ, USA. This looks great just as you and Burak do!
Love you guys and your recipes, wishing you all success❣️❣️
Love when you do quick short videos. I feel I can manage the same recipe for the family when I am in a rush and don't have time. Thank you!
In Pakistan we have different kinds of meatballs. One of my favourite dishes.
Looks very tasty! I loved the mini history lesson too!
I love ❤️ watching your videos for the last 6 years , I hope all Turkish people as nice as you, specially towards us Arabic people 😢

You said there was over 300 Turkish meatballs. Is there a cookbook with just meatball recipes? If so I would love to find it .🤔
This video made me so hungry! 😂 Took ground meat out of the freezer to thaw so I can make them tomorrow. (Unfortunately, am already cooking chicken for tonight’s dinner.)
You read my mind! I have been craving meatballs. I'm definitely making these today. Thank you for the recipe and some history. I loved it!

Wow, I like it and I did buy from AIKIA. I will make it now. Thank you and love you 💕
Comfort food at it's finest! An alternative serving suggestion would be rice instead of potatoes. Imagine that yummy gravy/sauce over rice.
Love you guys. Always content from the heart, and so well produced. Great cultural culinary history lesson too. And Borak is so handsome ❤

this is far superior to anything you can eat in Ikea ❤
We also put soy sauce or knorr seasoning in our gravy for umami, too. Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭 !!!
Fantastic culinary recipe & history from the number ONE TEAM.

This is false information. We've had meatballs since the 1500-1600s through England and France. The recipe is swedish
Also, swedes didn't fry their meatballs until the 1800s, so there's a huge gap there in your thought process

We are in the process of planning a kitchen remodel with all of the most modern kit. Where can we get a Burak? They're almost never on sale
