Lots of 'mental' work as well to learn to hold your breath for long times. Mostly that is learning how to slow your heart beat down and relaxing. Pretty much meditation. Only thing I really learned to do in high school study hall was to hold my breath for 2 minutes. You do need to replenish oxygen levels before another attempt, so a 10 or more minute rest break with steady and deep breathing, then calm your pulse rate down again and stay calm while you are holding...
I got astma, but my swimming has made it better (but need inhalator every work out). Last time I checked I could hold my breath for a bit over 2 minutes :) I did 50 meter no breath, and could have gone longer this fall :D (2 People was watching me, to prevent drowning)
normal breath before hold 2:05 Diaphragm breath before hold 2:55 Yep, big difference, I hold my breath every morning and have been looking for something additional to apply to swimming so thank you!
Longest I’ve ever held my breathe was 2 minutes and 18 seconds. I used to practice holding my breath in school and the military when I was close to falling asleep.
For the first part, I think its more accurate to test a few times and take the average, I did the test twice before unpausing the video, the first time was 2:41 second time was 3:06. Neither of them used the diaphragm technique yet the second time was 25secs longer (maybe because my lungs warmed up after the first time). Edit: first try with diaphragm technique: 2:55, rested a while longer, 2nd try 3:09. I did try the hardest for the last one stopped when I finally felt a little dizzy(I didn't push myself so much for the first 3 tries). So on average there is an improvement but I don't think its that significant.
I got 1:50.97 the first time, 2:21.41 the second and tried it a third time and got 2:51.00. This are definitely great techniques if done correctly. I did notice that the third time my chest and diaphragm was getting smaller as if the air was just dissipating somehow. I’m definitely gonna continue this. I’ve always wanted to do some spear fishing but never got around to training myself.
2:36 and then 3:01 that was great! I’ve been thinking of getting back into swimming after I stopped due to Covid and I want to try something more intense than before so I need to work on my breath
I have asthma but somehow extra capacity. 1:11 with just mouth but there was much more pressure especially at windpipe. 1:21 with diaphragm voluntarily used and didn't have that pressure but only normal pressure
My first try, I did 48 seconds. The second try was 1 minute. I've never reached a minute in my life. Heck. Before today, I didn't usually get beyond about 30 seconds, but for some reason I was able to go past that when I tried this time. I think it was partially staying calm and partially will power. When I really wanted to breath, I told myself to go a little further and I did. I'm not much of a swimmer, but I just wanted to learn how to get my breath holding up for other reasons. I found an app that helps train your breath holding, so I'm going to try that.
For those who have some issues with the diaphragm breathing, don't over do it. Just push your stomach out but don't over do it, I noticed it's less efficient if you do this. I did 61 seconds normal breath, and 89 with diaphragm breathing
I have congestive heart failure which accumulates fluid in my right lung. I am trying to swim to exercise my heart and make my lungs better. What do you recommend for people like me ? Thanks.
Excellent video, that's what I'm doing now in water,,,, is not fun lol,,, but increases my speed a lot on my freestyle, cause don't have to turn my head as much ✌🏼️
I was really surprised by my results! I had 1 minute 50 seconds first time (I was expecting 50seconds max so I was amazed by this) and 1 minute 56 the next time. I wanted to last those last 4 seconds so bad! I wanted to hit that 2 minute mark but my heart was going crazy and I couldn’t tolerate it any more. The craziest thing is that uncomfortable feeling was there from like 1 minutes onwards so I can’t believe i was able to endure that
1.09 1st try was amazed that i could last that long, could've gotten longer but was afraid that i would blackout while sitting 🤣. 1.11 2nd try. I guess mentally calm can also help hold your breath longer.
nothing to do with the video but it just insane to see sprinters like Manaudou do 50M at full speed without taking a single breath, there is some serious lung capacity workout they do I would love to find out.
Nice experiment, in the first I got 27" but the second lasted 42". It was a impresive difference, however my respiratory capacity is so low, maybe due covid infection. I will investigate.
I have few questions about the swordfish program which I’m very interested to: Can I repeat those 10 days more times, maybe 9-10 times to train all summer long? Do I have to adjust it or it works also for a 2004? And last Do I need advanced tools or fins paddles and kick board are fine?
I wouldn’t repeat the program that many times 😐 I think you would need a longer program. Hopefully we will launch a second one with 30 workouts but that would be in July. They take a lot of hard work to do them 😓. If you are 14 or so you should be able to do them no problem. No need for more equipment than that 😉
Skills NT Swimming If you promise me that it will be available in July, I promise you that I will buy it P.s. I visited your shop: THOSE CAPS ARE AMAZING!

There is 1 ting I've notised as a swim official/judge, the ones who always wins have a lot longer underwater kicking. The best ones kick between 14 and 15 meter, coming up right before 15m (where you get disqualified if you don't break the water) :) If you swim SC I'd also recommend to work a lot on your turns.
I know this video is very old but when I inhaled as much air as i could, I felt my heart pounding so extremely hard it was like it was flexing a muscle. It was uncomforable feeling since it felt it was trying to come out of my chest. I can hold max 2 min but idk why that happend
Im a smoker, but I've held my breath under water for 2mins18 seconds. I did it buy not moving. I made myself into a ball by hugging my legs up to my chest, and squeezing the blood to my brain. I could have gone longer as I can naturally hold it for over a minute. The wife got worried😂 So surfaced for a well deserved kiss❤😔
First try holding my breath was 27 seconds. And with the technique I did 52 second. That's great.
my first i did 52 trying to go for 3 min

I like to think I beat my asthma. In reality, I still wheeze sometimes while running. But I haven’t used my inhaler in 15 years.

Exactly, usually taking too many breaths messes with you technique if you don’t have a perfect breathing technique.

First time: 1:05
Second Time (Diophram) 0:35
Push your diaphragm down, this gives your lungs more space to expand. A good exercise regimen is the key especially swimming.
Atfirst it was 1:01 , and after ur suggestion 45 , its cause u have more air so i feel urge to breathe out

51.4 seconds (I did 5 years of swimming but now I want to restart!)
Ps: the second attempt i did 1:17 seconds
I got 1 minute 30 , haha I guess I still have my swimmer lungs.
1:40 first hold lying down
2:10 second hold lying down

First time 37 sec and the secons time 1 min and 30sec that was great
I nearly fainted. My second try was worse than my first.
I got 33 seconds and when I tried the technique I got 55 seconds
