Life was so much simple back then. No cell phones. No Facebook. No social media. I woke up went to school. Came back home played outside. What a simple life.
Brian Cant, the narrator of this was the most iconic children’s presenter to me and even my own children ( Dappledown farm... 90s) If I could turn back the clock I would walk into a wonderful family home, where me and my sister were loved unconditionally.....oh my, I wish I could, don’t we all?......I hope you all had a childhood like ours xxx God bless my Ma and pa ❤️❤️
No one can deny it’s genuinely very touching to see so many grown ups wishing they could return to the simple trumpton days even if for a day…Says a hell of a lot about how simple things were and more importantly that people most definitely felt happier and safer in other words they were at ease
Childhood was epic in the seventies. Missing Primary school and lying on the couch with a Lemsip watching Trumpton, Paperplay and the morning run of Play School trying to wish that today's window would be the arched one. Life was not simpler but we actually had an enviable childhood. Outside on a space hopper, rolling Action Man's armored car down the garden, and watching as Evel Knievel's stunt bike jumped your mum's flower bed while your sister borrowed your action man talking commander to go camping with her Sindy doll in her yellow beach buggy *the one I used to borrow from time to time so that Action Man had an off road vehicle. Bless Trumpton, Magic Roundabout, Rupert, Mary, Mungo and Midge, the Wombles, Mr Ben, The Flumps (shit , I could go on forever) but bless the fact that I had a childhood filled with such vivid memories and could disappear for hours outside without anyone freaking out, Unfortunately, todays kids will never have such memories, just phone aps :(
I will join the band of comments that make me remember, with a tear in my eye. 1970s England, I wouldn't even know my age ... but I was under 10. Not had a kiss, a dance or anything much.... life was full of experiences and fun. 50 now, happily married, living in Ireland 2 ace young kids, reliving my childhood through them....life has been GOOD !! BUT I would love to go back, just for the day, cuddle mum n dad, say thank you, take them down the Brickmakers Arms for a night on the fizz. I never got the chance
Pure nostalgia. Still mesmarised by that clock, as I originally was. Trumpton and Camberwick Green were probably the most memorable. Brian Cant was so cool way back in the early-mid 70s with Playschool, Playaway ... others, can anyone remember?
Wow! Haven't seen this for over 30 years, probably since I was 6! I remember getting really excited when the figures came out... ahhh, innocent times :)
Trumpton wouldn't be the same in CGI, and would lose the "charm" of the original puppets. Like in 2005 when they did that naff CGI remake of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, none of the charm of the 60s original.
Indeed! One of THE best children;s TV shows the BBC ever broadcast IMO, followed by the rest of the "Trumptonshire" trilogy including Camberwick Green and Chigley. Oh yeah, Chigley! I wanted to work in a biscuit factory when I grew up in those days.
I live in the U.S. now but have shown my American wife Trumpton,Chigley and Camberwick Green. She gets it and made me a Windy Miller in modelling clay. Just to hear Brian Cant's voice takes me back to the early 70's.
Happy 48th anniversary to Trumpton and Happy 49th anniversary to Camberwick Green! Both aired on BBC1 on January 3rd in 1966 and 1967 respectively. Today is 3rd Jan 2015.
Children would surely be calmer and better behaved if this was still widely available to them! Not to mention more nicely spoken. Across Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green, we were given our first and most important lessons in civics. It was a kinder, more orderly and less intimidating world. I could weep for our lost innocence!
"Trumpton (Remake) with The Jetsons' Jane Jetson and their friends!" Voice Cast: Narrated by Tania Rodrigues. Grey Delisle as Jane Jetson, Jeff Bergman as George Jetson and Mr. Spacely, Danica McKellar as Judy Jetson, Trevor Devall as Elroy Jetson, Tress MacNeille as Rosie the Robot Maid, Frank Welker as Astro the Space Mutt, David Tennant as Captain Flack, Dick and Dom as Fireman Pugh and Fireman Pugh the Pugh Twins, Peter Capaldi as Fireman Barney McGrew, Ewan McGregor as Fireman Cuthbert, Toby Jones as Fireman Dibble, Mark Gatiss as Fireman Grubb, Oliver Ford Davies as The Mayor of Trumpton, Roger Ashton-Griffiths as Mr. Troop, Adrian Scarborough as Mr. Bolt, Stephen Fry as Mr. Philby, Derek Jacobi as Mr. Caddock the Park Keeper, Alexander Armstrong as Mr. "Chippy" Minton, Teresa Gallagher as Mrs. Dora Minton, Tom Holland as Nibs Minton, Ian McKellen as Mr. Munnings, Kelly Osbourne as Miss Lovelace, Tom Baker as Mr. Clamp, Kelly Beckett as Mrs. Cobbett, Jimmy Hibbert as Mr. Platt, Enn Reitel as Police Constable Potter the Policeman, Bill Nighy as Mr. Robinson, Vincenzo Nicoli as Mr. Toni Antonio, Griff Rhys Jones as Mr. Nick Fisher, John Alderton as Mr. Walter Harkin, George Layton as Mr. Wilkins, John Sparkes as Mr. Wantage, Alex Lowe as Fred the Telephone Engineer, John Hasler as Raggy Dan.
Up to very recently Nick Jr was still showing Trumpton (as well as Camberwick Green, Chigley and assorted other old kids show) in a clssic kids strand at about 9pm - tragically they've stopped now and it's just current shows played right though. Shame as my 4 year old was loving seeing the shows daddy watched at her age, and i was having a blast seeing them again. Surely in this day and age we can get a classic kids show channel? We've got them for everything else!
Abso-flippin-lutely! They're even on about getting rid of CBBC (although to be fair that channel's sucked for years IMO, at least they used to show classic Look and Read stuff such as Dark Towers)
It was a callback to Listen (then Watch) with Mother, and conditioned a generation or two to put down whatever they were fiddling with and pay attention, because the programme was about to start.
I'm 50 and I've just bought the box sets to Trumpton and Camberwick green also got bagpuss and Mr benn for me to watch myself times were easier then don't make programmes like this anymore
Remember having Trumpton on DVD or VHS, most likely VHS due to it being black and white. I was only around 5 watching it (Currently 16). Listening to the opening tune brings back a lot of memories
used to love trumpton, but thank god i never livid there. a dozen houses in the village and a fire or a fallen chimney every day. not very good odds.but at least they had a well drilled fire service.all together now"pugh, pugh, barney mcgrew, cuthbert, dibble and grub" legends : )

Oh yes. Do a search for him - there're a few clips available. One is of the opening intro - what a trip back into childhood! Excellent Saturday afternoon viewing.

Thanks Mum and Dad. I had a great childhood. I'll try to hand it on.
I had a tape with an episode or two of this when I was a kid. Hearing this again after so long is quite the memory lane.
School holidays , or being off-sick from school. Legendary, R.I.P Mr Cant.
Gordon Murray Rest in Peace...never knew you but I thank you for your creations and the happiness you brought to so many children.
He was also brilliant at designing Formula one cars.
Funny how I get a tear in my eye when I watch this...
I know what you mean my friend. If we could turn back the clock what changes would we make. I have a good few ideas. Shame we have to grow old........
Me too .......... the opening credits took me back almost 50 years !!

It's good that Trumpton didn't fall into the CGI reboot trap which Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, and Bob the Builder all failed to avoid.
