Simply one of the greatest albums of the 80’s. If you do another song from this album, I suggest “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes” live, from Paul’s concert in Africa from 1987.
I was living in South Africa when Paul Simon travelled there during apartheid to make this album. It's an absolute gem and was a wonderful peek into the joyful musical soul of a country whose people were being oppressed. Who better to tap into that than Paul Simon? You should consider exploring this album in whole. Not one bad track and there is so much to gain from the experience.
This whole "Graceland" album is great! It was released in 1986. Other songs on it are "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes", "The Boy In The Bubble", "Under African Skies", "You Can Call Me Al" etc. Paul Simon has a huge library of songs such as "Mother & Child Reunion", "Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard", "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover", "Still Crazy After All These Years", "Gone At Last", "My Little Town", "Kodachrome", "Loves Me Like A Rock" etc.
This album is so good not to mention that Paul instead of just getting guys from US he brought all the guys from Africa and did the entire tour with them. And just a great human being
An INCREDIBLE musical gift to the world. Every song you've mentioned is such a treasure. Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes. I gotta find that one here and listen again.
The verse that begins "she comes back to tell me she's gone" is about Carrie Fischer; she and Paul were married briefly. You should listen to Under African Skies from this album. It's a duet with Linda Rondstat, and the second verse was written for her.
The whole Graceland album is a work of art! You need to hear the entire thing. BTW, Paul is a genius. He had an amazing catalogue that precedes this album, as well. My favorite of his might very well be Loves Me Like a Rock.
I remember buying Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes, the single as soon as it came out, and later this album - I love everything on it. Paul Simon is great, alone or with Art. I love everything he's done. This was the start of my appreciation of bands from Africa. There is a video of the concert in South Africa. Well worth watching.
This is one of those albums that if you can listen to it without dancing in your chair, then you are terminally lacking in groove and soul! Under African Skies is another stellar track off of the album.
I love this album, it's one of my all-time favorites. I prefer, for first-time reactions, that you stop and comment when something really catches your attention, because in a good song, so many good things are going on, a reactor can't remember at the end to bring those points back up. I'm here for your reaction, I already know I enjoy listening to it all the way through. And I know you're going to get there, too. So a small stop to mention how friggin' cool the lyrics "losing love is like a window in your heart: everybody sees you're blown apart... everybody feels the wind blows" are, or how the music really makes you feel like you're on a train or some vehicle driving you to whatever Graceland is for you... those can be the moments I remember most in a reaction. That's my feeling; I know others disagree. Your call, bro. Thanks for reacting to this.
Graceland is Elvis' home, in case you were unaware. Love it when you let the song play through. We can see your reactions to the music while you listen. Maybe mention up front that you'll have a short comment after the song.
Real music lovers will always watch until the end. I’m an old hippie and I love to hear the songs all the way through. That’s how we always used to listen to music. Sit down and let it flow through you 🌻💜👵🏼✌🏼
One of the best albums ever made its just pure genius from beginning to end. Diamonds on the soles of her shoes is my favourite. I loved that you really couldn’t bring yourself to do anything but just groove along with the brilliance.
For me, this sublime album consistently ranks in my top 20 of all time. Paul Simon's arrangement and phrasing is so metered and considered, yet delivers an album that sounds so fresh and effortless....what a beautiful jewel it is.❤
A magnificent song and one of his best of many albums! A fantastic songwriter who knows how to convey a message to his listeners.i think you should react the way you feel is right for a particular song!
Yeah Diamonds on the soles of her shoes is an amazing song. I would recommend the video on that song. It really paints a picture of what kind of human he is
To answer your question. I like that you play the songs all the way through. I wouldn't really mind if you would pause once or twice. The thing I care most for in reactors is their genuine love for discovering music. And you have plenty of that.
I was able to get to one of the concerts for the tour supporting this album with all of the amazing musicians and singers who contributed to it. It's one of the best and most amazing experiences I've ever had. The final concert (in Zimbabwe, I believe) was filmed and there are RUclips clips available. I highly recommend them.
When this album came out, it was (and remains) my top 'go-to' for road trips. Blasting it around the house, too. And the beautiful memories associated with these songs makes me so happy, fills my heart with joy. In concert, he's amazing!
I prefer to listen to the song uninterrupted. You have a very expressive face and manner, and it's a joy to watch you take in a new song you love. Like this one. The polyrhythms of African music permeate this album and make it so unique in American rock. Their richness underlays this track and gives it that irresistible effect. The whole album is like that. One of the best ever. Paul is up there with Joni Michell as my favorite songwriters
There is not a bad song in the whole album. If you get a chance, I would recommend his concert in South Africa. It will be one of the best performances you have ever seen. The whole album is covered and the concert includes many fabulous Black South African artists I saw him in concert for his Rhythm of the Saints Tour. It was held in a soccer stadium. The back up band alone was worth the price of admission. I was 40 years old and standing on my seat the entire time.
THANK YOU a for reacting to this! Yes…”world-beat” music. It is GREAT to watch the live performance in South Africa. The African band was Ladysmith Black Mombasa, and they toured with Simon for this album…which was amazing for them.
Love Paul Simon!! Guess what, I was watching a show on TV called storage wars earlier and a couple bought a locker that had 3 or 4 guitars and took them to the lead singer of the band Triumph!! You did that video of him a few days ago and he played one of the guitars and sang some of the song Lay it on the line!! Can you believe that!? He sounded the same as he did back then, so cool!! Thought you would like to know.❤❤
I personally love watching your reactions to the music and appreciate you listening to a song in its entirety. That said, I don't think anyone would have a problem if something unique grabs you and you stop to comment....occasionally!
Paul Simon is one of my favourite songwriters and singers. I loved the whole Graceland album. Take a look at his The Rhythm of the Saints, which, imo, is underrated.
I've had a bad start to the year and the beauty of this track had me tearing up. So , so good. I prefer when the tracks are paused as little as possible. I'm quite prepared to wait for the analysis at the end because I know it will be worth hearing!
So excited!! This is such a beautiful album. Have a great day :) Edit: As to analytics and video format... sometimes it's impossible to know what will engage people and what won't, particularly because what works for one person doesn't necessarily work well for another. Why not try it out and see if it affects your numbers at all. It doesn't matter to me where in the video your verbal reaction occurs.
When I was managing a record store here in Australia in the 80’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo who were on the Graceland album did an instore appearance. Hearing them sing live was amazing. They were promoting their album Shaka Zulu
Great album. Terrific live concert so you can see each instrument/voice. We played this song, new at the time, as we actually drove to Graceland. What an odd experience that place was. The song set the tone.
Subscriber feedback - like it when you hold your comments till the end, but either way it's good. Thanks for asking! Paul Simon is a cornerstone of folk rock and beyond, love all his forms of music! Fantastic song, really enjoyed your reaction, another great song from this album 'Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes'
“Graceland” is one of those albums that you like from first hearing, but as the years pass by you only appreciate more and more how perfect it is. One of the best of all time
What a great song and LP. I got to see him on this tour - fantastic show! I, for one, prefer when a reactor lets the song play all the way through and experiences it as a whole before making comments. Breaking the song to make comments breaks the experience of listening to the song.
This will be said throughout the comments, but the whole album is stellar and great to listen to from beginning to end. With your comments, I kind of like it when reactors split the difference and just stop the video halfway through to mention a few key impressions before playing to the end where they can give any more impressions that have come in. That way, you get some idea of what the reactor is thinking while they listen without having to wait until the end. And with just one break in the middle, you aren't annoyed by frequent breaks that interrupt the flow of the song.
I just love watching your reactions and I feel the music with you that I’ve heard a million times with fresh ears. It gave me goosebumps watching you hear this for the first time. Thank you.
The Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Paul Simon in 2002 not only has a great tribute concert but the mini-doc covers his musical career from the beginning (well, up until 2002!). But even if you don't watch the whole thing, Steve Martin's intro is pretty hilarious: ruclips.net/video/XHIwtY9MpSo/видео.htmlsi=-qC17pnVATZyZh_0
Great reaction! I love how you listen to the whole song, then give your reaction at the end. ❤🙏 Whichever way you decide to handle it I’m sure will be wonderful. You are very eloquent with your thoughts. Thank you. ☺️
I was 9 when this came out and travelled extensively with my dad, from Paris to Dakar to Casablanca to Saratoga Springs, Bruges or London, so there IS something about this song. Never been to Graceland, though. Not yet.
For myself, I enjoy your comments after hearing the song. A quick reaction is great sometimes…especially if you’re surprised but I appreciate the “conversation” afterwards. Thanks for asking!!
I think pausing and commenting works. Personally, I watch reactions to hear peoples thoughts and see how they react to the music so if something strikes you then by all means tell us in the moment.
I knew you would love this song. It’s beautiful as is the entire album. One of those rare albums which I can listen to from beginning to end and enjoy every track without wanting to skip any. No fillers at all! Regarding your question, personally I think not interrupting the song while it’s playing is the way to go because I’ve seen other reactors who might stop a song during playback to comment, but, for whatever reason they stop at the worst time, like during an important transition which you don’t really feel or get the affect unless the song is heard through beginning to end as a whole. But, understandably there might be some data you have regarding your channel which might suggest more positive results if you made comments about the song during playback and in that case it would be understandable if you decide to explore that option to see what the results would be. Either way, I think those of us who enjoy your channel and particularly your honest emotional responses to the music will be along for the ride with you. Good luck brother whichever way you decide.
Paul is a great storyteller..he also experiments with different instruments and different cultures in all of his music..u need to follow his journey thru music
I like less breaks but I know youtube sucks sometimes if you don't pause. I'm here either way. Enjoy your reactions! Been here a long time and will be here either way! Keep on keepin' on!😊
I recommend to watch and listen to "Paul Simon's Concert In The Park. Recorded live in 1991, shows Paul Simon and great musicians at their best. Excellent setlist and performance.
I was with you to the end. Quite like that you comment after the song, but can also be ok to stop once during the song. "You can call me Al" was a big hit from this album. Quite funny video as well with (tall) Chevy Chase taking over (short) Paul Simons performance.
Now you can see why the Graceland album keeps making the requests. the musical organization Playing for Change / Song Around the World has many great cover songs using musicians from around the world all blended into one video.
Helene here. (Evelyn ). You know, Salvo, as many of us have said before, you are WONDERFUL to allow us to vote on albums, movies, musicals etc on your Patreon channel. BUT: It’s your channel, sweetie, and if you come across something that YOU want to listen to or watch, we will be VERY happy to listen/watch with you. We really WANT you to love this journey and To be excited by it. Obviously this song made you VERY happy, and you loved the sound. And yeah, Album of the Year! I say go for it and listen…..take it out of the poll and do it because YOU want to! We will all understand and support you 100%. 😁😁🤗👍
Thanks SalvoG. Wow, I purchased this album when it came out in the mid 80's, but never realized that the Everly Brothers performed in this song. I noticed their names as you were scrolling through the info. I was hoping you'd pick up on it. Also the song was written about his thoughts during a road trip to Graceland after breaking up with his wife... Actress and author Carrie Fisher. I forgot that Paul was married to her. Thanks for all you do, SalvoG. You not only react to great music, but you give a little background and history. After watching I get a better understanding to what I was listening to years ago.
my mother and father turned me on to paul simon via "simon and garfunkel" whilst traveling across the usa during his air force career in the late 60's and early 70's. on eight track in a car without a/c. later paul went solo and i enjoyed it on the radio. when "graceland" came about i dug the entire album. i even went to the concert tour with my first wife. regretfully, i fell asleep 'bout half way through. regrets?... i've had a few.
Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel along with Jon Anderson have the most "angelic" male vocals in music history. So, the sound and tone of their vocals makes you cry. 😢 So, I am not surprised that you got emotional about this sound. The album, "Graceland," is a Masterpiece. Great Reactions as usual. Please, don't forget Anderson, Jon Anderson of Yes. Great song, "Endless Dream," released in 1994. Peace ✌
I have loved this album from the first listen. It’s one of those albums that I never, ever tire of, and can just start it up and let it go because there’s not a note of filler on it. It’s just a jewel. There aren’t many albums which I can start up and just let it go, and know there won’t be a boring moment on it, and of which I never tire. This is one, Joni Mitchell’s “Court And Spark” is another.
"Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes"....you MUST do the LIVE version. So amazing with the performers who toured with him.
🙌💯 Came here to say this!! 💐
Not only is this album a masterpiece from beginning to end, but it's also just as good today as it was in 1986
Simply one of the greatest albums of the 80’s.
If you do another song from this album, I suggest “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes” live, from Paul’s concert in Africa from 1987.
I was living in South Africa when Paul Simon travelled there during apartheid to make this album. I love the African influences in this Album. So unique and beautiful harmonies.

That was you Mother ! Cajun style !
Fabulous album from beginning to end
An INCREDIBLE musical gift to the world. Every song you've mentioned is such a treasure. Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes. I gotta find that one here and listen again.
One of the best albums you will ever hear. Period.
One of the best albums ever, a true classic.
The verse that begins "she comes back to tell me she's gone" is about Carrie Fischer; she and Paul were married briefly.
You should listen to Under African Skies from this album. It's a duet with Linda Rondstat, and the second verse was written for her.
The total album is exceptional. Paul Simon is a icon, great singer and musician. The live concert is great!
Agree. This whole album is a miracle.
Epic song. The whole album is fire
Probably one of the greatest albums ever written.
Linda R. sings with Paul on this album, on the track “Under African Skies”
The whole Graceland album is a work of art! You need to hear the entire thing. BTW, Paul is a genius. He had an amazing catalogue that precedes this album, as well. My favorite of his might very well be Loves Me Like a Rock.
I have loved this album from the first time I heard it in 1986. Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes is my very fav. Please react to it.
Thanks! He's an incredible singer and writer!
This whole album needs to be heard in order. It’s one of the best albums ever! Waiting till the end to comment is aces. Love it.
A masterpiece.
which in this case is an understatement!
I remember buying Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes, the single as soon as it came out, and later this album - I love everything on it. Paul Simon is great, alone or with Art. This was the Album of the Year. I listened to it soooo many times. Even excercising to it.
Graceland is Elvis' home, in case you were unaware.
Love it when you let the song play through. We can see your reactions to the music while you listen. Maybe mention up front that you'll have a short comment after the song.
The second verse ("She comes back to tell me that she's gone") is just poetic gold
Real music lovers will always watch until the end. I’m an old hippie and I love to hear the songs all the way through. That’s how we always used to listen to music. Sit down and let it flow through you 🌻💜👵🏼✌🏼
I love Graceland. We played the heck out of the whole album when it came out. Just so many good songs.
One of the best albums ever made its just pure genius from beginning to end. Diamonds on the soles of her shoes is my favourite.
I loved that you really couldn’t bring yourself to do anything but just groove along with the brilliance.

It's one of the best and most amazing experiences I've ever had. The final concert (in Zimbabwe, I believe) was filmed and there are RUclips clips available. I highly recommend them.
I saw one of the concerts on this tour as well. It remains the best concert I have ever been to. Truly amazing.
If the last copy of this was in a burning building, I would race in to save it. My kids have stolen it from me six times. Favorite album ever. Ever.
When this album came out, it was (and remains) my top 'go-to' for road trips. Blasting it around the house, too. And the beautiful memories associated with these songs makes me so happy, fills my heart with joy. In concert, he's amazing!
I love this song.
Every song on this album is wonderful. There are some great live videos of songs from the album from a concert in Africa around its release.
This album was a revelation. This track is well deserved of the awards!
Pretty much me, every-time I listen to this song :) The way he pronounces the T at the end of Heart....... and the human trampoline line.
You can randomly pick any Graceland song to react to next, but...please queue up Boy In The Bubble
There is not a bad song in the whole album. If you get a chance, I would recommend his concert in South Africa. It will be one of the best performances you have ever seen. The whole album is covered and the concert includes many fabulous Black South African artists
I saw him in concert for his Rhythm of the Saints Tour.
One of my all time favorites, such a unique song. Loved this whole album , fabulous ❤️🎵✌️
Sting and Paul Simon did a tour together. Sting sang the Art Garfunkel parts and they mixed up their catalogues. I regret not seeing it live!
This entire album is beautiful and masterful!!!!

I love The Rhythm of the Saints too!
@@yol.7177 isn't the percussion great?
I think you should do your videos as you wish. You deliver great insight whether it's before, after or during songs.
The perfect album.
I've had a bad start to the year and the beauty of this track had me tearing up. So , so good. I prefer when the tracks are paused as little as possible. I'm quite prepared to wait for the analysis at the end because I know it will be worth hearing!
Because that is where the King is...in Graceland.
It doesn't matter to me either, it's a "reaction" channel after all.
Lucky you who has the album unheard!
The word Classic is used very often , so I will call it a Standout Album..Loved it, still do.
Love this album - please continue with it and be sure to check the follow-up album, The Rhythm Of The Saints.
When I was managing a record store here in Australia in the 80’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo who were on the Graceland album did an instore appearance.
Hearing them sing live was amazing. They were promoting their album Shaka Zulu
A tribute to Elvis, who he admired. Paul was a musical genius. I love all of his music. He loved the way Elvis sang Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Great album. Terrific live concert so you can see each instrument/voice. We played this song, new at the time, as we actually drove to Graceland. What an odd experience that place was. The song set the tone.
Please do “You Can Call Me Al” with Paul Simon & Chevy Chase. The video. 👍🙂
Imo, being "in the moment" is why I watch.
Hi 👋, I find it interesting when you comment immediately on something that has touch you
Exactly! Anyone who just wants to hear the song doesn't understand the point of the channel.
If you want a recommendation for Simon and Garfunkel I highly suggest their song “Scarborough Fair” super cool one.
One of my favorite songs EVER, EVER. So lovely. How often do you hear a canticle? Never.
This will be said throughout the comments, but the whole album is stellar and great to listen to from beginning to end. With your comments, I kind of like it when reactors split the difference and just stop the video halfway through to mention a few key impressions before playing to the end where they can give any more impressions that have come in. Fantastic song! It is put together so impeccably!
The Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Paul Simon in 2002 not only has a great tribute concert but the mini-doc covers his musical career from the beginning (well, up until 2002!).

I was lucky enough to see him in concert when I was in grade 9. Such a fabulous experience. You should listen to me and julio down by the schoolyard.
It is a real kick seeing you discover stuff i've alway loved.
Great reaction! I love how you listen to the whole song, then give your reaction at the end. ❤🙏 Whichever way you decide to handle it I’m sure will be wonderful. You are very eloquent with your thoughts. Thank you. ☺️

This album is definitely one of the greatest ever made. My mom got the vinyl when it came out; I was 6 and fell in love with it then. ❤
For myself, I enjoy your comments after hearing the song.
A quick reaction is great sometimes…especially if you’re
surprised but I appreciate the “conversation” afterwards.

I think pausing and commenting works. Personally, I watch reactions to hear peoples thoughts and see how they react to the music so if something strikes you then by all means tell us in the moment.
100%

you need to prepare yourself - Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes - will blow you away.
I always feel one or two pauses in a normal song is a good balance and it also helps with the copyright nonsense.

I saw just how that verse hit home, "Losing love is like a window to your heart. Everybody sees you're blown apart
Everybody sees the wind blow..." 🙁
losing love is like a window in your heart,
Evocative - is the word you're looking for
Yes it is mire enjoyable for me when the comments are at the end. 😊
I noticed the Everly Brothers too. That's very cool!
Gotta check out "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" Excellent!! ❤
my mother and father turned me on to paul simon via "simon and garfunkel" whilst traveling across the usa during his air force career in the late 60's and early 70's. on eight track in a car without a/c. later paul went solo and i enjoyed it on the radio. when "graceland" came about i dug the entire album. i even went to the concert tour with my first wife. regretfully, i fell asleep 'bout half way through. regrets?... i've had a few.
Peace ✌
I watch the entire video as I like getting the entire reaction to the song.
